From podcast giants like Joe Rogan to Gen-Z YouTubers like Ryan Trahan, many male influencers are talking about faith in public. Multiple polls are also showing a notable increase in churchgoing among young men in the UK, Europe and the USA. A surprising rebirth in the 'manosphere' seems to be underway. Justin speaks with Anthony Bradley, Glen Scrivener and Sarah Coppin on why young men are returning to faith, and hears from Bible Society researcher Rhiannon McAleer about the current 'Quiet Revival' in the UK, especially among young men. But how can the church ensure the new interest among men doesn't come at the expense of women? Theologian Lucy Peppiatt shares her experience of raising boys in the faith, and we hear from Jon Tyson on true masculinity. Former atheist Stu Fhulendorf also shares his surprising rebirth story from successful entrepreneur to recovering alcoholic who found Christ. In recent years, mainline denominations in Wales have faced a continual decline. Meetings have been held to address these losses, focusing on training and retaining clergy, and utilizing church buildings as resources rather than burdens. However, earlier this month, the Bible Society released a report titled ‘The Quiet Revival,' highlighting a surprising trend: many churches in England and Wales are experiencing growth, particularly among Gen Z. This demographic has shown a significant increase in church attendance, suggesting that things may not be as lost as they seem. Our guest today is Owen Cottom. Seven years ago, Owen planted a church in Cardiff, which has grown to over 100 attendees on Sundays, representing more than 15 nations. His church is part of a global group of Charismatic Churches. Building on his success in Cardiff, Owen has helped plant another church in Blaenau Ffestiniog. This year, he published two books: one on pursuing a new day of mission and revival in Wales, and the other a series of prayers to accompany the first book. Owen is also part of 100iCymru (100 for Wales), a collective of church planters with a vision to plant 100 churches in Wales over the next 10 years. In this interview we explore the way resurrection hope has shaped his ministry, what 100iCymru see happening around Wales, and their hopes for the future.

Want to reach out to us? Want to leave a comment or review? Want to give us a suggestion or berate Anthony? Send us a text by clicking this link!Something unexpected is happening in Catholic churches around the world. While mainstream narratives suggest declining religious participation, a quiet revolution is brewing in the most surprising demographic: Gen Z. We're witnessing a remarkable surge in young Catholics embracing traditional liturgical practices, with recent data showing Latin Mass communities growing despite official Vatican restrictions. The Atlantic reports that these communities have been relegated to school gymnasiums and storage rooms, yet continue to attract devoted followers – particularly young ones. Studies show 44% of Latin Mass attendees are under 45, compared to just 20% in regular parishes. This trend isn't limited to America. In the UK, Catholics now outnumber Anglicans two-to-one among Gen Z, part of a pattern observed across all age groups. The Bible Society's research reveals Christianity growing after decades of decline, driven specifically by young adults seeking community, meaning, and connection in an age of social media fragmentation and mental health challenges. What's drawing the younger generation to ancient liturgical forms? For many, it's the reverence, beauty, and historical connection missing in contemporary worship. As one attendee simply put it: "This is a place where we more easily meet God." Others value the ceremonial aspects, Gregorian chant, periods of silence, and emphasis on sacrifice that characterize traditional practices. This phenomenon appears to follow what scholars call the "strict church hypothesis" – religious groups tend to thrive when membership demands commitment and sacrifice. In our increasingly secular world, perhaps the future of faith lies paradoxically in its ancient past. What do you think is driving this traditional religious revival among young people? It's Wednesday, April 9th, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 125 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark and Adam McManus Ugandan Muslim husband kills newly converted Christian wife A Muslim man in Uganda stabbed his wife to death after she converted to Christianity last month. Forty-one-year-old Nasiimu Mirembe was the mother of six children. She put her faith in Christ on March 21st after hearing the Gospel from a friend. On March 23rd, she attended a church service for the first time. Tragically, her husband attacked her on her way home from church. Mirembe's friend told Morning Star News, “Immediately he started slapping his wife. I started screaming and shouting for help. [He] then removed a long knife and started cutting her with it.” She died from her wounds the next day. Psalm 116:15 says, “Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of His saints.” Church attendance up in United Kingdom A new report from the Bible Society found that church attendance is growing in the United Kingdom. Twelve percent of adults in England and Wales attended church at least monthly last year, up from 8% in 2018. Young people, especially young men, are leading the growth. Sixteen percent of 18 to 24-year-olds attend church monthly, up from 4% in 2018. Church attendance by young men grew from 4% to 21% over the same time period. In Titus 2:1, 2, and 6, the Apostle Paul wrote, “Speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine: that the older men be sober, reverent, temperate, sound in faith, in love, in patience. … Likewise, exhort the young men to be sober-minded.” Supreme Court blocks reinstatement of fired federal workers for now In the United States, the Supreme Court on Tuesday blocked an order that the Trump administration rehire 16,000 federal employees who were let go in mass firings aimed at dramatically downsizing the federal government, reports The Associated Press. The justices acted in the administration's emergency appeal of a ruling by a federal judge in California ordering that the probationary employees at six federal agencies be reinstated while a lawsuit plays out because their firings didn't follow federal law. Appearing on NBC News, legal analyst Danny Cevallos spoke to the practical fallout of the Supreme Court decision on the 16,000 federal workers who were let go. CEVALLOS: “When it comes to these probationary workers, functionally, if they're not being reinstated for a certain period of time, they're going to go find other work. So, this is one of those situations where a stay in this case may eventually lead to them just going off and getting other jobs, and they may never return, even if they someday are entitled to return.” President Trump boosts coal production President Donald Trump signed an executive order yesterday to boost coal as an energy source. The order allows some older coal-fired power plants to stay online instead of being retired. This comes as data centers, artificial intelligence, and electric cars increase the demand for electricity in the U.S. The order also removes some restrictions on coal mining and encourages coal leasing on U.S. lands. Georgia passed Religious Freedom Restoration Act Last Friday, Georgia became the 30th state to enact a Religious Freedom Restoration Act. The act protects people from unjust government punishment for living out their faith. Greg Chafuen with Alliance Defending Freedom said, “Our laws should protect the freedom of every person to live and worship according to their faith. This law provides a sensible balancing test for courts to use when reviewing government policies that infringe upon the religious freedom rights of Georgians.” IRS ends investigation into church praying for school board candidate First Liberty Institute announced Monday that the Internal Revenue Service ended its investigation of a church in Florida recently. New Way Church in Palm Coast, Florida came under investigation after praying for a local school board candidate during a service last year. Jeremy Dys with First Liberty Institute said, “We are pleased that the IRS not only closed its investigation, but affirmed that this church's activities of praying for political candidates during its church service do not threaten its tax-exempt status.” Planned Parenthood closes 3 Michigan abortion mills Planned Parenthood of Michigan announced last Wednesday that it will close three locations in the state. Appearing on Fox 2 in Detroit, Michigan Planned Parenthood President Paula Greear was upset. GREEAR: “A lot of people have reached out to me, and they are angry and they are hurt. And you know what? We are too!” The abortion group blamed funding cuts by the Trump administration. GREEAR: “They are trying to do everything to defund Planned Parenthood.” Young pro-lifers have been praying outside one of the abortion mills for years. Kevin Weed, the headmaster for St. Michael High School in Petoskey, Michigan, told CatholicVote, “Many people are attributing the closing to the Trump administration's cutting of funds, which I'm sure makes a big difference. Our students have been praying there, and those prayers have been answered. However that came to be, we're just happy that this facility is closed.” Space flight around Earth's poles And finally, a cryptocurrency billionaire and his crew of three people completed the first space flight around the Earth's poles last week. Chun Wang is a Chinese-born investor of Malta, the island country located in the Mediterranean Sea between Sicily and North Africa. The bitcoin billionaire funded the mission aboard a SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule. The crew launched last Monday and returned Friday. Together, they accomplished the first crewed orbit over the north and south poles. Before the launch, Chun said, “My own journey has been shaped by lifelong curiosity and a fascination with pushing boundaries. As a kid, I used to stare at a blank white space at the bottom of a world map and wonder what's out there. … We hope our mission will further inspire later people to do the same.” Psalm 19:1 says, “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims His handiwork.” Close And that's The Worldview on this Wednesday, April 9th, in the year of our Lord 2025. 00:00 Introduction to Mutuality Matters 00:02 Cultural Background and Personal Story 01:33 Guest Introduction: Mayra Ugalde 03:24 Mayra's Experience with the Bible 07:22 Impact of the Bible on Women's Lives 13:41 Challenges and Misinterpretations 16:40 Mayra's Work and Contributions 21:38 Jesus's View of Women 24:02 Translation vs. Interpretation 43:49 God's Maternal Love 52:11 Conclusion and Resources Speaking as a Christian born, raised and in the Latin culture where she continues to work, Mayra explores the complex influence and tension between Bible translation and culture, including Bible culture. Mayra observes how often culture and church tradition have more influence than one's one reading of Scripture. Mayra briefly explores the history of Christianity in Latin America with the influence of the Catholic church. It wasn't until 1966 that the dominant religion opened opportunities for lay people to read Scripture, on their own. At this time, the British and Foreign Bible Society distributed these throughout Latin America. As people began to read the Bible, they began to change some of their perspectives. Mayra's mother believed her daughters should serve their brothers. Mayra's father treated her brothers as kings. Her father said women should have and raise children. Life's work was defined by gender. Mayra met a man who did not believe girls and women should read the Bible without a man in the room. Reading scripture for herself, Mayra found Sheerah's story (1 Chron. 7:20–24) empowering Though Sheerah's father was disgraced by having a daughter, Scripture notes that her name means “At least one woman”; and this one daughter--Sheerah brought honor to her family and nation by building two large, strategic, and successful cities. While people believe that God's word says negative things about females, if read well, Scripture challenges gender bias by honoring women like Sheerah as strong rescuers. Throughout her career, Mayra noticed how Bible translations and commentaries teams were produced by scholars holding to a single perspective. From this she learned the importance of including scholars that honor the authority of Scripture yet hold diverse perspectives on key issues. Mayra reminds us that the Holy Spirit guides us as we read Scripture. This is especially true and crucial for women who too often are told by pastors what the Scripture says about women. But by reading the text themselves, the Spirit can liberate women from cultural, church and denominational gender bias. Women in the Church have to read the Bible for themselves to hear the Lord speaking to them because the pastors are not God, as Paul said about the people from Berea, in Acts 17:11 “... Day after day they studied the Scriptures to see if these things were true.” It is fascinating how Jesus interpreted Scripture, introducing woman as the “daughter of Abraham” at a time when women were not considered equal heirs with the “sons of Abraham.” Luke's Gospel is very clear about the welcome Jesus gave to women. Mayra discusses the importance of understanding Bible translation as a science. Skilled translators understand Bible culture and realize that Scripture was written by about 40 authors over 1,200 years. In lapses of time like this, there were vast changes in the culture; in languages; and in the people's views. The Bible is a collection of books of many authors from many differing cultures, many of whom did not know each other. It's important to understand the unique culture of each text we read and to understand what is applicable for us today. Consider the story of Vashti (Esther 1.15-20) as it honors how Vashti challenged the cultural expectation that a wife obeys their husband in everything even as he asks her to do something morally reprehensible. Vashti resisted evil. Her expectation was that her husband would behave as Paul notes in Ephesians 5:25-33. When you read the Bible, you need to recognize the historical and cultural context of the text, as every culture upholds good and permits evil. Mayra considers the story of Hagar and Gen 1:26–27 (woman is created in God's image); Gal 3:26–30 that being clothed in Christ is our highest identity regardless of race, class or gender; that Jesus found women who suffered (in Samaria and Syrophoenicia) and he freed and gave women respect, dignity and empowerment. Mayra explored the Motherly Love of God as it heals the church, especially women. God's Motherly Love is noted in: Gen. 3:8–21 when God sewed clothes (like a mother) for Adam and Eve, after they sinned and were naked and afraid. God does not abandon his son and daughter after they sin but sends them his maternal love. God loves us from his depth, from the bottom of his heart. God has maternal love for his creation, and for the human being. In Hosea 11:3–4 Like a mother, God took Israel by the arm and taught them to walk. But they would not admit that I was the one who had healed them. 4 I led them with kindness and with love, not with ropes. I held them close to me; I bent down to feed them. Deut. 32:11 God, like a mother bird, swooping down to catch it's young Isaiah 49:15 God, like a mother, cannot forget the child she bore, fed and nursed with her own body. Even if a mother forgets her child, God cannot not forget God's children. Christmas is the most wonderful time of year, and that usually involves carols, nativities, candlelight services and plenty of tradition. But not everyone is following these well-worn paths this year. Many are exploring creative ways of spreading the Christmas message. In this programme we'll meet Christians and churches who are trying to do something a little different this advent. First up we meet Dai Woolridge, spoken word poet, storyteller, and creative specialist at the Bible Society. It's Friday, November 15th, A.D. 2024. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 125 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Hindus attack Christians in India's Odisha State Christians are facing a surge of attacks in India's Odisha State. The Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party came to power in the state just six months ago. Hindu nationalist groups in the state have disrupted multiple prayer and worship gatherings of Christians recently. They even evicted a pastor and his wife from a church. A local pastor told International Christian Concern, “These incidents cropped up only after the [Bharatiya Janata Party] came to power in Odisha. We know that it will continue in the days ahead. Only God can help us.” 1 Peter 4:12-13 says, “Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ's sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy.” Few Finnish young people believe in God The Church Research Institute released a report on the religiosity of young people in Finland. The study found only 11% of women under 30 believe in the God of Christianity. The younger women were, the less likely they were to believe in God. Meanwhile, 18% of men said they believe in God. And younger men were more likely to believe in God than older men. Hanna Salomäki, Director of The Church Research Institute, noted, “There is a certain degree of strengthening in religiosity – and specifically in interest in Christianity – among young men. But we are not talking about any large scale. … But there is a smaller group who are clearly finding Christianity and committing themselves to it.” Gender gap revealed in presidential election CNN released exit poll data from the 2024 U.S. presidential election. Vice President Kamala Harris led among women by eight percentage points. President-elect Donald Trump led among men by 13 points. While Kamala led among young voters, Trump has gained ground with that demographic over the last three presidential elections. Even 40% of women under 30 voted for Trump. Trump taps Senator Marco Rubio to be Secretary of State On Wednesday, President-elect Donald Trump announced Republican Senator Marco Rubio of Florida is his pick for Secretary of State, reports NBC News. Trump said, “He will be a strong advocate for our nation, a true friend to our allies, and a fearless warrior who will never back down to our adversaries. I look forward to working with Marco to make America, and the world, safe and great again.” Trump nominates RFK Jr as Secretary of Health and Human Services In a post on Truth Social, Trump announced that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. would be his Secretary of Health and Human Services, reports LifeSiteNews.com. He wrote, “For too long, Americans have been crushed by the industrial food complex and drug companies who have engaged in deception, misinformation, and disinformation when it comes to public health. The safety and health of all Americans is the most important role of any Administration, and HHS will play a big role in helping ensure that everybody will be protected from harmful chemicals, pollutants, pesticides, pharmaceutical products, and food additives that have contributed to the overwhelming health crisis in this country. “Mr. Kennedy will restore these agencies to the traditions of gold standard scientific research, and beacons of transparency, to end the chronic disease epidemic, and to make America Great and Healthy Again!” Kennedy, the nephew of the late President John F. Kennedy and the son of the late Attorney General Robert Kennedy, is a longtime environmental and medical activist. He initially attempted to challenge President Joe Biden for the Democratic nomination, switched to an independent bid against both Biden and Trump after months of accusing party leadership of having “rigged” the Democratic primary process against him, and ultimately dropped out and endorsed Trump in August. Oklahoma Superintendent eager to respect religious liberty On Tuesday, Oklahoma's State Superintendent Ryan Walters announced the establishment of the Office of Religious Liberty and Patriotism at the State Department of Education. The office will protect religious freedom for parents, teachers, and students. It will also investigate abuses to individual religious freedom. Walters said, “The radical left never misses a chance to co-opt the teacher unions and their minions to indoctrinate our children against traditional values of faith and family, seeking to attack any display of faith or religion. … In Oklahoma, we are reversing this negative trend and, working with the incoming Trump administration, we are going to aggressively pursue education policies that will improve academic outcomes and give our children a better future.” Psalm 78:1, 4 says, “Give ear, O My people, to My law; incline your ears to the words of My mouth. … We will not hide them from their children, telling to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and His strength and His wonderful works that He has done.” U.S. inflation up The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported inflation rose last month. The consumer price index increased 0.2% on a monthly basis and 2.6% on a yearly basis. This was in line with Wall Street expectations. While inflation is slightly up, it's still significantly down from its 9% high in 2022. Ellen Zentner, chief economic strategist at Morgan Stanley Wealth Management, said, “No surprises from the [Consumer Price Index], so for now the Federal Reserve should be on course to cut rates again in December.” Bible Society: Younger generations more lonely than older ones And finally, the American Bible Society released the latest chapter of its State of the Bible USA report about loneliness. The study found 21% of women experience a high degree of loneliness, while 17% of men experience the same. Younger generations are more lonely than older generations. Only 11% of people who actively engage with Scripture report high loneliness compared to 22% of those who are disengaged with the Bible. Similarly, the more people attend church, the less likely they are to report high loneliness. Close And that's The Worldview on this Friday, November 15th, in the year of our Lord 2024. The Pacific region, has some of the highest rates of gender-based abuse in the world.Far too many women suffer physical and sexual violence at the hands of a family member or a former spouse. But domestic abuse is not just physical. It can come in the form of emotional abuse — like controlling behaviour, isolation, and insults intended to damage a woman's state of mind. This week on Sistas Let's Talk, Natasha Meten speaks to survivor and advocate Alicia Sahib, human rights defender Anne Pakoa and Renata Nataf from the Bible Society of the South Pacific.
The Bible is central to Christian worship and devotion throughout the year. But October is the month when many churches observe Bible Sunday, giving thanks for the Scriptures. This month also sees the publication of a 'Bible for young explorers', with surrounding text written by celebrity and adventurer Bear Grylls, and Cardiff based Andrew Ollerton. But do young people want a Bible? And if so, what kind? Roy Jenkins interviews Andrew Ollerton and others who are involved in helping young people engage with the Bible. We meet Arfon Jones who translated Beibl.net; Dave Kitchen author of 'Bible in Ten'; and Sian Rees the head of The Bible Society in Wales. We also go to Hope Teens youth group in Merthyr Tydfil to find out what the young people themselves make if the new Bible.

Also, Alistair Begg announces his 20-25 retirement. But first, Morningstar Fellowship Church in South Carolina is facing two more lawsuits that are alleging sexual abuse. Two more lawsuits have been filed against MorningStar Fellowship Church in Fort Mill, S.C., and its leaders for not reporting sexual abuse allegations to law enforcement. The producer for today's program is Jeff McIntosh. We get database and other technical support from Stephen DuBarry, Rod Pitzer, and Casey Sudduth. Warren: On today's program, the former president of Bible Society of India has been arrested for financial corruption related to his position at another ministry…raising questions about how he handled finances at the Bible Society. We'll take a look. And, an Illinois pastor has made it his mission to provide his community access to healthy food…by setting up a low-cost grocery store in a food desert. Also, Alistair Begg announces his 20-25 retirement. Natasha: But first, Morningstar Fellowship Church in South Carolina is facing two more lawsuits that are alleging sexual abuse. Warren: Two more lawsuits have been filed against MorningStar Fellowship Church in Fort Mill, S.C., and its leaders for not reporting sexual abuse allegations to law enforcement. A previous lawsuit was filed on August 7 against MorningStar and its leaders alleging that Erickson Lee used his access to children through the church's “Young Special Forces” program to groom and eventually abuse children in the church. Lee was arrested in May on charges of criminal sexual conduct with a minor and on September 5 entered into an offered plea deal to serve nine years in prison, according to Randy Hood, attorney for the plaintiffs. Natasha: What are these new lawsuits? Warren: Two more alleged victims have come forward to seek accountability for their abuse from Morningstar Fellowship Church and its leaders. All of the lawsuits have been filed anonymously by John Doe #1, John Doe #2, and John Doe #3 who are now over age 18, but were 13 years old when the alleged abuse began. Leaders named in the lawsuit include Rick Joyner, David Yarns, and Erickson Lee's father, Douglas Lee, who was the former head of security for the church. “This is about accountability and responsibility,” Hood said. “Churches have to create policies and procedures to protect children. They need to monitor and supervise people who are over children.” Natasha: Because of previous allegations of sexual assault at MorningStar in the early 2000s, the lawsuits claim that Joyner, Yarns, and Lee knew of the risks and had a duty and opportunity to protect vulnerable children from being exploited and abused while participating in the youth programs at MorningStar. Warren: Instead, the lawsuit asserts, the leadership ignored “signs of provision of alcohol and pornography to minors and signs of sexual exploitation or abuse of minors by church staff, members, or volunteers.”

It's Thursday, August 15th, A.D. 2024. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Nigerian Muslims killed 50 Christians Last Thursday, Fulani Muslim herdsmen, alongside a criminal gang, attacked a village in central Nigeria, killing at least 50 Christians. Morning Star News noted that “Christian leaders in Nigeria have said they believe the herdsmen attacks on Christian communities in Nigeria's Middle Belt are inspired by their desire to forcefully take over Christians' lands and impose Islam as the growing desert has made it difficult for them to sustain their herds.” Nigeria is the deadliest place in the world for Christians. 80% of Iranians don't like Islamic government An anonymous internal poll found 80% of people in Iran would prefer a democratic government to the current Islamic regime. Many are also leaving Islam. About 50,000 of Iran's 75,000 mosques have closed. As Islam loses followers in Iran, many are turning to Christianity. An estimated one million Muslims have turned to Jesus. Don Shenk, executive director of The Tide Ministry, told CBN News this is happening across the Muslim world. SHENK: “We get responses from listeners who say, now I understand that God loves me. I always thought that God wanted to punish me. There's an awakening that's taking place across the Muslim world.” Micah 4:2 says, “Many nations shall come and say, ‘Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; He will teach us His ways, and we shall walk in His paths.'” More Americans die of preventable deaths than Australia A new study published in the BMJ Open Journal found life expectancy has increased in English-speaking countries since 1990. The United States had the lowest life expectancy with 76.5 years for men and 81.5 years for women. Australia had the highest life expectancy, leading the U.S. by about five years for men and four years for women. Professor Jessica Ho was a senior researcher for the study. She said of America, “Our younger people die at higher rates from largely preventable causes of death, like drug overdose, car accidents and homicide.” Inflation is slowing Yesterday, the U.S. Labor Department reported inflation is slowing. Consumer prices rose just 0.2% from June to July. Year over year, prices rose 2.9% in July, down from 3% in June. Most of the inflation was due to rising housing costs like rental prices. Economists expect the Federal Reserve will begin cutting interest rates in September if inflation continues to slow. Donald Trump debates Kamala Harris on September 10 ANNOUNCER: “Ladies and gentlemen. Welcome to the main event. Let's get ready to rumble!” On September 10th, Donald Trump will debate Kamala Harris on ABC. Leading up to the November 5th presidential election, the former president said he wants to debate the vice president several more times on other outlets as well. The latest poll average from Real Clear Politics has Trump and Kamala neck and neck with Kamala holding a 1.1% lead. Seven states considering pro-abortion amendments on ballot Voters will not only be choosing a new president in November, they'll also be considering abortion amendments in multiple states. This week, Arizona and Missouri announced they will have amendments on the ballot to make killing unborn babies a constitutional right. Other states that will have abortion amendments on the ballot include Colorado, Florida, Maryland, Nevada, and South Dakota. Multiple states have already passed such amendments like California, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Montana, Ohio, and Vermont. Bible translated for Wayuu people in Columbia And finally, the Bible Society of Colombia recently presented its first complete Bible in the Wayuunaiki language. The translation work took about 13 years. The Wayuu people are one of Colombia's largest indigenous people groups, numbering about 400,000. Five hundred representatives of the community attended the Bible presentation. Alexander Gómez with the Colombian Bible Society said, “It is a great satisfaction for us because we are aware that there are going to be transformations at a personal, community and socio-cultural level. The Wayuu brothers and sisters who hear the word of God in the language of their heart will be left with the love of God.” Isaiah 52:7 says, “How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who proclaims peace, who brings glad tidings of good things, who proclaims salvation, who says to Zion, ‘Your God reigns!'” Close And that's The Worldview in 5 Minutes on this Thursday, August 15th, in the year of our Lord 2024. If you were to rate your current experience reading or listening to the Word of God, how would you fare? If you're like most guys, Bible engagement can be challenging. While some are very disciplined with their time in the Word, others struggle to prioritize and focus. Our most recent Spiritual Health of Men Survey found that you aren't alone. We saw some decline from the previous year in the number of respondents who responded to the question of whether they spend regular time in the Scriptures. So what can you do about it, and how can you get better at spending time daily in the Word? The good news is that there are resources, translations, and organizations to help you. On this month's podcast, we're excited to speak with Duncan Campbell. Duncan is the Vice President of National Programs for the Canadian Bible Society, one of our ministry partners here at Impactus, with a mission to help people hear God speak, in Canada and across the world. He is an author, blogger, visionary, husband, father, grandfather, adventurer, and incorrigibly curious. Today, we'll talk to Duncan about his spiritual journey, the mission and many projects of the Bible Society, and how they can help men engage with the Word. ---------------------------------------------- Website: https://impactus.org/ Check Our Resources for Men: https://impactus.org/resources/ ---------------------------------------------- Follow us on Social Media Facebook Instagram Linkedin Twitter This Is Me TV
It's Wednesday, July 24th, A.D. 2024. This is The World View in 5 Minutes written by Jonathan Clark and heard at www.TheWorldView.com. Filling in for Adam McMannus I'm Ean Leppin. Persecution of Christians in Communist Countries International Christian Concern (ICC) reports that 72 Christians are imprisoned or missing in communist countries. Fifty-two of those Christians are imprisoned in China, Cuba, North Korea, and Vietnam. The remaining 20 are missing across those nations. An ICC staffer in Asia said, “These numbers are daunting yet unsurprising. Communism is just as dangerous and destructive to Christians today as it was in previous generations.” In one case, Chinese authorities arrested a Korean Christian for studying the Bible. Chung Yong Cheol faced deportation to North Korea and then a 10-year sentence in a political prison camp. French Bible Society to Distribute 200,000 Bibles at Olympics The French Bible Society plans to distribute 200,000 New Testaments during the upcoming Summer Olympics in Paris. The special edition will include testimonies from Christian athletes and is being called “More Precious than Gold.” The title is drawn from 1 Peter 1:7 which says, “Their purpose is to prove that your faith is genuine. Even gold, which can be destroyed, is tested by fire; and so your faith, which is much more precious than gold, must also be tested, so that it may endure. Then you will receive praise and glory and honor on the Day when Jesus Christ is revealed.” Subway denies service to Christian for Biblical shirt In the U.S., an outspoken Christian street preacher was denied service at a Subway restaurant in Waunakee, Wisconsin because he was wearing a T-shirt that declared homosexuality a sin and referenced Romans 1, reports The Christian Post. Rich Penkoski, who leads the online ministry Warriors for Christ, said he is considering a lawsuit against Subway after he was recently refused service at one of their locations in Waunakee, Wisconsin. According to the video of the incident that has since racked up millions of views on X, an employee admitted that she was refusing to serve Penkoski for reasons she described as "a personal matter.” Here is audio from a portion of that video… Penkoski, who was traveling with other pastors after preaching outside the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, said he believes the incident at the Subway location shows there is a double standard when it comes to denying service to people who oppose LGBT ideology. Subway's corporate office did not respond to CP's request for comment by time of publication. Send a letter of complaint to Subway's President, John Chidsey, to 1 Corporate Dr, Shelton, CT 06484. You can also email corporate through a link in the transcript of this newcast found at TheWorldView.com Jesus said in John 15:19, “If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.” U.S. Secret Service Director Resigns U.S. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle resigned yesterday. She faced sharp criticism on Monday from Congress after the recent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson told reporters, “It is overdue, she should have done this at least a week ago. I'm happy to see that she has heeded the call of both Republicans and Democrats.” Pat Fallon, a republican that served on the House Committee said this in an interview the Fox News. Pat Fallon: “I'm glad she's resigning. I'm glad she will no longer be the head of the Secret Service. I wish she had been fired, because we need to change the culture of that organization. This was a catastrophic failure to protect the former President and quite frankly also the leading candidate to be the next President” Meanwhile, Trump blamed the Biden administration for the security failure. He wrote on Truth Social, “The Biden/Harris Administration did not properly protect me, and I was forced to take a bullet for Democracy. IT WAS MY GREAT HONOR TO DO SO!” Chick-Fil-A Dethroned as America's Favorite Fast Food Chain For nearly a decade, Chick-Fil-A has been America's favorite fast food restaurant. However, the chain fell to third place this year on USA Today's ranking of fast food restaurants based on votes from readers. The top stop now goes to Del Taco followed in second place by KFC. Del Taco has only 600 locations across 16 states. Despite this, Chick-Fil-A made $21 billion in sales last year, up 14% from the year before. Iowa's Abortion Ban goes into Effect And finally, Iowa's six-week abortion ban will go into effect next Monday. A district court made the ruling yesterday. This came after the state's Supreme Court said in June that there is no constitutional right to abortion. Previously killing unborn babies was legal up to 20 weeks of pregnancy. The new law bans the killing of unborn babies with detectable heartbeats but with some exceptions. Iowa joins over a dozen states to restrict abortion since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022. And that's The World View in 5 Minutes on this Wednesday, July 24, in the year of our Lord 2024. Subscribe by iTunes or email to our unique Christian newscast at www.TheWorldView.com. Al Roxburgh and Jenny Sinclair talk with Martin Robinson, a leading thinker and guide in missional practice and theology. Together they explore what the word “missional” meant for Lesslie Newbigin in contrast to what it is often taken to mean now - a strategy to save the church. Martin explores the impact of modernity and its current unravelling which has brought many, especially the young, to a place of despair and pessimism about the future, relationships, economics and the environment. Yet, through the many church planting stories he is witnessing, he is identifying signs of hope. Martin sees something stirring in those who can come with openness and responsiveness; those who bring a desire for personal encounter with God. Recognising that some institutionalised churches have had a tendency to fossilise the divine, Martin believes we need to recover a culture of expectation - that God is active and at work in our lives.Born of missionary parents in India, Martin returned home to the UK where he grew up in Scotland and then moved to England. After settling in Birmingham, he followed in his father's footsteps in church planting while completing a PhD in history with a focus on Pentecostal movements. He later joined the Bible Society where he was the Director of Mission and Theology. During this time, he worked with Lesslie Newbigin especially in the shaping of conferences (Swanwick, 1992) and the conversations that emerged from that event in terms of the Gospel and our Culture movements. Later, Martin, along with his wife, Lynda, developed and formed ForMission College to equip leaders in the transformation of their communities. Martin is Moderator Emeritus of the Fellowship of Churches of Christ denomination, co-founder of Rowheath Pavilion Church, and co-founder of the Journal of Missional Practice. Currently, Martin works particularly closely in the fields of church planting, and is part of the expert church planting team at Engage West Midlands, working especially among immigrant communities in the UK. He continues to resource the work of missional theology and challenge the churches in this era of vast social transformation. It's Tuesday, May 14th, A.D. 2024,. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Kevin Swanson Myanmar military's martial law forbids church The Myanmar military junta has placed seven townships in the Chin State under martial law, forbidding church gatherings in this Christian-majority area of the country. Military authorities are also requiring pastors to submit lists of church congregants. Pray for persecuted believers in Myanmar. Pakistani court annulled forced marriage of Christian girl to Muslim man Good news! A Pakistani court has annulled a forced marriage of a Christian girl who was abducted on her way home from school in 2019. Reeha Saleem was forced into a marriage by her Muslim abductor. She has forthrightly denied conversion to the Islamic faith, and still holds to the Christian faith, according to Alliance Defending Freedom International, which supported her case. U.K.'s growing Chinese Christian community The Chinese Christian community is the fastest-growing church in the United Kingdom, according to a report published by the Bible Society. The community has grown by 25,000, or 28%, over the last three years, largely driven by immigration from Hong Kong into the United Kingdom. The report stated that these believers have a much higher view of the Bible than other groups. Church of England's plummeting attendance Church of England attendance has fallen to 654,000 as of last year. By these numbers, the Chinese church-attending population makes up a full 15% of the total attendees of the Church of England services. Another survey found that people of color constitute 14% of the United Kingdom's population, and yet they make up 25% of the practicing Christians there. In the words of Psalm 22:27, “All the ends of the world shall remember and turn to the Lord, and all the families of the nations shall worship before You.” Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. affirms abortion on demand Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., the independent candidate for President of the United States, affirmed his stand for abortion. He opposed the reversal of Roe v. Wade, and supported the federal legalization of abortion up to full term. He stated his position last Wednesday on the Sage Steele podcast. Steele asked Kennedy if he preferred leaving abortion “up to the states.” STEELE: “Keeping it as is, with Roe v. Wade having been overturned, and leaving it up to the states to determine if and when a woman can have an abortion?” KENNEDY: “No, I wouldn't leave it to the states.” STEELE: “You wouldn't? Right.” KENNEDY: “We should leave it to the woman. We shouldn't have government involved.” STEELE: “Even if it's full-term?” KENNEDY: “Even if it's full-term.” STEELE: “I know there is no simple answer. As a Catholic, it would be okay to allow a woman to do that.” (inaudible) KENNEDY: “I don't think it's ever okay.” STEELE: “It would be allowed. It would be allowed.” KENNEDY: “I think we have to leave it to the woman, rather than the state.” Subsequently, Kennedy tweeted that he learned that “Sometimes, women abort healthy, viable late-term fetuses. These cases of purely ‘elective' late-term abortion are very upsetting. Once the baby is viable outside the womb, it should have rights and it deserves society's protection. … “I support the emerging consensus that abortion should be unrestricted up until a certain point. I believe that point should be when the baby is viable outside the womb. Therefore, I would allow appropriate restrictions on abortion in the final months of pregnancy.” In recent polls for the 2024 presidential election, Kennedy is holding anywhere from 8-11% of the vote. America's low-level commitment to unborn babies The American electorate's commitment to the pro-life vote is still low. Only 10% of Americans call themselves pro-life AND would avoid voting for a pro-abortion candidate. On the other hand, there are 17% of Americans who call themselves pro-abortion AND would avoid voting for a pro-life candidate, according to a recent Gallup poll. The 2023 poll found that 44% of Americans call themselves pro-life and 52% call themselves pro-abortion. Higher educated people swing pro-abortion in a 66%-29% ratio, while those without a college education swing pro-life in a 54%-41% ratio. Young people, between the ages of 18 and 29, are more in favor of killing babies by a huge 64%-29% ratio. And women also skew pro-abortion in a 55%-41% ratio. Six states encourage gold and silver investments Six states have enacted sound money legislation for those who move their money into gold and silver. So far, Arkansas, Arizona, Utah, Wisconsin, Nebraska, and Kentucky will not charge state income tax on gains realized in gold and silver investments. These states recognize sound money as a means of protecting savings from the ravages of inflation. States considering similar legislation in 2024 include Iowa, Georgia, Oklahoma, Missouri, West Virginia, and Kansas. Gold has increased in value by 30% in two years. By contrast, the official Consumer Price Index for inflation shows a 10% increase over the same two years. 10 states have legalized euthanasia Ten states have legalized physician-assisted suicide in this country thus far. And New York may be the eleventh. The state's House and Senate versions of the bill have 84 sponsors collectively. Sadly, the legislation is reportedly gaining traction. The Medical Society of the State of New York recently reversed its longstanding opposition to the Medical Aid in Dying Act, according to Politico. Since 2002, nine nations in the world have legalized euthanasia, including Netherlands, Belgium, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada. Ivy League's antisemitism might lead to joblessness A recent Forbes survey has identified some resistance on the part of the business world to Ivy League Schools—most likely following the antisemitic activism on these campuses. A third of employers are less likely to hire Ivy League graduates than they were five years ago, and 7% are more likely to hire them. 90% of Fortune 500 companies are “woke” The latest Human Rights Campaign Corporate Equality Index is out. The pro-homosexual/transgender group must be thrilled with the results. The Index monitors corporations turning woke. It turns out that 90% of Fortune 500 companies are “woke” now. And 73% are “super woke.” That's up from 0% in 2002, and 3% in 2009. God has confounded the astronomers And finally, astronomers are confounded with the discovery of a ring of galaxies located 6.9 billion light years from our planet. A presentation on the spectacular ring provided during the 243rd meeting of the American Astronomical Society in January concluded by saying that there is no explanation for this phenomenon “in our current understanding of the universe.” Psalm 33:6 reminds us that, “By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and by the breath of His mouth all their host.” Close And that's The Worldview on this Tuesday, May 14th in the year of our Lord 2024. The Bible's book of Daniel tells us that one day knowledge and innovation will increase exponentially in our world. And it could be surmised that the prophet was looking ahead to our day, but maybe he was looking even further. The technological advances of the 21st century are no secret. In the ancient world, an ocean voyage could take months. Now, a person can have breakfast in New York City and dinner in Paris. Communication is beyond anything our grandparents could have imagined. The number of mobile devices at this moment stands at 7.22 billion, a slightly bigger number than the human population of our planet. There are more than two billion personal computers around the globe. People in Asia can chat in real time with friends in Chicago or anywhere else. Such communication is instant and constant. Consider that as recently as World War II, whole armies could be on the move before the enemy was aware. Travel is easier, too. There's a wonderful story from our friends at Our Daily Bread, in which a teen on a mission trip shared the Gospel with an elderly man in Jamaica. He was disabled, but listened intently when she described new life in Jesus and the hope of a new body in heaven. He asked her, “Will you dance with me up there?” He accepted Christ. Romans 1:16 says, “For I am not ashamed of the Gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes.” We have almost limitless ways to get a Bible into someone's hand. According to The Bible Society, between 1816 and 1975, 2.5 billion Bibles were printed. Many people, of course, still prefer to hold a book and read the printed word, and that method has been responsible for many millions of conversions over the years. It's exciting to think that, now, 100 million Bibles are being printed every year. Technology brings advancement here as well. That remarkable YouVersion Bible App has been installed on 300 million devices around the world. Knowledge is increasing drastically. We have the greatest opportunity in all of history to share the Good News of Jesus with the world. God has given us the means to use technology, prayer, and one-on-one conversations to bring people to Jesus. What will you do with your finite amount of time? It's up to you. Let's pray. Father God, your provision for us is wonderful. You've made it possible for each believer to share their faith with close friends and family, as well as those around the world. Give us a sense of urgency. In Jesus' name, amen.
