Today we're talking to Northstar Sail GP's flight Controller Billy Gooderham! After season 4, things were looking a little grim for the future of Canada's Sail GP team. Juvenescence is a noun that refers to the state or period of being young. The latin word juvenis (YOU ven ees) which means ‘young' is the basis for the word juvenile as well as the basis for our word of the day which entered the English language in the early 19th century. If I had been more determined to prepare for the future, I would have spent my juvenescence keeping up with the latest technology. But instead I spent my youth playing guitar and keeping up with the latest music videos.

"Yasmin Williams reinvents the guitar with a dazzling array of two-handed techniques, hammering, bowing, and percussion effects – but all in the service of the music. Music that dances, and, in its own way, sings." (John Schaefer) Guitarist, composer, and songwriter Yasmin Williams is both a multi-instrumentalist and multi-tasker. She’s a fingerstyle lap-tapping guitar player who sits and rests the guitar in her lap, to make the guitar into a table on which she sometimes mounts a kalimba; her distinct style also leaves her tap shoe-wearing feet available for her to make beats. Williams also plays banjo, bass, kora, and as she puts it - “anything with strings.” Her keyboard-like percussive approach might have come about from playing (and eventually beating) the Guitar Hero 2 video game. She then got a “real” electric guitar, figured out how to master it her own way, and learned about other guitar heroes – Elizabeth Cotten, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Eddie Van Halen, and Jimi Hendrix. Yasmin Williams’ wide variety of influences also includes hip-hop, classic blues, and a degree in music theory and composition from NYU. During the conversation, Williams explains that her use of extended techniques: tapping the guitar from above with both hands, playing the strings with a cello bow, hammering with what looks like a Patellar reflex test hammer in a dulcimer-like fashion, a pick that she sometimes wears on her thumb, the hammer-ons and pull-offs, and beat-making on the guitar (and with her feet) – are all in the service of her songwriting. Her next full-length album, Urban Driftwood, both a beautifully melodic and, of course, percussive affair, is due out in the fall of 2020. Yasmin Williams shares her latest songs without words – featuring all her multi-tasking limbs - remotely, from her home in Virginia. - (Caryn Havlik) Set LIst: "Through the Woods" "Juvenescence" "Restless Heart" Unwind by Yasmin Williams

Imagine meeting your great-great-great-grandkids. Or going to law school in your 80s, learning to snowboard at 110, taking a gap decade instead of a gap year. Greg Bailey dreams of a world where everybody lives twice as long, and no one gets sick. His startup, Juvenescence, is developing a whole ecosystem of anti-aging medications to help you live longer, healthier. Which sounds great. But would this world of perky centenarians wreak havoc on our already strained resources? Would natural aging become taboo? Would dying? It's a technology that prompts us to ask some of the biggest questions of all.

In today's show, I'll dive into the third part of a series on investing with paid research, using a book called Juvenescence by Al Chalabi and Jim Mellon. These guys have their own investment company, do all the research, and we get to benefit. They don't make lots of money on the books, it's literally the research. The book is all about researching ways of living forever, or extending the human life. In today's show, I'll talk about four companies in the space that specialize in Gene Editing technology, mentioned in the book to provide an idea of the research. SGMO, EDIT, CRSP, BLUE If you have any feedback, please send an email to alex.richwagen@gmail.com Thanks! My guest on the show today is Jim Mellon, co-author of a new book called Juvenescence. Jim is a visionary entrepreneur with a flair for identifying emerging global trends. Most notably and very publicly, he predicted the credit crunch of 2007-08 in a book entitled “Wake Up! Survive and Prosper in the Coming Economic Turmoil”. The book cited catalysts for the impending crisis including unsustainable levels of consumer debt in the western world, a U.S. housing crash, derivative financial instruments and governmental fiscal mismanagement – the rest is history! As an investor, Jim has built a worldwide business empire. He’s serially amongst the top 10% in the Sunday Times Rich List and holds a master’s degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Oxford University. In his new book Juvenescence, co-authored with Al Chalabi, Jim provides a layman’s guide to longevity. It investigates the new technologies and explains how to benefit from the life extending technologies both personally and professionally. The book helps readers unravel the science, offers ideas on potential investment and reveals the views of the key opinion leaders. Here’s my conversation with billionaire investor Jim Mellon, in episode 310 of Informed Choice Radio.
Welcome to the 43rd CONKERS’ CORNER recorded on 25th March 2017 at the Master Investor Show in Islington. In this interview I have the pleasure of speaking to Jim Mellon @jimmhk the renowned serial entrepreneur, self-made multi-millionaire investor, best selling author and the owner of the Master Investor Show. As one of Britain’s richest individuals with his wealth estimated to be exceeding £900 million, Jim has been described as our very own Warren Buffett. The son of a diplomat, he read Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) at Oxford University, where he attained his Master’s Degree. However unlike many of his peers, he chose not go into the world of politics as he had travelled widely whilst he was young and had always intended to travel as soon he finished his studies. He was offered six jobs and chose to begin his career as a trainee Fund Manager with GT Management (now owned by Invesco) in Hong Kong. He has readily admitted that at the time, “I only had a vague idea of the workings of shares and bonds”. Jim made a great success of his time with GT Management, however when he was around 24 years of age his first boss and mentor at GT, Richard Thornton left the business. They sent about setting up their own Fund Management business and co-founded Thornton Management. By the time Jim was 28 years of age he was millionaire. After more than six years with Thornton, Jim set up his own business in 1991, now known as Charlemagne Capital and Regent Pacific. Alongside these businesses, he also has a private investment company, the Burnbrae Group, which makes up most of his vast investment endeavours, all of which have made him a potential future self made investor billionaire. Jim has also co-written several best selling books with Al Chalabi which you can find here http://www.burnbrae.com/books . Their new book “Juvenescence: Investing in the Age of longevity” will be released next month, and you can pre-order a copy now at https://www.juvenescence-book.com/ . For those that are intrigued by the title of the book, Juvenescence means “the state or period of being young”. The book discusses the benefits of a healthy life; what is good and detrimental for us and the breakthrough technologies that will enable all of us to live longer, as well as potentially invest in. In the discussion and video with Jim, he provides an insight into the journey that he has taken, which so far has encompassed Fund Management, Investing, Emerging Markets, Asia, Russia, America, Technology, Healthcare, being an Author, Private Investor and much much more. The topics we discussed include: Making informed decisions; Educational philanthropy; Pensions; Financial risks; Investing Strategy; Investment lessons learned; Russian Mafia; His life at risk; Master Investor Show; “Curiosity, Adaptability & Application”; No easy route to riches; Investing; Collaboration of information; Sharing of information; His new book : ‘Juvenescence’; Risks; Longevity. He has experienced several financial crashes and also turned around Regent Pacific from the brink of collapse after the Russian financial crisis. Jim stresses, “Like everyone, I have made a tremendous amount of mistakes”. Listen now to gain insights into how Jim Mellon selects, researches and filters his investments in order to find the best cutting edge long-term potential opportunities for his investing empire. Learn from the lessons in his successful, insightful investing journey and the thought provoking knowledge from his many investing books.
"We live with an odd mix of immature people incapable of adult responsibility and yet full of extreme self-confidence,” said an English menace. But perhaps Carl is onto something - what of this Neverland with its abundance of "Lost Boys"? Not surprisingly, women complain of immaturity in the opposite sex, but they themselves aren't spared this epidemic. What makes us mature adults? Maybe saying "I do" or buying a mini-van? Not really. In today's culture, there's a restless, sexualized childishness - an endless adolescence, and we want to know who (or what!) is to blame! Carl, Aimee, & Todd have their theories…The Alliance has a few of copies of "Juvenescence" by Robert Harrison that we are giving away. Sign up for your chance to win.
