We have an incredible story to share with you this week! This is our last testimony for 2024 but don't worry, we have a few more episodes to share with you this December! And we'll be back in January with some incredible stories of God's faithfulness. Shannon Cook and her family began attending Desert Springs this year. Before we get into Shannon's testimony, we do want to let you know that some heavier topics like abuse, addiction and sexual abuse will be discussed. Growing up Shannon's home life appeared to be picture perfect but behind the scenes things were a mess as her parents struggled with alcohol and there was abuse within their home. Because of this environment Shannon began looking for love in all of the wrong places. She met her now husband Arren while working at Krispy Kreme and she became pregnant at the age of 16. This itself is an amazing testimony as Shannon was prepared to abort this baby but an appointment at a pregnancy center changed everything. Shannon then takes us through the next decade of life which was filled with some intense trial by fire. Multiple children, addiction, marriage struggles, job loss, discovery of sexual abuse, homelessness - you name it, the Cooks went through it. BUT GOD. God came through in incredible ways. Shannon describes feeling purified and refined by the fire and though there were some years of incredible darkness she sees God's faithfulness in all of it. Where God has them now shows how He can heal, restore, provide and guide. He does not ever leave His children alone and He is faithful. Be encouraged by Shannon's testimony today! This week co-hosts Sarah Humphrey and Mike Nawrocki talk with author Shannon Cook about her new book, I Made the Earth. Did you know that God not only made the earth … He really enjoys it too!  “I Made the Earth” is an Earth Day book from God's perspective. Each rhyming verse tells the reader something beautiful or unique on this earth God made for us to enjoy―things like waterfalls, forests, and the coral reef. Included are reminders to take care of God's creation. The reader also learns that through creation, he or she can learn about God Himself. The book also includes end matter just for parents including ways little people can make a big impact, and fun facts about Earth Day!

This is our first ever Q&A episode and Felicia answers YOUR questions! I received nearly 750 question suggestions and finally picked a few popular questions to answer... Questions about craft and creativity, getting creatively unstuck, starting and growing an indie yarn dyeing business, and how I feel about the future of fibre arts, to name just a few! I absolutely loved being able to answer your questions and I hope you enjoy this episode!  In this episode, we talk about: 3:30 How do all your different craft practices inform and inspire the others? (link: Emma Welford's Ribbons Cardigan) 6:15 Can you offer three tips for getting unstuck? When you are stuck in a rut or a having a creative block. (link: Episode 44 with Shannon Cook on meditation for creativity) 11:45 Did you study color theory? How do you go about creating colours ... How do you arrive at the choices? Where do you take your inspiration for colours? (link: http://www.xrite.com/hue-test and http://www.color-blindness.com/farnsworth-munsell-100-hue-color-vision-test/) 15:35 Do you EVER do muted colors ? (LOVE the brights — but I am just curious) (link: sweetgeorgiayarns.com/colours/) 16:00 You are strongly focused on color. What about neutrals or monochromatic yarns? Could these have a place in your creative thinking? 18:15 I would love to know more about your own business process: how did you get started and grow your business? How do you keep things fresh? what percentage of your work is delegated and how much do you take on? Do you (still) love what you do?… How did you take your interest and grow it into a business, and have that confidence that you'd be successful? Did you ever imagine the business would be what it has become? 22:00 How hard it was to start your business? Did you ever think about giving up? 24:30 Your work is clearly fulfilling. What is it about yarn, dyeing, customers, etc. that makes your work so satisfying? 25:45 Do you think there is room for more indie yarn dyers? It seems that there are so many already but not sure if it will happen for me but one day maybe. 27:20 Are you hopeful or fearful for the future of the craft? Has the new generation embraced the fibre arts well enough to ensure that it endures? 28:30 What have you learned about yourself since you started doing the podcast? What do you cherish the most about these conversations?     LET'S CONNECT https://sweetgeorgiayarns.com https://www.facebook.com/SweetGeorgiaYarns https://instagram.com/sweetgeorgia

Find, print and hang more photos in our home.   Why? I scrapbooked 2005-2009 of my life and then again for part of 2013. I am so grateful to have documented the stories of that time in my life, especially as my nieces and nephews were born. I want to fill in the gaps and document those stories before I lose them. Kids were still so little then. So many cute photos, memories, milestones. funny things they said. I have boxes of photos & memorabilia my mother thoughtful saved for me. I want to organize it and purge what I don’t want and find a system for making this into something worth saving and sharing. I want to remember and celebrate my life. I want to share stories with my family and pass along wisdom where I can.   What I've done so far:   Identified an approach- Stacy Julian, Library of Memories approach combined with Project Life divided page protectors Sorted through childhood memorabilia based on these categories Assessed finished scrapbooks. Sort through emails and journals. Momento app all to pull social media. Reorganize 2014 photos already printed into LOM approach. Started scrapbooking them! Heard tip to put photos in divided  Pocket Pages first. get that finished. Did that while binge watching with dan and my friend laura. felt productive but didn't take as much brain space as actually scrapbooking. Easier to batch and liked that I could do it from the couch. Working on Project Life App for 2017 and 2016 photos. Appreciate that the app allows me to scrapbook on my phone anywhere.   Resources   Apps: Momento- access your social media feeds as a means for triggering journaling Google Photos Photo Fab {free} Class (explains how to use Google Photos) Becky Higgins Blog Post about Google Photos Pic Tap Go- for editing   Podcasts: The Scrap Gals Modern Photo Solutions Live Inspired with Tracie Claiborne   Websites + Blogs Simple Scrapper Project Life + Library of Memories Approaches Combined Ways to cope with sentimental things     March- my focus will be about automation. If you have any tips for me, please come share in the Ravelry group.   On a Happy Note World of Difference Shawl- has been a huge hit! Thank you for the overwhelmingly positive response. Visiting with friends. Binge watching, Season 3 of the Affair. The Crown. Black Mirror. I had a good appointment with my Physical Therapist. Weight Watchers is going well. I met a new personal goal! I spent time this weekend my niece and nephew. Quote of the Week   Having the best things is no substitute for having the best life. Any and all gift knits will be accepted, there’s no minimum yardage, if it’s a gift it counts. Entries are quarterly, Jan - Mar, Apr - Jun, Jul - Sept, Oct - Dec. You cannot enter something finished in March in the July quarter etc. Year long FO thread is where you will open one post and keep a running tally of ALL the gifts knit in the year. Go back and edit this post as many times as you need to include all gifts. This really should be rule #1 but HAVE FUN! Post pictures of what you’re knitting on instagram with the hashtag #stashtogiftknit2017 so we can see all your projects!
