In this episode, Charles and Dan unpack chapters four, five, and six of The Masculine in Relationship — and explore why so many men fall into the trap of becoming either strong-but-destructive or nice-but-ineffective. They dig into what it actually takes to embody the rare third option: a strong good man who leads with clarity, steadiness, emotional presence, and purpose. The conversation moves through the core foundations of masculine development: how purpose shapes direction, why reactivity erodes trust, what emotional safety really requires, and how structure frees the feminine to relax rather than brace. Charles and Dan get personal about their own patterns, the work men often avoid, and the uncomfortable moments that reveal whether you're reacting from old wounds or responding from grounded awareness. If you've ever wondered why certain dynamics repeat in your relationships — or what women are actually looking for when they say they want a man who “can lead” — this episode gives you the clarity, context, and challenge you need to step into a more integrated masculine expression.Support the show
#646: Picture this: your 11-year-old son comes home from a friend's house and asks why you don't have a basketball court in your basement like his buddy's family. Instead of just saying "we can't afford it," you explain that having one would mean dad goes back to working 60-hour weeks and traveling constantly. Your son thinks for a moment and says, "No thanks, I'd rather spend time with you." Andy Hill found himself having exactly this conversation with his son — and it perfectly captures the philosophy that led him and his wife to redesign their entire approach to work and family life. By age 40, Andy and his wife Nicole had built a $500,000 investment portfolio and paid off their house completely. But instead of continuing the corporate grind toward traditional retirement, they made a radical choice: They both switched to part-time work, roughly 20 to 25 hours per week each. Andy joins us to share a 10-step plan for anyone who wants to also switch to a model in which BOTH parents work part-time. We discuss the concept of Coast FIRE – the point where you've invested enough that your money will grow to a comfortable retirement without any additional contributions. Think of it as eliminating your biggest monthly "bill" – retirement savings. Once Andy and his wife hit this milestone, they could afford to earn less and live more. The conversation covers Andy's 10-step framework for achieving this lifestyle, from dreaming about what you actually want to eliminating debt to building what he calls "FU money" — the cash cushion that gives you confidence to make bold career moves. Most people fear a $43 million debt. Harvey Firestone called it “invigorating.” When his company faced collapse in 1920 and his executives panicked, Firestone seized control. He fired the sales manager, slashed prices 25%, and personally ran the sales department. It worked—not because he managed through fear, but through clarity. Firestone was the founder of the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company—an outsider who built one of America's iconic industrial empires by doing the opposite of what everyone else did. This episode isn't about tires. It's about how Firestone quietly built one of the great businesses of the 20th century by asking two deceptively simple questions: Is it necessary? Can it be simplified? This episode breaks down the invisible principles behind Firestone's success: positioning over talent, inputs over outcomes, discipline over drama. If you lead a team or simply want to lead yourself better, this story is a masterclass in building enduring advantages. This episode is for informational purposes only and is based on Men and Rubber: The Story of Business by Harvey Firestone. In his book, Leadership and Emotional Sabotage, Dr. Joe Rigney states that one of the first responsibilities of a leader is to determine what is and what is not the mission. In this world, a man is responsible for his family, whether he chooses to fulfill that role, or abdicate from it. The world is in crisis, sure, but how we describe said crisis will determine how we go about solving it, if we can. As much as we hear the call for strong men in the Church, or the country, or in Gun Culture, Dr. Rigney reframes our perception of leadership in this uncertain world. In today's episode of the World of Empowerment podcast, Ahonu quotes from the profound wisdom of F. Scott Fitzgerald, examining the concept of holding two opposed ideas in the mind simultaneously—a hallmark of true intelligence. Inspired by an email from Robert Kiyosaki, Ahonu explores the metaphor of the three-sided coin: heads, tails, and the edge.
In this conversation, Jason and Bryant Spratlin discuss the goodness of God and the journey of rethinking God's wrath as love, the impact of misinterpretation and bad theology, hearing God's voice, parenting and apologizing, choosing to love and staying connected, identity, loving the religious, imaginary prayer, the fear of being wrong, rethinking hell, apokatastasis-the restoration of all things, the pleasure of our Father, awakening to the present love reality, and Jesus as the perfect minister. The guys discuss the story of the woman caught in adultery to reveal the paradigm of union as the third option Jesus offers all of us. Overall, this conversation highlights the importance of understanding God's goodness and the transformative power of grace. Please rate, review, share, and subscribe! This episode is brought to you by Whoop, Beekeepers, and Cozy Earth. Nowadays, discussions around politics and viewpoints have become increasingly divisive and hostile. Often, differing perspectives are immediately shut down or met with personal attacks, even when we know that progress and growth come from listening to other viewpoints and approaching topics with curiosity. Today on The Dhru Purohit Podcast, Dhru sits down with his good friend and author Denise Gitsham to discuss politics, polarization, and critical thinking. Denise shares experiences and lessons she learned while working at the highest levels of the federal government and how those experiences helped her change her mindset. Dhru and Denise discuss the importance of listening with curiosity and engaging with people with differing viewpoints to seek out the truth. They also discuss how polarization has disrupted civility and what we can do to bring it back to our conversations even when we disagree. Denise is the founder of Vitamin D Public Relations, a boutique communications firm that operates at the intersection of law, policy, politics, and the media. She has worked at the highest levels of the federal government, including the White House, the US Department of Justice, and the US Senate, and she's also run for Congress. A recovering attorney and long-time politico, Denise's passion is bridging division and fostering unity by emphasizing principles over partisanship. She recently released her first book, "Politics for People Who Hate Politics: How to Engage Without Losing Your Friends or Selling Your Soul." In this episode, Dhru and Denise dive into (audio version / Apple Subscriber version):Why it's important to engage with people from different political views and backgrounds (5:10 / 5:10)The true story about polarization (6:23 / 6:23) The importance of skepticism and critical thinking in seeking the truth (19:17 / 16:53)How opinions are more visible (29:52 / 27:10) Why people are so triggered in day-to-day conversations (31:40 / 28:50)How do you stay informed by staying curious (37:00 / 32:33 )The importance of having multiple perspectives (39:45 / 36:00)Yearning for unity (53:50 / 49:30) Purposely engaging with people who have different viewpoints (57:43 / 53:15)The Third Option and committing to what is in the best interest of us (1:13:48 / 1:09:36) Bringing humanity back into the conversation (1:28:34 / 1:24:20) Where to follow Denise (1:35:05 / 1:30:54) Also mentioned in this episode:Politics For People Who Hate Politics WHOOP is a personalized digital fitness tracker. Loch's latest book, The Third Option: Covert Action and American Foreign Policy, examines the history of the complicated and sometimes controversial usage of covert action by the U.S. international affairs. Loch's decades-long career in foreign policy and intelligence has brought him to the forefront of some of the most seminal moments within US intelligence reform: he served as special assistant to the chair of the Church Committee, staff director of the House Subcommittee on Intelligence Oversight, and worked directly with the chair of the Aspin-Brown Commission. In this two-part episode of SpyCast, Andrew and Loch unpack what makes a covert action operation successful, and how we can learn from intelligence failures and past mistakes. And… How many people have a society named after them? Loch does! Quote of the Week "History doesn't like to be shaped, it has a power all of its own, but we try to shape it at least at the margins, and we do that through covert action, sometimes called the third option…and it really comes in four packages. Package number one is propaganda… And then comes political covert actions…Thirdly is economic covert action…And then fourthly, and most dramatically, are paramilitary operations. We are in the heart of football season. Have you ever wondered what the NFL is like behind the scenes? This week, Charles talks with his friend, Terrell Fletcher, former NFL running back with the San Diego Chargers. You'll hear incredible stories as well as how -and why - he left the NFL, became a pastor and started a church! And now he is talking about a subject many don't want to tackle… race relations. And how this problem, which seems so huge, can be overcome with a change in our point of view.
Today, guest speaker Pastor Miles McPherson, shares how we can honor our similarities and unite for race reconciliation in this message, ‘The Third Option City.' Pastor Miles, Lead Pastor of Rock Church, draws on biblical truths as well as personal expertise in the area of race reconciliation, as an author and speaker. We're blessed to have him with us today. Let's lean into the message together.
