We're back with another installment in our spooky season's #Screamaween covering the film that acts as a soft reset for the franchise and its fifth entry: SCREAM (2022). Bringing back our old gang of characters and introducing us to a whole batch of fresh faces, this "requel" did the impossible by proving that that franchise had life left in it, even following the death of Wes Craven. We're joined by co-host of Horror, Sci-Fi, & Beyond Drew Pasanen as well as friend of the show Jackson Harper to dissect all of the sharp, clever, and fun ways this film reinvigorated the franchise for a new generation, including the fascinating things it has on its mind about legacy and fandom. Also featuring a Patron-only segment discussing THE SIMPSONS Treehouse of Horror X, this is a hearty and fun conversation we really hope you'll enjoy.3:36 - Business TimePatron Only Segment: THE SIMPSONS, Treehouse of Horror X5:32 - SCREAM (2022)See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

This week we have a look at the 2022 film Scream AKA for convenience sake, Scream 5. This is Episode #406! Scream is a 2022 American slasher film directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, and written by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick. It is the fifth installment in the Scream film series; though billed as a relaunch of the film series, the film is a direct sequel to Scream 4 (2011). The first film in the series to not be directed by Wes Craven, following his death in 2015, the film is dedicated to Craven at the beginning of the closing credits.[5] The plot takes place twenty-five years after the original Woodsboro murders from Scream (1996), when yet another Ghostface appears and begins targeting a group of teenagers who are each somehow linked to the original killings.Scream was released in the United States on January 14, 2022, by Paramount Pictures. The film received generally positive reviews from critics, who praised it for honoring Craven's legacy and offering thoughtful meta-commentary on horror films, with some calling it the best of the Scream sequels.[6] It was also a box-office success, grossing over $138 million against a production budget of $24 million. A sequel, Scream VI, was released in March 2023.This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/4268760/advertisement

Welcome to Act 3! In this special Patreon-exclusive bonus episode, we're talking about the amazing “requel,” Scream (2022) from Paramount Pictures, which was shot in Wilmington, NC and yes that is why these One Tree Hill podcasters are covering it and celebrating 25 years of the Scream franchise! Twenty-five years after a streak of brutal murders shocked the quiet town of Woodsboro, Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox), and Dewey Riley (David Arquette) ended Billy Loomis' (Skeet Ulrich, who returned in this movie! Ahhh!) and Stu Macher's reign as Ghostface. But now a new killer dons the Ghostface mask and stalks both the legacy characters and a new young cast, featuring the talents of Sonia Ammar, Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, Mikey Madison, Dylan Minnette, Jenna Ortega, and Jack Quaid. During our discussion, we go over requel rules (Why not just call it Scream 5? Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are not fooling anyone.), Gale's subtle and nuanced character development, Dewey's death (and why we're both mad about it for different reasons), the unfortunate plot holes (we all know time has no meaning in Tree Hill and it has no meaning in Woodsboro either), why Kyle Gallner deserves more work, our crush on Jack Quaid, the triumphant returns of lesser-known legacy characters Judy Hicks (Marley Shelton) and Martha Meeks (Heather Matarazzo), the tribute to Wes Craven (“For Wes”), the welcome return of “Red Right Hand” by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, and all of the Scream Easter eggs littered throughout. Also, who has a cameo in Scream (2022)? We point out the secret cameos from old friends Drew Barrymore, Jamie Kennedy, Matthew Lillard, Adam Brody, Kevin Williamson, Marco Beltrami, Patrick Lussier, Julie Plec and Wes Craven's widow, Iya. Plus, are Tara and Amber together? The original casting call made it seem that way and we dive into what could have been. And in lieu of a favorite musical moment, you will hear us talk about our favorite death scenes. Plus, we talk about our relationships to horror movies (surprise! We both love horror!) and give shoutouts to The Ring, The Blair Witch Project, Hereditary, Midsommar, The Babadook, It Follows, Jordan Peele films, Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Valentine, and Scream 4 (and its need for justice!). 5️⃣ Now that it's been a full year since the release of Scream 2022, we are finally going to unpack everything in this ginormous supersized episode of the podcast. Hang out with us for the next three hours as we re-evaluate this requel with a new lens, offer our updated franchise rankings, discuss the handling of the legacy characters and the new characters, our take on the writing, Radio Silence's direction, and the film's marketing, and of course, we'll choose which character we think was most deserving to die.● ● ●▶️ Watch the Video Podcast☑️ Vote in the Cherry Picker● ● ●
Ten years had passed since we last saw Sidney Precott, Gale Weathers, and Dewey Riley united at the end of “Scream 4.” For better or worse, they have changed a great deal. Additionally, in the fifth film, they function differently than ever before, taking a break from driving the story and rather supporting a new plot in the franchise. In “Scream,” they take on the roles of the legacy characters in a requel or legasequel. This week, Ryan and Amar venture into the drastic changes in the lives of the beloved “Scream” trio and evaluate the success of the character arcs and the performances by Neve Campbell, David Arquette, and Courteney Cox. For the introduction, Ryan is joined by Doug Evasick. Ryan and Doug give twenty horror films released in 2022 a thumbs up or thumbs down. This Rian Johnson mockery will not stand... ...well, maybe for this episode. But just you wait until the end of the month, dear listeners! Just don't tell Netflix we actually watched a movie in theaters. ANYWAY we are back with our own version of a "requel" as it was just our last trilogy that featured the black sheep of the SCREAM franchise... and here we are with another entry. 2022 was a decent year at the movies. But really we just want to feel the comforts of childhood again. A place where we can feel like the experts. We may not know who this new Wednesday Addams is but man are we happy to see Neve Campbell back in action. Even though they wouldn't pay her for the next one. Alas, progress must wait until 2023. Or 2024. Enjoy our look back at 2022 at the movies! Support what we do with bonus content and early episodes on Patreon including CLERKS 3 which didn't make our cut for a trilogy on triples!
