fWotD Episode 3298: Erik Campbell (Final Destination) Welcome to featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia's finest articles. The featured article for Saturday, 16 May 2026, is Erik Campbell (Final Destination).Erik Campbell is a character from Final Destination Bloodlines (2025), the sixth installment in the supernatural horror film franchise Final Destination, directed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein. He was created by Guy Busick, Lori Evans Taylor, and Jon Watts, and was portrayed by Richard Harmon. Erik is introduced as the son of Howard and Brenda Campbell, being the oldest of their three children. In the 1960s, his paternal grandmother Iris had a vision of a restaurant tower collapsing and prevented the disaster, saving herself and hundreds of others. As Erik and his family were not supposed to exist, Death itself targets Iris' bloodlines, killing them in order of lineage. When his younger sister is killed, seemingly out of order, Erik learns he is not a biological descendant of Iris, being the result of his mother's affair with another man. While attempting to help his brother Bobby nullify Death's list, Erik dies when he gets sucked into a malfunctioning magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine by a wheelchair that crushes and impales him.In developing the cast of Bloodlines, Lipovsky stated that he and Stein wished to avoid creating one-dimensional characters, instead wanting to feature ones with layers to them. The reveal about Erik's parentage came from the crew wanting to subvert audience expectations regarding the order of the characters' deaths; one discarded concept involved twins whose birth order was uncertain. Initially, Erik was envisioned as an online streamer who died while livestreaming a virtual reality game. A longtime fan of the franchise, Harmon was cast as Erik eight months after his first audition, with a delay due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike. Harmon helped influence many of his character's scenes and dialogue by either improvising his lines and actions or making suggestions to the production crew. From the beginning, Lipovsky and Stein hoped to feature a death scene involving an MRI machine, but were unsure where to place such a sequence in the film; they also questioned its ethical implications. In the end, they included the concept as it received a positive response from the production team.Following the release of Bloodlines, Erik became a fan favorite. Critics often singled out Harmon's performance as among the best in the film, recognizing him as a "scene stealer" and praising him for adding comic relief. Erik's fake-out death scene at his tattoo parlor and his actual death involving an MRI machine were also commended by critics, with the latter deemed the best death scene in Bloodlines. Erik's death was further analyzed for its accuracy by scientific experts. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 01:27 UTC on Saturday, 16 May 2026.For the full current version of the article, see Erik Campbell (Final Destination) on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm standard Geraint.
Welcome back to Rogues Gallery! This week, we're gearing up for a deadly game night with Ready or Not. What began as a sharp high-concept pitch from writers Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy became one of the most crowd-pleasing horror films of the last decade: a blood-soaked satire about wealth, tradition, and the kind of family that would literally kill to preserve both. We trace the project's origins and how directing duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett balanced brutal horror with pitch-black comedy without letting either undercut the other. Along the way, we dig into Samara Weaving's star-making lead performance, the bizarre and dysfunctional Le Domas family, the surprisingly restrictive filming location that shaped parts of the production, and the practical effects work behind the film's gleeful carnage. We also discuss the movie's original ending, why changing it altered the entire point of the story, and where Ready or Not fits within the larger tradition of horror-comedies. Yup, the wedding bells already rang, the in-laws already exploded, and somehow “Ready Or Not 2: Here I Come” still finds a way to make that universe feel even bigger, bloodier, funnier and a whole lot weirder. The sequel to the 2019 horror-comedy favorite picks up with Samara Weaving's Grace still very much in the blast radius of her last marital disaster, only now the satanic board game has expanded. What was once one deranged family with a pact and a game night from hell becomes something broader here: a hierarchy of elite occult families, strange alliances, legal puppet masters, and a deeper mythology lurking just outside the mansion walls. Directed once again by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the film leans even harder into absurdity, spectacle, and viciously funny chaos without losing Grace's bruised, everywoman appeal. On this episode of The Discourse, Mike DeAngelo is joined by writers Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy to talk about how they cracked the sequel and why the seeds were actually planted years ago. Murphy said they always knew there was more world beyond the first film, even if audiences only caught glimpses of it. “We already knew that there was a larger world out there that we wanted to explore,” he explained. “And so that kernel of an idea was already kind of baked into the cake. And it was just kind of a question of, how to motivate Grace into that larger world.”READ MORE: ‘Heel': Stephen Graham, Andrea Riseborough & Anson Boon On Grief, Redemption, More ‘Adolescence,' and ‘Mobland' Season 2 [The Discourse Podcast]

On season 10 episode 3 of Paid in Puke, we're playing with Matt Betinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett's 2019 horror comedy, “Ready or Not” starring Samara Weaving, Andi McDowell, Adam Brody, and Mark O'Brien. It was written by Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy. Olpin and Gilette also joined Busick for "Abigail", the 2022 Scream reboot, and "Scream VI". “Ready or Not” tells the story of Grace, a plucky woman from a modest background, who learns, on the night of her wedding to the heir of a board game empire, that she must play a life-or-death game of Hide and Seek with her new in-laws. It's Keggers with Kids all this episode, as Amy's child, Dash, joins us to talk about why this is one of his favorite horror films, and how it stacks up against Betinelli-Olpin and Gillett's other films. The "Ready or Not" script is a rare example of tight perfection, symmetry, and depth that also manages to walk a horror comedy tightrope. It belongs to a fun micro-genre: Evil People in a Mansion. We also praise Samara Weaving for the fun vibe she brings to her scream queen role, Adam Brody's recent renaissance, and why we've been on the Brody train since David Wain's underrated comedy, "The Ten".

Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universes. The search for Hal Jordan's counterpart in the DCU series Lanterns is over as Aaron Pierre has been cast as John Stewart. Pierre won out against other frontrunner Stephen James after screen tests with Hal Jordan actor Kyle Chandler. The John Stewart character from comics holds a lot of weight as it was one of DC's first Black superheroes and is a fan favorite. You can catch Pierre in Netflix's Rebel Ridge and M. Night Shyamalan's movie Old. Disney isn't shying away from leaning into the projects that feel like surefire hits right now, and their updated release schedule reflects that. Both the live-action Lilo & Stitch movie and Freakier Friday - reuniting Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis - have 2025 release dates with Stitch coming first in May and the Freaky Friday sequel in August. Excitement follows both films, with Freakier Friday taking a look at a grown-up Anna, played by Lohan, and Lilo & Stitch featuring a blend of live-action and CGI that will feature original Stitch actor, Chris Sanders. Fandango announced that Wicked pre-sales, which went live last week for the November 22 release, are only second this year behind pre-sales of Deadpool & Wolverine. This also puts Wicked at the highest for advance ticket sales this year for a PG-rated movie and the third of all time in that category, standing up against Disney films Frozen II and 2019's The Lion King. Daniel Ezra who previously starred in Netflix's All American has joined the cast of Paramount and Edgar Wright's The Running Man and will star alongside Glen Powell and Katy O'Brien. Henry Cavill has signed on to star in Voltron for Amazon MGM Studios, a live action film based on the 1980s animated TV series that followed a team of space explorers who pilot a giant super robot known as Voltron and was adapted from several Japanese anime TV series from Toei Animation. Hit Netflix rom com series Nobody Wants This starring Adam Brody and Kristen Bell has been renewed for a second season. Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan who executive produced HBO's Girls have come on board as executive producers and showrunners for Season 2. Horror slasher Terrifier 3 opened ahead of expectations this weekend to take the number one spot at the box office, pulling in over $18 million dollars domestically, while Joker 2 had a historic drop off of 81% in its second weekend, only taking in $7 million dollars domestically. Radio Silence Productions is returning for a sequel to 2019 cult horror film Ready or Not. Star of the first film Samara Weaving will return for the sequel and Guy Busick and Ryan Murphy who wrote the original will return to write. AppleTV+ has released the first trailer for Silo season 2 starring Rebecca Ferguson. The series debuts on November 15th. The hunt is on for a host for the upcoming Oscars and sources tell Deadline that the tentative plan is to use an ensemble of rotating hosts and ABC has approached Amy Poehler, Dwayne Johnson, and the duo of Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman about hosting the show. AppleTV+ has renewed Gary Oldman led spy drama series Slow Horses for a 6th season. A fifth season renewal was announced earlier this year. Prime Video has released a teaser trailer for season 3 of Invincible and has set Thursday, February 6, 2025 for the season premiere. James Gunn confirmed on social media Tuesday that Krypto the Superdog will feature in his upcoming "Superman" film. The announcement was made in celebration of Adopt a Shelter Dog Month this October. Sony has set a release date for its upcoming Until Dawn video game adaptation film of April 25th, 2025. Until Dawn is directed by David F. Sandberg and was written by Gary Dauberman.

Next, in The Hive Mind (58:11) Jason and Rosie are joined by Scream V & VI co-writer Guy Busick to discuss writing the iconic horror franchise as a fan, the tricks to writing a great horror film, and more. Then in Nerd Out (1:28:16) a listener pitches Becky Chambers' Monk and Robot series.Note: Imprecise timestamps are an unfortunate side effect of a new ads system.
