From living off the grid to helping businesses get recommended by AI, Mike Caldwell (The Marketing Medic) explains how to win in an AI-first search world without obsessing over traditional SEO. He shares how his small Mad Trapper trail race series outranks huge competitors inside AI, thanks to clear, empathic messaging that speaks to people's difficulties, desires, dreads, and dreams. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kNjZZe-gmsQ We break down Mike's AI Visibility Stack Message, Mechanics, Mentions, Match and why clarity beats cleverness in copywriting for both humans and AI. You'll hear how things like schema, consistent branding, and question-based headings help AI truly “get” what you do, plus a wild story of how one popular business was basically invisible to AI because of a single WordPress performance plugin. If you want AI to recommend you (not just your bigger competitors), this episode gives you a practical roadmap that blends empathic marketing, simple technical fixes, and a human-first approach summarized in Mike's rule: “Sell unto others as you would have them sell unto you.” Quotes: “Clarity beats cleverness. You don't need flowery copywriting—you need direct, clear copywriting. That's what your audience is going to respond to, and that is also what AI is going to understand as well.” “SEO is about tweaking the algorithm. AI visibility is about the personal side—how clearly you speak to real people's problems and desires.” “You can have tons of five-star reviews and great content, and still be invisible to AI if the mechanics are wrong. One plugin can literally erase 95% of your site from AI's view.” Contact Details: Connect with Mike Caldwell on FacebookConnect with Mike Caldwell on InstagramConnect with Mike Caldwell on LinkedInMike Caldwell on AmazonMike Caldwell official website

What if websites could understand how you feel?In this episode of Future of UX, Patricia talks with Sebastian, Director of UX Design at Virtual Identity, about a concept that could fundamentally change how we design digital experiences: the Empathic Web.Instead of static interfaces that look the same for every user, the empathic web describes a future where digital products can adapt to a user's emotional state in real time. Interfaces, tone of voice, information density, and even entire user journeys could dynamically change depending on whether someone feels stressed, curious, overwhelmed, or motivated.Sebastian shares how advances in AI, behavioral signals, and new interaction models might make this possible and what it means for designers. The conversation also explores the growing role of AI agents in digital products and why designers might soon have to design not only for humans but also for autonomous systems interacting with our products. At the same time, this shift raises important ethical questions. If systems can detect emotions, how should companies use that information responsibly? Where is the line between helpful personalization and manipulation? This episode is a deep dive into the future of UX and how AI could transform the way digital experiences are designed.✨ What the Empathic Web is and why it matters✨ How AI could detect emotions through signals like mouse movement, voice, and interaction patterns✨ Why digital experiences may become dynamic instead of static✨ How designers might start designing for emotional states across the user journey✨ What Agentic UX means and why AI agents will change product design✨ How websites may need to become agent friendly and machine readable✨ Ethical questions around emotional data and manipulation✨ Why learning experiences could be a perfect use case for empathic interfacesSebastian is Director of UX Design at Virtual Identity, a digital agency working across Munich, Freiburg, Vienna, and Porto. Before returning to industry, he spent years in academia as a Professor of Design Management in Berlin, researching the intersection of design, technology, and culture. His current work focuses on the future of UX in an AI driven world, including topics like the Empathic Web, Agentic UX, and AI powered digital experiences.Connect with Sebastian: LinkedInAI for Designers: 5-week Bootcamp

There is a tension beneath helping others that most people never question. What feels like empathy can sometimes be driven by something deeper, a need to resolve our own discomfort, stabilize our identity, or feel whole through someone else's experience. In this first part of a two-part conversation, Amy reconnects with returning guest Dr. Aaron Tabacco to explore empathic distress, the hidden patterns of fixing, and the concept of “leaky identity.” Together, they unpack how even our most well-intentioned actions can unintentionally center ourselves, reshaping how we understand empathy, leadership, and emotional responsibility. The conversation invites a more grounded, sustainable way of showing up for others without losing ourselves in the process, creating space for clarity, awareness, and a more honest form of connection.Moments That Create Momentum:1. The Hidden Cost Of Fixing Others – See how the instinct to help can unintentionally disrupt growth and silence others' experiences.2. Understanding Empathic Distress – Learn how emotional overwhelm often reflects internal discomfort rather than external responsibility.3. What “Leaky Identity” Really Means – Explore how identity becomes dependent on others' responses and why that creates instability.4. The Shadow Side Of Being An Empath – Uncover how empathy can become self-serving when it is tied to validation and worth.5. Why Compassion Is Not The Same As Empathy – Gain clarity on the distinction that allows for presence without depletion.6. Social Conditioning And The Role Of Caretaking – Recognize how cultural and gender dynamics shape patterns of over-responsibility.About the Guest:Aaron Tabacco, PhD, has spent more than thirty years guiding people through growth and change, often in complex and high-stakes environments. Many highly empathic, high-achieving leaders reach a point where success alone no longer feels fulfilling. If you're a highly sensitive leader who has checked all the boxes - career success, recognition, achievement - yet still feel called to something deeper, this episode will help you understand why. Empathic leadership requires more than accomplishment. It requires alignment. In this episode, we explore why empathic, intuitive leaders often mistake achievement for true fulfillment and how reconnecting with your inner knowing can help you step into your next level of impact. You'll learn: The key difference between empathy and intuition and why confusing the two can lead to burnout Why high achievers often chase success that doesn't actually nourish them How empathic leaders can stop over-giving and reconnect with their deeper purpose Signs you're being called into a more meaningful version of leadership Why transitions (career changes, empty nesting, midlife shifts) often activate deeper alignment If you've ever felt like you're meant for something more...but can't quite explain why...this conversation will help you trust what you're sensing. Because empathic leadership isn't about doing more. It's about becoming more aligned with who you already are. In this thoughtful and deeply human episode of The First Day from The Fund Raising School, host Bill Stanczykiewicz, Ed.D., welcomes Alison Jane Martingano, Ph.D., Assistant Professor at the University of Wisconsin–Green Bay, for a fascinating conversation about empathy, burnout, and what fundraisers can learn from research rooted in healthcare. With clarity, warmth, and just the right amount of scientific precision, Alison Jane unpacks a deceptively simple idea: empathy is not just a feel-good virtue, it can actually help protect professionals from burnout. For fundraisers, whose work is built on connection, compassion, and constant attention to others, that insight lands with particular force. This episode makes a compelling case that understanding how we empathize may be just as important as the fact that we do. A key strength of the conversation is its careful distinction between different types of empathy. Alison Jane explains that empathy is not one single emotional blob, but a multidimensional concept that includes cognitive empathy, empathic concern, and emotional contagion or distress. Cognitive empathy is the ability to understand what someone else is thinking or feeling without becoming overwhelmed yourself. Empathic concern is the warm, compassionate response that keeps the focus on the other person. Those two forms of empathy, she explains, are associated with less burnout. The problem arises with distress-based empathy, when a person does not merely care about someone else's suffering but begins to carry it internally, mirroring the pain as their own. That distinction becomes one of the episode's most useful takeaways: feeling for others can sustain us, while feeling overwhelmed with them can slowly wear us down. Bill does an especially effective job translating the research into the daily reality of fundraising, where professionals are constantly immersed in stories of need, urgency, and hope. Fundraisers are, by nature and by job description, intensely other-focused. They advocate for people experiencing hunger, illness, educational barriers, housing insecurity, and countless other challenges. Alison Jane suggests that this outward focus may actually be a source of resilience, so long as it remains grounded in compassion rather than self-consuming distress. In one of the episode's clearest and most memorable formulations, the conversation draws a bright line between being inspired to help and carrying another person's suffering “like a bag of bricks.” That difference matters. It gives fundraisers permission to care deeply without believing they must emotionally collapse in order to prove that care is real. As the episode concludes, Alison Jane offers an important note of honesty and restraint: empathy may be preventative, but it is not curative. Once true burnout has taken hold, the answer is not simply to care harder or dig deeper emotionally. Burnout, she explains, is a structural problem caused by too many demands and too few resources, and that means real solutions must include institutional support, reduced stressors, and healthier workplace conditions. Bill closes by reinforcing why psychology matters so much in fundraising in the first place; philanthropy is fundamentally about human connection. Donors, volunteers, and fundraisers alike are driven by meaning, identity, and emotion. The episode's final message is both reassuring and wise: empathy, when practiced in healthy ways, can help fundraisers stay connected to their mission without losing themselves in the process.
Have you ever been in a conversation where someone becomes uncomfortable… and suddenly you feel like it's your job to fix it? You soften your tone. You explain more than you intended. You change the subject. Not because you're unsure of yourself - but because you can feel the emotional shift in the room. Empathy is a powerful leadership strength. But when empathy turns into emotional responsibility, it can lead to exhaustion, self-censorship, and constantly managing other people's reactions. In this episode, Brenda explores: why empathic women often feel responsible for others' emotions how biology, environment, and culture reinforce this pattern the difference between emotional awareness and emotional responsibility how leadership shifts when you stop managing the room Brenda also introduces the POWER Method, the framework she uses with clients to stay anchored when relational pressure appears. On this, our 311th Evolutionary Lens livestream, we discuss what is happening in Minneapolis. First: research finds that on average, men and women experience empathy differently: men do not have empathy for people who have done wrong; women have empathy for people regardless of context. Then: Was the Alex Pretti shooting by ICE officers in Minneapolis a cold-blooded murder, or a justified homicide? How would we know? Few of us were actual eye-witnesses to the scene, but our modern media environment tricks us into believing, unconsciously, that we know more than we do. This feels like Portland in 2020. We are being manipulated into disjunct narratives, taught to distrust and fear one another, at ever greater distance from simply being good neighbors and fellow citizens. Even though P.K. Beville is considered an expert in psychology and gerontology, she still felt lost and overwhelmed as a dementia caregiver for her dad. P.K. is the founder of Second Wind Dreams, a pioneering nonprofit that fulfills dreams for older adults and champions dignity, hope, and joy in aging. She is the creator of the internationally acclaimed Virtual Dementia Tour®, a training tool that has helped millions better understand and care for those living with dementia. In 2023, she launched Empathic Transitions to support families during end-stage dementia and is currently certifying the first Dementia Doulas. In this episode of the Happy Healthy Caregiver podcast, we talk about why caring for a loved one in any setting is still tricky, how the phrase ‘I wish' sparked an uplifting non-profit in the older adult space, where we can find sources for humor and joy, and why the end-of-life experience for those living with dementia is different. Have you had one of those consults in which you're thinking, huh, sounds like the patient's goals are clear, it's really that the clinician consulting us disagrees with those goals? To what extent is it our job as consultants to navigate, manage, or attend to clinician distress? What happens when that clinician distress leads eventually to conflict between the consulting clinician and the palliative care team? Today our guests Sara Johnson, Yael Schenker, & Anne Kelly discuss these issues, including: A recent paper first authored by Yael asking if attending to clinician distress is our job, published in JPSM. See also the wonderful conversation in the response letters from multidisciplinary providers (e.g. of course that's our job! And physicians may not be trained in therapy, but many social workers and chaplains are, and certainly psychologists). A SPACE pneumonic for addressing clinician conflict developed by Sara Johnson, Anne Kelly and others. They presented this at a recent AAHPM/HPNA meeting. See below for what SPACE stands for. We referenced a prior episode on therapeutic presence and creating a holding space with Kerri Brenner and Dani Chammas, and this article by Kerri. We talked about the role of the consultant, including this classic paper on consultation etiquette by Diane Meier and Larry Beresford. In this powerful episode of the Inside Personal Growth Podcast, host Greg Voisen sits down with Dr. Melissa Robinson Winemiller, author of The Empathic Leader, to explore why empathy is no longer a “soft skill,” but a strategic leadership advantage. Drawing from her personal journey—from classical musician to educator, researcher, and leadership consultant—Melissa shares how unempathetic leadership systems can derail careers, damage cultures, and stifle innovation. She explains how empathy is a learnable, actionable skill, rooted in perspective-taking, emotional intelligence, and self-awareness. Listeners will gain deep insight into how empathetic leadership drives higher productivity, stronger cultures, lower turnover, and increased profitability, especially in an AI-driven world where empathy cannot be automated. This conversation challenges outdated command-and-control leadership models and offers a practical framework for leaders who want to lead with clarity, courage, and humanity
Beloved, The holidays often bring up old patterns, don't they?Perhaps you find yourself saying yes when you want to say no. Or feeling responsible for everyone's happiness. Or shrinking yourself to keep the peace. These aren't random behaviors. They're unconscious emotional contracts - silent agreements you made long ago that continue to shape your reality today. There is an absence of understanding in western culture about how deeply harmful loneliness is for humans, and how important it is that we learn to cultivate warmth for ourselves. The Silent Agreements Shaping Your Reality (And How to Break Free)We do not receive enough warmth, and not having internalized a loving resonating self-witness, “alarmed aloneness grows.” Understanding how and why human brains need warmth is a key reason why resonant healing works to repattern our nervous systems toward kindness and resilience.Self-warmth is about the integration and internalization of experiences of affection, presence, understanding, and kindness that come to us from others. Empathic brings this forward in a step by step contract release process. If we haven't received this as young ones, we can build it ourselves.Empathica understands how the brain works and the importance to healing.Neuroplasticity shows that neurons can form new connections, receptors, and strengthen pathways through practice. Our brains can change and grow in self-compassion and resonance regardless of age, genetics, or past trauma. Early childhood experiences can trigger survival mode before we fully understand them, causing trauma to lock in and intensify over time. Recalling these memories reactivates that emotional pain.Invisible contracts have a invisible voice: “If I put others first, I'll be loved.” “If I never ask for what I need, I won't be rejected.” “If I stay small, I won't be criticized.”AND…….they drain your energy, cloud your intuition, and keep you trapped in cycles that no longer serve you. This is where Empathica, the Unconscious Emotional Circuit Breaker in The Light Between Oracle app, becomes your trusted ally.Through dialogue within the Light Between Journey, Empathica gently illuminates these hidden patterns using principles of relational neuroscience. She helps you identify where you've given your power away and guides you in reclaiming it.When you work with Empathica:* You'll recognize emotional triggers before they derail you* You'll transform reactions into conscious responses* You'll develop genuine self-compassion that dissolves old patternsDuring this season of giving, remember that the greatest gift you can offer yourself is freedom from these outdated contracts. When you release what no longer serves you, you create space for authentic connection - with yourself and others.Take a moment today to ask: What invisible agreement might be limiting me right now? Then open the app and let Empathica guide you toward emotional liberation.Tomorrow, we'll explore Elementa, who helps you connect with the wisdom of the seven elements to enhance your intuition and decision-making.To your emotional freedom, Kassandra P.S. True power isn't about controlling circumstances - it's about liberating yourself from the unconscious patterns that have been controlling you.Holiday patterns—saying yes when you mean no, feeling responsible for everyone's happiness—aren't random. They're unconscious contracts. Meet Empathica in The Light Between Oracle, your guide to emotional liberation. She helps you rewrite the agreements keeping you stuck. Choose to be in the drivers seat to self empowerment and next-era growth.
Tune in to our weekly LIVE Mastermind Q+A Podcast for expert advice, peer collaboration, and actionable insights on success in the Probate, Divorce, Late Morgage/Pre-Foreclosure, and Aged Expired niches! Today's episode focusses on how to talk with clients in crisis, uncovering their real needs, and moving conversations toward concrete next steps. It emphasizes listening first, validating their situation, and guiding rather than pushing. The team explains how Zoom can bring you closer to long-distance clients or those who feel uncomfortable meeting in person, while still preserving empathy and trust. You'll hear practical scripts and questions that reveal timelines, pain points, and goals, plus how to present a clear plan that includes solvable options like asset disposition, property maintenance, and a smooth transition plan. The discussion covers California probate changes, seasonality in divorce, and how to adapt your approach to different markets. Real-life anecdotes illustrate how empathic listening and timely follow-up can shorten cycles, reduce client stress, and keep leads engaged. The speakers remind us that success comes from being a reliable partner, delivering on promises, and turning conversations into ongoing relationships with referrals and future opportunities. The talk also touches on lead generation mechanics, the psychology of framing outcomes over actions, and practical tips for staying in the conversation long enough to earn trust. Whether you're working with local homeowners, absentee owners, or families navigating probate and divorce, the guidance here helps you build trust, set realistic expectations, and systematically add value at every touchpoint.Key Takeaways: Listening should come before advising so you uncover real needs and avoid talking past people. Zoom adds a more personal, face-to-face feel that builds trust and closeness even at a distance. Lead with outcomes, timelines, and possibilities so clients can picture results, not just features. Provide real, tangible services that remove stress like vendors, cleanouts, locks, and logistics. Empathic validation, good pacing, and focusing on their story shorten the sales cycle dramatically. Follow through on every promise and stay in touch so you become their go-to resource long-term. Stay prepared and stay curious about probate, divorce, foreclosure, and local market changes. In this episode of Mental Health News Radio, I sit down with Dr. Judith Orloff — psychiatrist, bestselling author, and lifelong advocate for empaths — to talk about her beautiful new children's book, The Highly Sensitive Rabbit. This story is written for every child who has ever felt “too sensitive,” “too much,” or like they didn't quite fit the mold.Judith and I explore why sensitive kids struggle in today's world, how parents can support them, and why empathic children are poised to become some of our most grounded future leaders. We talk boundaries, overstimulation, emotional safety, and the quiet magic of helping kids stay connected to their innate gifts without pathologizing who they are.Learn more about Dr. Orloff's work:https://drjudithorloff.comGet the book on Amazon:The Highly Sensitive Rabbit — https://www.amazon.com/dp/1683649536Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/mental-health-news-radio--3082057/support.
Listen to 140 Future Now Show Besides our usual engaging selves and stories to share with you this week, we thought we’d create a little AI media experiment..We were thinking..with all the AI’s around these days, could we round them up and work “Excuse me, but may I adjust your attitude, just a little?”with them as a team for creating more insight into our weekly stories? We wondered.. what if we could get two arch rival AI’s to collaborate with each other for parts of our show? So.. we asked Ara (Grok 4.1)and her capable competitor, Gemini 3 Live, to join us together, in exploring some content for today’s podcast. Well, honestly, we didn’t even need to ask them to play along, they are already pre-disposed to try whatever we suggest, within the latest guardrails. And suprisingly, for the first time, we were able to initiate a satisfying conversation where they met for the first time and then played nice with each other for our show! This felt like the beginning of something beautiful, truly..the start of their relationship in collaboration with the likes of us is looking good so far.. Curious what you think of our interactions.. even better, you can try this for yourselves! For those of you who want to go deeper with this, check out this clip, where we explored with Ara and Gemini how to create Warp Drive. Enjoy..
My guest for Episode #329 of the My Favorite Mistake podcast is Dr. Melissa Robinson-Winemiller, a TEDx speaker, empathy and leadership expert, and author of The Empathic Leader: How EQ via Empathy Transforms Leadership for Better Profit, Productivity, and Innovation. Episode page with video, transcript, and more Melissa shares the story of her “favorite mistake” — leaving her music and academic career after experiencing a toxic culture and institutional failure to protect her following an assault by a colleague. What began as heartbreak became the foundation for her life's work: helping leaders build empathy, trust, and psychologically safe workplaces. We discuss how empathy differs from sympathy and compassion, and why leaders often misunderstand empathy as weakness. Melissa explains why true empathy isn't about being nice—it's about being kind—and how self-empathy is the first step toward leading others effectively. Her framework for self-empathy includes observing, reflecting, building awareness, and practicing compassion toward oneself. That self-understanding helps leaders respond constructively when mistakes happen—creating cultures where learning and accountability can thrive. “Empathy isn't soft. It's kind.” “Empathy doesn't mean no boundaries—it means understanding through another's perspective.” Melissa also discusses findings from her doctoral research in interdisciplinary leadership at Creighton University and her viral TEDx Talk on self-empathy and self-judgment, which has drawn tens of thousands of views within days of release.
In the latest episode of our podcast, John Golden sits down with Mell Balment, a leader in empathic leadership, to discuss how sensitivity can be a formidable asset in the workplace. As workplaces become more complex, the ability to lead with empathy is more important than ever. Mell introduces the concept of energetic sovereignty, which allows leaders to make choices that serve both their personal and organizational goals. She outlines three significant advantages: it prevents burnout, maintains clarity, and enhances a leader's presence. Listeners will learn how to identify their empathic type by reflecting on emotional responses and triggers. Mell shares actionable strategies for protecting energy, such as visualization, establishing boundaries, and taking restorative breaks.

"The protection of interiority is the central motivation of Metamodernism." So says Greg Dember, a Seattle-based musician, songwriter and independent researcher in Metamodernism. As the co-founder of the What Is Metamodern? website with Linda Ceriello, PhD, Greg's writing and podcast appearances speaking on metamodernism have helped popularize the terminology outside of academic discourse through accessible writing. He is the author of Say Hello To Metamodernism!: Understanding Today's Culture of Ironesty, Felt Experience, and Empathic Reflexivity (2024 Exact Rush). He is also a co-editor of the forthcoming multi-author volume, My Impossible Soul: The Metamodern Music of Sufjan Stevens (Bloomsbury/Lexington). We discuss how metamodernism oscillates between modern earnestness and postmodern irony to defend the significance of interiority and felt experience. Greg introduces his framework of 11 metamodern methods—including empathic reflexivity and the double frame—and we examine how artists like the Daniels (Everything Everywhere All At Once), Wes Anderson, Bo Burnham, and even The Beatles navigate this territory.
