“UNREEL: West Coast Express” is the story of the men who reinvigorated a once vibrant hockey market as told by Markus Naslund, Todd Bertuzzi, Brendan Morrison as well as other prominent teammates and figures. Written and narrated by Scott Rintoul, it is a journey from some of the darkest days in franchise history to the precipice of greatness along a path of unforgettable triumphs and defeats. Four years after nearly winning the Stanley Cup, the Vancouver Canucks were engulfed in chaos. Amidst a change in ownership, constant organizational churn and a four-year playoff drought, three unlikely stars emerged from the rubble to resuscitate the franchise. Despite none of them being drafted by the Canucks, Naslund, Bertuzzi and Morrison came to form one of hockey's most dominant lines, the West Coast Express. A nightly fixture on highlight reels, the West Coast Express turned Vancouver back into a contender, and they appeared destined for a run at the Stanley Cup before it all came undone in a matter of moments. Vancouver Whitecaps head coach, Vanni Sartini, joined Matt and Blake after a victory over a CPL team in Valour. Happy they did their job and have now qualified for the quarter final. They have stopped this bad tradition of losing to a lower level team. Was pleased with the first half but second half became sleepy. That’s why the chances dried up. A game of two faces. Likes that the last two games have been clean sheets. Talked about Teibert. The soul of the group. Thinks that he has been picked on by the fans too much. He leads the team on the pitch with his intensity. Talked about Chiellini. Has met him a lot of times but not recently. Everything is possible. Would absolutely love to have the captain of the Italian national team. Will say no for now as they don’t have the rights. Says he had a very bad family situation but all the stress overwhelmed him on the pitch. Is proud of him. It wasn’t an injury, was related to his mental condition. Scott Rintoul joined for his regular Thursday spot! Talked about the return of Boudreau and if and when it will happen. Says it’s not done until it’s done. Our Thursday regular, Scott Rintoul, joined for a wide look in the world of sports. Started off with the Canucks win in Vegas. Talked about EP40 and the season he has had. Tied Allvin superstar comments and his 4 point performance. Not saying that it is a direct result but if he had that relayed to him, he should want to go out and prove him wrong. Talked about Bo Horvat. Doesn’t think he will retire a Canuck but is simply playing the odds. Talked about Bruce Boudreau and if he will be back. Talked about the bevy of sports this weekend. Excited for MLB opening day. The Jays have him eager for it. Masters is so special. Our Canucks reporter, JPat joined us. Naturally started talking about how Tiger did in his first round at the Masters. Not a perfect round but expectations were pretty low to start. To be within striking distance of the lead is pretty impressive. Talked about the resurgence of EP40. Thinks he needed 40 games after the layoff and injury last year. Doesn’t want to compare him to Miller but noted that JT has a better production rate in the same amount of time. It was remarkably complete effort by Pettersson. For Jeff, it was the playmaking and the complete 200 foot game. Things that we haven’t seen overall from start to finish. You hope that he can hit next season running with this lead up of 40 games. He will be without the contract distractions. Doesn’t think the Petey took Allvin’s comments personally. Talked about the special teams and turnaround in-season. JPat has never seen anything like it in his career with this club. Talked about Spencer Martin after reports of a one-way contract. Think’s it’s a good move to bring him up. When opportunity knocked, he was there. Nobody will forget the 50 saves vs EDM, even in a losing effort. You’ve hear this management talk about cap space. Talked about Bo Horvat. Logical side of the brain says he doesn’t retire a Canuck. We don’t truly know what this management group thinks of Bo. Not trying to run him out of town but will just say no at this point. There will be another uniform worn by Bo when it’s all said and done. Talked about Brad Richardson. There was 8 years between game winning goals for him.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Scott Rintoul, our Thursday regular, stopped by in his regular spot. Talked about the playoff race, essentially, coming to an end. Talked about EP40 and the feel in his body language and what kind of player that makes him. He can do things others in the league can not do. Talked about how the goalies will roll out the rest of the way. Thinks a lot of fans would be encouraged if Spencer Martin gets a chance. Talked about what it will be like for Canadian players and who they would want to play. As a fan, wants to see England. Talked about the offside rule in soccer. JPat joined Matt and Blake in his usual spot. Talked about how the Canucks are just playing out the season after a loss vs the Blues. Talked about Conor Garland. Talked about Demko and the net he took his frustration out on. Thought the post didn’t deserve it. Talked about Brady Keeper and his timeline to return to the NHL. The President of the Vancouver Canadians, Andy Dunn, joined Matt and Blake as the C’s get ready to gear up for their first season in Vancouver since 2019. They are as excited as they can be to be back in Vancouver. They had to pick up and move to Oregon for last season to keep the franchise alive. Andy talked about the state of the Nat. There has been a lot of upgrades after not being used for so long. Just seeing the exterior painted really brings the stadium back to life. Talked about the changes that have been made to the franchise as far as MiLB is concerned. Talked about some prospects that could make their way through Vancouver. Talked about the response to tickets. Every full-season club has a difficult time selling tickets in April and May. Once summer comes, there will be no problem. Our Thursday regular, Vancouver Sportscaster, Scott Rintoul joined Matt and Blake in his regular slot. Talked about the Canucks winning games despite peak Demko. Talked about who he sees getting moved at the deadline, league wide. Talked about who the Seahawks could be targeting. Don’t see them going the Mayfield route. JPat joined us in his regular spot. Tells us that it’s possible to go to bed in a playoff spot. It’s absolutely crazy to think of when you think about where they were. You are required to scoreboard watch on a nightly basis. JPat doesn’t see a way that Motte with be here by noon on Monday. Talked about Thatcher Demko and his usage. We don’t fully know where his breaking point is, if you want to use that term. Talked about the run of form lately for the Red Wings. It’s not good… Talked about agent twitter with Miller’s agent chiming in. Former Canucks AGM and Daily Face Off Contributor, Chris Gear joined Matt and Blake to talk about the upcoming trade deadline and what it looks like on the inside of an organization. Says it’s weird to be focused on 32 teams, rather than just one. Talked about a few of the deals that have already happened. Talked about the Canucks. Says they have some choices to make with Motte. He is a bit of Swiss army knife. Talked about Boeser. They could reverse salary arbitrate if they want. Lots of options. Current management are very capable. Players take teams to arbitration all the time. There is nothing wrong with it even though it doesn’t happen often but Chris thinks it's a viable option. Talked about Vegas. Talked about Edmonton. Goaltending has been a little better. They made a trade for Kane earlier so they may not want to tinker too much. If you have McDavid and Draisaitl, you need to make the playoffs. Scott Rintoul joined Matt and Blake in his usual Thursday. Answered the poll question and if the season has been salvaged, despite the team potentially not making the playoffs. Talked about what he thinks we will see at the game tomorrow when Ovi gets here. Thinks there will be more of a positive support for Ukraine, rather than negative energy for Russia. Could also see him move past Jagr for 3rd all-time in goals. That will bring a different energy. Said that Boeser got the big night he needed. Talked about Allvin saying the phone hasn’t rung as much as he said it will. Talked about Wilson to Denver. Said he set the table for it last year. If you didn’t think him getting moved was a possibility, you were kidding yourself. Surprised they didn’t get an A player back for him. A lot of draft capital but he was the best player in the team’s history. This is a litmus test for getting it done in the draft. Addressed rumours of perhaps Brady to San Fran. Not discounting it completely. Our Canucks reporter, Jeff Paterson joined us after a late affair with MTL. Doesn’t know how Habs won 7 of 8 coming in after the way they looked last night. Questioned Marty St. Louis and his tactics with pulling the goalie. Talked about Boeser’s game. Talked about the scoring from the back end. This is the 12th time this season that they have reached 5 goals. 10 of those 12 have come under Boudreau. 7 of them have come since the all-star break. Can’t say the season has been salvaged. They went all in on the moves last year for playoffs and they aren’t there yet. The team hasn’t lost back to back games since the middle of January. Talked about the reception Ovi will get.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
