Trump does more consequential things in a day that most presidents do in a month, so we may need to measure his tenure in office in dog years. It must certainly seem like dog days for the left, which is lying prostrate on the ground much of the time, panting and out of breath, gnawing on a bare bone. After ticking through a number of happy stories this week—the end of DEI at Berkeley; Greenpeace getting nicked for $667 million dollars, Columbia University capitulating to Trump—we get down the the week's new frontiers of lawfare. Is this moment a "constitutional crisis," as the left claims, or is it a long overdue moment of constitutional challenge, with the aim being the restoration of the proper dimensions and functions of our republic? We marhc brisky through four aspects of the issue, including nationwide injunctions, oral orders from the bench, the autopen question for a president (Biden) who was on autopilot for four years, and Trump's retaliation against private law firms that allowed themselves to be adjuncts to the Democratic Party. All this, and a discussion of what we think is the first-ever judicial opinion rendered by video, by Ninth Circuit Judge Lawrence Van Dyke, in a gun case.

My guest today is the human Swiss Army Knife, Yuk Chi Chan, who has packed more into the last decade than many people do in a lifetime. Yuk Chi is the founder of Charter Space, the first British space company to graduate from the Techstars Space Accelerator. Before that, he served as an officer in the Singapore army (hmm, so maybe I should have described him as a Singaporean Army Knife) and practiced as a space lawyer (it's funny how much cooler being a lawyer becomes when you preface it with the word “space”). Suffice to say, Yuk Chi knows a lot about space. We had a blast discussing how ‘ownership' of territory really works, why the sector impacts our daily lives FAR more than we think, and the mind-boggling mission of an intrepid robotic space snake. I hope you enjoy the conversation as much as I did. In The Shaw Report, just how much is Katy Perry being paid for her AFL Grand Final performance plus it's Fiddy vs Diddy as 50 Cent makes a series about the Sean Diddy Combs saga. It's 41 years since Australia II won the America's Cup so Clairsy & Lisa wanted your memories of what you were doing at the time of the win. It has been said that the years a UX professional spends at one company is like "dog years." In other words, there is a 7:1 ratio between the years of a dog's life compared to that of a human. This puts a completely different spin on the assumptions made about an employee's short stints. This week, Darren takes time to demystify several of the factors associated with one's length of time at a company — focusing on the perspectives of those seeking work as well as hiring managers and hiring teams.  Check out the World of UX website at https://www.worldoux.com.Visit the KaizenUX blog at https://uxuncensored.medium.com.

"Hi! This is Rich Hosek, writer, narrator and producer of the Bedtime Stories for Insomniacs fiction podcast. To be clear, these are NOT stories to fall asleep by. That's why we say they're for Insomniacs, because after you listen to one, you'll want to keep on going. So, if you don't have Insomnia, you just may find out what it's like to not be able to fall asleep.. I like to describe the show as an audiobook version of an Anthology TV Show, like The Twilight Zone or Black Mirror—with a few old-time radio style sound effects to create an immersive auditory experience. Although the stories on the podcast range from Horror and Suspense to Science Fiction, Mystery and Humor, the story I'm presenting to you in this showcase has elements of Urban Fantasy. There's something magical that happens. A boy is born who lives his life in dog years, growing up and old seven times faster than a normal child. But it's more than that. It explores how such an unusual condition affects not only his life, but the lives of the people closest to him. I hope you'll enjoy Dog Years, and take a listen to my other tales at BedtimeStories.studio. Thanks, and all the very best." Welcome back to ARTMATTERS: The Podcast for ArtistsOn today's episode I speak with LA-based and Pierogi-represented artist, Andrew Ohanesian. We discuss hating a good idea, the beautiful bad idea, desperation, panic and 'that magic moment,' life reflecting the studio practice, communicating with an audience, experiencing art, memory, parring down narratives, the making of Mandies, control, being an artist assistant, the making of Dog Years and much more. Andrew Ohanesian was born 1980 in Southern California, received a BFA in Art from the University of California, Berkeley, and moved to New York City in 2005. His work spans large-scale site-specific installation, small mutiples and editions, with each series of work channeling an alternate version of himself, such as a lawyer, casino operator, or real estate agent to direct production accordingly. The ideas he chooses to investigate, criticize, and subsume are always topical to the economy and his personal navigation of life, often digging deeply into scars either visible or not - “pushing where it hurts.” He builds environments, strategically placing utilitarian soon-to-be anachronistic elements into the viewer's world to engage with under the auspices of using the object for its intended, manufactured purpose, but within the context of contemporary art. The experience is a nuanced slight-of-hand between the objects or space aggregated, the audience, and his psyche. Relationships between the person and the space, their ego, and what they deem as relatable or comfortable are questioned, disturbed, and shaken, altering their future perspective of their environment and themselves. A house-filling favorite in Las Vegas since she opened as one of the hottest tickets in town in June 2000, Rita Rudner is known for her epigrammatic one-liners. Over the course of a multi-year run she sold almost two million tickets, grossed over a hundred million dollars and become the longest-running solo female comedy show in the history of Las Vegas. She was named Las Vegas's Comedian of The Year nine years in a row and in 2006 received The Nevada Ballet's Woman Of The Year Award. In October 2017 she was given the Casino Entertainment Legend Award. Rita's first solo HBO special, “Rita Rudner's One Night Stand”, was nominated for several awards, as was her eponymous English BBC television show that later appeared in the USA on A&E. Rudner's two one-hour specials for HBO, “Born to Be Mild” and “Married Without Children,” were ratings standouts and she performed all over the country, filling Carnegie Hall in New York three times. In 2008 Rita Rudner: Live From Las Vegas was PBS's first ever stand-up comedy special. Rita Rudner has written five books; her bestselling non-fiction titles, Naked Beneath My Clothes Rita Rudner's Guide to Men  and I Still Have It…I Just Can't Remember Where I Put It, plus the novels Tickled Pink and Turning the Tables.  The audio version of Naked Beneath My Clothes received a Grammy nomination. She is currently working on her autobiography, My Life in Dog Years. Rudner is a frequent collaborator with her writer/producer husband of thirty years, Martin Bergman. The couple's first produced film script was “Peter's Friends.” The film, starring Emma Thompson, Hugh Laurie, Kenneth Branagh, Imelda Staunton, Stephen Fry, and Rita, won the Evening Standard Peter Sellers Award for Best British Film and was nominated for the Goya Award for Best European Film of 1994. The script was nominated for a WGA Best Screenplay Award and Rita won Best Supporting Actress at the American Comedy Awards. Rita Rudner moved to New York at the age of fifteen to become a dancer on Broadway. She appeared in several shows, including the original productions of “Follies” and “Mack and Mabel.” It was while in “Annie” on Broadway that she began exploring the comedy clubs of Manhattan. In the early ‘80s, Rudner took a full-time leap from chorus lines to punch lines and was soon a regular guest on both Late Night With David Letterman and The Tonight Show.  In June 2016 Rita was invited and honored to speak about her career and technique in comedy at Cambridge University, England. In 2017 she was invited by Oprah Winfrey to appear on a cruise to Alaska that Oprah did in partnership with Holland America. In 2018, Rita's tenth TV special was released – A Tale Of Two Dresses. The special also featured Rita and Martin's singer/songwriter daughter Molly Bergman. In September 2018, Rita appeared at the Laguna Playhouse in the new musical comedy “Two's A Crowd.”The show was staged off-Broadway in New York in 2019, and plans were in the works to transfer it to a larger New York theater in 2020 when the Covid pandemic forced those plans to be abandoned. Mark Doty reading at the Unamuno Author Festival. The festival took place in May of 2019 in Madrid, Spain. This reading was recorded at Desperate Literature, an independent bookstore in Madrid. Doty has won the National Book Award for his 2008 collection "Fire to Fire: New and Collected Poems." He was also the first American poet to win the T.S. Elliot prize. In addition to his poems, Doty has written several glowingly reviewed and much-awarded memoirs including "Heaven's Coast" and "Firebird" and the NYTimes best seller, "Dog Years." This reading was recorded almost one year to the day before the killing of George Floyd, and ends with a poem Doty wrote reflecting on the death of Tamir Rice, a twelve year old black boy shot and killed by the police while paying with a toy gun. You'll hear the rawness of the emotion behind the poem in his reading. It's Question Bucket Time! As always, we start out by wrapping up our series discussion, including some discussion of The 08th MS Team's reference to the Vietnam War and whether we think there's anything even there or if US viewers just jump to Vietnam because it is our jungle war but not necessarily Japan's jungle war, why we chose The 08th MS Team despite knowing a lot of people are down on it, the value of talking about things you have mixed feelings about and debating with someone else about different reads, more homie kissing, what kind of albums each member of the 08th MS Team would press. Also, Niamh manages to talk about Icelandic sagas for a bit because fae is extremely that bitch. We then talk about Connor's non-anime thing, The Commercial Album by the Residents. We talk a bit about trying to engage with music even when it doesn't come to you quickly, the history of the Residents as a band and art collective, the racist ethnography of Nanook of the North, the tension between conceptual foundation for an album and the actual experiential quality of listening to an album, Niamh being a bit of an asshole, and the possible influence that the Residents might have had on music that came after. After that, we discuss Niamh's non-anime thing, Attack of the Friday Monsters! A Tokyo Tale, but then kinda just be bummers about how neither of us can identify with this sweet and idyllic portrayal of childhood, but also the ways this game still rings true to some of our experiences with media and card games as kids. We also talk about the differences between sugar-coated, gritty, and bittersweet. We also quickly answer a few questions about tokusatsu (we hate it), magical realism (we love it), and what recent anime we would send through a wormhole to the ‘90s to change anime discourse forever.
