Hello, I'm Lenny Larkin! I run B Side Farm in Oregon and have written a book called Flower Farming for Profit. My focus is on helping flower farmers grow their businesses effectively. I also offer online courses, including a short course called Profitable Flower Farming, which helps people understand the business side of flower farming. Today I'd like to answer your questions on topics ranging from business tactics to planting schedules. Let's begin! What Are Your Thoughts on Pricing Flowers? Pricing can be tricky! Beginners often hesitate to charge more for fear of losing customers or worry about undercutting fellow farmers by pricing too low. A good starting point is researching local prices by visiting other farms or checking wholesaler comparisons for market insights. When selling directly, remember that customers are aware of flower market prices. By staying updated on costs, you can competitively price your products and maintain profitability. How Many Flower Varieties Should New Farmers Grow? As a beginner in flower gardening, start small and simple. Focus on ten to twenty varieties instead of trying to grow everything at once. This way, you can nurture them without feeling overwhelmed. Avoid the common mistake of growing too many types of flowers at once, which can lead to confusion. Instead, experiment with a few different flowers to see which ones thrive and are popular, allowing you to specialize effectively. Where Can I Learn to Design Bouquets? Learning bouquet design is best through hands-on practice, so don't hesitate to experiment! YouTube has great resources with designers like Julio from The Flower Hat and Amy Balsters, who offer tutorials to help you master bouquet design. What About Investing in Perennials and Shrubs? If you're tired of starting seeds and want a change in your routine, consider investing in perennials and shrubs. They add lasting beauty to your farm or garden. Start small, as they can be costly upfront. I once invested $25k in peonies, but most farmers begin with just a hundred plants. You might also grow hydrangeas and spireas, which are both beautiful and popular. How Do I Work on Pricing with Florists? Pricing flowers can be challenging. It's important to discuss requirements and budget constraints with florists. If flower costs exceed their budget, ask about alternative types they might buy. This feedback can help adjust your inventory. Final Thoughts I love being part of this flower-farming community! We're all in this together, and I'm here to help you navigate the challenges of running a flower farm. Please follow me on social media at the links below! Check Jenny's business out here on instagram: https://www.instagram.com/revolve_pr/ This week we have the owner of Revolve Marketing and PR Queen: Jenny Cullen. 20 Years ago this month, back in 2004, Jenny took the brave LEAP from her role as Marketing Manager role at L'Oreal Luxury Division in Dublin and London. Jennys hectic role was to manage premium brands such as Lancôme, Giorgio Armani Cosmetics and Prestige fragrances within the Irish retail landscape working closely with Key Department Stores and Pharmacies nationwide. After much consideration, Jenny set up her marketing, public relations, and digital media agency. It wasn't an easy decision to make and with 2 very young children at the time, it was a very scary but exciting one. She believed that she could do it, she had the drive, passion, and belief. Jenny borrowed a computer from a friend and bought a desk in Woodies for €40.00! She set up her office in the Box room at home – moved the Cot out into another room and Revolve began.. The Name Revolve came about…… Jenny's late mother Shirley came up with the name after quite a lot of hours brainstorming over cups of tea. Jenny discusses the difficulties and achievements of raising children while starting and running a business, being a woman in the business world, how important her lifestyle and wellbeing is to her and the most important piece of advice she's learnt. Her key words are: “Trust your Gut” “Don't Worry” But also Jenny recognises its easier said than done! Its not easy when you are making sure bills, fixed overheads, staff etc are paid. Jenny has surrounded herself with good solid supportive people, her team and advisors are the backbone. Over the past 20 years, Revolve has gained and maintained a long-term premium brand client stable through constant networking, pivoting to industry trends and economic factors and influences whilst selecting brands that were the right fit for Revolve, Jenny and her team.

No wonder it didn't work out! Stepping back and rethinking the process can change it all.Hopes + Dreams + Experience + Knowledge = a smoother and straighter road to success. Dried Flowers = Added Value! My goal was to always sell it all fresh, but, there are always leftovers, right? Why not hang them to air dry and sell them as added-value products? Dried flowers are back in vogue and an excellent cash crop to sell alongside your fresh fall flowers and those holiday-blooming bulb containers. Dried straight bunches, bouquets, and wreaths are all in demand. This episode is an encore presentation of a chat with my friend and student Nicole Pitt of Flower Hill Farm. Nicole farms in Boonville, New York on the land of her childhood (and current) home. A former TV news reporter/anchor, Nicole is now in her fifth year of cut flower production, selling through a CSA, to florists, and at her newly opened nursery. In this interview, we talked about how she got into flowers, the challenges faced as she grows her business, and what the future may hold for Flower Hill Farm. Nicole's story demonstrates how investing in education and applying it to your business's needs as it grows can be the foundation of success. This episode should feel like an old, familiar tune. Kristin starts us off with an old timey love triangle and Brandi covers a family annihilator…? Robert Miller was a celebrated criminal defense attorney in Washington DC. He was buddies with Herbert Hoover and Franklin Roosevelt. He'd been the law partner of vice president Charles Curtis. He even had a nickname! It was: Judge, not guilty. He was pretty content. But his much younger wife, Marguerite, was not. Soon, she and her psychiatrist, Dr. John Lind began having an affair. It didn't take Robert long to decide that he needed to get even. Then Brandi tells us about David Hendricks, who was out of town on a business trip when his wife, Susan, and their three children, Rebekah, Grace and Benjamin were found dead in their home. David quickly emerged as the prime suspect. (Isn't it always the father?) But there wasn't much evidence tying him to the crime. The DA's office moved forward, undeterred. And now for a note about our process. For each episode, Kristin reads a bunch of articles, then spits them back out in her very limited vocabulary. Brandi copies and pastes from the best sources on the web. And sometimes Wikipedia. (No shade, Wikipedia. We love you.) We owe a huge debt of gratitude to the real experts who covered these cases. In this episode, Kristin pulled from: “Deadly love triangle,” by Mara Bovsun for the New York Daily News “Woman testifies husband killed in self defense,” Associated Press, May 24, 1944 “Miller acquitted in killing after hearing wife assailed,” by Jack Doherty for the Daily News, June 1, 1944 “Lawyer's erring wife says Lind extorted $5,000,” The Chicago Tribune, May 24, 1944 “Wife supports husband who killed rival,” Associated Press, May 24, 1944 “Slain doctor altered will for killer's wife,” by George Dixon for the Daily News, February 29, 1944 “Prosecution calls 50 for Miller trial opening Monday,” The Evening Star, May 12, 1944 “Miller jury due to be completed by noon today,” The Evening Star, May 16, 1944 “A kiss but not a happy ending,” the Daily News, February 23, 1944 “Charges capital slayer planted gun,” by George Dixon for the Daily News, February 23, 1944 “Crime: One of the best,” Time Magazine, March 6, 1944 “Miller carried 2 guns before Lind slaying, prosecution charges,” by Norman A. Kahl for the Evening Star, May 16, 1944 “Miller denies he intended to kill Dr. Lind,” by Norman A. Kahl for the Evening Star, May 26, 1944 “Aged lawyer acquitted in murder case,” The Morning Herald, June 1, 1944 “The story of murder on Valentine's 1944 in front of Woodies department store,” The House History Man In this episode, Brandi pulled from: “Guilty or Innocent: The Hendricks Family Murders” by Gina Glaub, The Midwest Crime Files “1983 Bloomington quadruple-homicide remains unsolved” by Samira Kassem, The Argus “Reasonable Doubt: The Hendricks Family Murders by Fiona Guy, crimetraveller.org “David Hendricks” wikipedia.org “Questions and Answers” authorhendricks.com “People v.
