Let us know what you enjoy about the show! What happens when a 12-year-old decides to stop living a lie and pursue her true passion? For Broadway dancer Valeria Yamin, it was the moment that changed everything. In this captivating conversation, Valeria takes us on her journey from Venezuela to Broadway, revealing the pivotal moments that shaped her remarkable career. From tearfully confessing to her father that she wanted to be a performer (not an eye doctor), to facing rejection from her dream school only to find her way there through an unexpected encounter – Valeria's story is a masterclass in resilience and authenticity.Currently performing in the original Broadway cast of "Just In Time" after four seasons as a Radio City Rockette, Valeria speaks candidly about battling impostor syndrome, particularly when transitioning from dance to singing. "I don't have as much singing experience and training as I do with my dancing," she admits. "When I'm singing, I feel a lack of tools." Yet rather than letting this hold her back, she embraced vulnerability and gradual growth, showing how even accomplished performers continue to evolve. The conversation takes a thoughtful turn as Valeria, now 25, reflects on gaining perspective in her career – moving from being "on the train" of non-stop performing to seeing her life from a "bird's eye view." This shift allows her to appreciate her journey while considering what colors and textures she wants to add next. Her approach to setbacks is equally enlightening: "Not now, maybe not ever, but not now, but maybe someday."Throughout the episode, Valeria's definition of living in the moment shines through – being "out of your head and in the world." Her story reminds us that authentic living requires courage, resilience, and the willingness to embrace both successes and redirections as part of our growth.Have you been putting your true passions on hold? Listen to this episode and find the courage to follow your heart, just as Valeria did when she decided to live her truth. If you are enjoying the show please subscribe, share and review! In this episode, we take a fascinating journey behind the scenes with Adam Brand, the fourth-generation owner of M&S Schmalberg Flowers, the last artificial flower factory of its kind in America. Since 1916, this family-owned business has been handcrafting exquisite fabric flowers that have adorned high fashion, Broadway, Hollywood, and some of the world's most well-known celebrities and designers. You've likely seen their work without realizing it—on Hamilton, Boardwalk Empire, The Radio City Rockettes, Bridgerton, The Gilded Age, and countless other productions. Their creations have been featured by fashion icons such as Oscar de la Renta, Ralph Lauren, and Calvin Klein, and have been worn by stars including Beyoncé, Scarlett Johansson, and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.Adam shares the rich history of his family's business, from its early days to the challenges of keeping the craft alive in an ever-changing industry. He also tells the incredible story of his grandfather, Holocaust survivor Harold Brand, whose resilience, perseverance, and sheer determination shaped the company's legacy. You'll hear how Adam found his own path to becoming the next-generation “flower man,” the artistry behind their handcrafted creations, and the game-changing events that transformed M&S Schmalberg forever.Episode Highlights:(3:15) Adam introduces his company and shares its deep history, which began in 1916 with his great-great uncles.(5:59) The remarkable story of Adam's grandfather, Harold Brand—a Holocaust survivor, a man of strength and perseverance, and someone who even survived being shot in the neck during an employee dispute. His resilience and work ethic shaped the company and remain an inspiration today.(16:40) How did Adam become the next-generation “Flower Man”? He shares his deeply personal journey and the pivotal moment when everything changed for him. He also talks about longtime employee Miriam, who has watched generations of the family grow up and whose presence in the workshop brings both joy and nostalgia.(24:35) Ever wondered how these extraordinary flowers are made? Adam walks us through the intricate, all-handcrafted process—an art form that is as meticulous as it is beautiful.(35:42) How long does it take to create a custom flower? The answer depends on many factors. A rush order can be completed in 24 hours, but Adam explains why speed isn't always the best approach.(36:54) In the early 1900s, there were hundreds of artificial flower companies in New York City. Why is M&S Schmalberg the only one left standing? Adam attributes it to luck, magic, and an unbreakable work ethic. He also reminisces about the days when “the streets were alive” with manufacturers like his.(45:20) Adam shares stories of unique custom orders, including how their flowers made it onto Bridgerton.(49:55) Can you recognize a Schmalberg flower when you see one? Probably not—but Adam tells you where to look.(51:28) The phone call they received in 2016 that changed everything—plus a few other game-changing moments that have shaped the company's future.(55:30) What's next for Adam and M&S Schmalberg? What's his vision for the future?(57:10) Is there a question Adam wishes he had been asked? To her 769,000 Instagram followers, fitness entrepreneur-turned-brand founder Amanda Kloots feels like a friend who just happens to sometimes star in movies or host TV shows — she wrapped her gig on CBS's "The Talk" when the show ended last year and hosts "Live From The Other Side" on Netflix. Some of her fans have been following her journey since she started teaching fitness classes nearly a decade ago, in 2016. That was when she first transitioned out of her previous career as a Radio City Rockette and Broadway dancer and started building her fitness business, Amanda Kloots Fitness. Earlier this month, Kloots launched Proper, a wellness brand that debuted with five powder supplements. It is the seventh brand to launch in partnership with Ben Bennett's incubator, The Center — its other brands include Naturium, which exited to E.l.f. Beauty at the end of 2023. Bennett and Kloots are striving to create products that appeal to the "everyday woman who comes to my classes, who is really just looking for something to keep her happy and to make her feel her best," Kloots said on this week's episode of the Glossy Beauty Podcast. Proper's first five products include the greens powder Daily Boost, Metabolism + Energy Boost, Digestion + Bloat Relief, Immune Support, and Calming Aid. Each is $28 and, for now, exclusively available direct-to-consumer. And they're brightly colored to represent the idea of "drinking the rainbow," Kloots said. On this week's episode of The Glossy Beauty Podcast, Kloots discusses how the early days of the boutique fitness boom made her social media savvy, what business lessons she learned from past ventures and collaborations, and what's next for Proper.

The Rockettes are America's best known dance troupe — and a staple of the holiday season — but you may not know the origin of this iconic New York City symbol. For one, they're not even from the Big Apple!Formerly the Missouri Rockets, the dancers and their famed choreographer Russell Markert were noticed by theater impresario Samuel Rothafel, who installed them first as his theater The Roxy, then at one of the largest theaters in the world — Radio City Music Hall. The life of a Rockettes dancer was glamorous, but grueling; for many decades dancing not in isolated shows, but before the screenings of movies, several times a day, a different program each week. There was a very, very specific look to the Rockettes, a look that changed — and that was forced to change by cultural shifts — over the decades. This show is dedicated to the many thousands of women who have shuffled and kicked with the Rockettes over their many decades of entertainment, on the stage, the picket line or the Super Bowl halftime show. This show is a re-edited and remastered version of our 2014 show with a new introduction -- in honor of the upcoming 100th anniversary celebration of the dance troupe which would become the Rockettes.Join us on Patreon for extra podcasts and lots of other goodiesShare your love of the city's history with a Bowery Boys Walks gift certificate!
