The Grove - An Arsenal Podcast

Ipswich Away, Max Dowman Brilliance, Big Vik, Big Concerns & a Brighton Preview Max Dowman did not just score twice against Ipswich - he looked like he was born for this level. Tabs and Andy break down the 16-year-old's brace, the touch that sent a defender the wrong way, the off-ball work that had everyone talking, and why this might be the clearest sign yet that Arsenal have a genuine future star on their hands. But this episode is not only about one teenage sensation. Tabs and Andy also dig into the bigger picture from a fun 4-2 Carabao Cup win, including the strength of Arsenal's squad depth, the decision to rotate, and why this competition still matters for developing players who need minutes now. You'll discover:Why Dowman's first brace for the club feels bigger than a cup stat lineWhat his positioning, confidence, and decision-making say about his ceilingWhy Andy thinks his movement, pressing, and finishing are already far beyond typical 16-year-old standardsHow Miley Salmon, Bruno Guimaraes, and Mikel Merino impressed in a rotated sideWhy the performance of Victor Gyokeres has become one of the episode's most uncomfortable talking pointsTabs and Andy do not shy away from the hard questions either. They get into whether Gyokeres is struggling with confidence, effort, or something deeper, and what Arsenal may have to do if they cannot quickly get him back to his best. They also compare him with players who can be limited technically but still terrify opponents, and ask what actually makes a striker useful when the goals are not flowing. Then the conversation turns to Brighton. With Arsenal chasing a perfect start, the pair look ahead to a tricky away trip, the injury situation, possible lineup calls, and why this might be the right moment to face a strong opponent that is missing key players.COYG.----Follow, rate, and subscribe on your favourite podcast app.Find us on socials: @thegroveafcThis is The Grove, and everyone is welcome. In this episode we chat about the 2-0 win over Sunderland on Saturday evening. Arsenal made first half chances for Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz which could have resulted in goals, but against a hard-working home side we struggled to find the breakthrough. We then chat about the award of their penalty, and the referee/VAR decision that was hard to accept. However, David Raya was the hero, saving Enzo Le Fee's spot-kick, before Bruno Guimaraes scored a beautiful goal at the Stadium of Light to make it 1-0. The Gunners finishing was off again, there were more chances to score which we didn't take, Sunderland had threatening moments, but in the end Bukayo Saka's penalty made it safe. We look at how well Arsenal acquitted themselves away from home (again), before taking listener questions about Mikel Arteta's comments about the penalty, where David Raya ranks in the pantheon of Arsenal goalkeepers, the managers use of subs and his technical area antics, possible changes for the Carabao Cup game on Tuesday, and lots more.Get extra bonus content and help support Arseblog by becoming an Arseblog Member on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/arseblog Hosted on Acast. This is the personality Newcastle fans loved; a huge statement when the team needed it most. From countdowns on every one of our throws whilst Sunderland made an event of every one of theirs, to the continuous fouls overlooked, justice was served in the end. When you are doing a PhD dissertation, or writing a book, or working on some major project that takes a lot of your time, attention, and emotional energy, there is a tendency to start to resent that thing. I guess it is a natural outcome of all that investment. While I may have resented the dissertation process, I never really resented my dissertation topic because it focused on the ways in which commerce brings together people who might not otherwise come into contact. Those Metropolitan Detroit corner convenience stores that I was doing fieldwork in were not just places of business, but also of community and cultural connection. After all, we can look at the entire history of humanity and see how trade and commerce were the primary vehicles through which people come into contact with one another. From those contacts comes evolution and growth. While commerce is global, it is also local. While it might have shared characteristics in some ways, it also is going to be distinctive in other ways. And that's the beauty of culture. Whether it is food, music, art, architecture, language, or business, the same idea is going to be executed in different ways. Whether the differences are great or small, it is important to recognize and appreciate them. By understanding those differences, it might just inspire us to do what we do with more creativity. That's why I'm lucky to welcome Bruno Guimarães to Experience by Design podcast. Bruno is one of the leading voices of customer experience in Brazil, and beyond. He has been named one of the top influential CX professionals in the world, with a mission to inspire and assist individuals and companies in achieving excellence in CX. He has worked with companies in Brazil to bring customer experience to that country, adding the unique Brazilian flavor to a global profession. This includes being a CX Solution Strategist for Brazil and Southern Latin America. He also is the Founder of Amigos do CX, a community for CX practitioners not only in Brazil, but anywhere. We explore his journey to CX through marketing, advertising, and sales. He lays out the early origins of organizing a CX community to create a space for professionals to share support and knowledge. He describes how Brazil is a CX hotspot at the moment, with more and more companies trying to find a path to excellence in CX. However, as he points out, a limiting factor can be practitioners not understanding the businesses and industries they are trying to support. Thus, along with a strong foundation in CX, professionals also need to have a strong foundation in business as well. We also talk about his work to bring other global CX voices together through his LinkedIn daily posting project, where he invites CX professionals from around the world to share their work and wisdom about CX. This has resulted in great collections on What I Learned, now in its third year. We also talk about his marathon training, which I am happy to report resulted in a personal best time at the Boston Marathon in 2026. We also discuss David Raya, promising signs from Arsenal's performance in terms of our attacking play, and the competitive debut for Bruno Guimaraes, before attention turns to players who weren't there and what we might read into the absence of Gabriel Martinelli in particular. In part two we answer questions about Arsenal's transfer business, amid confusion around aspects of the finances. If we could buy Vinicius Junior and pay his wages, why is it being reported we need to sell, and is it coincidence that it's players like Lewis-Skelly, Martinelli and Ethan Nwaneri most strongly linked with moves away?
