At just shy of 1 million views since late February, Horizon took the world by storm and as a result got the creative juices flowing for a sequel. Federation Rising was going to be the title for the project and Tommy Kraft was going to once again take Star Trek Fan Productions to a new level with an amazing story and amazing guest stars, while respecting the rules of the beloved franchise. We say that all in the past tense because Tommy received a call from CBS, strongly advising him to halt those plans. Bill Burke, Senior Vice President of Marketing at CBS Consumer Products even went so far as to specifically state that this "request" was a direct result of the legal issues going on with Axanar – that once "professional film production" that now is curiously being touted only as a "fan film" once the heat was turned up. Even with the whirlwind of disappointing events, Tommy was gracious enough to join us and discuss what happened and what this could possibly mean for fan made Star Trek productions. But even with all the bad news, Tommy is already moving forward with an ambitious new project that he is very excited to discuss. And we think you will love it! Additionally, we cannot thank Tommy enough for his professionalism and his demeanor while dealing with a situation such as this. He is a true class act and other productions could learn alot from how to handle situations like this! We say that all in the past tense because Tommy received a call from CBS, strongly advising him to halt those plans. Bill Burke, Senior Vice President of Marketing at CBS Consumer Products even went so far as to specifically state that this "request" was a direct result of the legal issues going on with Axanar – that once "professional film production" that now is curiously being touted only as a "fan film" once the heat was turned up. Even with the whirlwind of disappointing events, Tommy was gracious enough to join us and discuss what happened and what this could possibly mean for fan made Star Trek productions. But even with all the bad news, Tommy is already moving forward with an ambitious new project that he is very excited to discuss. And we think you will love it! Additionally, we cannot thank Tommy enough for his professionalism and his demeanor while dealing with a situation such as this. He is a true class act and other productions could learn alot from how to handle situations like this! Throughout the decades, amateur productions have been predominantly set on 23rd Century Constitution-class vessels. It is amazing that Star Trek: Horizon has been viewed on YouTube over 500,000 times since its debut less than four weeks ago!  What is even more amazing is that Captain Harrison Hawke himself, Paul Lang and Horizon mastermind, Tommy Kraft both join us on this week's podcast for another great Horizon discussion. It is truly amazing to Bill and Dan that this film has such amazing "Hollywood" quality knowing that 95% of the film was "green-screened." Paul discusses what is was like to have the Captain's Chair be the ONLY physical piece of the bridge, what it was like to do walking scenes--literally using a treadmill--as well as many other interesting filming tidbits for this online phenomenon. Later in the show, when Tommy joins us, we get an idea of why he chose the Enterprise time frame for this epic story, and what it was like trying to pull together all the cast to get filming during a cold Michigan winter. Hearing from the man himself on his vision and idea for this story is something you do not want to miss.

Zeus 3D Printer is Replicator and Transporter Rolled Into One We already have PADDs, communicators, and Velcro (remember it actually came from Vulcan!), and now two more Star Trek technologies may be in our near future—the replicator and transporter. At least they are if AIO Robotics succeeds in its vision. The new Zeus 3D printer combines both of these technologies—admittedly on a less magical level—by allowing users to scan an object, 3D print a replica, and fax that object to others. The printer is available now for pre-order at the price of $2,499 and is expected to ship this summer.   The Trek Collective Reviews the USS Reliant The eleventh issue of the Official Starships Collection from Eagle Moss is out and The Trek Collective has reviewed the tiny ship. Which ship would that be? Well, it's one beautiful enough to make you scream KHAAAANNN!!! The USS Reliant, Khan's inverted Enterprise from Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, is the subject of Issue #11 and The Trek Collective seems captivated by it's radiantly blue nacelles.   Star Trek: Horizon nears end of Kickstarter The independent, feature-length film set during the time of Enterprise, Star Trek: Horizon, will be reaching the end of its Kickstarter at noon on Monday, May 19. If you haven't yet contributed, there's still time to check out the amazing work that Tommy Kraft and the rest of the Horizon cast and crew are doing. The story takes place during The Romulan War and centers on the NX-04 Discovery. It's an example of extreme dedication and creative talent, and is being done on what we'll generously call a shoestring budget—though you would never know from the professional level of the visuals and story. Romulans on Enterprise. First introduced in the Original Series episode "Balance of Terror," the Romulans became a lengendary villain within Star Trek lore. The conflict between humans and Romulans is also lengendary despite never having been played out on screen. When Enterprise decided to bring Romulans into the show in the second-season episode "Minefield," they faced a huge challenge in keeping with canon. TOS established that humans had never seen Romulans prior to the late 23rd century. How do you tell a compelling story and stay true to that? Even more difficult, how do you establish a Romulan plot directly involving our characters in Season Four without them ever coming face-to-face? In this episode of Warp Five we're joined by Tommy Kraft, writer and executive producer of the Enterprise-era film Star Trek: Horizon, to discuss Romulans in Star Trek and Romulans on Enterprise, from their first appearance in "Minefield" to the mysterious coda of "Kir'Shara." The cancellation of Enterprise not only left behind a number of loose threads from the series, but also key moments in Star Trek history that a prequel should have explored. Almost ten years after Enterprise left television, the feature-length film Star Trek: Horizon aims to close one of those gaps by telling the story of the famous Earth-Romulan War. Made by fans in love with Star Trek and set during the Enterprise time period, Horizon centers on The Coalition of Planets, a young alliance of worlds led by Earth, that is at war with the Romulan Empire.
