In this conversation, I brought in Sarah Gardner of Heat Initiative to discuss a landmark lawsuit against Apple regarding its negligence in protecting children from child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Together we break down the lawsuit and what these failures mean for families. Are Apple devices even safe for kids, in their current form? Many questions are asked and answered in this episode. The lawsuit against Apple was filed on behalf of thousands of survivors of child sexual abuse for knowingly allowing the storage of images and videos documenting their abuse on iCloud and the company's defectively designed products. The lawsuit alleges that Apple has known about this content for years, but has refused to act to detect or remove it, despite developing advanced technology to do so. The images and videos of the plaintiffs' childhood sexual abuse, which have been stored thousands of times, would have been identified and removed had Apple implemented its 2021 “CSAM Detection” technology. However, Apple terminated the program after its announcement. Other leading technology providers have been proactively detecting and reporting illegal child sex abuse images and videos for more than a decade. Apple's belated efforts, and subsequent cancellation, leave it among the very few major platforms that do not engage in proactive detection and removal. Prior to launching Heat's campaign to hold Apple accountable, Sarah spent 10 years at Thorn, an organization that builds technology to combat online child sexual abuse, where she was integral to its growth from a small, start-up effort to a multi-million dollar nonprofit. As Vice President of External Affairs, she helped develop a plan to eliminate child sexual abuse material from the internet which spurred a $63M investment in the organization through the TED Audacious Prize. Capt. Sarah Gardner has been a full time fishing guide for over 27 years. Along with her husband, Capt. Brian Horsley, they are the go to guides for fly fishing in the area surrounding Outer Banks, NC. Sarah & Brian both run 23 foot Jones Brother boats and target Cobia, Redfish, False Albacore, Spanish Mackerel, Bluefish, & Sharks on the fly. After getting her Bachelor's degree in Illustration from Moore College of Art in 1987, Sarah worked in advertising for several years, but she never felt comfortable working inside. To be around other like-minded people and earn extra money, she took an evening sales position at Anglers Sport Center, a big outfitter in Maryland. Shortly thereafter, out of the blue, the legendary Lefty Kreh called and would eventually take her under his wing and help her flourish into the great writer and spokesperson she is today. Years later, Lefty was the photographer at Sarah & Brian's wedding and their relationship continued until his passing a couple of years ago. Sarah is known by her peers as being a hardy, tough, badass of a human whether on the water, in the woods, or competing in Ironman races. Not only is she “fishy” on the boat but her love for teaching and educating is extremely inspiring. As people look up to Joan Wulff and Kathy Beck, many view Sarah as a role model and shining example on how hard work, dedication, and chasing your passions can lead to a extremely fulfilling life. Thanks for coming on the podcast, Sarah!

More than a decade ago, Sarah Gardner was a yoga teacher with a dream: She wanted to bring a thousand yogis together at Gillette Stadium in Boston to raise money for Boston Children's Hospital.Years before, Sarah's son had spent seven life-saving weeks in the NICU at Boston Children's. After experiencing the love, care, and devotion that the doctors and nurses gave to her family, Sarah knew she wanted to give back. She has spent more than a decade doing just that -- rallying the yoga community each spring to gather at Gillette Stadium to do yoga for a cause. To date, her organization, Yoga Reaches Out, has raised more than 4 million dollars for Boston Children's Hospital. The money raised helps fund the program Until Every Child is Well, which offers dog therapy and art therapy, helps families with food vouchers, hotel stays, vouchers, and more. Hear Sarah's inspiring story, including lessons she's learned along the way.PS: Jason and I are headlining this year's Yoga Reaches Out even on April 28th and we would love to see you there! CEO and child protection advocate Sarah Gardner joins me this week to talk all about safety online. Sarah leads the Heat Initiative, a company built to pressure Apple to remove child sexual abuse material from all of its platforms. This is definitely an intense episode, but Sarah explains the issue in a very accessible way and I learned so much from her. We discuss exactly what child sexual abuse material entails and how many children it affects, as well as the exact moment Sarah knew she needed to do something about this problem. Sarah explains how both children's safety and users' privacy can be maintained through the detection of imagery in iCloud and we talk about why it has been so difficult to convince Apple to implement this feature. We end with a conversation about the ethics of family vloggers and what it means to share your kids online for the whole world to see. Content warning: Today's episode focuses on issues around child sexual abuse. If you are comfortable and able to listen, you will learn so much from Sarah this episode. It has been well over a year since we've had a guest on the show, and there is no better way to invite someone back in than for a live mental health sprint coaching session! This is one of my most popular coaching offerings and we are letting you sit as a fly on the wall! In todays session you'll meet Sarah Gardner who is a small, service-based business owner in Indiana. Sarah's business is called Immersive Sound Experiences, where sarah offers sound bathing, which is a passive meditation practice that utilizes beautiful sounds from chimes and singing bowls to help participants ease into a calm state, literally shifting your brain waves and activating the parasympathetic nervous system. While Sarah and I have discussed business many times before as peers, this was our first time doing coaching together. You'll notice through laughter that Sarah and I already have some rapport! Sarah came in with some creativity blocks and uncertainty about how to make her business financially sustainable. She was also experiencing some mindset blocks such as perfectionism, being hard on herself, and some icky feelings about selling a service due to a dissonance between wanting to sell a valuable service, while also having a social-justice heart for making this modality accessible. Something that came to light was some of the assets that sarah has but hasn't been utilizing to their full potential and some deeper insights as to why that might be. My goal with Sarah was to ask questions that would spark some of that creativity back, empower her to be innovative and explore new angles of her biz, and uplift/encourage her that she has more resources and capability than she might feel right now, and to help challenge some of her mindsets around selling. One of my core coaching philosophies is that every individual has exactly the resources they need within themselves, if given the right support to uncover it. Consider me, the excavator of your potential. I think this episode will be relatable to many people- ESPECIALLY if you are listening and are business-minded or are a helping professional. OR if you are curious about what a coaching session might feel like. This episode is minimally edited, per usual, so that you can really get a feel for the cadence and real human stuttering and real-time contemplating that we'll both experience as we work together. --- To hire Kelsee as your mental health coach, nationwide, visit www.hemlockcoachingservices.com or connect with her on Instagram. Rob and Sarah Gardner are parents and outdoor enthusiasts who have a passion for our national parks. After many family trips exploring the parks, they wanted to find a way to support these national treasures. Through their baby gear company Joovy, they have partnered with the national park foundation to bring awareness to families about the importance of these spaces, and more specifically about the endangered animals that call the parks home. I'm excited today to talk more about our national parks and how we can help our children grow up to be environmental stewards, to cultivate a connection between them and the land, and the animals that live there. Sarah is an actress, singer, voice-over artist, humanitarian, and lover of adventure. Having moved from spending years in the non-profit world, working in the Middle East, to hustling as a film actor on both the east and west coast, her life has been anything but linear. She is also the creative director at Empower Women Media. On today's episode, you'll hear Sarah and I talk about how she learned to cultivate deep relationships, the life-changing event that drove her to seek authenticity in relationships, and how she has learned to be truly honest in her relationship with God. Initial tests show no lead contamination in the Waikouaiti River, but there are still more results to come and the Otago Regional Council has ramped up surveillance. The river feeds the reservoir, which has tested positive for high levels of lead. Otago Regional Council [ORC] is working with Dunedin City Council [DCC] on the response. ORC chief executive Sarah Gardner told Checkpoint it is responsible for drinking water at source.
Talk ON! Juniors and Canine PartnersAs part of Pure Dog Talk’s commitment to engaging conversations, modeling appropriate dialogue and encouraging thoughtful discussion, we are bringing you two sides of the currently white-hot topic in the dog world: AKC’s pilot program to allow junior handlers to exhibit Canine Partners in Junior Showmanship classes. From https://dognews.com/current-issue (Dog News):At its January meeting, the American Kennel Club board of directors green-lighted a proposal from the Delegate Junior Sub-Committee and AKC staff to allow non-purebreds to be exhibited in Junior Showmanship. The AKC pilot program is modeled after the rules used in 4-H, where mixed breeds are permitted. In order to compete, dogs must have an AKC Canine Partner number and meet the ownership eligibility criteria. Juniors will indicate the breed that the dog is being exhibited as on the entry form. So, for example, a dog entered as a Golden Retriever mix would be presented in the same way as a purebred Golden. The rationale for allowing mixed breeds in Junior Showmanship is to provide an opportunity for a wider range of youngsters to participate in the sport of dogs, and give them an opportunity to learn, practice and improve their handling skills, as well as find mentors. This pilot program will go into effect on July 1, 2021, and continue for 18 months before it is assessed in 2022. It is limited to all-breed shows or events holding all-breed Juniors.Predictably, this topic has engendered heated discussion amongst the children and adults who populate this arena. Sadly, many of those conversations have devolved into the 21st century curse of ugly discourse. As an antidote to this, we’re bringing you two weeks of conversation, devil’s advocate positions and insight from two perspectives in this debate. Listeners may or may not agree with one “side” or the other. But I firmly believe that until we *hear* one another, we can’t make progress … in anything. Feel free to share your thoughts on the Pure Dog Talk FB page, or here in the comments. But rest assured, ANY ugliness, name calling or other inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated. Be passionate AND polite. Today, Jody Davidson, long time Juniors coach and advocate, along with Bevin Towell, junior showmanship exhibitor, join host and moderator Laura Reeves to make the case for their position. Next week we are joined by 4H leader and advocate Sarah Gardner for the “rebuttal.” As always, talk ON! Support this podcast

I wish to Ra they had made HER a recurring character instead of Dr Robert Rothman. Also, by the way, #Martinwasright. There are buried alien spaceships and shit left ALL OVER the earth, buried random Goauld places. Grrr.
