Tune in here to this ​Wednesday edition of Breaking With Brett Jensen! Breaking Brett Jensen opens the show by discussing a new historic law that will take effect in N.C. on Monday. The measure, dubbed “Iryna’s Law,” was developed after Ukrainian immigrant Iryna Zarutska was stabbed to death on Charlotte’s light rail in August. The law’s primary purpose is to crack down on pretrial release for repeat and/or violent offenders. Jensen emphasizes that Iryna’s Law affects every person in Mecklenburg County - and, in some cases, those in neighboring counties. He also notes that in addition to targeting repeat offenders, the law eliminates written promises to appear in court. This provision is particularly significant because Decarlos Brown Jr., the man charged with murdering Zarutska, had been granted such a promise to appear by a county magistrate. Iryna’s Law also abolishes cashless bail, among other changes. Later, Jensen shares a statement released by Mecklenburg County Sheriff Garry McFadden regarding Customs and Border Protection’s departure from Charlotte. In the statement, McFadden says the Border Patrol operation created “confusion, fear and mistrust throughout Mecklenburg County.” However, he goes on to say that “the Sheriff’s Office played no role in causing that confusion.” Jensen stresses that the people “living in fear” were the migrants living in the Queen City illegally. U.S. Customs and Border Protection arrests hundreds of people in Charlotte, pulling them from cars, chasing them down streets. Homeland Security and Republican lawmakers say it's making us safer by removing criminals from our streets, yet we haven't been informed of any of the charges against those they've detained. Breaking Brett Jensen kicks off the show by discussing a terrifying story he broke on social media today involving Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. The story involved a student at Palisades High School who was found carrying an AR-15 rifle with dozens of rounds of ammunition at a school bus stop. Once witnesses saw the gun, the student ran from responding officers and was ultimately found hiding at a residence and arrested. Nobody was injured in the situation. Jensen notes that had the witnesses not alerted authorities, the situation could have ended far worse once the student arrived at school. He adds that Charlotte could have potentially been thrust into the national news spotlight for the second time this week. Jensen also mentions that, according to North Carolina state law, the student can be charged as an adult. However, Mecklenburg County has a track record of not charging students involved in crimes as adults. Later, Jensen shares two statements released today - one from Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles and another from the Department of Homeland Security. Both statements refer to the ongoing Border Patrol operation that has been underway since Saturday in the Queen City. In her statement, Lyles calls the operation an “intrusion” on the city, saying residents and businesses were “targeted” by agents who have been detaining people in the country illegally. Jensen further points out that this statement, similar to some of her recent ones, appears to have been composed by artificial intelligence based on its formatting. The statement from a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson says roughly 370 people in the country illegally have been detained and emphasizes that the operation in Charlotte “is not over.” This is significant to the ongoing status of the operation, especially because Lyles’ statement implied that Border Patrol had “ceased operations” in the city. In a game that had everything but a happy ending for Cincinnati, the Bengals fell 47-42 to the Chicago Bears on Sunday, November 2, 2025, in a fourth-quarter thriller that encapsulated their maddening 2025 season. What began with Charlie Jones' electric 98-yard kickoff return touchdown just 11 seconds in devolved into yet another devastating loss, dropping the Bengals to a dismal 3-6 and burying any faint playoff hopes deeper. Joe Flacco, filling in admirably for the injured Joe Burrow, etched his name in the record books with a career-high 470 passing yards—his second straight monster outing in defeat. Tee Higgins torched Chicago for 121 yards and two scores, including a 44-yard bomb that gave Cincinnati a halftime edge at 20-17. Ja'Marr Chase added 111 yards on six catches, proving the Bengals' offense remains an explosive force capable of 42 points. They even rallied from a 41-27 deficit late, with Flacco hitting Noah Fant for a touchdown, a successful two-point conversion to Higgins, and an onside kick recovery by Joseph Ossai leading to a go-ahead score to Andrei Iosivas with 54 seconds left. Most of the install base in America. For Wind was up at Sky Specs and interesting discussions. Just a lot going on. Obviously, we're all talking about the changes in legislation we're talking about. Uh, all the moving [00:01:00] targets everybody's trying to reorganize. There's been a number of, uh, shifts from wind into solar that's happening right now in the United States. And lowering operational costs, that's the big one. Getting blades under control, uh, getting gear boxes under control, understanding where some of the risks are. It was a very good. Conference, uh, they do it once a year. It was a full room, uh, and really good people, people we, we don't see all year. You maybe see once a year, maybe see at another trade show. It was nice to spend a couple of days, uh, talking wind turbine o and m. Very similar, much to what we're gonna do in Australia in February. Rosemary Barnes: Yeah, I wish I could have been there, uh, maybe next year.  Allen Hall: Well, we, we met with Matthew Stead. He was there. He had traveled all the way from Australia. And one of the things we did tell everybody were at the SKYSPACE conference was come to Australia February 16th and 17th in Melbourne, and you need to start [00:02:00] registering now. Last time we kind of expanded as, uh, we got more registrations in, but we don't have that option this year, and yet that, uh, agenda is definitely starting to get worked out. So now is the time to get in touch. If you, one, want to speak or two, have a, a topic that you think that we should talk about, like one of the big things that we wanna achieve with this event. Is matching people with [00:03:00] problems to people who have solutions and especially, you know, people who are developing solutions. So, you know, it might be that there is no solution available yet, but we still wanna hear about the problems 'cause there's a lot of smart people that know all about developing wind, wind turbine technologies. So that's the place to. Get those sorts of, um, yeah. That kind of information sharing, flowing and get people thinking creatively.
