"The Goat Cave" is a BMX based interview podcast with over 100 episodes. Each episode host Cam Galbraith ("HVXGOAT") sits down with guests ranging from local BMX shredders, to some of the most well respected riders in the industry, all with the intentions
Today's guest is most known for his unmatched skill and style when it comes to park riding, his originality is so refreshing in today's age of repetitive trick combos. It's clear he takes a lot of influence from freestyle motocross with his flip combinations, but he also embodies the Midschool era with more simple tricks like tables, turndowns to fakie, and superman over double coping spines. He represents Canadian BMX so well with his positive attitude, and genuine care for the BMX community. There's no doubt in my mind, Carson Donovan will make his mark on the Canadian BMX scene, and put himself in the ranks of Jay Miron, Dave Osato, and Drew Bezanson.Chapters 0:00-Intro, stunt shows,6:34- Swampfest, Darkfest, Freestyle MTB is insane. 17:18- Untied Caveman v3 coming soon, Carsons open mind when it comes to different styles of riding20:48- "What's your dream Swampfest obstacle idea?" and other Swampfest stories, 30:54-Timeless BMX, The Nelson BMX Jams, and the western Canada BMX scene36:18- The death of indoor parks 50:23- The modern park rider vs Carsons style, flip cliff hangers,57:52- Desert skate ranch, riding Pat Casey's house1:05:52- Triple challenge, and Carson's Dream trick1:12:27- Carson's background in motocross and BMX racing 1:18:06- Carson explains the “Hairy Larry”, we talk Dave Osato, and more 1:26:05- Carson's bmx photography, camera talk1:37:03- Jason Enns is one of the best to ever do it1:39:05- What does the Canadian BMX scene do really well? Today we have a very, very, special guest. This has been someone I've wanted to speak with since I started doing the podcast. Our guest today is one of the biggest names in BMX, who has cemented himself a spot among the likes of Jay Miron, Dave Osato, Paul Buchanan, and others as one of the most influential and greatest Canadian BMX riders ever. Over the last 12 years we have seen him put out countless incredible video parts that would continue to push the limits of what is possible on a BMX bike, he is the king of Simple Session with 5 wins under his belt, he has won Toronto BMX jam so many times that people stopped wondering who was gonna be first, and started taking bets on who was taking 2nd place. He is teamed up with some of the most well respected brands and companies in the world like RedBull, Toyota, DK Bikes, and more. His positive attitude is so infectious it's impossible to not be smiling when you're around him. Today's guest is an Australian legend who has been shredding for more than 15 years! In his time as a pro he rode for two of the most badass companies in BMX, Metal Bikes, and BoneDeth. His video parts always featured fast paced, “do or die” clips, heavy bails, and a lot of humour. The fact that he survived one of the worst crashes in all of action spots is unexplainable, we all know the crash I'm talking about. Today's guest has played a huge role in creating a community for the older riders, not only that, but he has been a part of some big brands in the BMX world, such as G-Sport. After years of contests and video parts, he would eventually take an ACL injury that would force him to step back from riding for a while, unfortunately that wouldn't be the only hardship he faced. In his late 30s he would be diagnosed with cancer, and after winning the battle he knew he needed to get back on the bike. Since he started riding again, Neil Waddington has put out a new video part, hosted jams, and started the Ride On facebook group, a place for older riders to get stoked, with over 7000 members.NEW MERCH! https://www.hvxgoat.com/shopWonderland Studios Custom professional tattooing and piercing from Wayne Galbraith and Deacon Matheson.Harvester Bikes The best BMX shop in Canada. In his time riding he has been in countless magazines, rode in many contests, been sponsored by some big brands like DiamondBack and DuFFs footwear, and produced 2 full length DVDs, "Unsung", and "What Next". Just like most of life, you have to take the good with the bad, and he has dealt with some of the hardest things a person can endure, on January 7th, 2003 he would go into a coma after taking a crash while riding the day before. Things didn't get better at first, he would have a heart attack while in his coma which left his brain unresponsive. On January 13th, 2003 at the age of 19, Nik Ford had died…. After 3.5 hours, the nurse came to do her final round with Nik when she noticed a reaction in his pupils, he was alive! and in the fight of his life. 18 years later Nik Ford is here at The Goat Cave to tell us his story and so much more! Todays guest is one of the most important people in the BMX world, and has been a huge part of shaping BMX to the way it has become. He is the founder of one of the biggest brands in BMX, FBM, which would take the world by storm with their hand built in the USA frames and parts. Not only did their products stand out, but their videos were like none other, you knew you were about to see some crazy shit when you put the tape in. Weather it be dudes trying to break glass bottles over they heads, explosions, or Lou Bickle eating light bulbs, one thing was clear, the FBM dudes loved to party. He was also the face of BMX media for so many years. You couldn't watch a Props video without seeing him with the microphone in hand. He was a crucial part of road fools, as he brought the video together by interviewing the riders throughout the trip. Things don't stop there, and in recent years we may have lost FBM, but we have gained his new Coffee brand, Drop In, and also RadShare, a non for profit aimed at keeping the stoke high by giving kids bikes and helmets. He does all this and more from his bus turned home in Richmond VA, the one and only Steve Crandall! I will be a guest on the 9FiveAdventures podcast next month, here's his Instagram! Today's guest is an incredible Filmer, and an even better rider. His eye for style doesn't stop at his clothing, he goes beyond that and brings it to his riding, with his amazing use of spots, and being able to send some of the steepest tooth hangers in the game. Not only is he able to send some of the heaviest moves in BMX in recent years, but he has been behind the lens for some amazing video projects, such as the Vans Shimmer video. After joining the Kink Pro team a few years back, we have all been able to see his true talent, I'm stoked to be sitting down with Calvin Kosovich!Dead Leisurehttps://www.deadleisure.com/Wonderland Studios Custom professional tattooing and piercing from Wayne Galbraith and Deacon Matheson.Harvester Bikes The best BMX shop in Canada. Todays guest is a legend in the BMX world, who is known for his pro career in the 90s, not only that, but he has become a household name known from movies like Paul Blart's Mall cop, and Triple XXX with Vin Diesel. After getting into BMX at the age 12, he would become a member of the BMX Brigade with riders like Dennis McCoy, Shawn Dickson, Jody Johnson, and more. Only a few years would go by and he would find himself as the newest member of the GT team, and a full page ad in BMX Plus. By the year 2000 he had rode In the 1996 closing ceremonies of the Olympics, he had made a name for himself in the biggest contests around the world, and even scored some brand new, never heard rancid music for his run in the year 2000 gravity games! Fast forward 16 years later and he has just come out with Pool Seekers, a show with Boost Mobile that shows Him and his crew going and doing what ever it takes to ride backyard pools. clearly BMX and acting aren't enough for him considering he also is the front man of the band Good Guys in Black, a Comedian, and a podcast host. Today's guest is one of the most widely known film makers in BMX, not only that, but an incredible rider. He is responsible for some of the biggest full lengths that have released over the years, including OnSomeShit's “FOOTBALL”, Volume's “The Finer Things”, and most recently, Ride BMX's “Headlights”. He has even competed as a filmer on Xgames real street alongside DeMarcus Paul. Now let's talk riding, his riding has always been so creative, and has landed him some awesome sponsors over the years, Proper, Volume, and currently repping Sunday! He is always coming up with ideas for tricks that no one could think of, then taking it a step further and thinking of how it will look best on camera. BMX has taken him so far, all with the help of the sprinter van he built into a tiny home on wheels. Im super excited to nerd out on camera's, filming, van life, and so much more with Mike Mastroni! Todays guest is a legend in the BMX world who is responsible for pushing the limits and showing what was possible. It all started in Grants Pass, Oregon all those years ago, where he would leave home at 19 with the idea of traveling and riding in mind, After a few years of riding for Solid bikes, he would be picked up by WeThePeople, he stuck with them for the rest of his BMX career, and even picked up a sponsor with Eclat, a sister company of WeThePeople. He would show the world some of the craziest video parts with huge street clips and an amazing style. you could always expect some heavy clips, with a lot on the line had he bailed. His footage in Ride BMX's Insight stood the test of time and is still crazy almost 15 years later, and his WeThePeople's “Anytime Now” part is no different, filled with incredible clips. After many years of being on top of the game, and a lot of injuries, he decided to step back and focus on other things in his life, like his love of motorcycles and becoming a father, what an honour it is to be ending off 2020 with one of the greats, Chester BlacksmithWonderland Studios Custom professional tattooing and piercing from Wayne Galbraith and Deacon Matheson.Harvester Bikes The best BMX shop in Canada. Todays guest is best known for his love of Pool riding, and after riding his first pool back in 2002, he was hooked. Since then he has rode well over 300 back yard pools, and published a book called “You Wont” a way to document his adventures while riding pools. and most recently put out a micro Documentary called “Pool Service Announcement” that would go on to win awards in the Oregon Film Festival. I think its very clear that Dean Dickinson is the Pool Dad!Wonderland Studios Custom professional tattooing and piercing from Wayne Galbraith and Deacon Matheson.Harvester Bikes The best BMX shop in Canada. Todays guest is a legend in the BMX world, and commonly referred to as the greatest to ever do it, He is known for his incredible all around style, and his ability to make the most difficult tricks look so easy. For over 20 years our guest has shown the world whats possible on a bike, and proved you can do anything if you put your mind to it. He would be one of the first members of Fit when he was picked up in the year 2000, and has been with them since. Theres no doubt in my mind that he pulled a very important part in the way Fit would become over the years. On top of having countless Magazine covers, His video parts have been consistently some of the best in the world, its hard to deny the fact that he played a huge roll in how great videos like Anthem 2, Thats It. And Odysseys Electronical turned out. None of the challenges he faced would compare to what he was up against when on October 5th 2008, when he would take a life threatening crash while trying a trick he had mastered, on jumps he was comfortable with. For the next 3 weeks he would be in a coma, and when he woke up, he was told he will never ride again. Instead of throwing in the towel, he pushed forward and proved to all those doctors that he could get back on the bike, and was grinding handrails by the summer of 2009. Since then he has come back into the spotlight and been able to keep the dream alive. Its in honour to be speaking with the one and only Mike Aitken! Todays guest is a legend in the BMX world, he has been on countless magazine covers, filmed many video parts, and had the most iconic backyard in BMX. Things started out back in 1984 when he got into BMX racing at 7 years old. He would later get into freestyle and have some awesome footage in Ride BMXs “Thunder” Video, including a huge double peg grind down a handrail. In 1998 he would get hooked up with Redline BMX, and would later join the S&M team, where he remains to this day! He was the first person to do the backflip to sprocket stall, and the inventor of the Endo grind, or more commonly referred to as the Beringer grind! He has had video parts in some of the most important videos in BMX, like Criminal Mischief, Sentenced to Life, and Odysseys Electronacal! What an honour it is to be speaking with Matt Beringer!Support the show
Todays guest is a legend in the BMX world, and has been responsible for pushing the limits of BMX over the past 20 years, at the young age of 11 he was already doing backflips at the Crow-Hurst dirt jumps, that footage would be included in Mark Richards Backyard BMX videos. Things didn't slow down from there, in 2005 he was able to get the cover of Dig BMX magazine with an opposite pegs down a huge rail that can be seen in his “Number 10” video part. Only a few years would go by before he was back on the cover of a magazine. This time on Ride UK doing a massive table top out of a 20 foot tall brick quarter pipe for “Reservoir Dogs”, a video detailing the adventure of finding and riding a water reservoir in New Castle. He went on to receive a lifetime achievement award in 2012 from Ride UK and all its readers. In 2013 he continued to push the limits of bmx with quarter master, a contest created by himself with the idea of building a 26 foot tall dirt quarter pipe and brought to life with the help of Redbull. Two more years would go by before we all saw the last cover of Ride UK BMX magazine, this photo captured one of the most important moments in BMX, a picture that showed just how far you can push whats possible, a 22ft gap to a wall into a 8ft wide quarter pipe 32 ft below. If you ask me, thats one “Tall Order”. He did all of this, and more, with one thing in mind, Have Fun.
