In a world where chaos and disorder seem to be on the rise, one thing is clear: the status quo is no longer working. This episode of the Carl Jackson Show delves into the disturbing trend of teen takeovers, where groups of young people, often with a sense of impunity, take over public spaces, causing destruction and violence. Joining Carl Jackson to discuss this issue is Heather McDonald, a renowned expert on politics and culture, and a contributing editor at City Journal. Heather's recent essay, "The Scourge of Teen Takeovers," sheds light on the alarming rise of this phenomenon, which is not only affecting major cities like Chicago and New York, but also has its roots in California. The conversation touches on the performative aspect of these takeovers, where participants seek to go viral on social media, and the excuses made by some to justify this behavior. Heather argues that the mainstream media's explanations for this trend, such as post-COVID loneliness, are not only unfounded but also misleading. As the discussion unfolds, Carl and Heather explore the deeper issues at play, including the breakdown of family structures, the lack of accountability, and the perverse incentives created by some politicians. They also touch on the importance of enforcing the law, holding individuals responsible for their actions, and the need to stop making excuses for bad behavior. The conversation is a thought-provoking exploration of the complexities of this issue and the need for a more nuanced approach. If you're concerned about the state of our society and the future of our children, this episode is a must-listen. What do teens really need to grow into confident, capable adults? In this episode, I sit down with two remarkable young advocates—Rona Majumder and Faris Smith—to explore why today's teens are asking for more autonomy, more trust, and more places where they can simply exist. Together, we unpack the growing conversation around "third spaces," teen gatherings, social media, and what adults often misunderstand about adolescent development. We also discuss why teen "takeovers" are making headlines, how parental anxiety can unintentionally limit healthy growth, and what schools, parents, and policymakers can do to create safer, more supportive environments without over-controlling young people. If you've ever wondered how to better support the teens in your life, this conversation offers thoughtful perspectives you won't want to miss.Episode Highlights[0:00] - Introducing The Seven Principles for Raising a Self-Driven Child Workbook and why putting ideas into practice matters.[1:40] - Meet teen advocates Rona Majumder and Faris Smith and hear why third spaces matter so much to young people.[3:59] - What exactly is a "third space," and why today's teens feel they're disappearing.[10:18] - Why teens crave more independence, trust, and the freedom to simply exist without constant supervision.[15:04] - Navigating the difficult transition as parents gradually hand over responsibility and independence.[21:05] - Teen takeovers: what's really driving them, and why punishment alone won't solve the problem.[23:33] - The role of consumerism, disappearing community spaces, and the need for free places where teens can gather.[26:57] - Rona and Faris share firsthand experiences attending teen gatherings and discuss the social skills young people need to navigate them safely.[33:18] - Social media: connection, FOMO, and whether it has become today's version of a third space.[40:29] - Would teens choose to erase social media if they could? On this week's episode of the AJ Bell Money & Markets podcast, Danni Hewson and Dan Coatsworth assess how Andy Burnham's first few days as UK Prime Minister have been received by markets. They consider what the appointment of John Healey as Chancellor means for defence spending, and the row about how a VAT cut on domestic energy bills will be paid for. There's been some good news on inflation for the new government but it's likely to be short lived, and there's pressure to cut employers' National Insurance for under 25s. Rachel Vahey tackles the popular question: once you retire, do you dip into your ISA or pension first? Danni and Dan discuss why is Primark cutting prices ahead of being spun out of its parent company. James Flintoft, AJ Bell's head of investment solutions, joins Dan to discuss the broader state of markets as the oil price climbs back above $90 dollars a barrel. State Rep. Marcia Morey of Durham County is one of the many experts who've expressed concerns about how the state budget debate played out. While she's happy about raises that some teachers will get, she's concerned about those teachers and state employees who will receive a relative pittance. And as Morey also pointed out to Newline during an extended conversation this past week, there were a lot of other very important (and in some instances deeply concerning) provisions in the budget – some of which have only come to light in recent days as she and other lawmakers and advocates have finally gotten a chance to fully dissect the hurriedly enacted 600-plus page document. In Part Two of our discussion, we examined some other policy matters of importance as the legislature prepares to return to Raleigh in late July, including the recent and troubling spate of late-night teen takeovers in some communities that have raised discussion of issues like curfews and gun regulation, as well as ongoing Republican efforts to further alter state voting laws and election oversight for partisan purposes. Are the kids actually alright? From beach closures to assaults, is it just youth delinquency or is it something deeper? It usually starts with a social media post that results in thousands of teens descending on one spot. And as you might imagine, all those teenagers together tend to result in chaos galore. Ahead of the weekend, police in Syracuse are actively warning parents of a "teen takeover" that's rumored to happen. Inside Sources discusses the dangers of unsupervised teenage hijinks and the potential legal consequences that could follow.

‘Teen takeovers' have become a nuisance in cities like Charlotte and Raleigh, with large groups of teenagers gathering in public spaces, causing disruption and sometimes engaging in destructive behavior. CMPD now recommends a 9 p.m. curfew for all minors. We look at how that curfew would be enforced, what is contributing to the gatherings, and possible solutions for providing safe spaces for minors.

A disturbing new trend is spreading across America: "teen takeovers," where hundreds—and in some cases thousands—of teenagers organize through social media to descend on cities, overwhelm police, and create chaos. In this episode of The Tudor Dixon Podcast, Tudor sits down with Greenville, North Carolina Mayor P.J. Connolly to discuss how his city became one of the latest targets—and the decisive actions local leaders took to stop it. Mayor Connolly explains how TikTok and other social media platforms are fueling these gatherings, why strong leadership and parental accountability matter, and how Greenville's curfew policy dramatically reduced the problem almost overnight. Tudor and Mayor Connolly also discuss the broader cultural questions surrounding parenting, mentorship, law enforcement, faith, and the responsibility communities have in guiding the next generation.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
They locked kids inside for two years. Now the bill is due. Teen takeovers are exploding, Tampa, Detroit, Houston, Milwaukee. 22 arrested at Curtis Hixon Park, some as young as 12. Cities are throwing curfews at the problem. It won't work, because nobody's asking WHY. The Real Story: teen hopelessness up 62%. A generation stripped of school, sports, and structure then handed a phone and an audience. This is the psychology of the mob, the fallout of lockdowns, and the one fix nobody's talking about. We break down the foundational pillars necessary to preserve American freedom, focusing on free-market economics and private property rights. Guest host Kathy Barnett sits in for Dawn Stensland to deliver a powerful message on civic formation and the urgent need to pass American values down to the next generation. We react to the dangerous trend of urban "teen takeovers," detailing how these chaotic events destroy businesses, disrupt communities, and threaten the absolute legitimacy of private property if citizens normalize the lawlessness. The crew welcomes decorated Vietnam veteran and global pastor Bill Devlin, who shares his incredible life journey from being orphaned in New Jersey to surviving a bomb attack in the U.S. Navy. Pastor Devlin discusses his extensive missionary work providing humanitarian aid to persecuted communities in over 16 countries, including Iraq, Nigeria, and Cuba. He notes that despite America's internal political struggles, people living in international refugee camps still see this nation as the ultimate land of the free and home of the brave. We dive deep into how radical socialist agendas seek to expand government control over production, pricing, and distribution to dismantle our shared inheritance. Kathy draws a stark comparison between the current political trajectory of the United States and the social climate in the United Kingdom, warning listeners not to act like a frog in slowly boiling water while radical elements entrench themselves in high places. We wrap up with inspiring calls from listeners reflecting on their profound gratitude for American history and the collective responsibility to defend the nation's true character.

Some mornings you wake up and wonder, "What's going to happen today?" And then there are mornings like this where the answer is apparently: everything. This daily comedy show starts with Lern getting hit by one of the most forbidden questions in human history when someone asks if she's expecting. Spoiler alert: she is not. But it launches an entire conversation about things you should absolutely never say to another person unless your goal is to spend the next month replaying the moment in your head. Then we're celebrating radio legend John Ulett's incredible milestone and somehow transition into discussing giant American flags, free soda refills, toasted ravioli diplomacy, and why Europeans are simultaneously fascinated and terrified by our ability to drive through literally everything. Need a prescription? A cheeseburger? Banking services?
