Foto: c) Robo Wunderkind
KidsLab - a podcast for parents and educators passionate about STEAM education
We’re talking to Anna Iarotska, the CEO and co-founder of Robo Wunderkind, an award-winning edtech company that provides innovative early education solutions which are currently in use in over 200 schools worldwide. The company Robo Wunderkind is based in Vienna, Austria, and they currently sell a couple of robotic kits. These kits include a selection of kid-friendly, easy to connect blocks. The Blocks can easily be connected, they just snap together!Besides having a really compelling edtech solution consisting of the robot hardware and the apps, there are also teaching materials available that help educators to apply this in class.https://kidslab.dev/2019/12/16/robo-wunderkind-with-anna-iarotska/
Robo Wunderkind is a coding and robotics platform for ages 5 to 12 that disguises coding education with endless fun. Both you and your kid can create and recreate your own clever robot toys together using smart building blocks - you are only limited by the imagination. The blocks feature lights, motors, and sensors, all of which respond to the app to bring the toy to life. With three complexity levels, Robo Wunderkind advances in complexity as your child grows, so it is always engaging, educational and fun. So fun, in fact, that kids will not even realize they are learning! As an added bonus, it is compatible with your kid’s LEGO set. Check them out at robowunderkind.com and their kickstarter at: https://kickstarter.com/projects/startrobo/robo-wunderkind-smart-building-blocks-for-young-creators
The Vienna-based hardware startup Robo Wunderkind develops modular programmable robots for young children: with Robo Wunderkind, kids can just snap the modules together in different configurations to build their robotics creations. Once the robot is built, it can be programmed in an app, which uses a graphical drag and drop style programming. No prior coding or even reading knowledge is necessary. Kids will easily create personalized virtual dashboards and control their creations to solve mazes, go on treasure hunts, play music, navigate around obstacles - the possibilities are endless. We discuss the following aspects of Robo Wunderkind: The first robot that kids as young as 5 years old can build and program. Teaches children the basics of coding and robotics. Teaches creativity, problem-solving and critical thinking skills through play. Kids will grow up understanding the role of technology. 14 different types of building blocks and the commands in the app are categorized by color: the most intuitive way of learning for kids. Essentially, their first product is an educational robot that syncs with intuitive mobile applications to help children understand the basics of programming. Robo Wunderkind was also part of the world’s first and largest hardware accelerator HAX in 2014 and Finalist of TechCrunch Disrupt SF Startup Battlefield in 2015.
