[School of Movies 2025] We return to the format of the first film, trapped in a specific, focused time period, lovingly recreated for modern audiences. The big obstacles to be overcome are both based on the ticking clock point-of-no-return, and are unexpectedly and deeply personal for our protagonist. This one is Emmet's movie. While Marty still has to learn a harsh lesson about whether other people think he's chicken or not, he is on a rescue mission and this third film puts Doc Brown front and centre. This is because being saved from temporal exile and murder-by-Tannen externally pales in comparison to the urgency in which Emmett must save himself internally, philosophically, and in key regard to his until-today strained relationship with the rest of the human race beyond Marty. Christopher Lloyd brings it, in this sweetly tragic, broken-and-mended love story through time, opposite the luminous Mary Steenburgen as doomed schoolmistress Clara Clayton in the Hill Valley of 1885. This is a bittersweet goodbye that punctuates this madcap, majestic trilogy with a firm and definite full-stop, ending on the highest of notes that defies all modern conventions of the permanent strip-mining of exhausted IPs. Guest: Jesse Ferguson @TheDapperDM from the Recorded Tomorrow Podcast Those early Digital Gonzo shows can be found on the School of Movies Archive podcast feed. They are rough as hell, amateur hour on my part and each barely breaks the sixty minute mark. The best bits of all of them are featured at the end of each of these three new shows. Many thanks to my vintage guests, James Batchelor and Nikki Taylor.

Missy Tannen is the co-founder and Chief Product Officer of Boll & Branch, the luxury bedding brand that made organic, ethically made sheets a household staple.Missy's path to entrepreneurship began far from business. After eight years as a third-grade teacher, she stepped away to raise her three daughters, never imagining she would one day build one of the most successful bedding brands in the country. What started as a simple search for better sheets led Missy and her husband, Scott, to uncover an industry lacking transparency. Determined to do better, they learned everything from cotton to supply chains from scratch and launched Boll & Branch in 2014 with a mission to create beautiful, responsibly made bedding at an honest price. What began at their kitchen table has since grown into a $200 million brand, sold at Nordstrom and Bloomingdale's, with stores expanding nationwide. In this week's episode, Missy shares her transformation from teacher to entrepreneur, the pivotal moments that shaped Boll & Branch's early years, and how one unexpected newspaper story changed everything. We get into the scrappy stuff—wiring their savings to a factory they had never visited, making tech packs in PowerPoint, washing fabric samples in her laundry room, and missing a holiday launch after a production disaster. Missy reflects on building their supply chain from the ground up, facing zero-sales days before the brand took off overnight, and learning to balance growth, motherhood, and self-doubt while staying true to her purpose. This conversation is your reminder that you do not need experience or a roadmap to build something extraordinary, only grit, heart, and the courage to keep going.*Note from Yasmin: After five amazing years of weekly episodes, I'm shifting Behind Her Empire to an every-other-week schedule. This new rhythm gives me a bit more space to focus on building my own empire and to bring you even deeper, more intentional episodes. Ever wondered where the line between inspiration and appropriation lies in performance art? Captain Frodo welcomes comedian-magician Nick Diffatte for a candid exploration of originality in magic that will resonate with creators across all disciplines.Nick takes us behind the scenes of Tannen's Magic Camp—an intensive gathering where 120 young magicians (ages 10-20) immerse themselves in the craft under the guidance of working professionals. You'll feel like you're wandering the Hogwarts-like halls of Bryn Bawr College as Nick describes the transformation these young performers undergo when they realize they're not alone in their passion. The teaching methodology is fascinating: forcing students to perform on day one breaks down barriers, creating a safe space where they can be vulnerable enough to truly learn. The conversation shifts into territory rarely discussed publicly—the ethical questions performers face when developing material. Through the lens of what Nick calls "the Elvis analogy," they explore how performers can honor magical traditions while still finding their authentic voice. When does a borrowed trick become truly yours? How much must you change something before claiming ownership? The answers aren't simple, but they're essential for anyone who creates. Most compelling is their shared vulnerability about their own creative processes. Captain Frodo confesses his insecurity about performing routines developed by others, while Nick reveals his struggles publishing instructional material that walks the line between teaching technique and sharing complete performance pieces. Their honesty strips away the mystery often surrounding creative work, revealing the human questions that haunt even the most accomplished performers.Whether you're a magic enthusiast or simply someone who appreciates the creative process, this episode offers rare insights into how art evolves through generations while remaining true to its roots.

Det är det längsta avsnittet i DnD´s historia, men kanske också det mest spontana och sköna avsnittet grabbarna någonsin producerat.(00:00) - Försnack(57:08) - Star Wars nyheter(1:21:15) - Kommer världen gå under pg svamp?/Vetenskapen bakom the last of us(1:25:55) - Dune 3 börjar filma i sommar(1:34:00) - Dexter is back(1:35:32) - Daredevil klar för säsong 2(1:49:06) - TRAILERS(2:17:45) - The Departed, 2006(2:56:30) - The Departed, betyg(3:00:00) - Daniels Siffror(3:09:15) - Dicken i ditt öra ft Daniel(3:34:30) - Sett i veckan(3:54:20) - Hejdå

Missy Tannen is the co-founder and chief product officer of the luxury bedding and linens company Boll & Branch. She began her career as a third-grade teacher before transitioning to being a stay-at-home mom to her three children. In 2014, she and her husband (and co-founder), Scott, were hoping to upgrade their bedding but struggled to find quality products at a reasonable price point. Missy began researching the world of bedding and noticed a dearth of quality items available, as well as unethical business practices. So, she and Scott set out to build something better, resulting in Boll & Branch, which they launched in 2014. The company has its own, transparent supply chain and uses 100% organic, fair-trade cotton from a nonprofit farming cooperative in India. The brand carries soft, durable, classic linens and has expanded into new categories like bath towels, pillow inserts, and more. Over the last decade, it's seen huge growth, topping $200 million in revenue last year. Boll & Branch originally started as a direct-to-consumer company but now has several retail stores and plans to open seven new ones in 2025. It is also carried in major retailers like Bloomingdale's and Nordstrom.Use code SECONDLIFE20 for 20% off your order! No minimum. Expires 4/30. Tannen wants to know how to create a solid marketing strategy. Barbara is struggling to get people to subscribe. Ralph doubts he is even reaching anyone. Jeffry wants to know how to get started. The struggle Vanessa is facing is confidence without sounding arrogant. Michael's biggest struggle is finding people to help him. THE MARKETING STRUGGLE My biggest struggle is building a solid marketing strategy? How do I take my show and chop it up for a week's worth of social posts? When do I post them to create consistency? -Tannen There are a variety of AI tools that can help you create chunks of content. Repurposing your content on social media does two things for you. First, it helps you connect with your current listeners keeping them coming back. Next, sharing on social in the right way can help you reach new listeners. This includes TikTok and reels. Most social media only reaches your followers. These two platforms put your content in front of new people who might be interested. To grow your show, you need to find new listeners who don't know you. I recommend you record your podcast on video to begin. Use the video for YouTube to get discovered. You can also repurpose parts of the video for social media content. Then, use the audio from the video as the podcast. Use this for social content as well. Create captioned social media videos, quote cards, audiograms, and social posts. AI can help you create a lot of this. However if you don't have time, you can always pay someone to do it for you. How much is your time worth? Two tools I really like. The fist is CastMagic. You can find my affiliate link at www.podcasttalentcoach.com/castmagic. The other tool I love is Opus.pro. It creates captioned social media videos for your podcast. Find my affiliate link at www.podcasttalentcoach.com/opus. Let me help you. Visit www.podcasttalentcoach.com/editing. You can get a week's worth of social content for every episode. GETTING SUBSCRIBERS My biggest struggle is getting subscriptions. How do I get people to subscribe to my podcast? -Barbara Start with the why. When we try to get people to take action, such as subscribing to your podcast, we often rely too much on logic. People make decisions emotionally. Then, they justify those decisions with logic. When you spend too much time on the steps in your process, the features in your program or the content on your podcast, people don't take action. Nobody cares about your details … yet. Spend more time on the why. Stir emotion. Make your audience care. Then you can get into the details. AM I REACHING ANYONE My biggest podcast struggle right now is actually more of a struggle of faith. I've been doing the show daily for over a year and I sometimes doubt whether it's actually reaching anyone. Since I do a Christian based show, I know that God is always faithful and I simply need to trust in his timing and do the work. It's just hard some days when I look at the analytics. -Ralph Share that on your podcast. Be real. Touch people emotionally. Spittin' Chicklets just shared a piece on their show. It is a show about hockey. Whit is former NHL player Ryan Whitney. Biz is former NHL player and NHL hockey analyst on TNT Paul Bissonette. When they talk about being “in the room”, they are talking about being in the locker room. This audio comes from episode 545. It is an example of remembering why they do it. So Biz was, sitting in the Delta Lounge, I believe, at the airport, and a guy came over and dropped off this letter. I'm gonna read it to you quick because Biz sent it over to the guys. He said, “I listened to you guys when my life was falling apart. Just having the pot on in the background made me feel like I was back in the room. At sometimes, I was as bad as it gets with mental health, family, booze, etcetera. Since then, I've quit drinking two plus years now, and me and my family, wife and two little girls have made it out the other side, and we're doing great. You guys will never know how much comfort and support I got from just having the pod on and bringing me back to a good spot. You and Whit and all the boys saved my life. Sorry to bother you on your day off. Thank you, Nick.” And Biz, like, made it clear to us, like, reading something like that, man, he's got it right there... This is why we do it. What you're doing is important, Ralph. Keep at it. I STRUGGLE GETTING STARTED My biggest podcast struggle is just getting started. How do I find the confidence to take the first step? -Jeffry You can do this. We eat an elephant one step at a time. Break it down. In my Podcast Launch Accelerator, we build your podcast step-by-step. First, define your why, your topic and your idea target listener. Next, develop your show structure. Will it be solo, interview or something else? Get some equipment. You'll need a mic, a laptop and some headphones. Download Audacity to help you record and edit. It is free software. Hit record and share your thoughts. Export your audio as an .mp3. Upload it to your audio host, like Libsyn. Connect your host to all the podcast players. Take it one step at a time. SOUNDING CONFIDENT How do I sound more confident and less arrogant. -Vanessa This is an interesting question, Vanessa. I'm not sure how you can be arrogant without being confident. People want to know what you know. Share it with them. Share yourself and your story. Let people fall in love with you. As Zig Ziglar said quite often, “You can get anything you want in life as long as you help enough other people get what they want.” Give. Help people reach their goals. Then, offer to give them more help for an investment. On this show, I offer a ton of free advice. I would hope you don't feel like I'm arrogant or egotistical. Take my content and put it into action. However, I'm here when you want more help. When you need someone to walk you every step of the way, reach out. I'm more than willing to have that conversation with you. Believe in yourself. Some people will love you. Others may not. And that's ok. Attract the people who love you for who you are. THE TIME STRUGGLE My challenge is finding time. It's hard doing it by myself. My biggest podcast struggle right now is finding people to help me. -Michael Schedule it. Put it on the calendar. What gets scheduled gets done. You can also get a co-host. Share the work. Hire a virtual assistant to take the easy stuff off your plate. This could include creating show notes, posting your episode, and the other rote work that is the same week after week. As we discussed earlier, you can hire an editor. You can see my work at www.podcasttalentcoach.com/editing. What is your time worth? Hiring an editor allows you to show up and share your magic. Then, you can hand it off to someone else to do the dirty work while you spend your time getting more clients and generating more revenue. LET ME HELP YOU I'd love to help you. You can send me your struggle and I'll answer it here on the show. Visit www.podcasttalentcoach.com/contact. You can send me a note there. If you're really serious about overcoming your biggest struggle, we can also sit down for an hour of coaching. I can take your hand and walk you every step of the way. To get the details, go to www.PodcastTalentCoach.com/apply, click the button and apply to have a chat with me. We will develop your plan and see how I can help and support you to achieve your podcast goals.
Missy and Scott Tannen founded Boll & Branch, risking their life savings to create a sustainable, luxury bedding brand with full supply chain transparency. In 10 years, the company became the largest consumer of organic cotton, generating over $200M in annual revenue. The brand has gained a loyal following, including the Obamas, who outfitted Air Force One with their products. They've expanded into new home categories, opened stores, and partnered with Prabal Gurung for the first organic cotton dress at the Met Gala.
Scott and Missy Tannen knew nothing about bed linens when they dreamed up the idea of launching a bedding company, but that didn't stop them from setting ambitious goals: super soft sheets, 100% organic cotton, and a supply chain that was traceable from end to end. Thanks to an article in the Wall Street Journal and a $2 million advertising bet on The Howard Stern Show, Boll & Branch grew rapidly, but also faced crippling cash crunches, forcing the Tannens to scramble for loans and borrow against their own home. Today, Boll & Branch is one of the most popular luxury linen brands in the U.S., with over $200 million in revenue. He co-founded the Harvard College Stand-Up Comic Society, the first organization at Harvard dedicated to the performance and appreciation of stand-up comedy, and one still popular on campus today.
There are many rising, young stars in our magic community. Some are gifted close-up workers while others are confident stage performers, all with bright futures ahead of them. One such young performer (now 28 years old) who excels in both and whom I have kept my eye on is Alex Boyce. His life has been consumed with magic and was a student at Tannen's Magic Camp. Since his graduation from the camp, he is now an instructor. He has competed in stage contests at magic conventions and worked his act in and around his home in New York including Scott's Resort in the Catskills where they filmed “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.” He now regularly performs at SpeakEasy Magick in New York City and is a client of Bill Herz, who represents many of the top names in magic today. The founders, Scott and Missy Tannen, started the company 10 years ago with no background in textiles, which gave them a unique advantage in reimagining how the industry operates. They have built a strong brand that values quality, authenticity, and customer trust. Boll & Branch started with a focus on sheets and bedding but has expanded into other categories like pillows and bath products. They aim to create a complete solution for the bedroom and bathroom. The company has been self-funded and profitable since its early years, allowing them to maintain control and focus on long-term sustainability. They recently raised capital to clean up their cap table and have a strong partnership with Elk Hatton, who invested $100 million in 2019. Boll & Branch has achieved a net revenue of around $200 million and continues to grow. They prioritize customer retention and emotional connection by providing traceability and transparency through their OriginTrack feature. The company is primarily direct-to-consumer but also has retail stores and partnerships with retailers like Nordstrom. Bowen Branch has dedicated spaces in Nordstrom and Bloomingdale's, with specific merchandising and fixturing. Wholesale is a small part of the business, with the majority of sales coming from direct-to-consumer channels. The decision to sell on Amazon is a defensive play to capture customers who search for brands on the platform. Bowen Branch aims to maintain a strong online presence while expanding its retail stores. The company offers bespoke services, such as custom manufacturing and interior design consultations. Marketing efforts focus on word-of-mouth, TV, influencers, social media, and print catalog. Bowen Branch positions itself at a higher price point, offering superior products and targeting customers who value a better experience. The pandemic had a consistent and solid impact on sales, while post-pandemic growth has been strong. Technology is leveraged to improve the customer experience, with a focus on usability and AI chatbots. Scott Tannen, the founder of Bowen Branch, is described as consistent, fair, and transparent as a leader. For high-end bedding brand Boll & Branch, the secret to growth has been on direct sourcing and keeping profitability always in mind. That's according to founder and CEO Scott Tannen. Boll & Branch first launched in 2014, and is currently bringing in more than $200 million in revenue a year. He chalks up this success to the way he built out his supply chain. While most DTC companies claim to cut out the middleman, Boll & Branch doesn't merely go to the manufacturers to make sheets. Instead, it works directly with cotton growers, which Tannen said made for a more robust business. "When you disrupt that supply chain, you have an opportunity to build a margin profile that's really, really strong," he said. "You're not living and dying by only buying your consumers." It also helps that some high-profile people like his products. "Among our fans include pretty much every living president at this point," he said. Jenna Bush, for example, is a brand ambassador for the company. And Tannen added, "I was very lucky that President Clinton invited me to meet him because he loved the product so much." Tannen joined this week's Modern Retail Podcast and spoke about Boll & Branch's growth. Much like other bedding brands in the space, Boll & Branch operated mostly online for many years. Then, shortly before the pandemic, it opened up a few stores. For obvious reasons, the company focused less on retail expansion. It did, however, ink a few wholesale partnerships with the likes of Nordstrom and Bloomingdale's. Now, Tannen is focusing once again on retail growth. The company is opening up three new stores this year, with plans to potentially open more after that. As Tannen described the retail strategy, "I'm thinking about: where are we winning? And where can I win bigger? How can I think about gaining more share where I'm leveraging a strength?" Another major lesson Tannen learned is to make every business decision with a long-term vision in mind. "We're always focused on staying above our skis from a profitability standpoint and from a capital standpoint," he said. "I plan to be in this business for a very long time -- we're not on a race to nowhere to either figure out how to get cash in the door, cash in my pocket or anything like that."
