One of the most cunning and deceptive strategies employed by the enemy is to distort our perception of Jesus. This tactic is insidious because it targets the very relationship we have with Him, a bond that should be characterized by love, trust, and intimacy. An incorrect view of Jesus can have devastating effects, as it undermines our connection with Him in ways that are akin to theft, mortality, and utter destruction. In today's message, Trevor goes into the narrative of Jesus as depicted in John 2. It's a powerful chapter that provides rich insights into who Jesus was and how He interacted with those around Him. By examining this scripture closely, Trevor will extract pertinent lessons that resonate with this week's reading in our Book Club, which features "Beautiful Outlaw.""Beautiful Outlaw," a book that paints a vivid portrait of Jesus, removing the religious varnish to reveal the raw and wonderful truth of His personality, offers a fresh perspective that challenges many preconceived notions. What makes this examination so vital is that it allows us to confront and remove any misconceptions or false images that might cloud our understanding of Christ. As we engage with both the scripture and the book, we're invited to embark on a transformative journey—one that promises to renew our sense of awe and wonder in Jesus. By peeling back the layers of tradition and misinterpretation, we stand to rediscover the Son of God in His truest form: wild, unrestricted, and beautifully outlawed from conventional expectations.
This is a tough episode for me. I have layers and layers of thoughts on this that frankly can't be wrapped up into 20 minutes. But, to any friends who have a hard time on Sundays, especially those of us who have a Christian LDS background, I see you. I struggle too. Here are 3 things that have helped me find a more authentic spiritual connection to my Divine and I hope it might help you too. Remember, it's okay to embrace the jiggle of your personal spirituality. Some times it's really hard, and other times it feels so good! Embrace the up's and downs and find supportive people who will always be in your corner as you navigate your spirituality. And if you want to read a really long, quite aesthetically ugly blog post about one of my most impactful spiritual experiences, read here. Some resources that have helped me in this time: "The Universe Has Your Back" by Gabrielle Bernstein (book) "Beautiful Outlaw" by John Eldredge (book) "Think Like A Monk" by Jay Shetty (book) "Faith Matters" (Podcast) + Lot's of Heavenly Mother resources, music, etc that you can message me on IG about and I'd be happy to share!

Bruce and Justin wrap up their series through the Sermon on the Mount with a discussion about Jesus's declaration about entering the Kingdom of Heaven.Matthew 7:13-2913 “Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy[a] that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. 14 For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few. 15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. 16 You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes or figs from thistles? 17 So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit. 18 A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Thus you will recognize them by their fruits. 21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’ 24 “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. 26 And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.” 28 And when Jesus finished these sayings, the crowds were astonished at his teaching, 29 for he was teaching them as one who had authority, and not as their scribes.Mentioned in this Episode:Road to Emmaus, Jason Upton (song)Beautiful Outlaw, John Eldredge (book)The Chosen (TV series)The Grey Man Podcast, Mike Sian (podcast)The Vox Podcast with Mike Erre (podcast)Neat (documentary)**correction: I said Neat was on Netflix, but it's on Hulu.

Today we discuss our takes on the current reaction to the corona virus, the fear that is so apparent, whether or not this is "The Last Days," and we briefly talk about the book "Beautiful Outlaw" by John Eldredge about Jesus Christ.
An exciting look at the real Jesus - wild, playful and provocative - from bestselling author John Eldredge. Jesus is the most vague, misrepresented figure in the history of the world. Is it possible to know and trust someone so ethereal and lofty? What is he really like? BEAUTIFUL OUTLAW offers a look into the humanity of Jesus, dismantling all the religious nonsense and helping us understand who this man really was - on a personal level. Focusing on his compelling personality, bestselling author John Eldredge shows us the real Jesus - playful, wild, and often scandalous.
Today's summer sermon series features Pastor Edrin Williams, Lead Pastor at Sanctuary Covenant Church in Minneapolis. His sermon "Jesus is Disruptive" is part of an 8 week sermon series entitled "Beautiful Outlaw" based on the book of the same name by John Eldridge. Episode 109 - It’s time to make waves. Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. (Matthew 10:34, NASB)
We've been reading "Beautiful Outlaw" again and it's been surfacing some wonderful things. What is Jesus' personality like? Yes, he is kind and merciful and all those other over-used but totally true things. Is Jesus playful though? And if he is, how does that play out on a personal, relational level? Might we learn something of him that draws us closer in and allows us to see his hand in our daily lives more often?
Beautiful Outlaw series.
As we enter Easter week, John shares thoughts on the playful, disruptive, extravagant personality of Jesus from Scripture and his book Beautiful Outlaw.

Her "interesting word search" stemmed From "How to Write Short": Clark shares the writing short secret of the "effect of a single elegant word- a grace note- in an otherwise straightforward composition." Definition of xenophobe one unduly fearful of what is foreign and especially of people of foreign origin (used in a sentence: America began as a melting pot of immigrants but appears to be turning into a crock pot of xenophobes.) Definition of marginalia: marginal notes or embellishments (as in a book) "Marginalia" was the perfect bow to wrap up their conversation. Leaving margin means we leave room to take notes, to notice, to stop and smell the wildflowers! As always, the hope behind this podcast is that it will encourage, maybe make you laugh, cry, and relate, and then go out and start a conversation of your own with someone from a different generation. We need each other; we have much to glean from one another and we are most definitely #bettertogether!

Craig is on staff with John at Ransomed Heart and a sage in his own right who has much to say about walking with God. This is the first of a two-part conversation where you’ll hear about the essence of John & Craig’s passion for the restoration of the heart, the power of the gospel, and the subsequent freedom that comes from walking with Jesus.
