Music expresses that which is inexpressible, or so the saying goes... Yet, in this newest episode, we managed to express so many things about music and its value in human life in the company of none other than Edmond Redd, whom you may know as the author of our Podcast Music.Edmond joins us in an exploration of what goes into creating a great musical composition. In what ways are an author's intention and thinking central to crafting the musical experience? And what role do emotions play and how can one use them to gain more appreciation for music?Edmond Redd is a composer for film, TV, and other media and an educator. His music genre is primarily focused on creating cinematic orchestral music that easily fits in movie trailers and has a flavor of adventure to it. He's always looking to evoke certain emotions and to underline and support the visuals at hand. A firm believer in education, he also teaches audio production, and audio and music composition for video games.Learn more about Edmond's work and listen to his compositions on his website: www.edmondredd.comLearn more about Novel Philosophy Academy and check our educational content on Instagram. Have you ever heard of someone who eagerly began learning to play a musical instrument, excited by the idea of creating music; and before long felt so frustrated and discouraged by the process of translating a page of dots and symbols into meaningful sound that they gave it up and decided they are “just not musical?” Our guest today can relate to that story, and he has dedicated his life to connecting kids – and adults -- to music in a new and powerful way. In another quarantined week, we started this new episode with our recurring music updates bringing the latest on UK's Official Singles Chart and “New Music Friday” recommendations (1:48). Still on the music track, we begin our agenda discussing the latest updates in the music industry, from the economic impact of festivals to ticket sellers (5:40). Thereafter, we move to give you some more updates, but now from the gaming industry, from business decisions to eSports (14:28). Keeping things a little geeky, we talked about San Diego Comic-Con, its cancellation and economic impact (22:58). Finally, we brought you the “All In Challenge,” another movement created to raise funds to help COVID-19 related causes (29:07). However, this one provides some very interesting options. As for our weekly movie recommendation, we brought a 2x1 this week with Sergio and Love Wedding Repeat, both on Netflix (38:27). Back to the R&B territory, we talked about Arin Ray, a young artist from Ohio that is considered by many as next star of the genre (44:00) – @arinraycamp (Instagram & Twitter). This is a material from a conversation I had with the electronic music star deadmau5 around E3, the big game conference. He was in town to check out the conference, but also to perform as part of Subnation Live, a first-ever afterparty for the conference, and part of efforts to bring together music, games, lifestyle and gamer culture .This is a quickie, and I don't have any good audio of my conversation with deadmau5 and his droll and savvy manager, Dean Wilson. But maybe you'll enjoy the story anyway. Check it out. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/davidlbloom/support

Is retro collecting all about reliving your childhood, is it a way to invest in stuff that's going to be worth a fortune down the line or is it hoarding mania? Tyma joins Danny and Stian to tell their stories of retro collecting, battered Nintendo's that still work, the feeling of finding a mint Castlevania Symphony of the Night at a yard sale and how awesome discovering a Legend of Mana US import in a Scandinavian store was before the advent of online shopping. Where is collecting going to be in a future of all digital downloads? Lastly Tyma realises that his passion for collecting music games has been explained in a poop related psychological theory by Sigmund Freud. ALL OUR EPISODES ARE AVAILABLE IN ITUNES! The music game genre has been around for almost 30 years, and in this episode we trace the genre from it's birth until today, along with our special guest Tyma. It all started with the NES title Dance Aeorobics and the obscure Famicom Disk System release Otocky, which we take some time to talk about. Following this was a hiatus of a few years before Parappa The Rapper became a huge success when it was released in 1997, and we talk about our memories of playing the game and the waves it made in the videogame press at the time. As Tyma puts it: "Parappa is the music game that every music game strives to be." We also devote some time to talking about Beatmania, an arcade series which has seen yearly releases for almost 20 years and cover some obscure titles like the terrible Stepping Selection for Playstation 2. You'll have to have an absurd love of karaoke to enjoy this particular title. Tyma makes a good argument for why the Game Boy Advance title Rhythm Heaven is the most important game ever made. In this episode, PB and Jason goes where it's never gone before. Where? You'll have to listen and find out. Oh, yeah. Also, I talk briefly about music games I've played and how they've progressed over time. After that, we all get to hear my raving impressions of Video Games Live! Believe it or not, I was impressed. It's worth tuning in just for that, so download the new issue, and get listening! I know... I gotta believe! Subscribe to Our Feed! Follow me on twitter!
