On this week's episode of The Girlfriend Doctor, we had a conversation with my very good friend/colleague of many years, Robin Nielsen. Robin is a hormone expert, Certified Clinical Nutritionist, and Board Certified in Holistic Health. Robin has been helping women with menopausal health for many years now and she gives us her secrets to maintain a healthy and thriving life! Robin discusses the importance on not only focusing on sex hormones because they're miniscule compared to the other main hormones, which are cortisol and insulin. She explains why that these are the main hormones women should focus on because they are the main factors that either contribute or deprive our gene expression. These factors essentially control the trajectory of our success. We also talk about her different programs made to help deal with the issues that come with menopause like weight gain, mood destabilization, and more. Robin emphasizes that ladies need to not only attend the hormone reset program but maintain it after it's done. Consistency is key when it comes to repairing our molecular integrity, and our lifestyle choices are the formula. This talk is too interesting to not tune in, so listen, learn, and grow! KEY TAKEAWAYS (with timestamps): [6:32] Hormone replacement therapy [12:52] Benefits of attending health retreats [21:03] Robin does not use supplements in her hormone program [21:43] What Robin's hormone reset program consists of [27:55] Where viewers can get a hold of Robin Robins Hormone Reset: https://naturalhormonesolution.com/hormonereset/?ap_id=annacabeca WHERE TO FIND THE GUEST: https://naturalhormonesolution.com/about/.com MEMORABLE QUOTES: “What I've noticed is that we're very focused on sex hormones… those are all minor hormones, and we're focused on those numbers… we're missing the boat.” “You have to focus on the biggies, which are cortisol and insulin. That's where the lifestyle factors… it's all those factors outside of you that influence your gene expression.” “Well here's the deal, there is something wrong if you don't feel well. And this is where I really encourage you to figure it out.” “For decades I over-exercised and I under-ate, and guess what? I always gained the weight back because I didn't have a sustainable way to take care of myself.” “She said this program has done more to fix what was wrong than any doctor I've been to in the last five years. “My kids have even noticed a difference in my overall mood. I'm much more upbeat and positive. And I think that's one of the best things of Robin's Hormone Reset, is really, you know, bringing families together again.” “This Robin's Reset program is very foundational and that's the kind of change that can happen without any supplementation… some pretty powerful things can happen.” “It's seven days, where actually everyday, we do a hormone assessment. There are six hormones that we go over. It's progesterone and testosterone. And then it's our thyroidal hormones. And then it's insulin and cortisol.”

In this episode, Cindy and Robin discuss: Natural solutions for staying healthy in life, and especially in these different times. The hormone deal breakers that throw off your immune system. The power of having an attitude of gratitude and ways to cultivate that attitude every single day. Clearing toxins, of all kinds, from your life. Key Takeaways: You can grow younger no matter what your age. This is the time for us to take our health really seriously. You can’t control the thoughts that come into your life, but you can choose what you do with it - turn the negative thoughts into positive thoughts intentionally. What you eat, how you eat, and when you eat is very important. You have permission to sleep! Over 7 hours is immuno-protective, but over 8 is really what your body needs to support your health. "Start managing your stressors, start prioritizing things that are important for you, and start cutting things out of your life that don’t serve you because they are stressing you out. They are imbalancing cortisol and insulin, those two major hormones that really dictate how we show up and how our body functions." — Robin Nielsen Connect with Robin Nielsen:Twitter: @Insulite Health PCOS Facebook: Robin Nielsen & Insulite PCOS Facebook Group: Natural Solutions for Hormone Balance Sisterhood Instagram: @robinanielsenWebsite: PCOS.com Join Robin’s Facebook Group to get her Top 10 Tips for Boosting Your Immune System! Hormone imbalance contributes to a PCOS diagnosis.Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) affects one in ten women of child-bearing age. Metabolic issues prompt this condition, and balancing the hormones can provide relief. Androgen excess can lead to a PCOS diagnosis. The cysts on the ovaries are not necessarily the cause of dark, course hair growth and menstrual discomfort. Lack of ovulation, irregular menstrual cycles, weight gain, irritability, and dark, course hair growth can indicate PCOS. Listen as Robin Nielsen joins Dr. Susanne Bennett to discuss PCOS and how hormones influence this condition.

I want to share a fabulous discussion that I had recently with Dr. Michael Ruscio about women's hormones and how gut bacteria can have such a tremendous effect on them! He is a functional medicine practitioner with an emphasis in gut health. He also specializes in autoimmune, thyroid, and digestive disorders. He is a wealth of knowledge and provided many great insights. Listen to our discussion on “The Hormone to Gut Connection” Key points from our interview include: Pylori - dangerous or protective? Pylori and Hashimoto's thyroid autoimmunity connection How Hashimoto's may be improved with H. Pylori treatment Hormonal changes that affect the GI tract, and solutions such as the use of chasteberry for PMS Melatonin disruption effects on Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Did you know melatonin, the hormone of sleep regulation, is anti-inflammatory and an anti-oxidant, too? How Vitamin D improves IBS, and is the "great mediator"! Stress and a causal decrease in protective GI bacteria Benefits of exercise on gut bacteria - who knew? (Just like Goldilocks, too little and too much are not good). Meet Dr. Michael Ruscio Dr. Ruscio gives smart, busy people suffering from symptoms like daily bloating, constant fatigue, and unexplained weight gain, simple steps to start living a health, enjoyable life again, no matter how long they've been suffering. He is a Functional Medicine Practitioner, a Doctor of Chiropractic, and is lead researcher in a current study on IBS. He is a working on Post-doctoral Functional Medicine study with educational bodies such as: The National College of Naturopathic Medicine, The Institute of Functional Medicine, The American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine, Kalish Research, and Defeat Autism Now. He has spoken at the SIBO Symposium Summit, Paleo FX, Ancestral Health Symposium, Sean Croxton's Digestion Sessions, as well as many other International conferences and top health podcasts. You can find out more about his simple, evidence-based approach to healing chronic illness at www.drruscio.com. Really enjoyed this podcast with Magdalena Wszelaki, the founder of Hormones Balance. Magdalena talked about the significant health crisis she went through as a result of a highly stressful career in advertising. A high profile and demanding lifestyle, stressful in every way! Mentally stressful, never in the same time zone, lack of sleep, hotel, and fast food on the run. This eventually ended in complete adrenal fatigue, autoimmune conditions, estrogen dominance, and even depression. But she was able to heal herself and go into complete remission from her health issues through truly using "food as medicine". She adopted a number of key nutrition principles as well as her signature method of cooking for hormone balance. In the interview she discusses: Anchoring and her three-legged stool analogy about healing the gut and liver, and stabilizing sugar levels The importance of an elimination diet (she lives gluten, dairy, and soy-free) How eating the right foods is key to cooking for hormone balance Her "day in the life of cooking for hormone balance"... This starts with warm water with a squeeze of lemon and apple cider vinegar, and includes a PFF breakfast (Protein, Fat, and Fiber) Her weight loss secret! Quick and easy five-minute lunch and dinner selections I loved the discussion, which included her back story, coming from a communist country and living without the luxuries of life. Her family had to improvise, and she learned to improvise, too. Along with some of those stories she also shares with us the "roots" of her health problems, going back to her birth and early childhood. I encourage you to watch or listen in...I think you'll enjoy it! Oh...and after watching the video don't forget...Magdalena has a special gift for you... a free cooking workshop where you will learn much more about healing foods and preparing easy, nutritious and hormone balancing meals! About Magdalena Wszelaki Magdalena Wszelaki is the founder of Hormones Balance, a nutrition coaching practice. Her practice is dedicated to helping women rebalance their hormones with nutritional and lifestyle changes. She is a certified nutrition coach, speaker, educator, and a soon-to-be-published cookbook author. Her hormonal health journey encompassed grappling with Graves' and Hashimoto's Disease (autoimmune conditions causing thyroid failure), adrenal fatigue, depression, and estrogen dominance. Today she lives a symptoms-free awesome life and teaches women how to accomplish the same in her online programs and education. Dr Anna Cabeca talks to Robin Nielsen about PCOS, excess androgen and the symptoms that relate to it.
