The Federal Election is coming up on May 3rd and here at KCR we want you to be informed about the people you are voting for, their policies and what is likely to get done if they get elected. The Federal electorate of Gilmore stretches from Kiama in the north to Moruya in the south, taking in Nowra, Ulladulla, and many coastal and rural communities in between. Over 164,000 people call this diverse electorate home — including young families, retirees, First Nations communities, small business owners, students, and health professionals.  The Kiama LGA represents about 14% of the population of Gilmore and only 4% of the area. There are 8 candidates in total running for election.  Four of them have made their intentions clear for some months now and KCR has interviewed them already to try to get a sense of who they are as people, and you can hear podcasts of these interviews.   The other 4 candidates have entered the race too late to be included in this process.  In this series of podcast we are interviewing the four lead candidates in more detail about their policies:

He is a citizen of the Osage Nation (wazhazhe) and has been an activist in urban American Indian communities for four decades. He joined the faculty at Iliff School of Theology in 1985 and brought an American Indian perspective to this predominantly euro-christian school. Dr. Tinker is committed to a scholarly endeavor that takes seriously both the liberation of Indian peoples from their historic oppression as colonized communities and the liberation of euro-christian (White) Americans, the historic colonizers and oppressors of Indian peoples, whose self-narrative typically avoids naming the violence committed against Indians in favor of a romance narrative that justifies their euro-christian occupancy of Indian lands. A True Australian Outback Story by Colin BarnesColin Barnes traces the life of his father, Ronald Barnes, from his modest beginnings on a property about three miles west of a little town in New South Wales called Peak Hill, to a lovely coastal spot called Kings Point near Ulladulla, New South Wales. He also shares memories from his mother, Margaret Barnes. The book—filled with an assortment of family photos—is sad, happy, curious, and funny with a little adventure thrown in. As you read, you'll learn what it was like growing up in the Australian outback from the 1930s to the 1960s. Eventually, the author's parents left the bush and moved to the city. After a lifetime of hard work, they finally were able to enjoy a comfortable retirement. This family history will leave you reflecting on how a positive attitude, perseverance, and an attitude of gratitude can lead to living the life you always wanted.Colin Barnes wrote this book based on memories that his father, Ronald J. Barnes, had put down about his life. His father started writing after he retired, and his son decided to preserve his life story and legacy, starting from modest beginnings in Peak Hill, New South Wales, Australia. He also consulted his mother, Margaret H. Barnes, who also shared her memories and added to the story.https://www.amazon.com/True-Australian-Outback-Story/dp/B0CKB3PZZH/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1696551940&sr=1-1http://www.GothamBooksInc.com   https://authorwebservices-vip.net/BalboaPress/844497/http://www.bluefunkbroadcasting.com/root/twia/112923cbgoth.mp3

#033 - Grant Emans is the founder of Designer Eco Tiny Homes, based in Ulladulla on the South Coast of NSW.  If you've been listening to the show for a while, you'll know that Designer Eco are building my own tiny home!In this conversation we talk about:Grant's story and background in the construction industry and how he came to specialise in tiny house buildsThe shifts Grant has seen in the tiny house world from when he started building tiny homes and what's currently present in the industry todayFor DIY tiny house builders - some options that Designer Eco offers, including trailers and shells to lock upAll about solar trailers and the benefits compared to solar panels on your tiny house roofThe tiny house models Designer Eco build and the process to work with them… and more! About Grant Emans"Back in 2000 I began my journey in the construction industry. Along with my brother, I formed a building company, and together for over 10 years, worked on all types of building projects. These included residential homes, renovations, child care centres, office fit-outs, and home maintenance.  During this time I felt a strong need to drive change in the industry as many of the architect and draftsmen designed homes, along with traditional building practices were not sustainable. In 2010, we began a new construction business called Designer Eco Homes. We offered design and construction package that specialised in environmental sustainability. For over 5 years we created these homes which saw incredible change in the way we constructed homes for a more sustainable future. But so much more can be done. And that's what led to the idea of tiny homes.Based on the Tiny House Movement in the USA, 2016 brought a new era for me in design and construction. I ceased building regular homes with my brother and now focus primarily on the construction of tiny homes. These are incredible structures and offer the homeowner a highly sustainable option for housing. They are energy efficient, eco-friendly and affordable. The versatility of a tiny home, along with their affordability allows me to create environmentally sustainable building solutions for a wider range of people. With modern transportation, I can now offer these incredible housing solutions for the whole of Australia, and even beyond.Designer Eco Tiny Homes is founded on trust, reliability and a proven track record. I understand the importance of what a home means to people. It's not just a building, it encompasses so much more than that. Our traditional values, combined with the latest construction techniques and technologies, ensure that our clients will receive the highest quality finish achievable."Find out more about the podcast and get the episode show notes & links here:https://tinyhouseconversations.com/033You can follow Grant and Designer Eco's tiny adventures here:W: https://designerecotinyhomes.com.au/IG: https://www.instagram.com/designerecotinyhomes/ FB: https://www.facebook.com/designerecotinyhomes/  YT: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC7A1RhGMtWLB63u6eT74bzgYou can follow my tiny adventures here:IG: https://www.instagram.com/tinyhouseconversationsFB:  https://www.facebook.com/tinyhouseconversationsSupport the show

School. Who can say they enjoyed every moment of it? I don’t know man kids who are thrilled to be going to school. What is it that makes it such a drag and does it have to be that way? In an ever-changing world and with an unprecedented challenge that school age kids and parents alike have to deal with these days with social media and other technology, maybe there’s a different way of educating our youth that’s worth exploring? In this episode, we have local practitioners Peter Anderson, a chiropractor, and his wife Wan Yi Ng a GP, come on to talk about the ambitious project they’ve embarked on. They’re in the process of developing the Milton Ulladulla Small School, a small community-based school right here in our area. It's an alternative to the mainstream primary school education system along the lines of Montessori or green schools but it won't be under any particular one umbrella. I find it fascinating that these two academics who have obviously spent many years in the education system believe that there is a better way we can be teaching our youth, but also inspiring that they're backing themselves so much in what they believe in to offer this alternative school to our community. If you would like to show your support or express your interest, please reach out to Peter and Wan Yi. All details below. And here’s some links to other similar schools that were mentioned in the chat! About Regional – a new place for the stories of South East NSW… Long before Donald Trump turned America’s back on the Paris Agreement, Australian families decided that investing in solar energy for their homes and businesses made sense – Australia has the highest take up rate in the world. The NSW Office of Environment and Heritage (OEH) have just been in the region, dropping in on towns where the take up of solar panels hasn’t been as great as it has been in other communities. Free community seminars were held in Queanbeyan, Cooma, Eden and Ulladulla under the banner of ‘Demystifying Solar Power’ OEH staff were on hand to answer questions and lead discussion – explaining the different options for businesses and households wanting to switch to solar and save money and save the planet. The Paris Agreement was part of the conversation, but it all happened before Trump quite, but I don’t think that would have changed a thing.
