On October 29, 1984, 66-year-old beloved Black disabled grandmother Eleanor Bumpurs was murdered in her own home. A public housing tenant 4 months behind on rent, Ms. Bumpurs was facing eviction when white NYPD officer Stephen Sullivan shot her twice with a 12-gauge shotgun. LaShawn Harris, 10 years old at the time, felt the aftershocks of the tragedy in her community well beyond the four walls of her home across the street. Now an award-winning historian, Harris uses eyewitness accounts, legal documents, civil rights pamphlets, and more to look through the lens of her childhood neighbor's life and death. She renders in a new light the history of anti-Black police violence and of the watershed anti-policing movement Eleanor Bumpurs's murder birthed. So many Black women's lives have been stolen since—Deborah Danner, Sandra Bland, Breonna Taylor, Sonya Massey—and still more are on the line. A deeply researched, intimate portrait of Eleanor Bumpurs's life and legacy highlights, Tell Her Story (Beacon Press, 2025) shows how one Black grandmother's brutal police murder galvanized an entire city, and how possible and critical it is to stand together against racist policing now. To become a sustaining member go to https://LauraFlanders.org/donate Thank you for your continued support!Description: You wouldn't know it from the data, but Latinos are the second most likely demographic to be killed by law enforcement in the U.S, relative to their population. We only have these statistics now thanks to the work of La Raza Database Research Project, a group of volunteers in Southern California who are bringing awareness to systematic police violence against the Latino population. They estimate that almost 6,500 Latinos have been killed by police between 2000 and 2022 – but the data has been missing until this moment. In this unusual installment of our monthly “Meet the BIPOC Press” series, Laura and Senior Producer Jeremiah Cothren sit down with LF&F Social Justice Reporting Fellow, Roberto Camacho, who interviewed members of the Research Project to figure out why Latinos are so frequently misrepresented. Camacho also spoke with the mother and sister of César Antonio Rodriguez, a young man tragically killed by the Long Beach Police Dept in 2017 and misidentified in police records. Send us a Text Message.Welcome back to 50Tallk. This is episode 112 and the host's Victor & Cathy are happy to be back with you all again. This episode is the call before the storm for the craziness of the week. The Kingdom is off to the woods this week and then topping it off with a Family Reunion for three days this weekend. We are so excited to see family and also to just go out into nature and enjoy some time with our immediate family. Beers and fire here we come!Well let's et into some show topics right now. Our first topic this week is the Police Killing of Sonya Massey in Springfield, Illinois by a former Sheriff's Deputy named Sean Grayson. This piece of work has been fired (finally) and has been charged with three counts of 1st Degree murder and two other counts as well. The body camera footage was released about a week or so after the killing and it is very hard to watch and to listen to. I think the words this former police officer used were heartless and disgusting. This man should get everything he deserves for killing this woman. He is a heartless person and should have never been able to wear a police badge. Shame on the people who hired him and the people that kept him employed long enough to let this happen.Next up we are talking about Kamala Harris, our new Presidential Candidate for the Democratic party. Damn that sounds nice. The race has totally changed since this happened but Donald Trump is still the same racists, narcissists that he has always been. This guy hand the actual balls to go in front of a room full of Black Reporters at the NABJ conference in Chicago last week and show his entire ass. I mean the entire damn thing. He got put on "front street" from the moment he sat is ass down and it was a wonderful thing to see. There is a fabricated story coming out of the Paris Olympics having to do with a female boxer out of Algeria. Her name is Imane Khelif and her name is being dragged through the mud for no reason. It's a damn shame that people hear a story and they run with it. In this world of hate for anyone who isn't a certain race or looks a certain way or is anyway different from you people will disparage you. I'm not blaming the media I'm blaming hateful people because that's what it is. Keeping with the Olympics Cathy and I give the medal count as of Sunday evening and America is kicking ass. It's been a fun Olympic Games so far. The final story out of Wichita, Kansas about the stolen Jackie Robinson Statue is out. The big reveal will be happening Monday August 5th and a star studded group of former MLB'ers will be in attendance for the reveal. The person that stole the statue has been sentenced to 15 years in prison and the Legend of Jackie Robinson is alive and well at  McAdams Field for eternity. Our last topic for the show is about Cathy and I going to see Deadpool & Wolverine in the theater. It was a great movie. It was very entertaining and that's all we will say until next week. I will be giving spoilers and you can't stop me. Y'all have a good week and we will see you next time for episode 113. If you want to add anything to our conversation please feel free to email us at victor50talk@gmail.com

Warning: This podcast will show and discuss an unedited video of Eddie Irizarry being fatally shot by a Philadelphia Police, Mark Dial. Host Renaldo McKenzie and Co-Host, Donete Nelson will explore this and several other videos involving police brutality. The videos contain graphic language and violence. Viewer discretion is advised. On this powerful and dynamic episode of The Neoliberal Round Podcast, Renaldo and Donte provide insightful commentaries on the constant and sore issue of police brutality and question whether promises of reform were just a means to pacify the BLM. The Police are still not wearing body cams, still killing black men in certain communities and lying about it, while still benefitting from the protection of their unions and politicians even after the protests stemming from the Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, Tyre Nichols, and countless other police killings, and the promises of change and reform. Still, police continue to abuse their power and violently kill black, brown, and Latino men in certain communities then retreat to their unions and the system for protection which applies a slap on the wrist. It is no wonder that Police continue to gun down certain people in diverse communities. The latest killing of Eddie Irizarry was more telling and Mark Dial, the Police Officer who fatally Irizarry, was even more telling of the police's constant brutality and how they are still supported by their unions and the system. He had initially lied that Irizarry had lunged at him with a knife and refused to participate in the investigation. When the body cam video was released showing that Irizarry was in his car when Dial quickly attacked with gun drawn and fired six times killing Irizarry, he turned himself in and was only given a $50, 000.00 bail and his union released a statement that they were still behind Dial. Dial's attorney reported that Dial was legally justified as he was in fear for his life. This is farfetched as there is no evidence of this, except the video showing the opposite of Dial's initial lie that Irizarry had attacked him. The podcast was a discussion of a post in The NeoLiberal Post by Renaldo McKenzie entitled: "When Police Serve and Protect, Becomes Lie and Betray" highlighting in various police killings how they use sly arguments, loopholes, and the system to continue to brutalize or to escape responsibility and accountability in their excesses. https://renaldocmckenzie.com/2023/09/when-police-protect-and-serve-become-lie-and-betray/ The Podcast discussed another police killing in New Castle Delaware where a 28-year-old was killed by police after a deadly chase. The police had a press conference but provided a convoluted & conflicted story & would not take questions from reporters. They conveniently do not have body cam video & demonize the victim by calling him a fugitive as if he is not innocent until proven guilty by a court of law, not by police. The podcast reminded us of the Tyre Nichols beating by Police leading to his death & the constant call for all police to wear body cams that work in the execution of their duties. Further, the podcast explores whether police unions should get involved in police excesses and killings since police officers are charged with serving protecting, and upholding the law and that is in question involving those they are charged to serve and protect, police should have the protection of their unions. Finally, the podcast shows how the legal system and legislature continue to preach reform while accommodating police flagrant adjustment of the reform requirement to wear body cam and the application of $50,00 bail involving police killings. The Context of White Supremacy welcomes Jared Fishman, Suspected Racist. After working in the Civil Rights Division of the US Department of Justice for fourteen years, where he handled some of the nation's most significant cases of police misconduct, hate crimes and human trafficking, Fishman founded the Justice Innovation Lab, an organization that uses a data-informed approach to build a more effective and fair justice system. We'll discuss his newly published book, Fire on the Levee: The Murder of Henry Glover and the Search for Justice after Hurricane Katrina. Glover, a black male NOLA native, was shot in the back by a White police officer (David Warren). Other officials then burned a vehicle with Glover's body in the rear. Suspicousy, Glover's skull disappeared. Many aspect of Fishman's book reveal truth about the System of White Supremacy. However, the portion of the book that describes the pornographic stash of high resolution, "unofficial" photographs of Henry Glover's body and likens them to lynching postcards of the early 20th century is especially revealing. Gus T. asked if Fishman was aware of the recent $28.8 million judgement against the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department for callously trading pictures of Kobe Bryant's charred remains. #DelectableNegro #TheCOWS14Years INVEST in The COWS – http://paypal.me/TheCOWS Cash App: https://cash.app/$TheCOWS CALL IN NUMBER: 605.313.5164 CODE: 564943#

The 2019 police killing of Kawaski Trawick inside his own Bronx apartment has not received the same attention as similar cases across the country. But this week, an NYPD disciplinary trial began for two officers involved in the fatal shooting. The NYPD says the 32-year-old rushed at officers while holding a knife during the interaction, which lasted under two minutes and was caught on body camera footage. The Trawick family and advocates are calling for accountability after the Bronx district attorney declined to bring charges and an internal NYPD probe found no wrongdoing. The administrative trial will resume in mid-May.  In an effort to understand the fatal encounter better, Errol Louis talked about the case with Kawaski Trawick's parents, Ellen and Ricky Trawick; Loyda Colon, the executive director of the nonprofit Justice Committee; Eric Umansky, the editor at large from ProPublica; and Marinda van Dalen, a senior staff attorney for New York Lawyers for the Public Interest.  Join the conversation, weigh in on Twitter using the hashtag #NY1YouDecide or give us a call at 212-379-3440 and leave a message. In 2015, a police officer shot and killed LaKeith Smith's friend, A'Donte Washington, during a burglary gone wrong. But years later, LaKeith is the one behind bars for murder. LaKeith was originally given a sentence of 65-years, after beingc onvicted of burglary, theft, and something called felony murder. In certain criminal cases, the felony murder rule allows a person to be charged with murder even if they're not the one who did the killing. Experts say it's a legal charge that disproportionately hurts young, Black and brown men. In a March resentencing hearing, a judge ruled that LaKeith's sentences could be served concurrently, thus reducing his overall time; but LaKeith's family and supporters were still left heartbroken, because even with this reduction, he's facing a 30-year sentence.Trymaine Lee spoke to LaKeith's mother, Tina Smith, about her family's continued fight for justice. And we talked to lawyer Leroy Maxwell and activist Daniel Forkkio, along with Andre Washington, the father of A'Donte Washington, about what true justice for his son would look like. Follow and share the show on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, using the handle @intoamericapod.Thoughts?
