#1232 Today, we're back with another Where Are They Now? session. Back in episode 1181, Wendy Lewis had a book coming out, and she was creating her first online course. She was feeling overwhelmed, so I gave her some tips about starting small and keeping things simple. Something I said really stuck with her: “Fail small to win big.” I should say that more often. So how has Wendy been taking action? She's a board-certified reflexologist and taking that kind of business online can be difficult, but she's been doing a fantastic job. We talk about her ups and downs and hear about the amazing beta launch she just did for her course. We also talk about all the fun things Wendy has planned for her business and how SPI Pro is helping her stay motivated. Make sure to listen in on our call and use the inspiration to take action in your own business! Chief Executive Officer Wendy Lewis discussed the work of The Parkinson Council whose mission is to provide financial support to local nonprofits and institutions dedicated to improving the quality of life for people with Parkinson's disease, their families and care partners. Founded by volunteers who turned to fundraising, The Parkingson Council provides research grants to major institutions including Penn and Jefferson, as well as funding for programs working to support with people with Parkinsons - movement or even singing groups. #raiselocalstayslocal She discussed what they know about the disease, it's caused by a lack of information-transmitting dopamine, it does occur in families through a genetic mutation, but how and why it is triggered is still being studied. Veterans exposed to Agent Orrange and rural communities near pesticides are especially vulnerable. While early-onset can occur in your 30s and 40s, it's mostly diagnosed later in life and mistaken for common aging. She noted they are working to increase awareness within our different communities, where diagnosis is often delayed by poor access to medical care and lack of awareness. Ms Lewis described the symptoms that include arms that don't swing as you walk, constipation and tremors, and the research they fund for new treatments. She asks us to support their mission, the easy way through their Walk to End Parkinsons October 16 at the Philadelphia Zoo. With its theme, Empower Community the funds raised will continue to support the local research and patient programming. You can participate on site or virtually, as an individual or as part of a team. For more information visit THEPARKINSONCOUNCIL.ORG
I've struggled with skin issues since adolescence. If I'm being totally honest, it's still one of my biggest insecurities. Through the years, it's even had an effect on my mental health and how I show up in the world, but I never really heard much about that side of things growing up. Enter: Wendy Lewis, founder of The Acne Effect. Her mission is to bring awareness and educate the public about the impact acne has on mental health. #1181 Wendy Lewis used to work as a writer at a marketing and ad agency. And she's still a writer, but she also has a new passion: reflexology, working with athletes and helping people regain function. She's excited to create her first online reflexology course, but she's feeling stuck. The whole thing seems a little overwhelming to her. I want you to pay attention to how Wendy describes an online course before we start talking about the solutions to making the online course creation process easier for her. Because as you'll find out, things are often a lot easier than we think they should be. And there's a lot of things that I've learned over the years that I pass on to Wendy in this conversation, that I would love to pass on to you as well. So whether it's an online course or something else that you want to create, let's get through it, and let's get through it together.
