In episode #131 of The XS Noize Podcast, Mark Millar meets Dan Croll to discuss his latest album, Fools. Returning to his familiar haunt Montrose Recording in Richmond, VA, where he also recorded his 2020 LP Grand Plan, Dan Croll has now stepped into the role of co-producer this time around alongside his regular recording partner, Spacebomb's Matthew E. White. Fools finds Dan Croll at a crossroads, documenting recent events with warmth and wit to help him decide which direction to take. Five years after leaving his beloved Liverpool for sun-soaked L.A., a move made on a whim, which transformed his sound, Fools poses a fundamental question - is it finally time to come home? In this interview, Dan talks about writing and recording Fools, meeting Sir Paul McCartney, his time in La, whether he is a Blue or a Red, and much more. We had the pleasure of interviewing Brooke Annibale over Zoom video.Indie singer/songwriter Brooke Annibale released new album Better By Now through Nettwerk Music Group. A fearless new collection of songs, Brooke has both emboldened her sound on Better By Now as well as entered a new phase of life after making significant strides in her mental-health journey and saying “I do” to her wife. “I wrote this song in early January 2021,” stated Brooke. “We had literally just put the christmas tree out on the curb, and I felt this terrible sentimental feeling for it. This was also the same week as the Capitol attack. We had pushed through 2020, looking at 2021 as some kind of savior, but once it arrived nothing really changed. There was still the same intensely hostile political discourse and the pandemic continued raging on. It felt like things were getting worse somehow, when I hoped for it to be better by now. Reflecting on that time, it taught me that expecting a perfect external outcome will not lead to feeling better. I've got to do the internal work to have any kind of peace with the roller coaster of life.” Produced by Christian “Leggy” Langdon (Joseph, Amos Lee) and Matthew E White (Natalie Prass, Dan Croll), Better By Now features 10 blossoming indie-pop tracks that Brooke describes as a “spectrum of emotions.” In her trademark layered approach, the Pittsburgh-born, Rhode Island-based artist reflects on love, anxiety, depression, and how two seemingly opposing forces can exist at once. “The album is basically half about falling in love and half about mental health.” Earlier this summer, Brooke teased a couple songs from her new album, including the “immediately catchy” (FLOOD) lead single “What If You” and the “soaring, ethereal pop song” (Brooklyn Vegan) “5 AM” accompanied by the Genéa Gaudet-directed video. In celebration of Pride Month, Brooke also shared an inspiring op-ed via Atwood Magazine on representation, equality, authentic connection, and her journey to self-acceptance. Brooke's expressive and beautifully thoughtful songwriting creates a dreamy and enticing sonic landscape. We want to hear from you! So much electric piano...
After years of living in England, singer-guitarist Dan Croll somewhat recently hopped across the pond and resettled in the states. And without presuming too much, it seems like he picked up some of our nation’s more charming characteristics in the process, chiefly yacht rock. Dan Croll‘s intertwined that idiosyncratic soft ’70s sound with his own mellow […]

Dan Croll is a songwriter, now based in Los Angeles. His new live record, "Grand Plan Live", is out April 1st. We talk patience in music, having a creative space, cycling, his third place, spontaneity, documenting experiences, creators vs consumers, food, the dark side of LA, homelessness, sculpting melody and performing songs solo. Singer-songwriter Dan Croll talks about his staggeringly good third album Grand Plan which covers his first year living as an artist in LA. Dan also remembers the time he had a one-on-one masterclass with Paul McCartney while studying at LIPA and takes a moment to reflect on the tragic loss of the band Her's, which he captures beautifully in his song 'Together'.

If you enjoy this podcast, consider buying me a coffee: https://adamstoner.com/support Producing Activity Quest has been my main focus this month, sending Fun Kids presenters to newly re-opened locations across the UK in an effort to make a programme that encourages families to also get out-and-about safely this summer. I've been recording my own experiences for the podcast. You can hear me in the first episode, where I visited GoApe in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire. Listen to the audio version of this newsletter to hear the feature and some other bits-and-bobs in this newsletter. I had the pleasure of speaking to Sir Tim Smit, founder of the Eden Project, for Activity Quest. He spoke about getting active and ways in which people of all ages can improve the world. That's in the most recent episode, which you can listen to wherever you get your podcasts… On podcasts, Santa Daily and The Week Junior Show didn't pick anything up at the British Podcast Awards at the start of the month, but we did get some very funny mentions from Chris Moyles and I'm still delighted that we were punching with hitters including the Guardian, Monocle, and BBC Radio 4. Toward the end of the month, I began listening back to some bits-and-pieces from my personal audio journal. I've kept an audio journal since the start of 2015, just blabbering into my iPhone once-a-day-or-so. I've only really listened back to bits this past week as I've begun archiving over 1,000 entries. Keeping this journal has been the best thing I've ever done. I've got voices of friends past and present, relationships old and new, and sounds from places across the world, plus some important lessons: May 2015: “Just spoke to a CNN dude about Bitcoin for a radio doc. He said to pile $400 into it [scoffs] yeah, right, alright mate” Hindsight is a wonderful thing. That $400 would be just shy of £20,000 today. Elsewhere… I've been reading: Memoirs and Misinformation, Jim Carey's autobiography. In an interview about the book, he said the cover came from an accidental screenshot of a FaceTime call with his assistant after they'd both been told they had minutes to live. Mentors: How to Help and Be Helped by Russell Brand. Do listen to it (read by Brand himself), rather than read it. It's quicker and much more entertaining. I've been watching: Friday/Saturday evening Bad Movie Marathons with friends on Discord continue. We watched Shrek: The Musical last. This one's not a recommendation, just an FYI. I've been listening to: I've made an Apple Music playlist of what I've been listening to in Spring/Summer 2020. I'll be adding to it constantly until the end of this month at which point I'll make an Autumn/Winter one. Tap the link to open it in-app or in browser, so you can copy the tunes to your own playlist. Picks include selections from Hayley Williams' solo endeavour Petals for Armor and Dan Croll's new EPs, plus Broadcast, Rubblebucket, Gorillaz, Femi Kuti, Bloc Party, and Thom Yorke. I've been enjoying: Call of Duty: Warzone, which came out in March but is something I've only just stumbled upon in the past few months. Something tells me this was a savvy marketing ploy from the folks at Activision: release something in the midst of everyone being stuck at home to get a feel for the gameplay ahead of a wider game release later this year. When I saw one my favourite limited edition items was back in stock on the Monocle store earlier this month, I knew I had to get it. I snapped up a spare Monocle x Laperruque cardholder – one of my favourite possessions, mainly because of how humble and understated it looks, but also because of how beautifully made it is. Rapanui sell clothes in partnership with charities like WarChild and the Marine Conservation Society and donate a percentage of the profits to them, something I've written about before. I got a nice Vivienne Westwood tee just after I sent the last email update. WarChild themselves have created a clever way to raise some cash (and have raised £80,000 as of me writing this) by auctioning and raffling off some incredible prizes, from backstage access to gigs when they're back-to-normal to signed guitars, video-chats with stars, and limited-edition prints. Alright, that's all for this month. Until next time. Your friend, Adam Stoner
Y en la hora extra sonaron discos de 1984 firmados por The Style Council, Sade, Everything but The Girl, Blancmange, Prince, Wham, Bananarama, Wang Chung, Depeche Mode, Bronski Beat, Cocteau Twins, Lloyd Cole & The Commotions y Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds Escuchar audio

Hello everyone I’m back at it this week with my new Liverpudlian friend Dan Croll. Prior to interviewing Dan I was in poor shape. Days of drinking, smoking, and brutal jet lag in London had brought my fragile American body to a breaking point… but then Dan arrived. We met backstage at Citadel festival in East London. I was on the brink of death, and Dan was pissed his set hadn’t lived up to his very high expectations. But after sitting in his air conditioned trailer for a few minutes we woke up and had one of the best conversations I’ve ever had. I found Dan at a crossroads in his musical career. Although his first album was successful his label deemed it not successful enough and dropped him from the roster. This sent the former Rugby standout into a funk that’s only now receding. Forced to confront his mental health, insecurities, and financial obligations, Dan wrote a record about becoming an adult that helped him push through a difficult period. He’s also a funny dude and hates cider. Either way I think you’ll enjoy. Love, -Danny

Dr Guy Meadows, founder of The Sleep School, is a man on a mission. He wants you to sleep better. Not just if you're one of the 30% of Brits who will, at some point, experience insomnia - but also if you're one of the remaining 70%, who will, inevitably, spend some nights struggling to get some shut-eye, staring at the ceiling and wishing you were somewhere else. In this interview with Olly Mann, Guy reveals his tips for changing your mind-set when your brain is racing around and keeping you awake. He advises how to effectively use your smartphone and other light-emitting devices in the bedroom; how to nap effectively; and how to reprogram your master clock to adjust to levels of sleep actually available to you in your busy life. Elsewhere in this episode, Ollie Peart tells the strange story of CJ de Mooi, considers the future of the pay-per-minute cafe, and predicts that the demise of Vine may herald a new wave of social network failures. Meanwhile, in The Foxhole, resident love-guru Alix Fox considers how a listener who gets nauseous near cigarette-smoke can continue satisfying their partner - who has a smoking fetish... The Foxhole is sponsored by our lovely friends at MyCondom.com, who are offering Mann-Fans a staggering 15% OFF if you use the code FOXHOLE at Checkout. We end the episode with a cracking new track from Dan Croll. It's called Swim and it's out now on Communion Records. Remember, if you enjoy the show, you can help keep us going - our ambition is to create a weekly, year-round show - by buying us a beer. If all our listeners committed to buying us just one beer a month, we could do this as our full-time jobs! Imagine!
