Brought together by a broken washing machine, Lizzie Jack and the Beanstalks are a four-piece indie rock band from Wollongong. Fronted by Lizzie Jack, the tracks produced by the band present a hybrid of folk-esk storytelling and garage rock, taking influence from Eliza and the Delusionals, Tired Lion, Waax, and Maddy Jane. The Beanstalks are anthemic, authentic and here to leave a lasting impression. Forming in 2019, the four-piece are quite new to the scene yet are not without accomplishment, steadily becoming one of the staple local supports in Wollongong sharing the stage with the Gooch Palms, countless local acts, and scoring a slot at the 2019 Yours and Owls Afterparty. Lizzie joined Homebrewed to discuss exactly how that washing machine brought the band together, as well as sharing the story on how they got their fantastic band name. Thanks for listening! Yeah, you read that right, Sydney pop punks Heroes For Hire are getting back together again for a string of Official Farewell Shows in December and you better believe we're fuckin excited for them. Joining us on the show EXCLUSIVELY this week is frontman Brad Smith who is talking all about the reunion including how the idea came about, what happened back in 2013 when he was publically ousted from the band which consequently lead to their demise and if this is a one-time only opportunity or if there'll be more tours in future. For the band's longterm fans, this is an opportunity for you to catch the guys one last time up the East Coast of Australia and relive the memories you had watching them explode back in the day. The guys played stacks of music festivals and toured with some pretty big names in the business, we ever get a sneak peek of the setlist too, so strap yourself in for nostalgia overload. Podcast host Browny also discusses the NSW Police and Government's ridiculous rules and regulations which have consequently resulted in under 18-year-old patrons no longer being allowed to attend the first Good Things Festival in Sydney and asks for music fans and listeners to join a petition to try and convince the State Government and NSW Police to rethink their strategies and work cooperatively with festival organisers to so they can make the festival an All Ages event again. There's also plenty of bangin' tunes to get you through your day including New Music from Tired Lion, Fever 333 and Papa Roach, throwbacks from blink-182, Sum 41, Zebrahead, Between You and Me, Paramore, State Champs, Tonight Alive, Storm The Sky and heaps more... #WoSUATW #BradSmith #HeroesForHire #PopPunk #AustralianBands #ExclusiveInterview #blink182 #Sum41 #BetweenYouAndMe #BYAM #StateChamps #Paramore #TonightAlive #Trophy Eyes #Zebrahead #PapaRoach #StormTheSky #Fever333 #TheFever333 #TiredLion #MusicPodcast #GoodThingsFest #RedJumpsuitApparatus #WallOfSoundAU

It's been guns blazing for the band who won the People's Choice award at the Gold Coast Music Awards a couple of years back, proving their popularity is on the rise, especially with songs they've written about hard-hitting topics like domestic violence and addiction as well as the themes on the lighter side of the spectrum, like SEX. They're fast becoming hot property in Australia's heavy music scene so now is the time to find out what they're all about and jump on the bandwagon. There's also stacks of New Music this week from Architects, Dregg, Ice Nine Kills and Colour Machine, throwbacks from Violent Soho, WAAX, Tired Lion, Dune Rats and we're even giving that song by The Chats a spin too. #WoSUATW #BeingJaneLane #AustralianBands #Punk #PunkRock #VbHardYards #VB #DeathproofPR #TiredLion #ViolentSoho #TheChats #WAAX #ColourMachine #Flangipanis #Dregg #IceNineKills #TheSilverScream #Architects #RoyalBeggars #MusicPodcast #WallOfSoundAU

The fabulous @eleytherius. You may know her as Dr Johnston, as a long term LIFTL contributor, as a Mega-FOAM performer, as a some-time feline choreographer or as a Fabulous Female of FOAM®. She sings, she dances and she writes books. She is a creative powerhouse. She is an educator extraordinaire. But we’re not going to talk about that. We’re going to talk about Dustfall; a new novel by someone who you can relate to, somewhat works in critical care, someone that has not much more time to spare than you do. Michelle has written a book. It took years. Of course she can write, I am just learning. Check her blog here; http://michellejohnston.com.au/category/dustfall/ It would have to be a labour of love? It was. Love of words. Love of reading. Love of the classics. As Michelle puts it; “I like words and they like me.” Where does a story like this start? It starts, like so many things do, near Port Hedland. In the Pilbara. In Western Australia. In a part of Australia that most Australians will never see. It’s out there, right out there. It starts in Wittenoom. Covered in blue asbestos, dead but still dangerous. Mining happens in dangerous places. Physically and metaphysically. For Dr Johnston, there was not so much writing as there was re-writing, submitting, waiting and getting rejected. Bad feedback. Good feedback. Even when people liked it they told her to re-write it. And here there is a parallel with medicine. Feedback. Feedback. And more feedback. Feedback is sometimes hard but it is something that can make you better. How many medical people do you know that have written a novel, a work of fiction? Not many. Now you know one more. Dustfall by Michelle Johnston. She didn’t want to push it so I will. Find the book here; https://uwap.uwa.edu.au/products/dustfall Go and listen to her speak about it, there will be book launches, promotional tours, lectures and a brand new pen. See Michelle speak; https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/words-with-wine-michelle-johnston-dustfall-tickets-42452631965 This was recorded at SMACC in Berlin. We had just heard the fantastic talk by Annet Alenyo ( @aalenyo) about #UBUNTU which was a special moment. Have a look for that talk when it is available and please, please, please consider supporting a delegate through @Supadel and maybe help a talented young doctor or nurse attend a fantastic event like #dasSMACC was and like #BadEMfest2018. Read more at www.BadEM.co.za Then read a novel. Big thanks to Tired Lion, Perth Post-Punk Feminist Combo getting us moving with their break out hit I dont think you like me, chosen to introduce Dr Johnston because of the lyrics, the provenance and presence of Sophie Hopes. If your not Australian you’ve probably never heard her before. Now you have. Go and get some Tired Lion on iTunes. Big thanks also to Lloyd Cole for a little clip of the mid-80’s classic Brand New Friend of his second album, chosen for the lyric “am I asking oh for so much, i’m not asking to be understood” but also because the tune jumped into my mind and refused to leave for three days after Michelle used the phrase “Brand New Pen”. You surely have some Lloyd? If not, iTunes again.

Walken: Bursting out of Brisbane’s growing punk scene in 2014, Walken have wasted no time releasing music and playing shows. So far they have released three singles, two eps, toured the east coast, and supported some of Australia’s biggest names such as The Bennies, Tired Lion, and Brisbane’s own Screamfeeder. Sounding somewhere between 90’s Blink 182, and the heaviness of early Offspring albums, Walken produce hard hitting alternative rock with textures of the sunshine they were written in. Recorded live at the Greenslopes Bowls Club as part of Sonic Masala Fest on the 13th of August 2016. Recorded by Reuben Aptroot & mixed by Branko Cosic. SEIMS: Created by Sydney based multi-instrumentalist Simeon Bartholomew, SEIMS was originally a one-man studio project when he released the debut self titled album in 2012. The album was written, performed, recorded, and produced by himself, and after its release he received multiple requests for live performances of his bedroom symphonies. After recruiting members to fill the spots of trumpet/synth, guitar, and drums, while Simeon himself welded the bass and additional synths, SEIMS has been mesmerising audiences up and down the east coast. Their latest album II was released on the 7th of August 2015 and was created with the live experience in mind and delivers wall to wall noise, constant time signature changes, and a listening experience you don’t want to stop listening to. Recorded live at The Brightside, Brisbane on the 4th of March 2016. Recorded & mixed by Reuben Aptroot. Airing details: Originally via Zed Digital, 7-8pm, Sunday 28st August 2016. Show production and engineering: Branko Cosic.

G'day from WA! Perth upstarts Tired Lion have been at it for only a couple of years, but in that time they've been able to grace stages nationally and pack out rooms with their sharp and shredding take on alt-rock. From touring with Spiderbait to opening Splendour, it's been a pretty huge run for the band between their first visit to Newtown Social Club last March, opening for Luca Brasi, and here at their headlining show with The Hard Aches. Ethan and Nick from the band (with extra input from Sophie and Matt) got the banter going backstage, telling stories from their younger days right through to what's to come for these feisty felines. Tired Lion's new single "Not My Friends" is out now. Watch the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNKzInyG9n4 Support for All My Friends Are in Bar Bands comes from Spit the Dummy Records.
