Tique wraps up our Conversation Series on the Fruit of the Spirit by looking at Self-Control.
What if the Golden Rule is holding your leadership back? In this episode, we challenge the age-old idea of "treat others the way you want to be treated" and introduce its more inclusive upgrade—the Platinum Rule: treat others the way they want to be treated. We unpack the difference between fairness and sameness, and explore why personalized leadership—though complex—is the key to building trust, belonging, and high-performing teams. We dive into the personalization paradox: how to treat people differently while staying grounded in your team's shared values. You'll hear the story of a well-meaning manager who thought they were being fair but was unintentionally alienating half their team. We also introduce a simple but powerful tool—the Personal Employee Handbook—that helps uncover unconscious assumptions and build stronger relationships. You'll learn how to ask people what they need without making it weird or awkward, and why building trust requires a cycle of connection, failure, apology, and growth. This episode connects to our book, The Bridging Leader, and is part of our adaptability framework that's been shown to increase trust by 81%. Research shows that up to 96% of employees engage in workplace gossip—it's a natural part of how humans communicate. But not all gossip is harmful. Studies have found that positive gossip—sharing praise about someone when they're not around—can boost trust, morale, and team cohesion. Let's explore the concept of “Goss-up”: intentionally flipping gossip into a force for good. Instead of whispering criticisms, what if we choose to speak positively behind people's backs? In this special episode of the Powerful Ladies Podcast, I sit down with the amazing Cara Stewart for a Powerful Conversation Series episode that's been on my heart for a while. I've been having so many private conversations, within the Powerful Ladies community, with clients, and with friends, about how we can take meaningful civic action when it feels like the system isn't working for us. Getting people to talk publicly about civic engagement has been harder than I expected. A lot of invited guests said no out of fear of backlash, which is exactly why I knew we had to have this conversation. Cara was brave enough to say yes, and she brought her deep experience in public affairs, crisis communications, and local activism to the table. She's the chair of the Costa Mesa Democratic Club and runs a firm called WunderMarx. We talked about what's happening in Orange County, how it shifted from a red county to a more progressive, civically engaged region, and why it's so important for all of us to reclaim our power as citizens, especially now.
In this episode of There Is More with David Walker, we're joined by Pastor and Army Chaplain Karl Albert Long. Together, they explore the cost of breaking free from victim mentalities, the transformative unity found in military service, and what it means to show people "a better way" when culture and church traditions collide. At its core, this conversation is about the freedom found in Christ, the strength in diversity, and the mission that unites us all.We would love to connect you with our prayer team- email us with as much detail as you'd like to share and how we can pray, to pastorwalker@alamocity.org We are honored to pray with you and excited to see what God does!
