“It's really important that I get outside, out of the fluorescent lights, out of my uniform, and chase my own dreams and chase my own wants and desires outside of the career that I love so much.”Sarah Barker says that she can't fully explain what it is about Kinder Scout that she loves so much but she thinks it's because it makes her feel a certain way. It feels safe one minute and threatening another and she likes the challenge of both those places. In the first part of this interview you'll listen to Sarah talking about her first wildcamp on Kinder Scout and why she leaves the comfort of her family home to go out alone in nature to spend a night on a local hill or mountain. We recorded this part while hunkered down in the porch of her tent on Grindslow Knoll until we gave in to the howling wind and cold to the warmth of a log fire in my bungalow in Edale village. In the second half of the interview, Sarah shares why she started her YouTube channel which beautifully documents her wildcamping trips, how she learned navigation skills and of course what makes her Wild About Kinder. Sarah's biographySarah is a Midwife, she chose this career path because she has an innate passion and drive for nurturing people. Supporting families through vulnerable life events is at the core of who she is and she gains a great deal of satisfaction from caring for birthing people as they become families. She lives with her Husband, teenage children and 4 dachshunds near the Peak District and has recently been working on renovating her forever home. She has a YouTube channel with over 3000 subscribers and 74 videos published to date. She started filming her camping adventures in 2024 and now believes that her videos have become an important extension to her camps to keep them alive for longer. The unique connections that she has made with ‘the best friends she may never meet' continues to bring her joy and is highly motivating for herself and for others who either wish to explore the outdoors themselves or do so already. This diary of memories will continue to build throughout her exploration of the Peak District predominantly and become a legacy to her family when she is no longer able to do it. Get up close and personal with Sarah Barker in today's Espresso. This avid fitness enthusiast, certified trainer, mom of four, and X-endurance affiliate is living a purpose-driven life thanks to the residual income she earns from direct sales. Sadly, this business model has garnered a lot of bad reputation through the years, as many people have lost their money on pyramid schemes. However, Sarah works hard to prove that this is an honest job that can help just about anyone make decent money to live a comfortable life. The key to success lies in being authentic. Instead of just pushing products to make money, you need to build connections and establish relationships. When you provide value, people will come to you. Remember, in a good sale, every party wins. With Sarah's passion for fitness and selling, she has more control over her life while earning good money and staying home with her kids at the same time. She considers this income stream an amazing opportunity because she gets paid according to how much she works. And Sarah is a woman who hustles hard! Keep in mind, when you are passionate about something, it will snowball and positively influence every aspect of your life. Show Notes: In today's show, we talk about: How Sarah Barker's active family shaped her mindset with regards to the fitness realm, starting with hobbies then moving on to competitive martial arts as early as grade six. What roles fitness can play in a person's life, considering how much the fitness industry has evolved over the years. How fitness has the power to teach the biggest lessons which carry over in other areas of life, including marriage and rearing kids. Why fitness coaching is not about you but about other people, especially when you know you're changing every aspect of a person's life. How ego can get in the way especially if you know that you excel in something, so being self-aware matters to keep yourself in check. What routines work well for self-care and business journey while managing family and other endeavors together. Why aiming to accomplish priorities helps instead of trying to keep everything balanced because many responsibilities mean sacrifices must be made to accomplish goals. How residual income helps harmonize your life with priorities and how it can help you accomplish what you want. How direct sales is like fitness as it takes time and discipline to make a six-figure income because it can never happen overnight. Why you need to find out what you want in your career, evaluate what you're willing to sacrifice, and find a way to get everything done. Why sales, in general, gets a bad reputation because people have been schemed and burned before. How to get over the stigma of doing direct sales as people often have a misconception about this business model. When you sell something, you need to detach yourself from the money concept because you must remember you are serving people first and foremost, so they will trust you enough to give you their money or buy your stuff. How it's important to have multiple streams of income and lean into the people with leadership to guide you. As a new teacher finding the right CPD can feel a bit like searching for a needle in a haystack. There are many courses out there aimed at teachers- both online, in person. For free, and for a fee. Ones that will give you letters after your name, and ones that will just give you a certificate of attendance. But this year in particular will see a host of new teachers looking to fill gaps that school closures may have left in their classroom experience. So what CPD is worth pursuing? Tes recruitment editor, Grainne Hallahan, caught up with Sarah Barker of Orchard School in Bristol to talk about where and how a new teacher can begin their search. For more on this topic why not join our upcoming webinar with author and educator Jill Berry (https://register.gotowebinar.com/register/8215975703720860688?source=podcast). On Monday 21 September at 4pm (BST) Jill will be looking at how early-career teachers can make the most of the CPD on offer.

Some 230 people were at Beechworth's George Kerford Hotel for the "Managing Climate Risk in Agriculture" conference staged by the Farmers for Climate Acton (FCA) late in October. An impressive array of speakers covered most every aspect of farming in a changing climate from physical risks through to the emotional and mental health of farmers. Most of the presentations would have been sufficient has they been the entire substance of the conference to leave the audience in deep thought, but it was that of MinterEllison corporate lawyer and climate change expert specializing in climate risk, Sarah Barker, who set many to thinking and appeared to empower people.
Sarah Barker from the Melbourne law firm, MinterEllison, helps corporations and institutional investors manage dynamic environmental, social and governance risks through the corporate governance lens. After a "light bulb" moment a decade or so ago, Sarah has become passionate about helping people better understand the financial and corporate risk associated with climate change. Sarah will be among the impressive array of speakers at a Farmers for Climate Action conference at Beechworth later this month.Sarah was kind enough to share some of her thoughts with "Climate Conversations".

Looking beyond COP21: How will asset owners respond to an international climate agreement and the global energy transition to low-carbon? Given the sluggishness of regulatory action against climate change in most nations and at the international scale, many companies continue to derive significant income from activities that endanger the climate. In turn, many professional investment companies such as pension funds, mutual funds, in the US and Europe, and sovereign wealth funds invest in such “high carbon” assets, placing pension savers’ and other stakeholders’ assets at great risk. The level of risk-taking represented by high-carbon assets leaves investment fiduciaries open to legal liability. That is the argument advanced by the Asset Owners Disclosure Project (AODP), considered in this episode. AODP is an independent not-for-profit global organization whose objective is to protect retirement savings and other long-term investments from the investment risks posed by climate change by improving disclosure and industry best practice. This podcast features the CEO of AODP who explains how climate change represents significant risks to portfolio value for the world’s largest investors. Two guest lawyers speak to the rise of fiduciary trust and securities law as new drivers of action on climate change risk by institutional investors around the world. The experts are interviewed by Myanna Dellinger, Associate Professor of Law with the University of South Dakota School of Law.Julian Poulter is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of the AODP. Sarah Barker is a Special Counsel in the Corporate Group in Minter Ellison's Melbourne office, and has published extensively on trustee fiduciary duty and climate risk. Ms. Barker provides advice to AODP on climate risk and fiduciary duty in the Australian context. Jay Youngdahl is a partner in the Houston-based law firm, Youngdahl & Citti, P.C. He is currently a Visiting Scholar at the College of Business at San Francisco State University and has been a Senior Fellow with the Hauser Institute’s Initiative for Responsible Investment at Harvard University. Mr. Youngdahl provides advice to AODP on fiduciary law and climate change risk in the United States.
