Aaron Pott is a true legend in wine country. Starting his career at newton Vineyards in Napa, he left the U.S. for a position as winemaker at Château Troplong-Mondot, a Premier Grand Cru Classé in Saint-Émilion, France. Aaron then moved to Château Troplong- Mondont after a year to become director at Château La Tour Figeac, a Grand Cru Classé located in Saint-Emilion. He spent five years there and, in the process, earned a degree in Viticulture from the Université de Bourgogne in Dijon, France. Aaron eventually returned to Napa and accepted the position of head winemaker in charge of international brands for Beringer before taking over as general manager and winemaker at Quintessa in 2004. After buying a piece of property on Mt. Veeder, Aaron and his wife Claire started Pott Wines, making Zinfandel, Syrah, Cabernet Franc and Grenache. He continues to consult for numerous wineries, when he's not surfing or watching soccer. All the wines are stellar, but that Zinfandel and Cabernet Franc are still on my mind. Lost Literacies: Experiments in the Nineteenth-Century US Comic Strip (Ohio State UP, 2024) is the first full-length study of US comic strips from the period prior to the rise of Sunday newspaper comics. Where current histories assume that nineteenth-century US comics consisted solely of single-panel political cartoons or simple “proto-comics,” Lost Literacies introduces readers to an ambitious group of artists and editors who were intent on experimenting with the storytelling possibilities of the sequential strip, resulting in playful comics whose existence upends prevailing narratives about the evolution of comic strips. Over the course of the nineteenth century, figures such as artist Frank Bellew and editor T. W. Strong introduced sequential comic strips into humor magazines and precursors to graphic novels known as “graphic albums.” These early works reached audiences in the tens of thousands. Their influences ranged from Walt Whitman's poetry to Mark Twain's travel writings to the bawdy stage comedies of the Bowery Theatre. Most importantly, they featured new approaches to graphic storytelling that went far beyond the speech bubbles and panel grids familiar to us today. As readers of Lost Literacies will see, these little-known early US comic strips rival even the most innovative modern comics for their diversity and ambition. Alex Beringer is a professor of English at the University of Montevallo. His research and teaching focuses on nineteenth century American literature, visual culture, and comics. He received his Ph.D. in English in 2011 from the University of Michigan and has held fellowships with the American Antiquarian Society, University of Cambridge and the National Endowment for the Humanities. It's almost summer, which means pool and lake parties, family reunions and picnics, camping, and smoking out the neighborhood with your backyard grilling. It's also time to dig out your library card, visit your local indie bookstore, and pack your beach bag with books on your “want to read” list.  Today I'm bringing back my friend and book goals hero, Christianne Beringer. First, we are talking about easy appetizers and sides delicious enough for sharing, like creamy red pepper dip, Southwest dip with pepperoni, BLT dip, Clara's corn, and green beans with lemon and toasted almonds.   Then, Christianne catches us up on (and inspires us with) her reading goals, and she tells us about new authors and book series she's been enjoying, including the one she likes so much she starting checking out two at a time from the library.   We also talk about the handy book recommendation and discovery website and app, Goodreads, which we use to keep track of books we want to read, books we've read, and to browse what's on our friends' bookshelves as well.    So if you are someone who likes simple recipes and celebrates the joy of finishing a good book, this episode is for you!   I posted the five recipes that Christianne shares on my website randomsweets.com. Nancy Volpe Beringer made history as the oldest designer to ever appear on the hit show Project Runway. At 64, she made it to the finale at New York Fashion Week, using her talent and can-do attitude to promote more sustainability and inclusivity in the fashion industry. You're in a wheelchair? No problem. A prosthetic leg? Nancy's got an idea to make your outfit glamorous and runway-ready. She eventually created “The Vault by Volpe Beringer”—the world's first and only fully accessible designer luxury platform, offering adaptable options and complimentary consultations for the disabled community. Nancy won the 2022 Fashion Group International (FGI) Rising Star award. She was named “Best in Philly Fashion Designer for Artsy Dresses” by Philadelphia Magazine for her viral red-carpet design for Grammy nominee and rapper Tierra Whack. This incredible journey almost didn't happen. At age 50, Nancy already had a successful career and financial security, but she was miserable. Sure, she'd grown up sewing, but she never dared to dream of becoming a fashion designer. Then, one day, BAM! It all became so clear. Despite the fear of starting over so late in the game, she went for it! No regrets, Nancy. If fashion is your thing, you'll love this episode. But hell, if you like the movie Rocky, you'll enjoy it, too. Like the Italian Stallion, Nancy is a gritty underdog from the mean streets of Philadelphia. She's never climbed into a boxing ring with Mr. T, as far as I know, but she is definitely a fighter. So, put up your dukes, turn up your volume, and get ready to be inspired. 00:00-Fresh Starts & Accolades 03:09-Inclusive Representation 08:27-Displaced, but not discouraged  12:33-Another Word for Retirement 16:07-I Just Want to Make a Difference 20:27-Tierra Whack at the Grammys 24:17-Make Fear Your Friend 33:18-Working with Legends 35:21-Core Pursuits Learn more about your ad choices. Mirriad Advertising PLC (AIM:MIRI, OTCQX:MMDDF) CEO Stephan Beringer speaks to Thomas Warner from Proactive after the virtual product placement and in-content advertising pioneers announced the signing of an agreement with a top three entertainment network in the US. Beringer starts by explaining the unique nature of the business, discussing how traditional advertising, characterised by interruptive ads during video content, is losing its effectiveness. He highlights the rise of streaming services, where ads are minimal or non-existent, posing challenges for content creators and advertisers in monetising and reaching mass audiences. Mirriad's innovative solution involves virtual product placement, seamlessly integrating brands into the content itself, enhancing viewer experience without interruptions. Beringer also emphasises the customisable nature of their advertising technique. This approach allows different viewers to see different products within the same content, based on their location or profile, a significant leap from traditional product placement. This strategy aligns more with media buying, offering advertisers immediate, audience-specific impressions. Discussing the company's strategic pivot to the U.S., Beringer explained its importance, given the massive advertising market size and the potential for scaling advertising innovations from the U.S. He notes Mirriad's progress in the U.S., saying that he sees the company as carrying "huge momentum" at the moment. #Mirriad #StephanBeringer #AdvertisingInnovation #VirtualProductPlacement #StreamingServices #ProgrammaticAdvertising #MediaIndustry #AdvertisingTrends #DigitalMarketing #ContentMonetization #AdTech #MarketingStrategy #FutureOfAdvertising #MediaBuying #TargetedAdvertising #BrandIntegration #StreamingAds #USMarket #AdIndustry #InnovativeAdvertising #ProactiveInvestors #advertising #invest #investing #investment #investor #stockmarket #stocks #stock #stockmarketnews

He is a graduate of Brown University (Ivy League) in literature and of Southern Methodist University MBA in the United States and, earlier, of the Institut Franco-Americain (School Year Abroad) in Rennes, France. Sinkoff entered the wine trade as a retail clerk working for the prestigious Morrell & Company in New York in 1978. After that, in 1979, he was recruited and hired by the great Alexis Lichine to work at this estate in Bordeaux, Chateau Prieure-Lichine, as his assistant and editor for his books. When Sinkoff returned to the United States in 1980 he was recruited by Glazer's Distributors to build a wine department for the distributor based in Dallas, Texas. Sinkoff worked as Fine Wine Director for Glazer's from 1980 – 1990 and built the company, which had almost now wines in its portfolio, into one of the largest wine distributors in the United States. Brands Sinkoff brought to Glazer's included Guigal, Duboeuf, a wide portfolio of Bordeaux wines, Iron Horse and Beringer from California. In 1990, Sinkoff left Glazer's to become managing partner of Val d'Orbieu Wines, the US subsidiary of a large French winery. There Sinkoff created the brands Reserve St. Martin and La Cuvee Mythique which still exist today. In 1996, Val d'Orbieu Wines became the property of Martin Sinkoff and the company was renamed Martin Sinkoff Wines, Inc. which still operates to this day… Find out more: Website: www.sinkoff.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/mjsinkoff/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/mjsinkoff More about the host Steve Raye: Steve Raye of Bevology Inc originally joined our weekly lineup with narrations from his book “How to get US Market Ready” - but everyone just loved him so much, we brought him back with this series of interviews that informs and inspires!
