Six months later, they have no International fixtures and have not played at home since 2022. Henry Moeran is joined by TMS commentator Daniel Norcross to assess what could be done to help Scotland and hears from the Director of Performance at Cricket Scotland, Steve Snell. Dr. Kerri Andrews is a writer, academic, and passionate walker whose work explores the deep connection between women, walking, and storytelling. She is the author of Wanderers: A History of Women Walking and editor of Way Makers: An Anthology of Women's Writing about Walking. Her latest book, Pathfinding: On Walking, Motherhood and Freedom, is a deeply personal and thought-provoking exploration of how motherhood reshapes a woman's identity, freedom, and relationship with the outdoors. Having developed a love for walking in the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District, Kerri has since climbed over 100 Munros in Scotland, though she has yet to convince her two young children to join her.  In this episode of the Tough Girl Podcast, Kerri shares her journey through postnatal depression, the challenges of early motherhood, and how walking became a vital tool for self-discovery, healing, and empowerment. She also sheds light on the often-overlooked stories of historical women walkers, offering a fresh perspective on the intersection of movement, motherhood, and independence. Tune in to hear Kerri's inspiring story and how she found her way back to herself—one step at a time. *** Catch the latest episodes of the Tough Girl Podcast, dropping every Tuesday at 7 am UK time! It's a big week ahead for the Scotland Women's National Team as they look to take a giant step towards qualification for a second consecutive World Cup Finals, being held in Australia and New Zealand next summer. John B is joined by four special guests with a fountain of knowledge of the Women's game - Chris Marshall, Amy Canavan, Jane Lewis and Emma Black - to assess our chances of defeating Austria in the European Playoff Semi Final on Thursday 6 October, then Republic of Ireland on 11 October. Fortunately, we have been given two home games at Hampden that increases our chances of victory enormously, albeit against two tough sides, particularly the Austrians who were Quarter Finalists at this summers Euro's. We look at the transition under Head Coach Pedro Martinez Losa, analyse the 25-player squad, assess the opposition and what we need to do to win the games. Chris also best explains the complex playoff route that will likely see Scotland facing an Intercontinental playoff scenario in New Zealand in February, but will only play one more game, therefore we are essentially three wins away from World Cup 2023. Ticket prices for the games at the National Stadium are £10 adults and £5 concessions, with the Ireland game half price if you buy both matches together with a full refund for that game in the event of a loss to Austria (that won't happen). It's an even better bargain for Scotland Supporters Club members who get FREE entry to both matches, so if you can please get yourself along to Hampden to cheer the girls onto Australia and New Zealand next July. On the eve of Scotland Women's National Team finding out their World Cup playoff fate, John B & Vinny are joined by Dave Smith to review their recent matches. First up, an away trip to Netherlands proved to be a useful exercise as Scotland gave a good account of themselves before going down 2-1 to the FIFA ranked sixth best side in Women's Football. This was followed up by a resounding 6-0 win in Faroe Islands to wrap up their qualifying group, where second place was long wrapped up. The lads then discuss Scotland's potential playoff opponents as we will have to face two one-off ties on 6 & 11 October. Even then winning both matches might not be enough to secure qualification as only the two best playoff winners, combined with their qualifying campaign record, will advance to the Finals in Australia and New Zealand, with the third playoff winner going into a ten team tournament in New Zealand in February to fight for one of the three remaining Finals spots. It's all broken down by this link... https://www.uefa.com/womensworldcup/news/0268-1215b5f47763-e5f6d59d5df2-1000--play-off-draw-friday/ We then discuss the SWPL1 season so far and what teams have surprised us the most, both in an overachieving and underachieving aspect, and give our predictions for the weekend games. We also give credit to Rangers for moving their Women's Champions League qualifier against Benfica to Ibrox, and predict a few crowd records will be broken across SWPL1 this season. Let's hope Scotland get a kind draw in the playoffs, two home ties would be nice! The Men's National Team's World Cup dream may be over, but the Scotland Women's side hopes of reaching their finals in Australia and New Zealand next year is still very much alive. In this episode, John B is joined by Chris Marshall and Amy Canavan to preview their latest qualifier against Ukraine which, due to the ongoing atrocities in their homeland, is being played in Poland. We look back at what's been a mixed campaign for the SWNT under new manager Pedro Martinez Losa. After kicking off with three consecutive wins, Losa's side required a 93rd minute equaliser from Abi Harrison to spare their blushes against the Ukrainians at Hampden, before being thrashed by runaway Group B leaders Spain. The Spaniards then completed the double over the Scots to clinch qualification, but Scotland still have a playoff spot in their hands if they can win next Friday and against Faroe Islands in September. Chris and Amy give their thoughts on the opposition and try to predict the lineup Scotland will send out that will, hopefully, see us come away with three vital points and one foot in the playoffs. What does representing their country mean to female footballers? International football has acted as a world stage for women; a platform for their fight, especially so now, as we can see has been the case for Afghanistan's female football team. The first official England and Scotland Women's international was played 100 years after the first men's official international between the same two sides. Within those 100 years women were most definitely playing internationally, and often sides would play tours and competitions unofficially representing England. So for many women, representing their country meant not being officially recognised in their victories and defeats. Now, there are women who will be representing their country this summer for the UEFA Women's Euro 2022, some for the very first time. With them, they carry the history of the women who played, both unofficially and officially, before them.  This episode focuses on the importance of the deep connection between women's football and international tours and competitions over the years. On an evening where the World Record attendance for a Women's Football match was broken in Barcelona, John B was joined by SFA Head of Girls and Women's Football Fiona McIntyre. The chat begins by touching on that 90,000+ crowd at Camp Nou for Barcelona v Real Madrid in the Women's Champions League, and how the SWPL has benefited recently from matches being held at SPFL stadiums like Pittodrie, Easter Road, Tynecastle and Celtic Park. This leads us onto Fiona's temporary role as Interim Managing Director of SWPL to oversee the transition from Scottish Women's Football to SPFL. She was happy to respond to people who are sceptical of the move and explain the benefits of the changeover. We then discuss the Scotland Women's National Team's chances of qualifying for the World Cup and look ahead to their upcoming World Cup Qualifier against Spain at Hampden, where tickets can be purchased at £10 adults and £5 children - or FREE if you're a Scotland Supporters Club member. Fiona then talks about her role at the SFA and looks back on how she got involved in the game from the age of five before previewing this weekends Scottish Cup Quarter Finals. We round off with the usual slowfire questions, including a strong six-a-side Women's team.
