This week on Forgotten Cinema: Lead Up, the Mikes tackle "Scream" (2022), or as it should be called, "Scream 5".As the first entry in the franchise not directed by Wes Craven, this chapter is in the hands of Radio Silence, and both Mike Butler and Mike Field think they do a strong job carrying the torch. The film delivers solid kills, balances legacy characters with a new generation effectively, and even manages to handle the death of a major returning character with respect and emotional weight.The connection to the original film is well woven into the story, grounding the new cast in the mythology without feeling entirely forced. That said, the Mikes do have a few issues; the Billy Loomis twist is a bit hard to swallow, and some of the logic behind Ghostface's kills does not quite hold up under scrutiny.Even with those criticisms, "Scream 5" stands as a confident and entertaining revival of the franchise, proving that the series can survive beyond its original creator. As the penultimate episode in the Scream Lead Up series, it sets the stage nicely for one final stop before "Scream 7".So join the Mikes as the go through each film in the "Scream" saga leading up to the release of "Scream 7".What are your thoughts on these Radio Silence Screams? One does being one of the greatest directors of all time mean? Either way, it can be safe to say that the impact that Wes Craven had on movie cinema qualifies him as one of the best ever. In 1996, his film, SCREAM, became an incredible hit and many folks feel it is one of the greatest films of all time (more than just a horror film). After Craven's passing, the franchise has continued with SCREAM 5 (2022) and SCREAM 6 (2023). Sisters Sam (Melissa Barrera) and Tara Carpenter (Jenna Ortega) have been targeted by the next group of psychos that have decided to take on the identity of the Ghostface killer. This week we have a look at the 2022 film Scream AKA for convenience sake, Scream 5. This is Episode #406! Scream is a 2022 American slasher film directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, and written by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick. It is the fifth installment in the Scream film series; though billed as a relaunch of the film series, the film is a direct sequel to Scream 4 (2011). The first film in the series to not be directed by Wes Craven, following his death in 2015, the film is dedicated to Craven at the beginning of the closing credits.[5] The plot takes place twenty-five years after the original Woodsboro murders from Scream (1996), when yet another Ghostface appears and begins targeting a group of teenagers who are each somehow linked to the original killings.Scream was released in the United States on January 14, 2022, by Paramount Pictures. The film received generally positive reviews from critics, who praised it for honoring Craven's legacy and offering thoughtful meta-commentary on horror films, with some calling it the best of the Scream sequels.[6] It was also a box-office success, grossing over $138 million against a production budget of $24 million.
