Critically acclaimed British composer, musician and mercury prize-winning Benjamin Clementine joins Headliner from the European leg of his tour, which culminates in London at the iconic venue, the Troxy, on April 10th. He reveals what fans can expect to hear at his only London tour show date, why his new album, Sir Introvert and the Featherweights, will be his last, and why the Troxy might well be fans' last opportunity to see him play a headline show.
Episode 178: Happy Birthday to Us: The Cure – “Songs of a Lost World” (2024) and State of the Podcast It's been a while since our last episode was published, and part of this episode will explain why. But we wanted to get something released in time for our eighth birthday! It's hard for us to believe, but our first episode was released way back on November 4, 2016. And although this episode is numbered 178, it's actually the 201st episode we've released. In this short discussion, we talk about what went on with us in September and October, and we discuss our plans for future episodes. (We even ask for a little help in that regard.) But we spend the most time talking about the brand-new and long-awaited album from The Cure, Songs of a Lost World! The album has only been out for a few days, so we don't have too many listens in yet. But we discuss our thoughts so far, Brian shares several reviews, and we also discuss the concert at London's Troxy that was livestreamed and is now available on YouTube to view. We're very glad (if not a little surprised) to have been doing this for eight years, and rest assured, we're not going anywhere anytime soon! #ScrubHopTalk Ep. 184 - The boys talk about how Cotton has been getting in his feelings because his co-hosts aren't being nice enough to him, to which J reminds him that he's actually not nice to anybody. We get into round 2 of "Phat or Wack?!" which prompts additional edits by our post-production department and we ask the audience to go flood Troxy's IG with all the flowers and accolades. Then during our video segment, J issues a challenge to which Cotton believes he won, but we find him to be incorrect in his assessment. Enjoy! Link in bio. Decided to do something new - because that's what 2022 is all about for me! Getting outside of my comfort zone, in many ways this year (which you will hear more details about in this episode), and decided to do an audio diary for this solo episode. The question is: are we trying to create a legacy for ourselves, other people, or a combination of both? Is building a legacy selfish? Today's Lockdown Listen is a fairly recent "Community Keyboards" extract from March last year when we sent our microphones down to the Troxy in the Limehouse district of London for a special concert featuring American supremo Walt Strony. It was a bit of a gamble this one! I had been unable to pre-arrange a meeting with the artist, was completely unfamiliar with the venue or organ (apart from recordings in its previous home at the Troc E&C). I had arrived way too early (Sunday trains from Manchester to Euston, then tube and DLR uncertainty) so decided to grab a bit to eat at the "local" McDonalds. It's surprising how close these things look on an iPhone map screen! I walked and walked...and walked for about a couple of miles, little realising that I was passing through some very dubious areas, where earlier that week there had been shootings and stabbings, got to McD's and realised that there was about 40 mins to curtain up! Needless to say, I opted for the take out burger and fries! Luckily a bus stop was right outside just as a bus was approaching. I jumped on, hastily devoured the food and alighted outside the Troxy. As I entered the beautiful Art Deco foyer, a familiar "Who's Who" of organists were assembled. I walked into the auditorium, having stopped for a word or two of "hello's" and just happened to turn around to (literally) bump into Walt, dressed in raincoat and carrying a music bag. We both said "excuse me" at the same time. I decided to "grab the bull by the horns", quickly introduced myself and was staggered when he graciously invited me backstage to record the interview before the start of the concert. This is usually a definite "no-no", particularly with about 20 mins to showtime but the deal was that we would stand up/sit down whilst Walt got dressed into concert gear! A very memorable day for many different reasons. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/communitykeyboards/message
