NextEnergy Solar Fund Ltd (LSE:NESF) investment director and UK legal counsel Stephen Rosser talked with Proactive's Stephen Gunnion about the company's steady third-quarter performance and growth prospects underpinned by the UK's Clean Power 2030 plan. Rosser highlighted the successful completion of the third phase of NESF's capital recycling program, including the sale of Staughton at a 21.5% premium, contributing to a total of £72.5 million capital recycled to date. Despite less-than-optimal generating conditions due to adverse weather and grid outages, Rosser said NESF expects to maintain a cash cover of around 1.1 times for its full-year dividend target of 8.43p. He discussed ongoing strategies to address the share price discount, including advancing the fourth phase of the capital recycling program and continuing share buybacks. So far, NESF has repurchased over 12.5 million shares for approximately £10 million, aiming for a total buyback of £20 million. Rosser expressed optimism about the UK's solar and energy storage landscape, noting opportunities from the Clean Power 2030 initiative, which targets 50GW of installed solar capacity by 2030. With a strong ESG track record, including over 2,700 tonnes of CO2 avoided since inception, NESF is focused on delivering shareholder value and capitalising on growth opportunities. Join Luke Stewart, Cathy Wilkerson, and Alice Lynd for a conversation on Staughton Lynd's struggle against the war in Vietnam. Staughton Lynd was one of the principal intellectuals and activists making the radical argument that the U.S. intervention in Vietnam was illegal under domestic and international law. Lynd was uncompromising in his courageous stance that the U.S. should immediately withdraw from Vietnam, and that soldiers and draftees should refuse to participate in the war based on their individual conscience and the Nuremberg Principles of 1950. Lynd's writings, speeches, and interviews against the war are collected in the recently released My Country is the World. For this launch event that volume's editor, Luke Stewart, will be joined by Cathy Wilkerson and Alice Lynd for a discussion of Staughton and Alice's activism against the war and its lessons for today's anti-imperialist struggles. Get My Country is the World from Haymarket: https://www.haymarketbooks.org/books/1956-my-country-is-the-world Speakers: Luke Stewart is a historian focusing on the antiwar movements during the Vietnam War and the global war on terror. He has co-edited Let Them Stay: U.S. War Resisters in Canada, 2004-2016. He currently lives in Nantes, France. Cathy Wilkerson joined Students for a Democratic Society in 1963, supporting an active civil rights movement in Chester, PA. She continued with SDS after college, becoming editor of New Left Notes and then an organizer with the SDS Washington DC Region. After the assassination of Fred Hampton in 1969 she joined Weatherman, remaining a fugitive until 1980. After getting out of prison, she worked with the Attica civil suit, and then as an educator in NYC public schools for 20 years. See also Flying Close to the Sun, My Life as a Weatherman (2007). Staughton and Alice Lynd (respondant) were married for more than 71 years, having met during Harvard Summer School in the summer of 1950. While Staughton spoke, wrote, and in other ways opposed the Vietnam War, Alice expressed her concerns through collecting and publishing We Won't Go: Personal Accounts of War Objectors (Beacon Press, 1968), and becoming a draft counselor. We Won't Go was the Lynds' first venture into doing oral history or, as Staughton put it, Doing History from the Bottom Up! (Haymarket, 2014). The Lynds partnered in editing Rank and File: Personal Histories by Working-Class Organizers (Haymarket, expanded edition, 2011). One of the eminent intellectuals/activists of our time, Staughton Lynd, died yesterday, and Scott and Bob paid tribute to him as the introduction to a reprise of his 2020 interview. Staughton was the first interview on Green & Red, during its second episode, and he discussed various issues regarding civil rights and especially labor organizing. (Errata: It was Herbert Apthecker, not David Dellinger, who went to Vietnam with Staughton and Tom Hayden. My bad, BB) Staughton Lynd was one of the most important American Activists/Scholars from the mid-20th Century onward. As a historian, he was one of the first prominent scholars associated with the "New Left" and he did pathbreaking work on the colonial war of liberation against the British Empire, situating it not just as a fight over Home Rule, but also "who should rule at home," i.e. what type of class relations would exist in the new country. Staughton was on the faculty at Spelman University where he and colleague Howard Zinn became active in the Civil Rights Movement (activity that cost Zinn his job there). Staughton became head of the Mississippi Summer Freedom Education Project, organized by SNCC. He then moved on to the faculty at Yale University, but that was short-lived. He traveled to northern Vietnam in 1965 as part of an antiwar contingent and the Liberals at Yale fired him for his political activity. After that he, and his wife, another acclaimed activist, Alice became lawyers specializing in Labor Law and Prison Reform. The Lynds moved to Niles, Ohio (also Bob Buzzanco's hometown) where Staughton became one of the leaders of a 1977 movement to save Youngstown, Ohio steel mills from closing down. He has been active in labor matters since and he and Alice also have defended death row prisoners and worked with military veterans on the issue of "moral injury." For more on Staughton, see, among others, his books Class Conflict, Slavery, and the United States Constitution: Ten Essays; Moral Injury & Nonviolent Resistance (with Alice Lynd); and The Fight Against Shutdowns: Youngstown's Steel Mill Closings. Police use of force expert Seth Stoughton testified that even Potter's use of a taser on Daunte Wright would have been unreasonable. Wright's father also took the stand. --Tiffany Bui reports:Former police officer Derek Chauvin pleaded guilty to violating George Floyd's constitutional rights in federal court on Wednesday. In a separate case, he also pleaded guilty to willfully depriving a 14-year-old boy of his right to be free from unreasonable force by a police officer. In 2017, Chauvin allegedly held him by the throat and struck him in the head several times. Meanwhile, in the trial of Kim Potter, police use of force expert Seth Stoughton testified that even Potter's use of a taser would have been unreasonable.“It's really dangerous to incapacitate, the way a taser can incapicitate, someone who is in a position to get a vehicle moving,” Stoughton said. “If the taser was ineffective … if it just caused pain … then you're providing an incentive for someone to flee.”Defense lawyer Paul Engh objected to Stoughton's testimony that officers did not need to arrest Wright away. He became increasingly emotional and banged on the table as he spoke to Judge Regina Chu, adding that he would possibly move for a mistrial. The defense has asked for a mistrial once before. Defense lawyer Earl Gray asked a series of questions meant to point out that Wright was not compliant with officers. “Mr. Wright – he's the one who started it, correct? Nothing would have happened, except he broke away once he learned there was a warrant. Is that a fair statement?” Gray asked.“Sure,” Staughton said.At the end of the day, jurors heard from Daunte's father Arbuey Wright. He talked about working with Daunte as his manager at Foot Locker, and how the two enjoyed a close relationship. The prosecution showed a photo of Daunte holding his infant son, Daunte Jr.“To see him as a father, I was so happy for him because he was so happy about Junior. It was my chance to be a grandfather. He loved his son,” Wright said. “I love Daunte. He was loved.”The prosecution is expected to rest on Thursday, at which point the defense will present its witnesses.

When we fight fight for our brothers and sisters inside to be heard, censorship will become impossible. Getting to work with Alice Lynd is a privilege- her work is top notch. She inspired me to go to law school. Now having Staughton in the mix at dinner, pushing and prodding and just expanding my thinking that was refreshing. I learned a whole heck of a lot over the first few days of August. Ray Vasvari, a low sweeping bow. That was an inspired and right on point argument before the Sixth Circuit court of appeal in Hanrahan v. Mohr. Did I say this already: When we fight fight for our brothers and sisters inside to be heard, censorship will become impossible. More soon in a full report... from the front lines... seeking the first amendment rights of journalists and the Lucasvile defendants: Siddique Abdullah Hasan, Jason Robb, Keith Bomani Lamar, George Skates, and Greg Curry and journalists d.jones, Christoper Hedges, James Ridgeway, and myself. With special guests Staughton and Kyle, topics in this episode: With Playstation Now's requirement for always on gaming, how is this acceptable when Xbox One was vilified for requiring it, and how are franchises like CoD berated for being the same while Mario Kart doesn't face the same issue? Some franchises are timeless, like Zelda and MegaMan, but are there any out now that we see lasting 10+ years from now? Guardians of the Galaxy was hyped by Marvel as the best Marvel movie to date. Does it live up to that hype?
Ryan hosts the tenth episode of the podcast, co-hosted by Chris, Josh, Nate, and Staughton. This Christmas-y episode presents the top 10 things we at FAPCast are excited about in the coming year, along with a few dishonorable mentions from the 2013.
Staughton hosts the eighth episode of the podcast, co-hosted by Chris, Josh, and Ryan. Topics in this episode include: with the new generation of consoles hitting gamers, how important are graphics in video games really; should our future missions to Mars be round trip exploration missions or one-way colonization outings; is waiting in line for a release, movie tickets, Black Friday, or any other big event really worth the hassle; and has the stream of military tech advancements to consumers dwindled and possible even reversed, so that military now relies on consumer tech more heavily?
Nate hosts the seventh episode of the podcast, co-hosted by Staughton, Chris, and Josh. Topics this go round include: are we so inundated with games and movies and other media that they've all become throw away experiences; what games have we lost interest in, but slogged through to the end anyway; has consumer rage now become what all the cool kids are doing; and with the promise of a return to its original trilogy roots, will a darker, grittier Star Wars Episode 7 revitalize the franchise?
Ryan hosts the sixth episode of the podcast, co-hosted by Nate, Staughton, and Chris. On the table for discussion: are movie release windows broken in the digital distribution age? Violence in media is at an all time high, yet previously dangerous sports are becoming sterile. Has trolling gone too far? Cloud / service based games...are we likely to see it as a new standard or just a fad?
Josh hosts the fifth podcast episode, joined by Ryan, Nate, and Staughton. They discuss backwards compatibility in modern gaming, both console and PC; how video game value per dollar compares to other forms of entertainment and the associated costs; achievements, trophies, and "achievement hunting" and how these impact game play; and how 3D printing advancements are pushing us closer to a build-your-own world.
Alice and Staughton Lynd were interviewed on September 30, 2013 in Niles, Ohio by Emily Wicks as a part of our Oral History Project. Alice and Staughton are prominent activists and have been involved in numerous causes, including the civil rights movement, the anti-war movement, workers’ rights, and prisoners’ rights. The post Oral History » Staughton and Alice Lynd appeared first on ACLU of Ohio.
Staughton hosts the third podcast episode, joined by Chris, Josh, and Ryan. They explore Kickstart and crowd funding, Hollywood's obsession with reboots, what next-gen phones need to do to truly innovate, and the non-necessity that is the 2DS, as well as Vita TV.
Nate hosts the second podcast episode, joined by Chris, Ryan, and Staughton. They explore just how bad Ben Affleck as Batman will be, the existence of sophomore slumps, whether Sony's snark marketing is helping them, and opinions on linear and open worlds in gaming.
Ryan hosts the first podcast episode, joined by Chris, Nate, and Staughton. They discuss the upcoming release of the Oculus Rift, the potential downfall of Nintendo's flagship console, and debate whether the serious tone in comic book movies is good or bad
