Luke 24:13-27 13 That very day two of them were going to a village named Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem, 14 and they were talking with each other about all these things that had happened. 15 While they were talking and discussing together, Jesus himself drew near and went with them. 16 But their eyes were kept from recognizing him. 17 And he said to them, “What is this conversation that you are holding with each other as you walk?” And they stood still, looking sad. 18 Then one of them, named Cleopas, answered him, “Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?” 19 And he said to them, “What things?” And they said to him, “Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, a man who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, 20 and how our chief priests and rulers delivered him up to be condemned to death, and crucified him. 21 But we had hoped that he was the one to redeem Israel. Yes, and besides all this, it is now the third day since these things happened. 22 Moreover, some women of our company amazed us. They were at the tomb early in the morning, 23 and when they did not find his body, they came back saying that they had even seen a vision of angels, who said that he was alive. 24 Some of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but him they did not see.” 25 And he said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory?” 27 And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself. God's call of Abram sets the mold for the entire Bible: One man is chosen in order to bless the whole world. This blessing doesn't just save individuals; it builds a flourishing society. And Abram's participation in the blessing is entirely free, yet it costs him everything.

(I encourage you to grab your teen or graduated daughters to listen in!) This is the second episode that we are talking about that season when our daughters have graduated, but aren't yet married. Johanna, our 19-year-old, graduated in 2019 and chose not to go to college. She is joining me for both episodes to share her story and what she has learned. Our family has never been ashamed of the fact that we highly value the role of being wives and moms because God clearly does. We believe that God has placed that nurturing nature into women intentionally and that it is a great gift. It's also in our nature to want to be loved by a man. There is nothing wrong with that, but how do we honor those desires in our daughters while encouraging them to be fruitful during this season of being unmarried. Once they have graduated, then what? Does God have a plan and a purpose for that season? How does the church view unmarried women? How does the culture view unmarried women? Is being unmarried a gift or an affliction?  Johanna also has a podcast for young girls that she co-hosts with Julia, my daughter-in-law, called Jules and Jo so if you have daughters, please go check it out! https://open.spotify.com/show/5bUzn8arfTumoFE7QswakM?si=1ed41bcca523409f Resources: A good study Bible (One of our favorites is the New Living Translation Illustrated Study Bible. Many are first attracted to Christianity because of its simple message. Later, when one reads the whole Bible, that simple message becomes lost in the 66 books with its diverse authors, times, places and subject matters. It doesn't help when scholars seem motivated to highlight the diversities at the expense of what holds the Bible together. Does anything hold the Bible together? Today's book confidently answers "Yes!"

Created To Shine, Celebrating The Love of Christ in Everyday Life!

Why do we often accept fear instead of rejecting it? Do you know that fear not is written 365 times in the Bible? One for every day. If it is written about this much we should focus on no fear rather than worry. It is common for us to accept fear rather than reject it. Now, some fears are healthy. They protect us. The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. It is when our fears stop us from obeying God and knowing him better that we must reject it. Don’t let the excuses of fear stop us from growing closer to Jesus. Can I ask you to help out with the show? It's a very special video episode of Black Mass Appeal, the podcast that brings modern Satanism to the masses! In this episode, we celebrate the third anniversary of the podcast with something different: a trivia game! Simone Lasher runs three rounds of Satanic trivia, as cohosts Daniel Walker and Tabitha Slander take on teams of listener contestants. Be sure to watch the video version of the show on our YouTube channel! Praise, condemnation, questions, and your team's answers can be sent to blackmassappealpod@gmail.com.   TRIVIA QUESTIONS! (Scroll down for answers at the bottom of the page.) ROUND ONE: SATAN In Dante’s Inferno, who was Satan munching on in the icy Ninth Circle? (Three points) In the book of Revelation, how many heads does the “the beast from the sea” have? How many crowns? (Two points) Most folks know the “number of the beast” in Revelation is 666. What’s the alternative number that is sometimes given as the “number of the beast”? What person is this number thought to represent? (Two points) In the Book of Job, God issued two conditions before allowing Satan to fuck with Job. What were they, in order? (Two points) In Paradise Lost, Book 1, Satan is the first character to speak. Who answers him (and is the second character to speak)? (One point) Embarrassingly few women have played the devil in film. Name one. (One point) A mosaic in the Basilica of Sant'Apollinare Nuovo in Ravenna, Italy, is thought to be the first depiction of Satan in art. What’s unusual about this Satan? (One point) How many times is the name “Lucifer” mentioned in the Bible? (One point) Name the actor who played Black Phillip (in human form) in the movie The Witch. (One point) Name the goat who played Black Phillip (in goat form) in the movie The Witch. (One point)   ROUND TWO: SATANISM Name Anton LaVey’s three children. (Three points) TST’s Baphomet statue was designed for installation at what state capitol… and was later used at a protest at what other state capitol? (Two points) In 1975, Michael Aquino left the Church of Satan and performed a ritual where Satan revealed to Aquino his true name. What was it? (One point) The United Aspects of Satan follows the “Baphomet Principle.” What is it? (One point) What sect of Satanism, founded in 2009, is known for their “11 Neoteric Guidelines”? (One point) What is the sixth tenet of the Satanic Temple? (One point) Jex Blackmore, former spokesperson for the Satanic Temple, is now an independent activist and artist. What was the name of her 2019 art exhibit in Chicago? (One point) The United Aspects of Satan’s holidays are feasts celebrating certain “aspects” of Satan. The feast that aligns with the winter solstice in December is the feast of whom? (One point) What was the last book written by Anton LaVey, which was released the year following his death? (One point) Why does the Order of Nine Angles suck? In this episode, Greg Treat examines the uniqueness of the Bible as a book written by over forty human authors but inspired by God. However, he makes it perfectly clear that it is necessary to also understand the undeniable fact that the book is primarily one book written by one author. Can we follow his logic as contradictory? Greg is in perfect sync with the dynamics of a God that can be understood but not comprehended. God is a Trinity, so says Greg, but according to Deuteronomy 1:4, "Hear, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD is one!" There is no contradiction in the Trinity as God is more significant than our pea brains can absorb. Likewise, the Bible is a book written by God, about God, and for His glory. It does not do men well to focus on the human authors and thereby missing the most important of the book - it is written by God. We are further admonished by Greg to not get so caught up with the different cultures, periods, and circumstances of their personal writings and miss again the point that God transcends all of those factors. Furthermore, Paul looks at those who would have us believe that the ultimate dynamic to understand the Scriptures is the human perspective rather than the unchangeableness of God word. God is the same, He does not change, nor lie. Therefore His Word is faithful and exact in every generation and culture. Greg turns his audience to the theme of God that runs all through the scriptures. God is setting up His kingdom, and it is undeniable that no matter who the human author, this unchanging theme remains a constant. It is a beautiful diatribe that is made in this episode as we look at the constant and unchanging theme of Christ that becomes glaringly obvious to all readers who do not deny the divine origin of the scriptures. As we march through the book of Hebrews, we are in awe at the dynamic flow of God apparent hand upon every human author, so that it is clear the He wrote the Bible.

I would like to begin this teaching with some questions. Have you ever kept a secret? Is it okay to keep a secret from others? Do we see secrets in the Bible? We see many episodes in the Bible where secrets are kept. What is the role of secrets in the Bible? One of the greatest secrets in the Bible is the secret that Esther kept from the king. [Esther 2:9-10 RSV] "9 And the maiden pleased him and won his favor; and he quickly provided her with her ointments and her portion of food, and with seven chosen maids from the king's palace, and advanced her and her maids to the best place in the harem. 10 Esther had not made known her people or kindred, for Mor'decai had charged her not to make it known.” It is no surprise that this book is called Megilat Esther, the Scroll of Esther. The heroine of the scroll is Esther whose name is the from the word, Str which means secret. Thus, Megilat Esther is called the Scroll of the Secret or the Scroll of Hidden Things. This focus on secrecy tells us that we need to understand the reason for secrets in the scroll and what messages are being conveyed. The Scroll of Esther is full of secrets. For example, before Esther was elevated to queen, she was told to keep her identity a secret. [Esther 2:10 KJV] "10 Esther had not shewed her people nor her kindred: for Mordecai had charged her that she should not shew [it].” The king is secretive of the identity of whom he intends to honor when he solicits advice from Haman. Haman thought the king wanted to honor him. [Esther 6:6 KJV] "6 So Haman came in. And the king said unto him, What shall be done unto the man whom the king delighteth to honour? Now Haman thought in his heart, To whom would the king delight to do honour more than to myself?” This fascinating scroll is filled with secrets. The Scroll of Esther is a Comedy of Errors. It’s a Game of Thrones. It’s a game of chess. Who is going to give the final Checkmate? Why do you believe in the Bible? One might reply, “I believe in Jesus.” “The evidence surrounding Jesus’s death demonstrates that Jesus rose from the dead.” “The Bible is the most attested book in history.” “The Bible has changed the world for good.” “The Bible is filled with hundreds of fulfilled predictive prophecies.” All of these are excellent replies. The Bible is the effect of a miracle. Forty writers from Moses to John wrote the Bible over 1600 years. As Jesus is infallible so are the words of Jesus’s infallible. Jesus declared, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away” (Matt 24:35). Jesus gave those words to His apostles and promised the Holy Spirit to guide them into all truth. Apostolic writers formed the Christians Scriptures that has been a wonder to the world. There is much more that is amazing about the Bible, and the Christian’s confidence to uphold the unlimited inerrancy of the Bible is compelling. Allow me to elaborate on this concept further using a quote from author Tim Hegg, one of the teachers at Congregation Beit Hallel in Tacoma, WA, as well as a significant contributor of materials for FFOZ. In his excellent work about the Apostle Paul ‘The Letter Writer’, Hegg, in the Prologue, makes this important note regarding the original languages of the Bible: One of the major difficulties we encounter in our discussion of “trust,” “believe,” and “faith/faithful,” is that there is no corresponding verbal form of “faith” in the English language. We have no way of saying that one “faithed” or that someone is “faithing” in God. Yet in both the Hebrew and the Greek the word group expressing the concept of faith also contains a verb built on the same root. To put it simply, noun and verb are cognate. For example, the Hebrew verb [‘aman], “to be supported” from which we derive the verb “to believe,” has the corresponding noun [‘emunah], which means “faith” or “faithful.” Likewise, the Greek verb [pisteuo], “to believe,” has the corresponding noun [pistis], which means “faith” or “faithful.” Unfortunately, many English readers do not realize that “believing,” “having faith,” and “being faithful” all derive from the same word group whether in the Hebrew or the Greek… This has all but been lost on our modern-day religious communities. “Faith” is considered almost exclusively to mean that one is “convinced” of this or that without regard to any outward action. Yet the very words used by the authors of Scripture indicate this was not their meaning. What both the Hebrew and the Greek word groups tell us plainly is that the internal, mental activity of genuine faith always shows itself in outward obedience: “faith” and “faithfulness” are bound together as two sides of the same coin. This division in the Western worldview of the “internal” (which is called “faith”) from the “external” (which is called “faithfulness”) is foreign to the biblical way of looking at things because it is foreign to a Hebrew understanding of “faith/faithfulness.” Since the Bible was written by Hebrews and those who had come to adopt the Hebrew way of looking at the world, it only makes sense that the biblical teaching on “faith” would flow from a Hebraic perspective. That this concept is firmly rooted in the Torah proper is paramount to understanding such writings themselves. Can we expect to find these concepts of “faith” and “trusting faithfulness” working in tandem played out in the writings of the Renewed Covenant as well? You bet! Observe (notice particularly the author’s conclusion in verse 31): 21 - "But now a righteousness from God, apart from [Torah], has been made known, to which the [Torah] and the Prophets testify. 22 - This righteousness from God comes through faith in [Yeshua the Messiah] to all who believe. There is no difference, 23 - for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 - and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by [Yeshua the Messiah]. 25 - God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood. He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished-- 26 - he did it to demonstrate his justice at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in [Yeshua]. 27 - Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded. On what principle? On that of [legalistically] observing the [Torah]? No, but on that of faith. 28 - For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from [legalistically] observing the [Torah]. 29 - Is God the God of Jews only? Is he not the God of Gentiles too? Yes, of Gentiles too, 30 - since there is only one God, who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through that same faith. 31 - Do we, then, nullify the [Torah] by this faith? Not at all! Rather, we uphold the [Torah]." (Romans 3:21-31, NIV)
