POPULARITY
The Author Events Series presents Marlene Daut | The First and Last King of Haiti REGISTER In Conversation with Grace Sanders Johnson Slave, revolutionary, traitor, king, and suicide, Henry Christophe was, in his time, popular and famous the world over. Born in 1767 to an enslaved mother on the Caribbean island of Grenada, Christophe first fought to overthrow the British in North America, before helping his fellow enslaved Africans in Saint-Domingue, as Haiti was then called, to gain their freedom from France. Yet in an incredible twist of fate, Christophe ended up fighting with Napoleon's forces against the very enslaved men and women he had once fought alongside. Later, reuniting with those he had betrayed, he offered to lead them and made himself their king. But it all came to a sudden and tragic end when Christophe--after nine years of his rule as King Henry I--shot himself in the heart, some say with a silver bullet. Why did Christophe turn his back on Toussaint Louverture and the very revolution with which his name is so indelibly associated? How did it come to pass that Christophe found himself accused of participating in the plot to assassinate Haiti's first ruler, Dessalines? What caused Haiti to eventually split into two countries, one ruled by Christophe in the north, who made himself king, the other led by President Pétion in the south? The First and Last King of Haiti is a riveting story of not only geopolitical clashes on a grand scale but also of friendship and loyalty, treachery and betrayal, heroism and strife in an era of revolutionary upheaval. Earwiggle welcomes a debut on the label from Brian Gibbs, aka GUNJACK!!! A string of dynamite early releases on Birmingham's Sheep Records and his own Deafmosaic imprint, set this LA producer out from the crowd in the early to mid-'00s, quickly amassing a long list of in-your-face EPs across a range of scene-leading labels. His dark, percussive techno stylings coupled with a larger-than-life character made him one of the community's most colourful personalities, who we've always greatly appreciated. Renewing his deep connection with techno in recent times and following on from a run of high-pressure dub techno offerings via his new label and collective Dubwars, Gunjack supplies us with four crunching club tracks in "Purple Room Trax Volume 1". Here he employs spiralling FM leads on the a-side with “Arson ‘78” and “Plastic Horns” while alternating between the suspenseful sirens of “Stormbells” and swarming, looped up the power of “Liquid Crystals” on the flip. Unlike many one-take live techno recordings, Gunjack's meticulously tweaked style leaves no fat, with a dynamic force that'll send the dancefloor into pandemonium. With an extensive back catalogue behind him techno pioneer D-Knox continues to fire on all cylinders in modern times. His multi decade spanning career has seen him paint a colourful journey behind him, playing an integral part in the history of Techno and the development of its early stages amongst the greats in the US. Raw edge sounds with a killer groove at the heart, meandering between the sounds of Detroit, and the heavier shades of the techno spectrum are what have earned him his reputable status. His DJ sets manoeuvre between similar sounds, dusting off golden era rarities and combining them with productions of today from himself and artists he has met along the way. Growing up in Kalamazoo (Michigan USA) the acclaimed producer soaked up the influences from each and every corner he could. The city sits comfortably between Chicago and Detroit, and this fact has played a huge factor in his dynamic sound and journey as an artist. With two vital homes of house and techno around the corner enabled a young Knox to witness the heyday of this sound as a generation moulded the future of electronic music. His cousin Jay Denham, founder of Black Nation played a key role in this animated quest as the early 90s saw the pair begin to produce, and dig deeper into the legendary scenes they were fortunate enough to be surrounded by. Knox's essential Sonic Mind imprint firmly stands the test of time with the 90s label still growing to this day, playing a key part amongst the record bags of tastemakers throughout the years. Fast forward to today and the label is still providing a safe haven for discerning club sounds and beyond, in a time of over saturation and imitation here we have an artist and label who is always striving to be outside the box, offering something new and interesting at each and every opportunity. Inspired by a generation, and now has the task of sharing his knowledge and positive energy. All of this has laid the foundations for what has been a bright career for D-Knox, his innovative sound always evolving with his timeless productions and story telling trips within the booth are a sure sign he is not slowing down in the years to come; a new mix series on the way, label releases signed off and some fresh merchandise paying homage to his roots Tracklist via -Spotify: bit.ly/SRonSpotify -Reddit: www.reddit.com/r/Slam_Radio/ -Facebook: bit.ly/SlamRadioGroup Archive on Mixcloud: www.mixcloud.com/slam/ Subscribe to our podcast on -iTunes: apple.co/2RQ1xdh -Amazon Music: amzn.to/2RPYnX3 -Google Podcasts: bit.ly/SRGooglePodcasts -Deezer: bit.ly/SlamRadioDeezer Keep up with SLAM: https://fanlink.tv/Slam Keep up with Soma Records: https://linktr.ee/somarecords For syndication or radio queries: harry@somarecords.com & conor@glowcast.co.uk Slam Radio is produced at www.glowcast.co.uk

In which Patrick has a long discussion with David Austin to discuss the re-release of Fear of a Black Nation. "Situating Canada within the Black radical tradition and its Caribbean radical counterpart, Fear of a Black Nation paints a history of Montreal and the Black activists who lived in, sojourned in, or visited the city and agitated for change. Drawing on Saidiya Hartman's conception of slavery's afterlife and what David Austin describes as biosexuality – a deeply embedded fear of Black self-organization and interracial solidarity – Fear of a Black Nation argues that the policing and surveillance of Black lives today is tied to the racial, including sexual, codes and practices and the discipline and punishment associated with slavery." California's official task force on reparations has delivered its final report to the state legislature. The report includes a formula for determining direct financial compensation, along with more than 100 other recommendations, including establishing universal health care, implementing rent caps in historically redlined neighborhoods, and making Election Day a paid holiday. And in their report, the authors spent a significant amount of time explaining why reparations are necessary for the descendants of enslaved Black Americans, and why the government is responsible.Three years ago, host Trymaine Lee spoke about this case for reparations with Nikole Hannah-Jones, creator of the 1619 Project, and now, a journalism professor at Howard University. The conversation came right after Nikole published her article “What is Owed” in her role as a staff writer for the New York Times Magazine. In light of California taking one small step closer toward reparations, we're bringing back that discussion. This podcast was originally published on June 24, 2020. Isaac and Jackson join David Austin, author of Fear of a Black Nation and Dread Poetry and Freedom: Linton Kwesi Johnson and the Unfinished Revolution, for a discussion of the Afro-Caribbean diasporic left, focusing on Montreal in the late 60s. They discuss the influence of the U.S. black power movement on the world, the black left in Montreal, and in particular the confluence between Caribbean nationalism and Quebec nationalism. They discuss the Congress of Black Writers, Walter Rodney's presence in it and how the development of the Afro-caribbean left literature creates a fertile ground for the development of politics.
In February 2022, Into America launched “Reconstructed,” a series about the legacy of Reconstruction. The story begins in the late 1860s, as the newly freed became citizens under the law and Black men gained the right to vote. Black Americans across the South suddenly had the power to exert control over their own lives. In the face of horrific violence from their white neighbors, Black people voted in liberal governments across the South, elevating hundreds of their own to places of political power. Perhaps no one exemplifies this more than the late Congressman Robert Smalls. As his great-great-grandson Michael Boulware Moore tells Trymaine Lee, Smalls' daring escape from slavery and wartime actions made him a hero. Then, like hundreds of newly freed Black Americans, he decided to get involved in politics in his hometown of Beaufort, South Carolina. And more than a century later, we still see the impact of this brief time of Black political power, through people like the current Democratic National Committee chair and South Carolina native Jaime Harrison, who tells Trymaine how today's 20th-Century fight for voting rights is a continuation of the Reconstruction era. Welcome to DRR Podcast 089, for our first episode of the week we welcome Jay Denham, from Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA. Jay Denham is the second generation Detroit techno pioneer - musician, dj artist and producer from Kalamazoo, Michigan - city right in the middle between Chicago and Detroit. His style is a unique blend of these two worlds - Chicago house and Detroit techno, with a Kalamazoo touch. He stays true to the underground, makes the music for the art of it and always remembers where he comes from. In 1992, Jay Denham struck out on his own. He founded Black Nation Records and launched it with his seminal "Birth of a Nation" E.P. (allusion to the infamous and subversive Ku Klux Klan propaganda film of the same title), featuring tracks by Denham himself and as well as his colleagues - Fanon Flowers, Tony Ollie, Brett Dancer, and Chance McDermott. Black Nation's philosophy: driving underground grooves for the funk-conscious record buyer. With the success of Black Nation relentless releases of pure Detroit techno, Jay was able to refine his sound to what he describes as the funky techno sound. "Toussaint," Danny Glover's intended first project as film director, is about Francois Dominique Toussaint Louverture (1704-1803), a former slave and one of the Fathers of Haiti's Independence from France in 1804, making it the first Black Nation in the Americas to throw off imperial rule and become a Republic. In May 2006, the film included had cast members Wesley Snipes, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Roger Guenveur Smith and Mos Def. Production of the cancelled project was estimated to cost $30 million. Thank you Supervoid Cinema for the research and information on what happened and I hope this will spark interest/demand for this important film to be made.

This month, MSNBC's Into America podcast is celebrating Black history through a special series called ‘Reconstructed': a deep dive into the Reconstruction era and how its legacy continues to shape us today. Part one, ‘Birth of a Black Nation,' tells the story of Robert Smalls: born into slavery and later elected to Congress. It's a look at how Black Americans began to gain political power, and how the fight for full access to the franchise continues today. Listen to the full series here.
One question has plagued our nation since its founding: will Black people in America ever experience full citizenship? In searching for an answer, Into America is collaborating with the Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture for a series on the legacy of Reconstruction. We tour the museum's Make Good the Promises exhibit with co-curator Spencer Crew, who helps use artifacts to bring the history of the era to life. Over four episodes, ‘Reconstructed' will explore how after the Civil War, Black Americans gained citizenship and political power, planted roots and formed communities on newly acquired land, and how the newly freed drew on their faith to carry them through violent white backlash. The story begins in the late 1860s, as the newly freed became citizens under the law and Black men gained the right to vote.Black Americans across the South suddenly had the power to exert control over their own lives. In the face of horrific violence from their white neighbors, Black people voted in liberal governments across the South, elevating hundreds of their own to places of political power. Perhaps no one exemplifies this more than the lateCongressman Robert Smalls. Smalls helped found the state'sRepublican Party in 1868 and served in the state legislature, where he crafted laws to create the first free compulsory public school system in the country. In 1874, he was elected to the US House of Representatives, where he remained for five terms. Not long after Smalls left office, much of the progress of Reconstruction had been undone by a combination of white violence, Northern apathy, and severe voting restrictions aimed at Black Americans. And more than a century later, we still see the impact of this brief time of Black political power, through people like the current Democratic National Committee chair and South Carolina native Jaime Harrison, who tells Trymaine how today's 20th-Century fight for voting rights is a continuation of the Reconstruction era. TECH CLUBBERS PODCAST W/ D-KNOX D-Knox ( Donnell Knox ) is a living legend and integral member of Techno's history, delivering funk-laden grooves, deep Detroit and hard-hitting Techno for the past 25+ years. Over that time he has gathered a following for his music both at home in the US, and overseas. Now residing in Warsaw ( Poland ) his sound continues to develop, as his passion never wavers. Knox grew up in Kalamazoo ( Michigan, USA ), a city halfway between Detroit and Chicago, which goes a long way to explain the musical direction he's taken over the years. As a musical youth he learned piano and drums before discovering dance music in the early ‘80s. Spending summer vacations with family in these two cities, he would listen to the Hot Mix radio show while in Chicago and The Wizard ( Jeff Mills ) on WJLB in Detroit, drawing inspiration and knowledge from two places that have been instrumental in House and Techno's history. When his cousin, Jay Denham returned to Kalamazoo in the early ‘90s the two began making tracks together and later Denham introduced him to the likes of Derrick May and other early Detroit producers. After releasing tracks for various key labels, like Elypsia, Morbid, Magic Trax ( run by the influential 90's magazine, Magic Feet ) and Denham's Black Nation, he started his own Sonic Mind imprint, which continues to this day. This week on Voices from the Frontlines... THE TRIO IS BACK; Alan Minsky, Channing Martinez, and Eric Mann speak with Meena Roman from the Third-World Network, about moving forward the Black Nationalist, Third-World Alliance movement. The white-settler state that is the United States that has raped, pillaged, and created what they now call the "third-world" is afraid of being called the genocidal white-settler state that it is. Malcolm X began shifting the base of his leadership position from the Nation of Islam to one that was rooted in Black Nationalism. He understood that religion, at the base of his leadership, couldn't unify the Black nation in the United States, but a Black Nationalist platform could unify the Black Nation. The Pacifica Radio Archives is a massive collection of audio content from voices like Malcolm X, the last recording of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Angela Davis, Fannie Lou Hamer, James Baldwin, W.E.B. DeBois, Lorraine Hansberry, and thousands more. During this episode we are also raising money for the Pacifica Radio Archives to preserve these voices and so many more, which are being obliterated by this white-settler state that under no circumstances wants to be called out for its atrocities and on-going oppression. Call (800)735-0230 and donate $250 to the Pacifica Radio Archives and get the Encyclopedia of Sound; 1600 hours of audio content from the most powerful voices in the world. Jeff Bezos, the homunculus, founded Amazon based on the notion that there was no limit to how fast he could grow if customers never had to pay a sales tax. Our government gave Amazon a special exemption from local sales taxes which means for nearly two decades Amazon was able to undercut ALL of America's book and record stores because books and CDs are far cheaper when there's no sales tax. Naturally, or unnaturally, Amazon turned into a colossus forcing practically all of America's bookstores and record stores out of business. And nobody said anything. Nobody said, “Maybe Main Street USA is an apocalyptic hellscape because City Hall doesn't collect a sales tax, and all our local merchants have to charge a sales tax which means they can't compete with Amazon which doesn't collect a sales tax.” Yes, it's that simple. Amazon got to where it is by not paying taxes. And now we're discovering Jeff Bezos doesn't pay taxes either. New reporting says some years he literally pays ABSOLUTELY NOTHING in taxes. The richest man in the world doesn't pay taxes. And it turns out THAT's why he's the richest man in the world. It's just that simple. Bezos is going into space next month. Let's hope he stays there. Or at the very least let's hope Bezos gets stuck up there for a couple of days so he can discover what it's like pissing into an empty bottle of Gatorade just like everybody who works for him. Jeff Bezos is the personification of evil. And if you fail to understand why then you're part of the problem. 'Tiz good my Black Kingz, Black Queenz, and my people of the kingdom! In the Black Nation, marriage rates and fertility rates are down, and they're still decreasing at this very moment. Women are fighting everyday, more and more, to gain "equality". What are they really after though? Why are there more lonely, single women than ever before? Does the wage gap really exist? Who is going downstairs if someone breaks in the house? Why don't more custodial fathers receive child support? Why aren't women protesting to have more fathers receive custody of the kids? All this and more, let's talk about it. Black Peace, Black Love, Black Soul BLAX Podcast Merch is finally here!! DAY 432: BLACK NAT'L: NO COMPROMISE 4 THE RISE OF OUR BLACK NATION!
In this episode, we uncover the nuances of Black Nationalism. For a long time, creating an independent black nation within America or moving back to Africa has been a hot topic within the civil rights movements. But what does that actually look like? Where would we be able to do that? Is that even legal to do? Today, we talk about the pros and cons and what that would actually look like.Follow us on IG: @vllgboyzIntro: "Tell Me" - AyamtuSeparate Nationshttps://www.jstor.org/stable/2691663?seq=10#metadata_info_tab_contentsBiafra Warhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/24766444?seq=1#metadata_info_tab_contentsBlack Nationalismhttps://kinginstitute.stanford.edu/encyclopedia/black-nationalismSelf Determination Theoryhttps://www.verywellmind.com/what-is-self-determination-theory-2795387

I told y'all last month that #IceCube, #BoyceWatkins, #Diddy and others were agents of the Republican Party. They knew they wouldn't be able to get Black Americans to convert from the Democratic Party, so they decided to engage in #Votersuppression by spreading an incoherent message that only led to confusion. Now, with only three weeks left until #Electionday2020 the Black Nation is in a state of disarray, as opposed to the state of focus that is integral to our survival in America going forward. The #CWBA that Mr. Cube has been advocating for since May was mediocre at best, and offered very few specifics on how to accomplish the policies put forward. While on the outside the Contract With Black America seemed thorough and substantial, deeper research showed a fundamental lack of knowledge of how politics in The United States of America works. #BoyceWatkins compared the document to The Declaration of Independence, but at no time did the document declare Black independence from the United States. Making such a statement was not only grandiose; it was a damn lie! Black Hollywood, while being relatively silent on the issues affecting us, especially during #COVID19; however, the ones who have spoken out have spoken out in an attempt to subvert the political will of Black Americans, who have been disproportionately impacted by the virus. We have sat back and watched in awe, and terror as our false prophets turn on us behind closed doors, all while lying to our faces through #Zoom meetings. I guess #NWA was on to something when they made #BenedictArnold! #Criticalthinking is more important now than ever. Now that the cat is out the bag, I can honestly say that Ice Cube has been a White Supremacist from day one. Listen to his music, and if you were alive when he was popular, think about all the brothers and sisters who died because they believed it! It's time to call a spade a spade. HANDS OFF KRYSTAL MUHAMMAD & NBPP REVOLUTIONARY BLACK NATION SOLIDARITY
In this final episode of Season 2, I interview my husband, Dr. Marvin Doyley. He talks about the benefit of growing up in Jamaica, where he never even thought about race. This provided a strong foundation which helped him to navigate the racism he experienced in England and later, in America.
Last week, the RNC took place at the white house (which was clearly illegal and highly unethical to do). From Mon thru Thurs, each speaker had the opportunity to try a persuade to vote on November 3rd and create the biggest amount of lies that blinded our country even more. Even worse, was the Kenosha, Wisconsin incident where Jacob Blake (Unarmed Black Man) was shot in the back 7 times by police officers. At the same time, protests of Jacob's incident were sparked and what it worse has truly ant utterly proved that police officers and the Republicans showed their "white privilege" methods to the African American community. Republicans gave their condolences and sympathy for one of the slained officers that died during the protest. While the protest took place in Wisconsin, a teenager shot and killed two BLM protesters with an assault rifle. Police officers backed off and didn't arrest the teen until after the incident. It's a very sad time when Republicans condone violence to keep their political base by spreading massive falsehoods and accusations of Joe Biden creating this event. This was Trump's plan! Never Biden's plan! Friday Aug 28, 2020 we have lost one of our great icons that lifted our spirits and gave us the strength of unity as a Black Nation. Chadwick Boseman have passed away at the age of 43 due to Colon Cancer. His life and his accomplishments will live on in our hearts along with the memories he shared with us. He was the first ever African American that gave us the true meaning of living life to the fullest no matter the struggle in life. As a King/Superhero in "Black Panther", he showed us that not only being black mattered but being diverse and cultural mattered as well. We will surely miss him and wish him happiness in eternal glory with God. Rest In Peace. THROUGH EYES OF COLOR: A CONTEXTUALIZED GUIDE TO HELP YOU KNOW WHAT YOU BELIEVE AND WHY The second chapter will explore black figures in the Bible. This helps us as black people to see ourselves in the faith that we hold near and dear to our identity. Chapeter 2 Section I. Is Christianity a White Man's Religion? There's a lot of debate today around the question: “Is Christianity a white man's religion?” But this is not a new question. In his Jude 3 Project interview, Dr. Eric Mason explains that this question finds its beginnings in the teachings of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad, who led the Nation of Islam from 1934 until his death in 1975.3 In his book Message to the Blackman in America, Muhammad calls for African-Americans to “throw off the shackles of Christi- anity.”4 He writes, “There is no hope for us in Christian- ity; it is a religion organized by the enemies (the white race) of the Black Nation to enslave us to the white race's rule.”5

On March 31, 1968, over 500 Black nationalists convened in Detroit to begin the process of securing independence from the United States. Many concluded that Black Americans' best-remaining hope for liberation was the creation of a sovereign nation-state, the Republic of New Afrika (RNA). New Afrikan citizens traced boundaries that encompassed a large portion of the South including South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana as part of their demand for reparation. As champions of these goals, they framed their struggle as one that would allow the descendants of enslaved people to choose freely whether they should be citizens of the United States. New Afrikans also argued for financial restitution for the enslavement and subsequent inhumane treatment of Black Americans. The struggle to "Free the Land" remains active to this day. Edward Onaci's Free The Land: The Republic of New Afrika and the Pursuit of a Black Nation-State (University of North Carolina Press, 2020) is the first book to tell the full history of the RNA and the New Afrikan Independence Movement. Onaci shows how New Afrikans remade their lifestyles and daily activities to create a self-consciously revolutionary culture and argues that the RNA's tactics and ideology were essential to the evolution of Black political struggles. In doing so, he expands the story of Black Power politics, shedding new light on the long-term legacies of mid-century Black Nationalism.

In the season 2 finale, Dr. Ibe-Lamberts holds no punches as he discusses at length the troubling issues killing Black people in an already bizarre year 2020, 1) COVID-19 disease and 2) Racism against Blacks. TIME TO GET REAL!! He discusses why health disparities and social inequities/injustices affect both African-Americans and Black immigrants/transnational; why we should embrace the Black rage as an appropriate response to current displays of racist acts in America and not subscribe to the tactics of our predecessors in the 60s; and why Black immigrants can no longer sit this one out. It's time to shake the room...and the world! That and more! Make sure to listen till the end for a special message to ALL the listeners and guests as we conclude season 2. We discuss Police Brutality, being Black in America, Unlawful executions of Black Men, and us coming together as a Black Nation. But on a serious note, it is time for us to stop putting faith into a system that was NEVER set up for us to succeed to begin with. This system was created to protect the lives of everyone else, EXCEPT the BLACKS. Lets be cognizant and protect ourselves as well as our brothers and sisters....PEACE. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/cody-carpenter/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/cody-carpenter/support

CRIMES AGAINST THE BLACK NATION, ARTIFICIAL BORDERS, and HUMAN RIGHTS VILOATIONS
We begin our program today with an update on current activities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Mwiza Munthali, Africa World Now Project executive producer, human rights activist, and international journalist recently caught up with Kambale Musavuli. Kambale Musavuli, a native of the Democratic Republic of Congo and one of the leading political and cultural Congolese voices, is a human rights advocate, Student Coordinator and National Spokesperson for the Friends of the Congo. Kimbale has work his appeared in Washington Post.com, Foreign Policy in Focus, The Huffington Post and numerous other academic and news publications. He has appeared on various media outlets on National Public Radio, Democracy Now, ABC News, Al Jazeera English Television, Radio France International. We then turn our attention to Brazil, specifically the role of black women and the fight for racial justice against the land grab. In her book, Black Woman Against the Land Grab: The Fight for Racial Justice in Brazil, Dr. Keisha-Khan Perry argues that “spatial exclusion is at the core of gendered racial stratification in Brazilian cities, the thus exclusion produces mass black political organization, as is occurring in neighborhoods in the city of Salvador. The racial logic of modernization and urban renewal informed by European models of development nurtures a nostalgic desire for the colonial past on the part of white Brazilians. Taken together, with various construction projects that separated black residents from white residents and access to other resources in the 1960s, the need to articulate a politics of land permeance and ownership was formed” (xv). In South Africa, according to an April 2017 article on Black Opinion, the author asserts that: “The liberation of Black People in South Africa can only be truly complete once the majority of the Black Nation has full access to the land and all its offerings. Land provides means for people to fend for themselves and it endows them with a sense of dignity and pride." The question of human freedom rest at the intersection of land, identity, and collective responsibility. This question was, once again highlighted here in the U.S. a number of times in the various manifestations of Diasporic struggle for human rights. Dr. King brings sharp critique and clarity on the contradictions that are exposed when the question of human freedom does not meet at the intersection of land, identity, and collective responsibility. Weeks before he was assassinated he highlights what happened just after the Civil War… Next, we will listen to a recent conversation that I had with Dr. Keisha-Khan Perry on the question of land, racial justice, and black women in Brazil. Dr. Keisha-Khan Perry is Associate Professor of Africana Studies at Brown University where she specializes in the critical study of race, gender, and politics in the Americas with a particular focus on black women's activism, urban geography and questions of citizenship, feminist theories, intellectual history and disciplinary formations, and the interrelationship between scholarship, pedagogy, and political engagement. She has conducted extensive research in Mexico, Jamaica, Belize, Brazil, Argentina, and the United States. Professor Perry recently completed Black Women against the Land Grab: The Fight for Racial Justice in Brazil which is an ethnographic study of black women's activism in Brazilian cities. The book examines their participation and leadership in neighborhood associations and how and in what ways their interpretations of racial and gender identities intersect with urban spaces. She is currently writing Anthropology for Liberation: Research, Writing and Teaching for Social Justice while working on two other research projects. She is engaged in a study, which documents and analyzes the historical paradox of citizenship and black land ownership and loss in Brazil, Jamaica, and the United States.

This is a rebroadcast from 5 years ago. WE KNOW THAT WE CAN'T COME TOGETHER ON THE IDEALS OF RELIGION THAT'S FOR SURE. EYE KNOW THAT ALL OF US WANT UNITE BUT THAT'S ALRIGHT TOO.BUT FOR THE ONE'S THAT DO WANT TO UNITE HOW AND WHAT CAN WE UNITE ON?
On This week broadcast we will be discussing what will it take to get your liberation? Are you willing to stand up and fight for your liberation? Do you Want to be free but too scared to fight for it? Do you really understand the price of freedom? Are you truly down for black nationalism? Like brother Malcolm X said you can't sing upon freedom you have to swing upon freedom. These are some of the thing's eye will be going over in this week broadcast here on Free Ya Mind Radio.
Now how can you love someone that hate you? Now if eye have a history of being cruel to you then what kind of fool are you to still love me. And if you are going to love me while eye treat you like you are less than human, then why should eye change. Come on family and join me for this topic. Peace 347-850-8030

WE WERE TOLD BY SOME OF OUR GREAT LEADERS HOW WE SHOULD BE DOING FOR SELF AND KIND. WE WERE ALSO TOLD THAT WE SHOULD NOT DEPEND ON THE GOVERNMENT TO PROVIDE US OUR NEEDS. NOW IF YOU TAKE NOTICE TO WHAT'S GOING ON HERE IN AMERICA, YOU WILL SEE THAT SHE CAN'T TAKE CARE OF HER OWN SELF. JUST LOOK AT ALL OF THE BUDGET CUTS AND JOB LOSSES THAT ARE HAPPENING. SO THE QUESTION IS WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO AS A BLACK AFRICAN FAMILY? WELL THESE ARE JUST OF THE POINTS THAT WE WILL BE TOUCHING ON. PEACE
Ray Nicholes is our guest for episode 23 - EXTENDED!!! We are proud to present our first extended episode with an incredible Black Nation artist based in Miami but coming from the Detroit underground!!! Below you will find some insights of your returning guest!!! ENJOY Starting out playing the drums and early years interest in rock, industrial, and hip-hop Ray realized quickly that he had an unparalleled edge to his creativity. He continued to built the foundation of his sound while developing his roots in west Michigan as he bounced between the underground techno scenes of Chicago, Detroit, and Toronto in the early ’90s. With the rapidly evolving techno scene Ray kept his focus on producing tracks. His EPs Black Kamanche, Confessions, Tentación, and Caja de Ultima Hora “the remixes” are all released on Black Nation Records. Over 14 years of influence by some of the icons of techno he has been able to fine tune and master his style that he coins “machine gun techo” with sound and style that is dark, deep, heavy on drums and percussion, somewhat moody and tribal with lifting sexy vocals and intrinsic loops. Since moving to Miami in 2009, Ray has been featured in a number of clubs and private events including multiple gigs during WMC. He headlined at Space Techno Loft, Grand Central, Treehouse, and Overkill Warehouse Party Art Basel (Miami Beach); but also performed for Detek at The Works during Movement Festival 2011 in Detroit while keeping busy with international gigs at Decapolis, Pure, and Club Velvet in Panama City, Panama headlining with Marco Carola; and the Laberinto Producciones Music Festival @ La Planicie in Lima, Peru.
