Reconciling Enterprise Inconsistencies. Why did the Borg appear on Enterprise? How could the Romulans have cloaking technology in the 22nd century? Did the NX-01 seem more advanced than the 1701? These are just a few of the things that many Star Trek fans cite as continuity problems surrounding the missions of Captain Archer and his crew. Could there be simple explanations that make it all fit together? In this episode of Warp Five, hosts Floyd Dorsey and Jeffrey Harlan are joined by Star Trek Horizon creator Tommy Kraft to explore in-universe explanations that might just make Star Trek's prequel series a bit more palatable. Tommy Kraft and Actors Look Back. Since it's public launch in February 2016, Star Trek Horizon has become a bigger hit than anyone—especially creator Tommy Kraft—ever expected. The fan film that serves as a follow-up to Enterprise delivers the Romulan War storyline that fans were hoping for from the show's fifth season. Centered on the crew of the USS Discovery NX-04, Horizon is an example of how to make the most of limited resources to create a product that can holds its own against studio productions. In this episode of Continuing Mission, host Dennis Castello is joined by Tommy as well as two of the stars of Horizon—Paul Lang, who plays Captain Harrison Hawke, and Ryan Webber, who plays Commander Francis Brookes—for an in-depth discussion about the decisions made in the writing, casting, directing, and look of the film. We also hear first-hand their thoughts on how fans have reacted to their creation. Note: On Saturday, 4/23/16, this week's episode was made available at 11:00AM EDT. Shortly after the release, we pulled the episode due to additional information we received that not ALL fan film productions had received calls from CBS. We felt that as a result of this information we did not want the post to be misleading, and so a rewrite of the podcast post information was needed. There is no change to the actual interview with Tommy Kraft. The problem isn't with what Tommy said, it's in what we wrote and we didn't consider possible negative effects. We sincerely apologize to all of the other productions. To reiterate: As of now, all of the other fan film productions have NOT received calls from CBS strongly suggesting they shut down and we didn't want to cause a problem for any production out there with what we said. Last week we setup an interview with today’s guest to discuss what would have been the launch of the crowdfunding campaign for the sequel to the immensely popular online film, "Star Trek - Horizon". At just shy of 1 million views since late February, Horizon took the world by storm and as a result got the creative juices flowing for a sequel. Federation Rising was going to be the title for the project and Tommy Kraft was going to once again take Star Trek Fan Productions to a new level with an amazing story and amazing guest stars, while respecting the rules of the beloved franchise. We say that all in the past tense because Tommy received a call from CBS, strongly advising him to halt those plans. Bill Burke, Senior Vice President of Marketing at CBS Consumer Products even went so far as to specifically state that this "request" was a direct result of the legal issues going on with Axanar – that once "professional film production" that now is curiously being touted only as a "fan film" once the heat was turned up. Even with the whirlwind of disappointing events, Tommy was gracious enough to join us and discuss what happened and what this could possibly mean for fan made Star Trek productions. But even with all the bad news, Tommy is already moving forward with an ambitious new project that he is very excited to discuss. And we think you will love it! Additionally, we cannot thank Tommy enough for his professionalism and his demeanor while dealing with a situation such as this. He is a true class act and other productions could learn alot from how to handle situations like this! After the conversation with Tommy, Dan and Bill will discuss the fallout and their reactions – and its safe to say that Dan is mad as hell and he isn’t going to take it anymore! #ThanksAxanar

Earl Grey: A Star Trek The Next Generation Podcast

TNG Fan Film. Free carpet samples. Lounge chairs. Lots of computer monitors. Some nice, polished wood.  For some reason, no one has gathered these items for a Next Generation-based fan film production. Throughout the decades, amateur productions have been predominantly set on 23rd Century Constitution-class vessels. In more recent years, productions like "Star Trek Renegades" has reached past the shows of the 24th Century and "Star Trek: Horizon" has looked "back" into the 22nd Century. But there are no current fan web series based during the seven-year television run of TNG.  Phillip, Daniel, and Darren put on their "fan production" hats and explore why there is this "gap" of fan productions for Next Gen. They discuss whether TNG has a unique fandom, whether there is a lack of enthusiasm for Enterprise-D based web series, and whether something like "Red Shirt Diaries" can be done for the "lower decks" of the NCC-1701-D. Join Earl Grey as they delve into what role they would play in a TNG fan film and how "ENSiGNS" can only be made possible through supporters like you. It is amazing that Star Trek: Horizon has been viewed on YouTube over 500,000 times since its debut less than four weeks ago!  What is even more amazing is that Captain Harrison Hawke himself, Paul Lang and Horizon mastermind, Tommy Kraft both join us on this week's podcast for another great Horizon discussion. It is truly amazing to Bill and Dan that this film has such amazing "Hollywood" quality knowing that 95% of the film was "green-screened." Paul discusses what is was like to have the Captain's Chair be the ONLY physical piece of the bridge, what it was like to do walking scenes--literally using a treadmill--as well as many other interesting filming tidbits for this online phenomenon. Later in the show, when Tommy joins us, we get an idea of why he chose the Enterprise time frame for this epic story, and what it was like trying to pull together all the cast to get filming during a cold Michigan winter. Hearing from the man himself on his vision and idea for this story is something you do not want to miss.

Horizon. Fans often cite Travis Mayweather as the most underdeveloped character on Enterprise, but the episode “Horizon” sets out to change that perception with a story focusing exclusively on the Ensign, his family, and his past. It's a good look into the character, though surprisingly comes near the end of Season Two.  In this episode of The Ready Room we're joined by Tommy Kraft and Will Nguyen to discuss Travis's trip back home, the cargo culture, and the puzzling discrepancy between the background developed for the character and what the writers actually did with over the course of the series. We also reveal in the excitement that is Movie Night aboard the NX-01 and T'Pol's newfound love of Frankenstein. In our news segment we discuss the latest on Tommy's film Star Trek: Horizon and debate the results of the StarTrek.com poll in which fans picked the alien race with the best starships.   Hosts Christopher Jones and Tommy Kraft   Guest Will Nguyen   Editor and Producer Christopher Jones   Associate Producer Renee Roberts   Production Manager Richard Marquez   Content Coordinator Will Nguyen   News Star Trek: Horizon Production Update (00:02:25) Poll: The alien race with the best starships is… (00:11:59)   Feature: Horizon Intro and Synopsis (00:22:12) A Misplaced Story? Zeus 3D Printer is Replicator and Transporter Rolled Into One We already have PADDs, communicators, and Velcro (remember it actually came from Vulcan!), and now two more Star Trek technologies may be in our near future—the replicator and transporter. At least they are if AIO Robotics succeeds in its vision. The new Zeus 3D printer combines both of these technologies—admittedly on a less magical level—by allowing users to scan an object, 3D print a replica, and fax that object to others. The printer is available now for pre-order at the price of $2,499 and is expected to ship this summer.   The Trek Collective Reviews the USS Reliant The eleventh issue of the Official Starships Collection from Eagle Moss is out and The Trek Collective has reviewed the tiny ship. Which ship would that be? Well, it's one beautiful enough to make you scream KHAAAANNN!!! The USS Reliant, Khan's inverted Enterprise from Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, is the subject of Issue #11 and The Trek Collective seems captivated by it's radiantly blue nacelles.   Star Trek: Horizon nears end of Kickstarter The independent, feature-length film set during the time of Enterprise, Star Trek: Horizon, will be reaching the end of its Kickstarter at noon on Monday, May 19. If you haven't yet contributed, there's still time to check out the amazing work that Tommy Kraft and the rest of the Horizon cast and crew are doing. The story takes place during The Romulan War and centers on the NX-04 Discovery. It's an example of extreme dedication and creative talent, and is being done on what we'll generously call a shoestring budget—though you would never know from the professional level of the visuals and story. Visit the Horizon website and Kickstarter to find out more through the images, updates, and some fantastic behind-the-scenes production videos.

Romulans on Enterprise. First introduced in the Original Series episode "Balance of Terror," the Romulans became a lengendary villain within Star Trek lore. The conflict between humans and Romulans is also lengendary despite never having been played out on screen. When Enterprise decided to bring Romulans into the show in the second-season episode "Minefield," they faced a huge challenge in keeping with canon. TOS established that humans had never seen Romulans prior to the late 23rd century. How do you tell a compelling story and stay true to that? Even more difficult, how do you establish a Romulan plot directly involving our characters in Season Four without them ever coming face-to-face? In this episode of Warp Five we're joined by Tommy Kraft, writer and executive producer of the Enterprise-era film Star Trek: Horizon, to discuss Romulans in Star Trek and Romulans on Enterprise, from their first appearance in "Minefield" to the mysterious coda of "Kir'Shara." And, of course, we discuss the deeper plot involving Romulans in "Babel One," "United," and "The Aenar."

Tommy Kraft and Marc Bowers talk Star Trek: Horizon. We know a great deal about the 23rd and 24th centuries, but our exploration of the 22nd was unfortunately cut short. The cancellation of Enterprise not only left behind a number of loose threads from the series, but also key moments in Star Trek history that a prequel should have explored. Almost ten years after Enterprise left television, the feature-length film Star Trek: Horizon aims to close one of those gaps by telling the story of the famous Earth-Romulan War. Made by fans in love with Star Trek and set during the Enterprise time period, Horizon centers on The Coalition of Planets, a young alliance of worlds led by Earth, that is at war with the Romulan Empire. Desperate for a chance to gain the upper hand, the Coalition forms an alliance with T’mar, a Romulan deserter, in the hopes that she can provide valuable intelligence on her former masters. In the episode of Continuing Mission we're joined by writer, director, and executive producer Tommy Kraft, and actor Marc Bowers, who plays Commander Jackson Gates, first officer of the NX-04 Discovery, to learn more about this story and how the film is being put together.   Send us your feedback! The Sound of Her Voice. War changes people. And that's no different whether you're in the 21st century or the 24th. Just before DS9 kicked into high gear for its final season, our crew took a quiet moment to reflect in “The Sound of Her Voice,” the penultimate episode of Season Six. It's a unique take on a bottle show that reveals a great deal about the station's crew. In this episode of The Ready Room we're joined by Matthew Rushing, Michael Fisher, and Von Glitshka to discuss the hours spent by the Defiant crew talking to Captain Lisa Cusack, what the conversations tell us about how life changes and the struggle to move on, and the twist of time that allows our heroes to step back—at least for a moment— to a place where the Dominion War had yet to shatter the peace. In our news segment we look at the pros and cons of Roberto Orci's bid to direct Star Trek 2016, head into fluidic space or Star Trek Online's ninth season, wrap up Enterprise's Blu-ray release, and find out about the independent film Star Trek: Horizon, which is set in the Enterprise time period and tells the story of the Romulan War.
