We had the pleasure of interviewing WAAX over Zoom video! The beating heart of the Australian post-punk scene, WAAX, have released their highly anticipated second studio album, At Least I'm Free, via Dew Process. The band have also shared the music video for the k.flay co-written, high octane LP standout “No Doz,” which follows on the heels of the biting, incendiary singles already released from the album: the QMA Award winning “Most Hated Girl,” the Linda Perry co-written “Dangerous” and “Read Receipts.” Speaking on the Phoebe Faye-directed video for “No Doz,” the band's singer Maz DeVita had this to say: “‘No Doz' is about control. More specifically it's about losing it. In the video I have no control in the shopping trolley. I am at the mercy of the band who is pushing me around. The video reflects the newer, fresher vibe that we were going for when writing ‘No Doz.' It's filled with energy, reckless abandon and bursts of color.”On At Least I'm Free, WAAX teamed up with the production team behind their debut breakout album Big Grief - Bernard Fanning (Powderfinger) and Grammy winner Nick DiDia (Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam, Rage Against The Machine). The result is an honest and indignant album laden with raw vulnerability and contrasted by the high octane energy WAAX is renowned for.We want to hear from you! Ahead of their mammoth 22-date national album tour for October - December, I chatted to Maz from WAAX on their latest album ‘Atleast I'm Free', with the tour kicking off this coming week on October 6. “You might consider At Least I'm Free something like a second debut album for WAAX — a creative and emotional rebirth that's resulted in some of the band's finest, punchiest songs ever” and that's exactly what this ep is all about. Songwriting, hardships, mental health, industry struggles, and coming out the other side. Enjoy.

Brought together by a broken washing machine, Lizzie Jack and the Beanstalks are a four-piece indie rock band from Wollongong. Fronted by Lizzie Jack, the tracks produced by the band present a hybrid of folk-esk storytelling and garage rock, taking influence from Eliza and the Delusionals, Tired Lion, Waax, and Maddy Jane. The Beanstalks are anthemic, authentic and here to leave a lasting impression. Forming in 2019, the four-piece are quite new to the scene yet are not without accomplishment, steadily becoming one of the staple local supports in Wollongong sharing the stage with the Gooch Palms, countless local acts, and scoring a slot at the 2019 Yours and Owls Afterparty. Lizzie joined Homebrewed to discuss exactly how that washing machine brought the band together, as well as sharing the story on how they got their fantastic band name. Thanks for listening! C O L T S are an eclectic amalgamation of musicians with backgrounds spanning an array of genres. The group, formed in Brisbane, Australia features members of WAAX, YELLOWCATREDCAT, Pleasure Symbols, Finance, Average Art Club, Bcharre, FeelsClub and Rattus Rattus.C O L T S have a signature brand of alternative dream pop in which they blend a unique use of choral vocals with winding, interlocking guitars and confessional songwriting – often delving deep into issues of inclusivity and mental health within the industry. Drawing influence from bands such a DIIV, Beach Fossils, Slowdive and Deafcult, fans of grunge pop and shoegaze catharsis will not be left disappointed. With two singles of their 12 part ‘Calendar Collective’ series having been released earlier in the year – January and August – C O L T S have been exploring the depths of their sound; contrasting clever, interlocking and airy guitar lines with raw, powerful and intense vocals. Both singles received extensive media attention with additions to local playlists such as 4zzz’s Best New Local Music and international streaming playlists such as Apple Music’s Best of the Week and Alternative A list to name a few.Since their debut performance late last year, C O L T S have been captivating crowds with their energetic and immersive live sets that combine wet, guitar-heavy walls of sound with a driving rhythm section, delivered in a clean cut and easy to digest pop format. Having only a handful of shows under their belt as this project, C O L T S have still managed to sell out or pack every venue they have performed at thus far – sharing the bill with local Australian favourites such as Major Leagues, WHARVES and WAAX as well as international acts such as Mermaidens.Find Colts online:https://www.facebook.com/C-O-L-T-S-288529835201294/https://www.instagram.com/coltsmusic/https://open.spotify.com/track/1rOxUozywPXZMAdRAYNl7nhttps://youtu.be/jDWqFZ9WPGQSubscribe to us on ITUNES, STITCHER, SPOTIFY, or your podcatcher of choice.Find us on FACEBOOK or TWITTERFind out more about Yonder online at yonderfestival.comTheme music by Your Man Alex Smith find more of his work on Facebook, Bandcamp, Spotify & iTunes

Mental Health Struggles hit the best of us, including stacks of our favourite musicians, which is why we turn to their music as an avenue to help us feel better momentarily before we look at other professional options and one bloke who has been fighting his own battles and sharing those struggles with us through his music is Frank Carter of Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes, who joins the podcast this week to chat about his personal life and to pass on the important reassurance that there's always hope at the end of it all. Dark clouds pass and this is something we all need to take into account when going through rough patches. Podcast host Browny also addresses Frank's inspirational "Girls Only" moshpit movement which he will be doing at every single show he performs at following the praise he received from fans when it made global headlines at Reading Festival back in August. He's also got a very important message for those who criticise the movement and you know what, we couldn't back him any more than what we already do. The Good Things Festival made its debut up Australia's East Coast between December 7-9, 2018 and of course, we had to work out way into the compound to get you up close to some of the bands from the lineup. Backstage in Melbourne, Victoria, podcast host Browny was joined by fellow Wall of Sound writer/interviewers Ricky Aarons and Todd Gingell who all sat down with some of the most enjoyable musicians we've ever had the chance to interview for a face to face including the likes of Bullet For My Valentine, Northlane, Void of Vision, Make Them Suffer, Boston Manor, WAAX, Dashboard Confessional, The Wonder Years, Stone Sour and of course, the legendary Noodles from The Offspring. Stop Everything: Karnivool are back together again and they're not only working on new music but they're hitting the road to play UNIFY Gathering 2019 and we can hadly contain our excitement. Joining us on this very special 'Countdown to UNIFY' podcast is frontman Ian Kenny who not only opens up about what's taking so long with the band's new material, but also the feelings of neglect he deals with when thinking about the fans who are eagerly waiting to hear it. It's no secret the man is one of Australia's hardest working musicians fronting both The Vool and Birds of Tokyo, so its great to get an insight to how his mind works and how he juggles time between the two, as well as having a social life. But the surprises don't end there, he discusses the idea of a Sound Awake Anniversary Tour in 2019 to celebrate the album's 10th Birthday, similar to what they did with their debut album Themata and from all accounts, there could very much be something in the works already... Podcast host Browny also chats with the very first Wall of Sound UNIFY Intern winner Adam Rice about taking out the prize and a couple of the bands from the lineup which changed and influenced his appreciation for heavy music. And talking about the lineup, there are plenty of tracks to get you pumped up for the annual festival including throwbacks from Every Time I Die, Taking Back Sunday, WAAX and Falcifer, newer tunes from The Plot In You, Turnstile, Underoath, Hellions, Pagan and more... #WoSUATW #IanKenny #Karnivool #BirdsOfTokyo #AustralianBands #UNIFYGathering #UNIFY2019 #ThePlotInYou #Underoath #DreamState #Hellions #TakingBackSunday #OceanSleeper #Saviour #WoSUAINYIntern #Thornhill #Karnivool #WAAX #Pagan #Falcifer #Turnstile #EveryTimeIDie #ETID #MusicPodcast #Podcast #HeavyMetal #Metalcore #Punk #BlackMetal #Deathcore #UNFD #WallOfSoundAU

Oh hey, we're back and bringing some punk rock goodness for you to devour with the Gold Coast's Being Jane Lane on co-hosting duties this week. The ladies have had a huge year scoring opening slots for Unwritten Law, Clowns, Frenzal Rhomb and featuring on the Big Gay Day and Dead of Winter festival lineups as well as earning a spot on the VB Hard Yards Tour which is where podcast host Browny sat down with frontwoman Teigan Le Plastrier and shred-master Phoebe Chim. It's been guns blazing for the band who won the People's Choice award at the Gold Coast Music Awards a couple of years back, proving their popularity is on the rise, especially with songs they've written about hard-hitting topics like domestic violence and addiction as well as the themes on the lighter side of the spectrum, like SEX. They're fast becoming hot property in Australia's heavy music scene so now is the time to find out what they're all about and jump on the bandwagon. There's also stacks of New Music this week from Architects, Dregg, Ice Nine Kills and Colour Machine, throwbacks from Violent Soho, WAAX, Tired Lion, Dune Rats and we're even giving that song by The Chats a spin too. #WoSUATW #BeingJaneLane #AustralianBands #Punk #PunkRock #VbHardYards #VB #DeathproofPR #TiredLion #ViolentSoho #TheChats #WAAX #ColourMachine #Flangipanis #Dregg #IceNineKills #TheSilverScream #Architects #RoyalBeggars #MusicPodcast #WallOfSoundAU

When you've been in the industry as long as **Story of the Year** have been making music you tend to pick up on a few things, most importantly, you can't just rely on selling your music to make a living. Evidence of this was made when bassist **Adam 'The Skull' Russell** departed the band back in 2014 because it was nearly impossible to play in the band (touring and recording) as well as raising a family at the same time. **SOTY** frontman **Dan** **Marsala** goes into detail about the struggles the band have faced over the years as he co-hosts this week's episode of **_Wall of Sound: Up Against The Wall_** ahead of their return to Australia next week in support of their new album **_Wolves_**. The new album only made possible with the help of fans pledging money so the band could enter the studio and make the album they've wanted to for years, an idea Dan (and many fans) were sceptical about at first, but in the end, it ended up being one of the best things they've done that not only benefitted the members, but the keen and eager fans who wanted nothing more than to hear new music from the band for the first time in 7 years. He also talks to podcast host **Browny** about the possibility of bringing his punk/comedy side project **The Fuck Off And Dies** to Australia and if his days of backflipping on stage are coming to an end anytime soon. There's also plenty of New Music to get through from **Parkway Drive, Drown This City, WAAX, Eat Your Heart Out, Dream State, State Champs, Cancer Bats** and **Scars on Broadway** + throwbacks from **Bring Me The Horizon, Stick To Your Guns, Introvert, Beartooth** and heaps more #WoSUATW #StoryOfTheYear #DanMarsala #PostHardcore #MelodicHardcore #TheFuckOffAndDies #Wolves #EpitaphRecords #ParkwayDrive #Reverence #BringMeTheHorizon #BMTH #DrownThisCity #StickToYourGuns #DreamState #UNFD #AustralianBands #Introvert #Punk #PopPunk #Grunge #VoidOfVision #TheAmityAffliction #TAA #WAAX #VesperGreen #StateChamps #CancerBats #ScarsOnBroadway #Beartooth #Podcast #MusicPodcast #iTunesPodcast #SpotifyPodcasts #ApplePodcasts #WallOfSoundAU
Things went from 0 to 100 in 2017 for Brisbane band WAAX. They've become festival favourites, sold out shows in their own right and rocked some massive venues alongside Dune Rats - all off the back of their killer EP, . We went on a blind date of sorts with three-fifths of the band - Chris, Maz and Tom - to learn a little more about where the band got their initial start and their surefire ascent over the last year. Among other things, we also get into north coast hardcore, the logistics of being in nine bands at once and the time Maz got her butt pierced - and no, not like THAT.Wild and Weak Wild and Weak is out now. It can be streamed, downloaded and purchased at http://waax.bandcamp.com WAAX are currently on their "We're Totally Fucked" east-coast tour. Big Sound made it's way to Brisbane again for the 2017 edition (and 16th year) and goddamn what an event it was. For those unaware, it's Australia's own version of SXSW where labels, bands, media and those in the know of the music industry come together for a week of partying, networking, checking out the latest crop of upcoming bands and getting all amongst the music industry. We were lucky to get along and check out the heavier side of the action and sit down with the BEST bands featured who we believe will be the next BIG names in Australian heavy/alternative music including the likes of WAAX, Belle Haven, Endless Heights, Drown This City, Deadlights, Scalphunter, PAGAN, Introvert, The Beautiful Monument and Polaris. These above mentioned acts pulled some of the biggest crowds and were some of the most hyped up bands of the entire week and it is our absolute pleasure to showcase their music to you and get you up close and personal. #WoSUATW #BigSound17 #BigSound #WallOfSoundAU #Polaris #Introvert #TheBeautifulMonument #Pagan #Deadlights #BelleHaven #EndlessHeights #WAAX #Scalphunter #DrownThisCity #

Jess Ribeiro: Jess Ribeiro’s career started as a three piece, featuring her long term collaborator Rob Law in the group Jess Ribeiro and the Bone Collectors in the very under represented city of Darwin. Their debut album My Little River won best country album at the 2013 AIR independent label awards. After an amicable creative split with Rob Law, Jess began working on her first solo record with legendary Australian musician, composer, songwriter, arranger Mick Harvey. Her album ‘Kill It Yourself’ was released in august 2015. Recorded live at PBS FM Studios in Melbourne on the 3rd of February 2016. Recorded & Mixed by Paul Maybury & Alicia Saye WAAX: Starting in 2013, WAAX have been pushing everyone out of their way with their raw, punk infused brand of rock. They have rapidly become an act that’s known for their high energy live shows that is partly due to the fear installed by their utterly terrifying and frenzied frontwoman Marie DeVita. In 2015 they released their debut EP Holy Sick and followed it up with an east coast tour that had everyone talking. Recorded live at The Elephant in Brisbane on the 25th of January, 2016. Recorded & Mixed by Branko Cosic Caitlin Park: Caitlin Park writes and performs folktronica, taking folk and electro-acoustics to new heights with her abstract composition, sampling and film nostalgia. Releasing her debut album in 2011, MILK ANNUAL is a sprawling, intricate and heart-warming foray into the soundscapes of old films, audio books, spoken word, and minimalistic musical arrangement. For much of 2012, Caitlin travelled to New York and London, and collected sounds which would appear on her critically lauded 2nd album, 2013’s The Sleeper, which was shortlisted for the Australian Music Prize. Recorded at The Standard in Sydney on the 12th of February, 2014. Recorded by Harvey O'Sullivan & Hugh Fasher, Mixed by Harvey O'Sullivan.
