What if the most meaningful romantic or sexual connection you could have… was with yourself? In this episode of The StickyBeak, Mon explores the identity of autosexuality and autoromanticism — where a person's primary experience of attraction and intimacy is self-directed.You'll hear from Ghia Vitale, who identifies as both autosexual and autoromantic, as she shares what this identity means to her, what self-romance actually looks like, and the common misconceptions she faces. This isn't about narcissism, ego, or rejecting others. It's about discovering new ways to understand love, connection, and identity — in a world that often tells us there's only one way to be.Whether you've heard of autosexuality before or this is your first time encountering it — this episode is a gentle, thoughtful invitation to look inward.Autosexuality 101: http://www.quailbellmagazine.com/the-real-20/autosexuality-101-the-autosexual-cheat-sheetA massive thank you to Ghia Vitale.Keep up with her happenings on Instagram @angel0fthe0dd Check out her website: https://angeloftheodd.comQuail Bell Magazine: http://www.quailbellmagazine.comThis episode was brought to you by Tüt, toilet lid stickers to zhuzh up your toot. This week, by listener request from Josh on the Gold Coast, we're diving into the mysterious and often misunderstood world of the Occult. What does that word actually mean? And where does Asetianism—a secretive spiritual path rooted in ancient Egyptian mysticism—fit into it?We speak with Sarah, a dedicated practitioner of Asetianism, who shares how this esoteric tradition has transformed her spiritual life. Far from the fangs and theatrics often associated with modern vampire culture, Asetianism is a serious and disciplined path focused on sacred knowledge, the divine feminine, and ancient spiritual memory.

Today we're revisiting one of the very first episodes of the pod. It's a conversation with the legendary… Hetal Dave! She's India's first and only female sumo wrestler. Absolutely inspiring, she has such an amazing story, there was even a biopic made about her last year. Some stories refuse to fade. They linger in ancient streets, in whispered myths, in the art that surrounds us. This is one of them.In this episode, we uncover the dark and fascinating legend of Testa di Moro, the iconic Sicilian ceramic heads that adorn balconies across the island. There's an hour of the day when cheaters creep in. A place where people go to chase their wildest desires. And an eight-second rule that can totally change the course of someone's life—maybe even end it.Today, we're stepping inside one of Europe's largest brothels with Catherine De Noire—a woman who's seen it all. You might already recognize her from social media, where her posts have gone gangbusters, but now she's pulling back the curtain on what really goes on behind closed doors. We dive into:
For centuries, whispers of Vagina Dentata—the myth of the toothed vagina—have haunted folklore, warning of man-eating wombs and flesh-shredding femmes fatales. But beneath the horror lies something deeper: a story about power, fear, and control. In this episode of The StickyBeak, we rip into the origins of this myth, from ancient cautionary tales to its lasting grip on pop culture. We'll explore its role as both a weapon and a warning, and dissect the hidden messages behind the fangs. So brace yourself—because this one has some serious bite.

In the Victorian era, mourning wasn't just an emotion—it was a lifestyle. Strict rules dictated everything from what you wore to how long you could grieve, and death itself became a booming industry. From black-bordered stationery to post-mortem photography, the Victorians found ways to keep the dead close, even weaving their hair into intricate jewelry. But mourning wasn't just about remembrance—it was a reflection of deep-seated fears, societal expectations, and, in some cases, pure superstition. In this episode, I'm joined by Al, a US-based collector who specializes in Victorian mourning artifacts. Together, we explore the eerie beauty of these relics, the paranoia of being buried alive, and the fascinating ways people tried to reach beyond the grave.A HUGE thanks to Al for taking the time to have a chat. Herpes is one of the most misunderstood and stigmatized STIs, yet in Australia, 1 in 8 sexually active adults has genital herpes— and the actual number is likely much higher. But why does the stigma persist when it's so common? And how can people navigate a diagnosis in a way that feels empowering rather than shameful? This week on The StickyBeak, I sit down with Allie, a herpes coach and founder of Beyond Herpes, to talk about her journey—from receiving her own diagnosis to becoming an advocate for education, empowerment, and destigmatisation. My guest today is Tracey Rhodes, she's a clairvoyant based on the Sunshine Coast. This is a conversation from about 4 years ago, I met her at the Eumundi Markets. At the time, this was during “deep” covid, I was doing a series about death and dying. I'd speak with people from different movements and religions about what they believed happened when you die. Anyway I got chatting with Tracey and she had this beautiful way of looking at it. It is a bit of a chaotic conversation, it's such a huge topic and Tracey has so much experience so we just kind of went with the flow, and there's some special moments I'd forgotten about when I was re-editing it, so you really are in for a treat. I'm sure you've seen plenty of movies, TV shows or ads featuring animals – whether it's a show based on one, like Babe or even if they're just in the background – like a dog on the street. Did you know there needs to be at least one animal trainer present on set? My guest today is Jet Shaw, and she does exactly that. She's also an internationally acclaimed animal behaviourist and educator. She's worked on some of the biggest movies, like Avatar, and has a career spanning over 3 decades.I'm very aware when it comes to animals and the ethics of them working in show biz, it can be a really complicated topic. It definitely is for me. But what I wanted to explore in this episode was the basics about the actual experience, so we don't go too far into the politics. It's a really important conversation, and I think it deserves an entire episode of it's own. So who knows, maybe one day. What I will say is this… Jet is SO passionate about what she does. Her love for animals is undeniable, and as you'll soon hear, she's incredibly strict about the high standard she keeps to ensure the well-being of her animals on and off set. She's also really funny… You're going to hear about how Jet became a trainer, how it all works as well as some pretty special moments - you might even recognise a couple of the stars she's worked with. Today we're turning the clock back to the Industrial Revolution, a time when the world was changing at a breakneck pace, and with it, the way people lived and worked. In this episode, we're exploring the curious yet almost forgotten profession of... the knocker-upper—a job that was essential in waking up an entire nation, long before the invention of alarm clocks.Get in touch if you'd like to suggest an idea for an episode or just to say G'day

Mermaids have captivated human imagination for millennia. These mysterious beings, half-human and half-fish, have appeared in the myths and legends of cultures around the world, from the ancient seas of Mesopotamia to the icy waters of the North Atlantic. But where did these stories come from? What inspired our ancestors to create such enchanting and sometimes terrifying beings? This week we're looking back at the grim origins of one of history's most infamous instruments: the guillotine.Get in touch if you'd like to suggest an idea for an episode or just to say G'day
You might recognise his name, Oberon Zell. I've had him on the pod before, he's incredibly interesting. He identities as many things, including as an artist, author and a teacher. He's also a wizard and is the headmaster of The School of Wizardry. On top of all of this he's also the Founder and First Primate of the Church of worlds… Aaand he's polyamorous. In fact his life-mate, Morning Glory actually coined the term Polyamory!Genuinely this is one of my favourite conversations. Our chat was recorded about three years ago in the midst of a global covid lockdown. A lot has happened since then, so at the end of this ep I'll pop back in and give you a bit of an update on Oberon. For now though, please enjoy my conversation with the wonderful Oberon Zell. I've got a bit of an interesting one for you today. I'm speaking with Adam from Grave Line tours in LA.We do go into lots of detail in the ep but basically it's a murder tour. And it's one of those things which I feel a bit weird about… But a the same time, I consume true crime content. So it's a bit of a funny one, and we do speak about the ethics of running this sort of business, but I'll tell you what – Adam really knows his stuff, and these tours are more than just gory moments – it's the history of one of the most interesting cities on the planet. Now you've probably already clocked it, we are speaking about some pretty heavy and graphic topics, if you're not feeling up to it, maybe save this episode for another time.I really enjoyed this conversation, and I hope you do to…. Thank you so much for popping by for episode 30 of the series! To celebrate I've got a bit of a risqué one for you today – so if there are little ears hanging about you might want to save this one for a little later or pop on some headphones. So a couple of weeks ago I shared an episode about the furry fandom (if you haven't listened to that one, it's definitely worth checking out), but in today's chat we dig a little deeper… I speak with Rune who is a Scaly – they're also part of the furry community (we do go into what one actually is in this chat), but we also explore the more “mature” side of the subculture. Now this convo was recorded about 3 years ago and at the time Rune was using he/him pronouns, since then they have come out as non-binary. I'll give you a bit more of an update at the end, but for now… strap in… because things are about to get spicy! Enjoy.Get in touch if you'd like to suggest an idea for an episode or just to say G'day
In the spirit of the 2024 Olympic Games we're revisiting a wonderful conversation I had a few years ago for my Living with Mon series. It's a chat with the legendary Luke Reynolds, a professional strongman – this guys is an absolute beast! We caught up at a weird time, it was deep covid, so A LOT has happened since then. I love this conversation and I hope you do too.A massive thank you to Luke for taking the time to have a chinwag. You can find him on Instagram here: @Luke_bluemountain_reynoldsGet in touch if you'd like to suggest an idea for an episode or just to say G'day
Today's episode was requested by the wonderful Emma from Melbourne. She wanted a deep dive into the Bermuda Triangle - and I'm absolutely chuffed about it.I don't think I realised just how mysterious and quite frankly terrifying, the Bermuda Triangle actually is. This episode is pretty spooky, so just a heads up - but I really loved making it, I hope you enjoy it. Thank you so much for the request Emma! If you have an idea for an episode please get in touch, all my contact details are blow.Get in touch if you'd like to suggest an idea for an episode or just to say G'day
Today's episode came to be after a recent trip to Mondello, Sicily. We kept seeing these flower pots in the shape of heads - they were everywhere. So I did a bit of Googling and found out these vases originate come from a legend called Testa di Moro – a tale of love, betrayal and revenge. Today's episode is a bit of a blast from the past, it's a chat I had a few years ago with the lovely Haruka – or Haru. It was for a series I did called Living with Mon, a series about people who lead interesting or alternative lifestyles. Furries have always intrigued me, so when I got the opportunity to speak with one… I pounced… There's a lot to the Furry subculture so I actually did two interviews. One with Haru who you'll be hearing from in a moment, she's just part of the furry fandom. The other conversation I had was with a “Scalie” known as Rune. Scalies are also part of the Furry community but in this conversation we explored the more “mature” side of the subculture. After this episode I definitely recommend checking it out, you can listen here. Going back to today's episode - We cover a lot, and I definitely urge you to go into this with an open mind. There are a number of common misconceptions about the scene, and we're going to de-bunk a few of them. As always I'll check back in at the end, for now though - enjoy.A big thank you to our guest HaruTWITTER (X): @PuppyHarukaCheck out Haru's Twitch account hereWatch, The Fandom: A Furry Documentary hereGet in touch if you'd like to suggest an idea for an episode or just to say G'day
Quick disclaimer - as this episode does touch on some tricky topics about death, mental health and violence, if you're not feeling it – maybe save this one for another time and check out last week's special Pride episode. This week, after a few “lighter” episodes we're going spooky again… you are in for a treat because we're going to hear from the delightful Nicole, or Cole Amber as she's known on Insta. She's many many things including a Paranormal Researcher, Urban Legends & Folklore enthusiast and a lover of Memento Mori – she's ALSO a Dark Tourist which I though was a cool title (hence the name of this ep). She's amazing - so knowledgeable and passionate about what she does, and although she often delves in the darker side of life, she makes it really positive – which I think is such a gift. Also we did have some tech issues – I'm not convinced it wasn't paranormal activity – so some of the audio is a bit funky BUT it's not like that the whole way through – so apologies, it is SO worth a listen.Follow Nicole here...INSTAGRAM: @ahauntedhistory_TIKTOK: @ahauntedhistoryGet in touch if you'd like to suggest an idea for an episode or just to say G'day
Hello and welcome to the With Mon podcast - as promised, we are covering all things.. Pride.Due to a delayed flight last week – we are EXTENDING Pride month, I want to keep these festivities going. So today I thought it was the perfect opportunity to look at the origins of Pride, as well as some perhaps lesser-known facts about the community. We're also going to delve into Queer culture and hear from some absolute legends. And it doesn't matter if you're queer or identify as straight, whatever - this episode is all about celebration, resilience and coming together in all our different forms. Also, I don't want to toot my own horn but it's really interesting. So without further ado – let's dive on in…Check out Queer artist Eureka's work below
