My best friend Tina and I were in hanging out on the California Central Coast this last week, from San Luis Obispo and Morro Bay up to San Simeon and Cambria. We took our bikes cuz when exploring, a bicycle is the perfect balance of covering more ground than walking but doing it slowly enough not to miss the details. We love the details. Life is the details. When Tina and I travel we love to get off the tourist paths as quickly as possible and try to get lost. We want to chat with locals and set ourselves up to see stuff we haven't seen before. We want to be surprised. It's why we haunt specialty shops and roadside art galleries and antique stores and hole-in-the-wall cafes—precisely in the hope of discovering something new. It's also why I always order the most unique item on the menu. It's why we take the road less traveled. So did it work? It always works. This time out we learned …•Female elephant seals and their pups molt in April.•An Ollalieberry is a cross between a blackberry and a raspberry, and might be the best of both.•Using raspberry in a rhubarb pie adds sweetness but doesn't mask the rhubarb the way strawberries do. It's brilliant.•A wooden surfboard is built very much like the wing of an airplane.•In the right context, a purple house can totally work.•A high tide needs to exceed 5½' in order to fully access the Morro Bay estuary by kayak.•Incredibly beautiful translucent lamps can be made from pressed and dried coco leaves.•Fried polenta cakes are delicious for breakfast.•There is a staircase trail of 250 steps that leads from the back of the Cambria Pines Lodge down to downtown Cambria. No one needs to climb it, but if you choose to in April you just might come upon a large family of mule deer that in turn may choose to climb with you.•There are also mule deer that nibble the grass between the hundred year old graves at the Old Santa Rosa Chapel Cemetery.•The Western Osprey (aka: Seahawk) is one of the most magnificent birds of prey you'll ever see.So the lessons of a good get-away are simple … In this world of ours there's never an excuse for boredom. If you want to live then get out there and live. Start by exploring your own life, your own town. Stretch. Open yourself to new experiences. Put yourself somewhere where the unexpected can happen and move slowly enough to catch the details.Henry Ford once said, “If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always got.” I fully agree and would add the immortal words of Robert Frost, “I shall be telling this with a sighSomewhere ages and ages hence:Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—I took the one less traveled by,And that has made all the difference.”If you've never taken the road less traveled, perhaps today is the day. You never know what might happen. It may refresh you. It may challenge you. It will definitely surprise you. And most importantly, from that road you might be surprised just how easy it is to build yourself a beautiful life.

In this episode I ask Tina how she found the courage to start maximizing her potential. What was the turning point for her and what did it take? Tina also shares how she helps other people to Maximize their potential and what advice she would give her 7th grade self.Tina is a master story teller and loves sharing. She was a school teacher for 14 years before leaving to become a full time coach. After 4 years she was sat at her computer one day in tears because she felt like she wasn't successful. Despite looking like a rock star on social media, YouTube and an online TV show she felt like she had tried everything but it wasn't working. She had invested in a multitude of systems and coaches, spending thousands of dollars and yet she was hearing crickets. This was compounded when a team she had invested in "fired" her! They had gained what they wanted from Tina and left her high and dry. She was about to give in, she was at her lowest point and was ready to go back to teaching. A coach reached out to her and asked how she was doing. She thought about telling him that everything was well but instead she spilled the truth and in the process discovered the block that was holding her back. She was afraid of being visible. She felt she had to say what people wanted her to say. In other words she didn't feel like she could be herself. Tina was able to track this back to 7th grade when she was the new girl in class and other girls rejected her. Tina realized that this had carried into her adult life and was stopping her being true to herself. When Tina realized this she gained new awareness and it changed her life.We all have limitations that have been imposed on us by other people so we need to release those constraints and learn how we can release the untapped potential that resides within us.When you gain this new awareness you can start to think about what is possible. What would it be like if I could show up as a leader? What would it be like to be my authentic self?Yes, it is scary but growth comes when we move outside of our comfort zone. Tina's turning point came when she was asked to MC a ladies conference and despite her fear she rose to the challenge and was a huge success. From this event she gained 10 high paying clients that she would never have received if she had continued to live under the limitations imposed by how others made her feel.Share your story because other people will be feeling the same. You never know what is going on in other people's minds and by sharing your story it helps others realize that they are not alone. Tina's business took off with this new awareness. She created a coaching program and earned $10,000 in 10 days and $100,000 in the next 5 months. It requires taking uncomfortable actions, facing breakdowns and breakthroughs but it is worth it. When you gain momentum other opportunities show up, success attracts more success!I asked Tina: What advice would you give your 7th grade self?Tina's answer was: Don't be afraid to be yourself. Don't worry about what other people think. Find your path, find your purpose and stay on track. This same advice applies equally to adults who are stuck in a rut, disengaged in their position and who want more from their life. The only way to grow your business is to connect with others. Make yourself visible and put yourself out there. Many think that they are not good enough but that simply is not the truth, you are good enough. You can contact Tina on LinkedIn, Facebook, YouTube, or on her website: tinabrigley.com/Contact me:Website: www.Chris-J-Baker.comEmail: Chris@Chris-J-Baker.comFacebook: Release Your Unconscious PageFacebook: Leadership Excellence with Chris BakerLinkedIn: Chris BakerInstagram: chris _j_baker_ryuTo purchase my book 10 Steps 2 Freedom from Amazon click here.

Tina Gleisner, our regular guest from Home Tips For Women, joins us again today to talk about home maintenance. For the last seventeen years, Tina has been working in a variety of different ways within the arena of home maintenance, so she has become a treasure trove of knowledge.  Women are taking responsibility for maintaining their homes In years gone by, many women used to think that home maintenance was a man's responsibility. Fortunately, it's no longer like that today. Tina knows a lot about homes, how to maintain them, and how to take care of them. And she also knows how to relate all of this to women because she's aware of what they are capable of doing, and she understands the way that women get things done around the home.  Understanding how to maintain your home doesn't mean you have to do all the work yourself When Tina started her handyman business, she found that there were lots of women who were too afraid to pick up the phone and call a contractor, even though they were having a serious problem. This is why it's very important, as a woman, to understand how to maintain your own home. And understanding how to maintain your home does not mean that you have to do all the work yourself.  Priorities Your number one priority with home maintenance is to get the work done, whether you do it yourself, or you hire someone else to do it for you. This means that the degree to which you need to understand the problem is a lot less. This is why Tina focuses on the concepts, terminology, and the importance of doing certain things. And why she shares enough basic information to empower you to talk to contractors with confidence.  If a contractor refuses to listen to you or to accept that you know what you're talking about, you can take a picture to prove their ineptitude, and send it to the management of the company that they work for, along with the details of your complaint.  The top three reasons why outdoor maintenance is so important You need to protect your investment. You need to consider the safety aspect of the outside of your home, especially if you have children. When it's time to relax, you want to be able to do that without having to think about any of the things that still might need to be cleaned, repaired, or maintained. Maintaining the outside of your home 1. Safety:  You need to be safe when dealing with your outdoor maintenance activities. First, inspect the tools that you will be using, like ladders and gardening tools, to make sure that they are in good condition and ready to use. It's also a good idea to get your lawnmower check-up done before you need to use it, or you could end up having to wait two or three weeks until it's done. You could consider pooling and sharing tools that are only used occasionally with your others in your neighborhood.  Remember to be very careful when using a high-pressure washer to clean your decks and other wooden surfaces. This is the kind of task where you could be better off with making use of the services of a professional. Check the front and the back of the house to see that there is enough lighting, all the handrails are tight, and nothing is lying around any of the pathways and entrances that someone could trip over. 2. Back yard: If you're going to be grilling your meals outdoors, you will need enough seating and a comfortable place to cook, put plates down, and to do whatever you need to do to enjoy your experience.  Patios will need to be cleaned and decks might need to be stained and sealed. You could consider getting a professional to do it for you.  You might want to put some screens around some of your outdoor space if you're having a problem with bugs. Or you could use a natural insect repellant. 3. Gardening: To water your shrubs, you could run some drip-lines through the garden. You can even set up a timer so that the shrubs are watered automatically.  Planning ahead can result in fewer trips to the store and better results. Remember to reward yourself when everything is done! Links and resources: Tina's website - www.hometipsforwomen.com

I met Tina in a Starbucks Coffee Shop where she offered to carry my tote bag for me that day. Tina was a dental hygienist and her husband felt she was destined to help more people around the world. He was right! In 1998, she purchased Great Lakes Academy of Hair Design. She is a light to those around her. Once you hear her interview you will understand why she is so amazing. When Tina heard about the newly forming Paul Mitchell school network, she jumped at the opportunity and immediately flew out to meet the company's dean and co-founder, Winn Claybaugh. Tina loved what she heard and in 2004 her school became Paul Mitchell The School Great Lakes and one of the 10 original Paul Mitchell schools. She has since opened several schools and salons since that day. Tina believes in "people before profit" and she often says "I'm in the business of changing lives." She has published four books Be a Leader, Be Amazing, Be a Planner, and Be Uncommon. Tina is a big believer in giving back and her schools are consistently ranked in the top 10 for fundraising. When Tina and Randy Kacirek traveled to Ukraine in 2004 to adopt their daughter Grace, they had no idea how it would change their lives. Out of fear they said “yes” to the screeching, sickly 15 month old and brought her home. Through Grace the Kacirek’s eyes were opened to the horrific plight of special needs children in overseas orphanages. Tina could no longer sleep at night knowing that children with special needs who did not get adopted ended up in adult mental institutions even though they were just school aged. The Kacirek’s put their faith into action and adopted 4 more special needs children from Eastern Europe. Along the way they established Grace Haven Families, a ministry that creates healing environments and support for orphans and adoptive families. Children who have been institutionalized have very unique needs and their families need support on their parenting journey, Grace Haven provides that community. Tina Kacirek is one of the 28 featured authors in the book Hope For the Adoption Journey by Katherine Piper. Her story is featured in Chapter 2 and is entitled “Grace Found.” You can also listen to our conversation with Tina on our Orphans No More podcast right on this website by clicking here.

It was Hippocrates that famously said “all disease starts in the gut” - he was wise beyond his time! In fact, many of the chronic diseases we face today are caused by an unbalanced microbiome.   For years, Tina Anderson worked as a general counsel for a family pharmaceutical business. But the more she stayed, the more she realized how abusive that industry is - the over-prescribing, for instance, or reps lobbying doctors to prescribe medication to more people, even those who don’t need it yet. Or friends who, after starting one pharmaceutical, suddenly had to take ten more to balance the side effects. You can’t fault the business model: one drug lowers blood pressure but causes joint pain, so you have to take another pill to reduce joint pain but that one damages your stomach, so you take a third pill to counter the stomach problems but that one causes poor circulation, and so on.   Tina had gone into the pharmaceutical business because she wanted to help people improve their health, so she was appalled by what was really going on. Even though there is a place for pharmaceuticals (like in emergency situations), they are not the answer when it comes to healing chronic conditions like diabetes, heart disease, autoimmune disorders. These are lifestyle illnesses, and therefore must be healed by a change in lifestyle, not a drug.   When Tina began researching natural health, particularly gut health, she was blown away. What she found led her to patent a powerful and unique probiotic strain, and launch the probiotic company Just Thrive. Now, she’s on a mission to help more people naturally heal their gut, and thrive.   What’s the deal with gut health? The microbiome affects almost every aspect of your physical health. And it’s being impacted on a daily basis by our modern lifestyles: antibiotics, glyphosate, toxins, processed food, stress, all these things create an imbalance in the gut, also known as dysbiosis. This happens when bad bacteria takes over the good bacteria. The other big issue is leaky gut, which over 80% of adults suffer from without even realizing it.   What is leaky gut? Leaky gut is a condition characterized by tiny holes in your intestinal wall which allow undigested particles (like LPS toxins) from your gut leak into your blood stream. Your immune system doesn’t recognize these particles, and attacks by launching an inflammatory response. This is at the root of all autoimmune disorders, but also other chronic conditions like Alzheimer’s and heart disease.   What causes leaky gut? Glyphosate is one of the biggest problems. It’s a pesticide, but it’s actually registered as an antibiotic. Unlike medical antibiotics that target both the good and bad bacteria, glyphosate only targets the good bacteria. So why is it still allowed to be used? Because they say it doesn’t affect human cells. The problem with that statement is that we’re made up of 90% bacterial cells. Which means glyphosate does affect us. Eating organic is a must, and eating fermented foods helps… but it’s vital to repopulate the good bacteria in the gut - and you do that with a probiotic.   Which is the best strain of probiotic to take? Most probiotics are very sensitive. Lactobacillus, for example, don’t survive the gastric system. But bacillus ARE able to survive the gastric system - which means they get to your gut because they’re not destroyed by your stomach. These strains reverse the damage done by glyphosate, and even reduce levels of ghrelin (the hunger hormone).   I haven’t used another probiotic since I’ve tried Just Thrive, it’s THAT good - I take it every day. Actress and playwright Tina Alexis Allen's audacious memoir, HIDING OUT: A Memoir of Drugs, Deception, and Double Lives (Dey Street Books, On Sale: 2/20/2018, ISBN: 9780062565679) unravels her privileged suburban upbringing as shaped by her formidable father—a man whose deep Catholic faith and dedication to his large family hid his true nature and a life defined by deep secrets and dangerous lies.  Imagine it—the moment many closeted young adults dread—when your stern, devoutly Catholic father discovers you are gay. The youngest of thirteen children, Tina Alexis Allen grew up in 1980s suburban Maryland in a house ruled by her father, Sir John, an imposing, British-born authoritarian who had been knighted by the Pope. Sir John supported his large family running a successful travel agency that specialized in religious tours to the Holy Land and the Vatican for pious Catholics. But his daughter, Tina, was no sweet and innocent Catholic girl. A smart-mouthed high school basketball prodigy, she harbored a painful secret: she was attracted to girls. When Tina was eighteen her father uncovered the truth about her sexuality. But instead of dragging her to confession or the family priest, her father simply took her hand and said, "I buried my lover, Omar, in the war" making Tina his unlikely confidant and creating a clandestine bond that would evolve into become a web of secrets and lies. On this episode of She Rises, host Giovanna Capozza interviews Tina Alexis Allen. Tina explains why she chose to write her book now, and details her “she rises” moment. Once she understood herself, Tina was able to write and perform shows about herself. Tina is the youngest of 13 kids and grew up in a devoutly Catholic home. Tina explains her coming out to her father and her father’s big revelation. Giovanna and Tina discuss how relationships changed between Tina and her family when her dad became her confidant. There were more secrets going on in her family life that were not apparent to her. Tina’s father was travelling to Russia in the 1950’s and she starts to put the pieces together. Tina is still waiting for her father’s information to get released to the Secret Archives of the papacy. Tina talks about her writing process and how it unravelled. We have an obligation to see our parents as human beings. The point of the book is to give the reader a sense of freedom to put a mirror up to their own life. Tina talks about where she is now with her relationship to her faith. Tweetable Quotes: I asked myself “If I could be anything, what would I be?” and I gave myself permission to answer. Keeping secrets is intense, you’re hiding beneath the pressure of not being who you really are. Yes, we can see mistakes and learn from them, but it’s not our place to judge. I sat down with Tina Conroy, A.K.A The Intuitive Woman, to talk about all things intuition. Tina is a yoga instructor, reiki master, and intuitive who first realized she could connect with Spirit and intuition as a child. Tina shares story after story of how she first connected with her gifts, her family history with intuition and prophetic dreams in particular, and how she really came into her own with intuition as an adult.  What I love most about this episode — and I really loved all of it — is how Tina breaks down the components of intuition and shares practical tools for developing it your own life. If you've ever been curious about intuition or wanted to strengthen your own skills, this episode is for you. We talk about everything from what intuition is and how it shows up for people, daily practices to help you be more in tune with your intuition, and tools to help you along the way (like meditation, crystals, and oracle cards). I’d love to hear from you! What stood out most from Tina’s interview? Do you consider yourself to be intuitive? How has that shown up in your life?  Topics Discussed: An introduction to Tina Conroy and what she does When Tina first realized she was intuitive and how that shaped her childhood Intuition in children and why that fades as we get older What intuition is and how that can show up for people The 4 "clairs" of intuition — clairaudience (hearing voices), clairvoyance (seeing images), clairsentience (recognizing feelings), and claircognizance (knowing) How to determine your "clair" and what that means for you The cultural and societal differences with feelings and intuition Empathic versus clairsentient (or intuitive) and how that shows up Tools for protecting your energy and creating a shield around yourself The benefits of intuition and learning to trust what's showing up Daily practices to help you connect with your own intuition The value of a morning routine and what Tina's looks like Tarot versus oracle cards and the different messages that show up based on what you use Why Tina says "rejection is God's protection" Tina’s definition of everyday magic and how it shows up in her life Gratitude as a way to be more present to the miracles in the everyday A spiritual growth period and how that culminated for Emily during her sabbatical Connect with Tina online: Website The Intuitive Woman Podcast The Intuitive Woman Group on FB Instagram Resource Links: The Miracle Morning* by Hal Elrod Insight Timer The Sacred Creators Oracle Deck* by Chris-Anne Donnelly of Pixie Curio Wisdom of the Oracle Divination Cards: Ask and Know* from Collette Baron Reid Thank & Grow Rich* by Pam Grout   Hit me up: Twitter: @emilylevenson and #somekindofmagic Instagram: @emilylevenson and #somekindofmagic FB Page: Emily Levenson   * This is an affiliate link.

"The freaks were at the Lusty. They wanted to be seen. They were shoving zucchinis up their asses and tying themselves into pretzels They were wearing santa hats and coming in as a gang of clowns and all jerking off together. Does it come from shame?” When Tina was in LA, she dropped by writer Antonia Crane's place to dig into some questions about erotic shame. Why are people so attached to their own erotic shame? Can sex help you overcome the power that shame holds over you? Do we NEED shame for sex to be fun? Whats the difference between liberation and hedonism in feminist sex positive culture? Should we harness shame and make it our bitch? Antonia Crane is a performer, 2-time Moth Story Slam Winner and writing instructor in Los Angeles. She has written for The New York Times, The Believer, The Toast, Playboy, Cosmopolitan, Salon.com, The Rumpus, Electric Literature, DAME, The Los Angeles Review, Quartz: The Atlantic Media, Medium.com, Buzzfeed and dozens of other places. Her screenplay “The Lusty” (co-written by Transparent director, writer Silas Howard), based on the true story of the exotic dancer’s labor union, is a recipient of the San Francisco Film Society/Kenneth Rainin Foundation Grant in screenwriting, 2015.
