Today's show explores an interesting facet of coaching as we welcome a coach who focuses on the release of trauma and tension that build up in our bodies. Join us to learn more!Amanda Duarte (PCC, NBC-HWC) is a somatic coach who specializes in the field of emotional regulation. With a deep care for the mind-body connection, she empowers individuals to cultivate emotional well-being and navigate life's challenges with greater ease. Gary and Frank catch up and discuss a couple of recent theatrical viewings. First off, we get an inside look at Frank's eastern European trip which took him away from Booth One for a couple of episodes. He tells of his experiences in Warsaw, Krakow, Prague, Vienna and Budapest, how the architecture and city centers have changed, and why Prague is one of the most stunning cities he's ever visited. He is grateful to friend of the show and two-time guest, Stuart Dybek, for his great suggestions for things to do in Prague. He also let us know that Warsaw is booming and beautiful. While on the continent, Frank sampled a Porn Star Martini, ate at iconic local restaurants, and ogled the naked people on building facades in Prague. Other than Vienna, the entire trip was a bargain and the direct flights on LOT between both Warsaw and Budapest & Chicago made travel a breeze. A trip that Frank highly recommends.   The boys visited the Steppenwolf Theatre to view their new main stage show The Roommate, featuring knock-out performances from Ora Jones and Sandra Marquez, both Steppenwolf ensemble members. Written by the up and coming and very talented playwright Jen Silverman and directed by Phylicia Rashad, The Roommate is a comedy/drama centered around two women who become housemates somewhere in Iowa. Gary and Frank share their thoughts and opinions on the play, and suggest that it is perfect summer fare for those seeking a great night out at the theater. The Roommate runs through August 5. We discuss writer-performer Amanda Duarte's Guide to Theater Etiquette. Standing, talking, eating, drinking, clapping and cell phones are among the topics she shares her opinions on in this New York Time Out article. Enjoy. Next up is our take on The Cher Show, which recently had its pre-Broadway tryout here in Chicago at the Oriental Theatre. Containing 35 hit songs and a flurry of thrilling Bob Mackie gowns, this biographical musical gives us three versions of Cher - Babe, Lady and Star - at different points in her life and career. Played by three actresses - Micaela Diamond (in her professional debut), Teal Wicks, and the always amazing Stephanie J. Block - the show is framed as a TV special being made about Cher's life. The three "Chers" interact with each other throughout, even having musical numbers as a trio, something Gary found to be an oddly disconcerting choice by the writers. Nevertheless, the opening night audience was very responsive and cheered wildly at many of the show's high points and at the curtain call. By the way, Jarrod Spector as Sonny is marvelous. Both Frank and Gary feel there is a bit of work to be done by the creative staff prior to the November 1 preview at the Neil Simon Theatre in New York. But they agree that they were highly entertained and that the show has great promise. Especially considering the box office success of the current Summer - The Donna Summer Musical now on Broadway. Kiss of Death: Gillian Lynne - Choreographer of Cats and The Phantom of the Opera The renowned British ballerina who turned choreographer created the sinuous dances in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Cats. Gillian Barbara Pyrke began dancing at an early age and by 15, was dancing at the Ballet Guild, whose artistic director gave her a new surname. She appeared in films, onstage and on television throughout the 1950s, and choreographed The Roar of the Greasepaint - the Smell of the Crowd in 1965 on Broadway. This past June, the New London Theater, where Cats opened in 1981, was renamed for Ms. Lynne. She was carried to the stage on a golden throne surrounded by dancers from the musical. Gillian Lynne was 92. Read the full NYT obit here.

In contemporary U.S. politics, anger is a potent force that cements new communities even as it fractures others. In this presentation. Dr. Griffin looks at social media content that circulated during and after the 2016 U.S. Presidential election in order to parse out the relationships it forges between gender, activism, and political culture online. First, Dr. Hollis examines "Biden memes," which use imagined text and images of former Vice President Biden as a humorous way to express leftist anger. Second, he examines a meme created by writer and performer Amanda Duarte and "Feminist Fight Club" author Jessica Bennett. This meme gives voice to a sex-specific form of anger directed at comments made by then-Presidential candidate Donald Trump on the campaign trail. While both memes feature ideas about anger and gender, their difference in tone - one humorous, one not - suggests different relationships to time. Dr. Griffin's research questions reside in that difference. How do we understand the anger about politics that circulates on social media in relation to cultural mores regarding sex and gender? How does anger operate as a motivating force for activism? How does the intensity of anger relate to the sustainability of active efforts? Finally, what does the circulation of anger on social media tell us about gender and U.S. politics more generally? From the Tuesday Lunch lecture series

TGGC #79: Staying politically connected with Amanda Duarte

Amanda Duarte! Amanda is the creator and host of the monthly show Dead Darlings, in which artists present work they’ve had to cut or abandon, at Judson Memorial Church in New York City. She co-created the meme and movement #PussyGrabsBack, is the co-host of the new Cafe.com podcast Girl Friday, and is a regular at comedy and storytelling events throughout NYC. Amanda and I do a fair bit of ranting about American politics in this episode but we also talk about what she’s learned about the creative process from hosting Dead Darlings, how we can take tangible action towards political change, and turning off the news as an act of self-care.

In Episode 67 of the “High Regard Show,” “Uninspired,” we talk to actor/writer/comedian Becky Yamamoto about season two of her acclaimed web series, "Uninspired," which premieres on Friday, Jan. 13. Becky tells us what it was like filming the first season, what the future holds for the series and what she would be doing if she wasn't a comedian. Funny how her and Tom have the same dream — could there be a partnership in their future? There was also a long-winded story about inappropriate holiday party behavior and a behind-the-scenes look at Nikki's technology struggles, and her struggle is real, folks! In “Roly Poly Roarty,” Tom discusses how his three-months post-op doctors visit went. Spoiler alert: It was way better than expected. We also talk about what's keeping the extra skin tight and the not-so-great customer service of the 5K runners app for iPhone and the Apple Watch. Boy, you guys let him down! Also, we want to give a shoutout to the January installment of #PussyGrabsBack founder Amanda Duarte's "Dead Darlings" salon, which takes place on Wednesday, Jan. 11 at 8 p.m. at Judson Memorial Church at 65 Washington Square South in the Village. This month's theme is, fittingly, "Freedom," and Dylan Marron, Erin Gloria Ryan, Rick Herron and Molly Pope will highlight a piece of their work that died on the cutting room floor. Proceeds benefit the North Carolina NAACP. Comedian Nimesh Patel fills and special guest co-host for our spooky October 2016 edition of We Don't Even Know. How Indian do you believe Shonali and Nimesh are? They wonder if anyone really cares.  Their first guest is comedian, actor, writer and teacher Jeffrey Joseph. What does he not do? We find out why he left a successful career in comedy to destress himself for ten years and what made him come back. Besides performing standup regularly, he teaches playwriting to youth and knows qi gong, a Chinese energy cultivation exercise. He also went to India before Nimesh ever did. What does that say about Nimesh?  Shonali and Jeffrey are chicken pox nose scar twins. Shonali has some frightening news for you.  Sorry to bum you out.  Our second guest is Amanda Duarte, a writer, performer, comedian and is responsible (along with her new friend - NYTimes writer, Jessica Bennet who created the art) for starting the viral sensation #PussyGrabsBack.  Sales proceeds of her PGB shirts on spreadshirt.com go to the Rape and Incest Network.  Amanda is not scared of ghosts, but she does share what she is scared of.  Go see her monthly show Dead Darlings at Judson Memorial Church. Today's #GetItOffYourChest guest is former WDEK episode 13 guest and Shonali's former personal trainer, Reno Villacis. Here from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, our special musical guest is a musician, painter and writer named Tyson Meade.  Tyson and Shonali have infectious laughs that could get on Nimesh' nerves.  Tyson has a similar story to Jeffrey Joseph's, in that he quit music for 10 years and has recently rediscovered himself as a musician.  In his early years as a musician, he influenced artists like Kurt Cobain, Wayne Coyne of the Flaming Lips and Billy Corgan.  In between those years and now, Meade ran a boarding school in China and taught electricians to learn English in Saudi Arabia. He rediscovered music while helping a prodigal violin player student in China.   The end result is a new solo album to be released by him in February, and one released last year titled "Tomorrow In Progress."  Enjoy him hear singing "Tiniest of Guys" and "She's Gone Mad."  Enjoy and next month Christian will return for our November episode.

Just say the word!  You know...Sussudio!  Amanda Duarte (Dead Darlings) is with Sharon this time, showing the guest star chair who's boss.  The two discuss the ubiquity of weed in Brooklyn, and how those who peak in high school should not expect any better.  Multiple kinds of quick deaths are covered as well.  Likewise the faux pas of wearing pantyhose as tights.  Then they wind things up deciding for whom they should each be a backup singer.  (SPOILER: Sharon's headed overnight to Georgia...)
