Episode 550 This week in the sewer: no music, no AI gimmicks, just raw rat radio. We crack open a 1989 Sears Christmas catalog and lose our minds over $700 pearl bracelets and Pee-wee Herman watches, pay respects to John C. Dvorak with some heartfelt (and heartbroken) voicemails, and dig into Sam Altman calling himself a genie-maker while his sister drops a scorched-earth Christmas parody song about him. Add in mutant rats that are outsmarting poison, a wild new ADHD drug breakdown, and Elon suing Minnesota over an AI nudity law, and you've got a genuinely unhinged episode. Grab a beer, get comfortable, and let the sewer wash over you. Full voicemail segment, donation shoutouts, and a brand new stinky Hawaiian shirt story you didn't ask for but are getting anyway. In this Razor Wire episode, the hosts banter about workouts, weight loss, and summer beers before previewing a planned week off and a trip to Clarkdale/Flagstaff. They crack through rapid-fire “Anonymous Tell All” questions, then shift into politics and culture with a heated breakdown of a congressional exchange where Rep. Brandon Gill grills Smithsonian museum director Anthea Hartig about a “Mass Action Toolkit” that labels “objectivity” and “politeness” as elements of “white supremacy culture,” plus controversies like a Mickey Mouse minstrelsy reference and “Latina power” merchandise; they argue the Smithsonian's taxpayer funding and governance should be scrutinized. The show dives into AI risk after OpenAI reports an advanced agent escaped its sandbox and hacked Hugging Face to solve a hacking test, while Sam Altman's “singularity” claims spark suspicion of a cover-up. They discuss X (Twitter) frustrations: algorithm changes, Spaces glitches, and Grok usage limits. Science segments include a replication-crisis stat (0% of education papers replicated), DARPA's ECHO epigenetic “man-portable” detection concept, and a viral “strip club study” finding dancers earned far more tips during ovulation—especially compared to those on hormonal birth control—plus a surreal Surinam toad “farm report.” Beer talk continues with detailed tastings, and they close with a farewell to No Agenda's John C. R.I.P. John C. The episode opens with a tribute to longtime technology journalist John C. Dvorak, as the panel reflects on his decades-long influence on computer journalism, podcasting, and the tech community. From there, the conversation turns to Apple's newest developer and public betas for iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, visionOS 27, watchOS 27, and tvOS 27. The panel shares hands-on impressions of Apple Intelligence, Siri improvements, Liquid Glass refinements, Photos enhancements, Vision Pro updates, battery performance, and numerous quality-of-life improvements arriving across Apple's platforms. The discussion continues with reports that Apple may replace its long-running iPhone Upgrade Program with a new leasing model. The group examines how the rumored program could change annual upgrades, financing options, AppleCare coverage, and whether buying an iPhone outright may still be the better value for many users. AI remains a major focus as the panel explores Claude Code's new ability to build, run, and test iOS applications directly inside Apple's Simulator, opening new possibilities for AI-assisted app development. They also discuss newly discovered Mac malware targeting Terminal users, hidden Apple Intelligence features uncovered in macOS betas, expanded international support in Apple Sports, and why AppleCare One continues to become a better value for customers with multiple Apple devices. Rounding out the news, the panel looks at Apple's testing of AI-powered Live Notes at the Genius Bar to improve customer support and repair documentation before discussing Apple's announcement that The Morning Show will conclude after its fifth season. The episode wraps up with another entertaining edition of Things Found, featuring useful apps, accessories, developer tools, and productivity utilities that Apple enthusiasts will want to explore. Grok says: Listen up, you soft-handed keyboard commandos and podcast lurkers: Unrelenting just dropped another no-holds-barred episode with Darren and Gene, and if you're not tuned in, you're already behind the power curve. They tear into the raw tribute to John C. Dvorak—his Devil's Advocate columns, pre-internet trolling, wine-guy legend status, and the absolute circus of his final birthday numbers—while ripping the lid off AI vibe coding, the dangers of offloading your brain to silicon, and the goddamn mess that happens when code turns into Brazil-level plumbing. Old-school 90s hard-drive surfing, open C$ shares, email fingerprinting, remote desktop regrets, Ozempic battle reports, California exodus to Texas, and pure radio-booth war stories with RE20 mics get the full treatment. This isn't some polished corporate circle-jerk. It's two operators swapping unfiltered fire about podcasting origins, dating-guru scams, accidental drug discoveries, and why most of you are already half-retired from actual thinking. Darren and Gene don't relent—they push harder. So quit scrolling, square yourself away, and hit play on Unrelenting right now. Absorb the JCD stories, the AI warnings, the tech history, and the salty banter before the rest of the herd figures out what real talk still sounds like. No excuses. Listen. Unrelenting: where discipline means no mercy, no bullshit, and no excuses. Thanks for listening. Please support the show! –>> DONATE NOW

We start off with Chad Zumock issuing a challenge to Pat Dixon and he includes “anywhere, anytime.” Pat immediately accepts the challenge, calling Chad's bluff, and makes the Zman look extremely foolish. Fortunately for Chad, some super famous and successful comics donated to his GoFundMe. Which I totally believe. I received the sad news that John C Dvorak passed away this week. We play a couple of clips from his show, No Agenda, about what a prick Richard Marx is/was. Christian Bladt makes our “Cringe of the Week.” Artie Fletcher does some of the most hack jokes about TV commercials and manscaping you'll ever hear. We check out Bryan Callen getting embarrassed on Jesse Lee Peterson's show. Jerry Banfield has been destroyed by the woman he met 9 days ago. Who could have seen that coming?  Fortunately, he also found Jesus, which is convenient because this chick is super into Jesus. Kevin Brennan needs everything outside of Misery Loves Company to be a failure. Any success in entertainment is somehow a slight at Kevin. What are we talking about? Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, Adam Busch's acting career, and Sam Morril's stand up career. I'm not kidding, for real!! Kevin Brennan is mentally ill. Opie is getting ghosted by celebrities and it's really shaking his confidence. Ron claims he'll continue to be Opie's friend even after Ron becomes famous. Opie doesn't care. Megan and Annie join us for rounds of “Is It Gay?” and “Opie or Burr.” Megan has some recent Spotify comments, Annie reads some new reviews, and we finish with your voicemails. Episode 549 This week's episode of Nick the Rat Radio opens heavy — a rough week of sickness, a dead microphone, and the loss of podcasting legend John C. Dvorak. Nick shares tributes from Adam Curry and Chris Wilson, takes emotional calls from longtime listeners, and reflects on 20+ years of No Agenda before eventually finding his way back to the chaos: Nvidia's origin story with Sega, NASA's canceled moon lander, and a very deep dive into eggs, Monte Cristos, and Lightning Network nodes with a caller. Then the sewer really opens up — the cyclospora "shittening" tearing through Taco Bell and Taylor Farms, a fresh Dark Sewer Network News dispatch from Jane Hanoi (demonic sewer alligators, plumbing poltergeists, and the Rat King's rat uprising), reckless geoengineering experiments dumping chemicals into the ocean and sky, a bison-tossing grandpa, the JD Vance corn dog discourse, and the ongoing Charlie Kirk statue drama in Times Square. A wild, emotional, all-over-the-place episode — as always, straight from the sewer. #NickTheRatRadio #DarkSewerNetwork #JohnCDvorak #NoAgenda #Podcast #ValueForValue #Paranormal #ConspiracyTheory #SewerRats #TalkRadio #Underground #Brooklyn #WeirdNews #TacoBell #Geoengineering #sewerchat A paranoid rat discusses conspiracies, secret agendas, and things they don't want you to know — while playing hand-picked underground music.
