In a recent episode, Doug asked a question that sparked considerable discussion: should a college degree be mandatory for the NCIDQ exam, or if work experience and apprenticeships be adequate? Responding to insightful listener feedback, Doug invited Jon Otis, a distinguished figure in interior design advocacy and a Professor, to explore the issue further. The feedback varied; some listeners supported alternative licensure paths for their diversity and affordability, while others advocated for the necessity of a bachelor's degree due to the rigor of formal education. This sparked a broader conversation between Doug and Jon about the merits of formal education versus learning through experience.Do you have a hot take? In this episode Lisa and Deborah discuss:How to guide your teen through college and career discernment. The crucial role self-awareness through ongoing reflection and family conversations.Types of real-world experiences that allow teens to explore interests and develop skills. Supporting, not leading, your teen through their journey of building professional connections and independence. Key Takeaways: No matter how many resources your student's school has, work still needs to be done at the family level, especially around self-awareness. “Knowing thyself” is the purpose of education. It is about more than just a final destination; it is rather the accumulation of wisdom, truth, and beauty. Integrate deeper questions into the regular rhythms of life.Invite your teen to have curiosity conversations with those in the fields they are interested in. This will help them develop their imagination and identify potential avenues for internships and other networking opportunities. Encourage your teen to explore opportunities they are interested in. They might like it, they might not, and that's fine! Self-awareness is not a linear discovery process. Teach your teen to see the throughline of what they enjoy and who they are. No matter how many occupations they may have, who they are and how they show up does not change. “Helping students understand that part of this discernment process and knowing who they are is not done in isolation. They need to look to the wise elders around them that can speak truth and can give them some perspective.” – Deborah AllenAbout Deborah Allen: Deborah Allen has been in education as both parent and professional for over 25 years. Her broad experience includes serving as a humanities instructor at both the high school and collegiate level, thesis coach, academic and career adviser, creating college counseling departments for private and public classical schools, and serving as a consultant for the Society for Classical Learning. Marketing remits are expanding faster than most professions but unlike accounting or engineering, it remains splintered and without common professional capabilities, standards and accreditation. Indeed, marketing, agency, media and customer tech professionals across the entire customer and marketing supply chain risk career irrelevance because they're simultaneously losing sight of marketing's fundamentals – like strategy and commercial nous – and the diverse new capabilities they need to join-up marketing and customer functions to drive business growth. Senior marketers at ANZ, Deloitte and Destination New South Wales are trying to bridge that gap. But even the likes of ANZ's Kate Young, who launched a major upskilling program for the bank's 300-plus marketers in 2019, says the pace of change means a refresh is already required and the program – and ANZ's marketers – must operate in a two-speed environment: Core capabilities for today plus anticipating what's coming down the track as personalisation shifts to “anticipation”, plus rapid advances in automation and generative AI. Destination NSW Marking GM Kathryn Illy is upskilling her team away from pure ROI-focused performance marketing to better understand what makes people want to visit NSW in the first place. As well as putting skills programs in place she's hiring from ad agencies – and says the numbers show it's working. Deloitte CMO Rochelle Tognetti is upskilling her 270 marketing staff around commercial acumen and the collapsing walls between client and employer brand, along with organisational capabilities and governance. All three marketing bosses are backing the Australian Marketing Institute's re-fuelled drive to future-proof marketing's skill set across 25 essential competencies. AMI CEO Bronwyn Powell says accreditation, in the same way that accountants and engineers achieve chartered status, gives marketers a far broader appreciation of business fundamentals while mapping a path to the c-suite. Perhaps worryingly for the top end of town, Powell thinks younger marketers are hungrier to upskill than mid and senior-level pros. She's urging the entire market – agency and media bosses included – to identify skills gaps, personal and team-wide, and join the AMI's push to plug them along with a revamped path for professional credentials which peak at an AMI Certified Practicing Marketer and AMI Fellow.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Hey everybody! I hope you're hanging in there during quarantine and staying healthy. Today is part 3 of our ongoing series all about becoming a PCIP. The good news is I'm finally, actually registered for the cert and have started diving into the training! So in today's episode I want to regurgitate some of what I'm learning to whet your appetite (or not) for this particular certification. Specifically, we cover: The overview and objectives for being a PCIP (TLDR: PCIP does NOT replace QSA or ISA, but gives us a good understanding of how to protect payment card data) How and why payment card data is leaked/stolen/breached - and then sold/monetized The definition of some fundamental PCI acronym soup, including PCI DSS, PA-DSS and P2PE

I’m gonna love you like coronavirus, I don’t know what else to say I’m gonna love you like coronavirus, I’m gonna stand 6 feet away Yes our love was meant to be, but it will have to wait until later Cuz I don’t wanna end up hooked up to a ventilator In today's episode I continue sharing my journey about becoming a PCIP. Spoiler alert: I'm still applying to even start training to be one. Here's what we'll cover: The pentesting requirement 11.3 from PCI that kind of boggles my brain, and some advice I got from a PCI guru that helped clear things up for me. This video also helped me better understand requirement 11.3. The super sucky couple of personal quarantine days I’ve had that include: Cocoa that tastes like mint-flavored old lady diarrhea Our fridge and freezer going ka-put Exploding drinks in my fridge A multi-thousand dollar repair on our new house that hasn’t even technically broken ground yet (!)
SafePass.me is the only enterprise solution to protect organizations against credential stuffing and password spraying attacks. Visit safepass.me for more details, and tell them 7 Minute Security sent you to get a 10% discount! Today I'm starting a journey to become a PCI Professional (PCIP), and I'll be periodically updating the status of this journey on the 7MS forums. You don't need to be a QSA to get a PCIP, but you do need "2 years in IT or payments related background to have your application approved." The PCIP certification gives you (and I'm quoting from the PCI Web site): Principles of PCI DSS, PA-DSS, PCI PTS, and PCI P2PE Standards Understanding of PCI DSS requirements and intent Overview of basic payment industry terminology Understanding the transaction flow Implementing a risk-based prioritized approach Appropriate uses of compensating controls Working with third-parties and service providers How and when to use Self-Assessment Questionnaires (SAQs) Recognizing how new technologies affect the PCI (e.g. virtualization, tokenization, mobile, cloud) The test costs + exam for a non-participating organization (like 7MS) is $2,500. You also have to re-up every 3 years for $260 (yay, another thing to have to pay for regularly). In the miscellany department: Do you know someone who would enjoy a live 3-song acoustic concert?
