On this episode of the NHRA Insider podcast powered by Speedmaster, host Brian Lohnes is joined by Jack Beckman the Funny Car winner from the Gerber Collision and Glass Rt 66 Nationals presented by Peak as well as Chicagoland's favorite Top Fuel son, T.J. Zizzo. The two guys take us deep inside a race weekend that will long live in the lore of NHRA history. Incredible weather conditions from high winds to the first actual dust storm in Illinois for 91 years had racers on their toes. The teams that best navigated the conditions won the race and Beckman takes us all on a weekend trip through a topsy-turvy battle he and his team faced. T.J. Zizzo was eliminated in the first round but it's still amazing to hear how his part time team dealt with the wild weather everyone was handed at Rt 66 Raceway. He takes us through their approach, goals, and what they learned. A great show about an exceptional race!

Tonight we're chatting with with Stuart Ortiz, Peter Zizzo and Terri Apple of STRANGE HARVEST: OCCULT MURDER IN THE INLAND EMPIRE. The film is directed & written by Ortiz (Grave Encounters 1 & 2, Extraterrestrial) and follows the trail of some disturbing killings, in a hyper-realistic way, and yet even am angst this very convincing sort of faux Dateline setup, there's the hint of a Lovecraftian tale of cosmic horror. STRANGE HARVEST: OCCULT MURDER IN THE INLAND EMPIRE will make its world premiere at Fantastic Fest 2024 on September 22, 2024 at 11:50 p.m. CT. According to some of San Diego's finest food minds (umm, us), one of the hottest restaurants of 2023 is easily Bird Rock's Paradisaea. The Michelin Guide thinks so, too—it recently gave the restaurant, which opened in late 2022, a special recognition for being pretty damn good (and also new). A year or so is a good length of time for a restaurant to find its groove. Ideally, the service kinks will have been worked out, the menu will have found its footing. Paradisaea's first year also saw the departure of the restaurant's founding chef and culinary director, Mark Welker. Jeff Armstrong stepped in to take his place. Jeff will kick off 2024 with a new menu. We brought Jeff and his boss, Paradisaea's co-owner Zoe Kleinbub, into the studio to talk shop. Zoe is a native of Westchester County, NY. She moved to San Diego—where her husband Eric Kleinbub (also a co-owner) grew up—a handful of years ago. The Kleinbubs met moving around in San Francisco's food circles, and, once they arrived to our sunny shores, it became crystal-clear that they had to open a restaurant here. When an iconic Bird Rock piano store hit the market four years ago, the Kleinbubs instantly moved on it. What followed—the construction and opening process—was an intense labor of love. They tiled the interiors in Josh Herman ceramics and built an expansive open kitchen at the heart of the restaurant's dining room and operations. In this episode, we also talk about Zoe and Jeff's long history working together and how his entry into one of Zoe's kitchens has become a fortuitous union for everyone involved. We each take a few cracks at the restaurant's spelling, which is difficult to nail on the first try, even for a bunch of writers. We also bungle its pronunciation a few times, but by the end, we're flying (we promise), unnatural vowel combos hugging in tow. We also talk about the news: Jasmin and Richard Blais released Plant Forward, a cookbook not totally meatless or dairy-less, but instead centered around de-prioritizing meat on the plate; North Park 's hopeful pop-up success story, Long Story Short, is unfortunately no more after just a month of service; and The Busalacchis are back in Little Italy with Zizzo, an Italian cocktail bar serving pan-Mediterranean food. We also played “Which restaurant in North Park will open first?” which is always a fun and mind-bending exercise. Thanks for tuning into HHH this year. We will see you in 2024!
Typically, our episodes are lighthearted in nature, and they will continue to be going forward. However, this episode deals with some topics that aren't normally discussed on our show. Some topics include extreme heartbreak, loss, alcoholism/addiction, and also contains some strong language. If this offends you in any way, shape, or form, we advise you to skip this episode. There will be times where important topics need to be discussed, but we want to be sensitive to our audience and we don't want to shock you when you are expecting typical lighthearted podcast episodes. Zizzo, a Manhattan native, wields many labels: Musician. New Yorker. Guitarist. Bassist. Pianist. Transgender. But above all, he's a self-taught singer-songwriter with a penchant for pop, and has so much to offer to this world. It's this dynamic combination, these unique puzzle pieces, this gumbo of life experience, heartbreak, and identity, that makes up Ari Zizzo. Ari hails from the Upper East Side of New York City, where his musical parents—his father, a record producer, and his mother an accomplished songwriter—incubated his early enchantment with music. He started piano at age 4, and by 13, he knew he wanted to be an artist. Ari studied music at SUNY Purchase, where he had an objectively normal college experience—playing sports and joining a fraternity—and moved to LA to set up shop as a songwriter. Ari's music is inspired by fierce love, gutting heartbreak, and his own struggle with identity. His greatest strength may be his admirable ability, as an artist, to empathize with and relate to others, no matter how different their experiences might be. “Transitioning for me, when you get down to the nitty gritty stuff, it's obviously very different than someone just growing up,” Ari says. “But in some ways, it was just me trying to find myself and my identity, and so many young people struggle to deal with that in their own ways.” The 24-year old is also heavily inspired by his parents, who he cites as his greatest musical influences, alongside Joni Mitchell, Third Eye Blind, CSNY, John Mayer, and The 1975. Right now, he's gearing up to release brand-new music, which he co-produced in LA with Steve Wilmot (OneRepublic, U2, Ava Max). “I put my heart and soul into this,” Zizzo says. “I just want to share my story.”

Led by co-founders Jeremy Greven and Laura Zizzo, Manifest Climate is a building a climate intelligence platform to help companies better understand, manage, and communicate climate risk. To learn more about the TCFD standards that Manifest Climate looks to broadly implement visit their website. Below are two excerpts from the podcast. Laura highlighted the company's mission and product offerings saying, "Manifest Climate is a climate intelligence platform for business. We help customers translate climate so that they can better understand it, manage it, and disclose it to investors. We help clients communicate climate risk to investors and internally within their companies so they can make decisions that enhance business resiliency. We want to take climate out of the sustainability silo and put it into the organizational framework." Jeremy spoke to the company's evolution saying, "The company and its product offering have evolved with market demands. The company was born out of Mantle 314, a management consultancy company working with big financial institutions globally. It eventually became clear that boardrooms across the world were demonstrating a common need for better information concerning the management of climate. However, the combination of commonality and impact at scale makes this problem uniquely suited for a software solution. Ultimately we are bringing a “SaaS plus” model to the market where we can leverage technology to build upon the experiences and insights of subject matter experts on our team that have over five years of experience working with corporate clients in the climate space. In addition to the technology layer, we can offer a higher-touch service with custom reporting broken down by business lines as well as workshops where management teams can engage with Q&A and get one-on-one time with subject matter experts on our team." --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/entrepreneurs-for-impact/message

It's the first of a two-part World Wide Technology Raceway doubleheader wrap-up episode of the Week In IndyCar Listener Q&A show as we dive into a bunch of questions submitted via social media. A sampling of the items posed this week (Q&A begins at the 8m31s mark in the episode): "Michael Andretti seemed especially mad at Zach Veach after he piled into that race 1 crash. Have you heard anything about Zach's chances of staying at Andretti? If he leaves, who gets that seat? Hinch? Conor Daly? Kevin Magnussen? Scott Tucker?" "I saw that Dave Furst is the new VP Of Communications for IndyCar. This seems to be a bit of a revolving door position with Curt Cavin and Mike Zizzo having the job the past couple of years and Zizzo in the role for a short time. Any insight on this?" "Do you think RHR & Colton Herta are justified in their frustrations with RVK? Is he angering other members of the paddock as well, or just the Andretti Autosport duo?" "It seems like I notice articles on Racer.com reporting NASCAR teams failing post race tech and associated penalties issued at a much higher rate than IndyCar. Any reason to the seemingly perfect tech inspection record by IndyCar teams, is it under-reported or are penalties dished out in a hushed manner? Also, what's the best instance of bending the rules or fooling tech inspectors you ever saw?" In this podcast interview, I spoke with Ryan Zizzo, the Founder and Chief Operating Officer at Mantle, an interdisciplinary climate change consultancy based in Toronto, about the challenges and opportunities for reducing both operating and embodied carbon in new buildings as well his thoughts on climate change adaptation. Ryan is doing some really exciting work in the quantification of carbon and developing strategies to reduce both operating and embodied carbon. I first met Ryan when we were both presenting at a CaGBC Conference some years ago. What impressed me most about Ryan’s presentation was his deep understanding about, not just how to design a sustainable, low-carbon building, but the implications of the life cycle of the building – and this was when life cycle approaches were not widely used. Ryan is also one of the most knowledgeable people about carbon accounting in Canada. He is currently the Chair of the Embodied Carbon Network’s 80+ member Policy Working Group, as well as a member of the Canada Green Building Council’s Zero Carbon Steering Committee. As the Founder and Chief Operating Officer at Mantle, Ryan and Mantle’s team of lawyers, engineers and green finance experts assist public and private sector clients decrease their carbon footprint and devise strategies to transition to a low-carbon and climate-adjusted future. In this episode on Emotional Awareness you will learn a forgiveness technique, how to better respond to challenging situations and ways to orient yourself towards greater happiness with Zizzo. Emotions are defined in this context as an aspect of yourself similar to your physical body. These are indicators to help you know if you are in alignment with your highest good… or not This helps you live a good life. An analogy is that emotions act as a compass like in the game of hot and cold. We talk about the difference types of good feeling. We compare the instant gratification of feeling good versus the loving type. This leads us to discuss payback and revenge in the context of human interactions. Emotions are triggered by your thoughts which means that having more influence and awareness over them will give you freedom. Thought pattern can be locked in you if you can't let go. We explore a scenario in which your neighbor took your land away from you. This is where the role of your thoughts come into play. Your first option towards freedom and personal sovereignty can be to switch from a reaction to a response. Another option is to find a way to release the build up of energy. Zizzo gives you a specific practice of forgiveness which is a powerful act of shifting within yourself to look at life differently. This concept is to face the emotion, acknowledge it and give it space rather than ignoring it. You take a deep breath and observe the emotion happening in you to acknowledge it. Moving towards the positive spectrum of emotions is certainly a possibility for you. One of the fastest ways to change what you feel is with gratitude.
