Dance teacher Star joins Ben this week to discuss rhythm! After Ben wishes everyone happy VD, Star talks about the festival where she is performing in a few weeks. This is not a show about laser tag, so after a brief LARP-er diversion, they drop some sick beats and start the definition portion of the program. Star tells stories about her vast dancing, choreography, teaching, and art school experiences. Ben references a Star Trek: TNG episode involving tap dancing, makes Star watch a ballet scene from the movie Top Secret, and shares information about one of his favorite musical artist's songs.

Featuring: Ammosart, Ashgar, Belghast, Kodra, and Tamrielo This week was one of those shows when I was not entirely certain we had enough material. Yet in spite of that… we once again ran over our intended hour-long recording time. We start off the show with Ash engaging in some Bel-like mechanical nonsense and attempting to repurpose a dedicated dance pad into something more universal. From there we dive into some discussion about what is going on at Twitter this week and how it feels like somewhere between a guild falling apart and the closing of an MMORPG. Kodra talks about Overhaul… which is a roguelike Sudoku. He completely lost Bel when he got to the Sudoku part. From there we dive into a discussion about how weird and frustrating it can be to come back to a game after being gone for a very long time, and how none of them really do a great job of re-onboarding you. Topics Discussed Beethoven Virus Adapting a dedicated dance pad to general purposes Twitter and the Thanos Snap Speedrunning the Death of a Company Feels like playing a dying MMORPG Mastodon doesn't want to be the next Twitter Overhaul The Roguelike Sudoku Returning to Games Games Do a Bad Job of Re-Onboarding Returners

In this very energetic episode, the guys share some amazing music from Rhythm Games! Karl & Will get their groove on to series such as DDR, Beatmania, Parappa the Rapper and many more. Enjoy!
In honor of Konami’s presumed exit from AAA publishing and development, here’s an audio tour through their video game history. Music from Castlevania, Silent Hill, Beatmania, Metal Gear Solid, and more.
The music game genre has been around for almost 30 years, and in this episode we trace the genre from it's birth until today, along with our special guest Tyma. It all started with the NES title Dance Aeorobics and the obscure Famicom Disk System release Otocky, which we take some time to talk about. Following this was a hiatus of a few years before Parappa The Rapper became a huge success when it was released in 1997, and we talk about our memories of playing the game and the waves it made in the videogame press at the time. As Tyma puts it: "Parappa is the music game that every music game strives to be." We also devote some time to talking about Beatmania, an arcade series which has seen yearly releases for almost 20 years and cover some obscure titles like the terrible Stepping Selection for Playstation 2. You'll have to have an absurd love of karaoke to enjoy this particular title. Tyma makes a good argument for why the Game Boy Advance title Rhythm Heaven is the most important game ever made.
