The United States and Iran say they have reached a framework agreement to end their conflict, lift the US blockade on Iran and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global shipping route. The preliminary pact, brokered with the help of Pakistan, has already sent oil prices lower and raised hopes of a broader de-escalation in the Middle East. But while both sides are hailing the breakthrough, major questions remain unresolved, most notably the future of Iran's nuclear programme. With a memorandum of understanding expected to be formally signed in Switzerland on Jun 19, is this the beginning of a lasting peace between Washington and Tehran? And what could the agreement mean for global energy markets, regional stability and the balance of power in the Middle East? On The Big Story, Hongbin Jeong speaks with Dr Jessica Genauer, Academic Director of the Public Policy Institute & Associate Professor, International Relations, University of New South Wales, to find out more. AP correspondent Ed Donahue reports the U.S. and Iran speak out over stalled ceasefire talks,
AP correspondent Charles de Ledesma reports Iran's top diplomat says a lack of trust between the parties is undermining talks.
The show covered Donald Trump flat‑out rejecting Iran’s latest response to a U.S. proposal to end the war, calling it “totally unacceptable,” while Benjamin Netanyahu warned the broader conflict isn’t truly “over” as long as key issues like enriched uranium and missile capabilities remain unresolved. Kicking off with the big headlines, the show covered Donald Trump flat‑out rejecting Iran’s latest response to a U.S. proposal to end the war, calling it “totally unacceptable,” while Benjamin Netanyahu warned the broader conflict isn’t truly “over” as long as key issues like enriched uranium and missile capabilities remain unresolved. On the entertainment and culture side, the crew dug into reality‑TV tea around a rumored “Ex‑Husbands of Atlanta” spinoff tied to Todd Tucker, with chatter that familiar former husbands (including names like Apollo Nida and Peter Thomas) could be part of an intentionally “messy” post‑divorce spotlight—complete with talk of potential added drama if Simon Guobadia ever joins. They also debated the latest Beyoncé speculation—on air it was framed as a near‑term new single/album rumor, but outside reporting notes her team has pushed back on claims of an imminent “Act III” rollout tied to the Met Gala buzz. And comedy fans got a big moment: Netflix’s live “Roast of Kevin Hart” was a star‑stacked spectacle—plus multiple reports highlight that Hart and Katt Williams used the night to publicly bury their long‑running feud. It was a packed show with major headlines making noise across politics, pop culture, and public safety. President Donald Trump addressed tensions in the Middle East, saying he’s in no rush to end the conflict with Iran and extending a ceasefire while maintaining a U.S. naval blockade—arguing that Americans may accept higher gas prices if it prevents Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. Meanwhile, celebrity news lit up social media as Kelly Rowland sparked viral conversations after debuting a noticeably updated look at recent events, fueling ongoing discussions about beauty standards, cosmetic enhancements, and public scrutiny in Hollywood. The show also covered serious developments involving Rihanna, as court documents confirmed the woman accused of shooting at the singer’s Los Angeles home has officially lost custody of her child. A Florida judge ruled she will have no contact with the child while she remains jailed and faces attempted murder charges, citing safety concerns and prior mental health issues. In breaking news, a deadly shooting at the Mall of Louisiana near Baton Rouge left one person dead and several others injured after an argument between two groups escalated into gunfire inside the food court. Authorities say the incident was targeted, multiple suspects are in custody, and the investigation remains ongoing as community leaders call for accountability and calm.
