Volume Up is an extension of TheTease.com hosted by The Tease founder and agency owner, Kelly Ehlers and VP of Digital, Jeffrey Lunnen. Every Monday, Kelly and Jeffrey will be sharing headlines of our favorite articles on the site, our rants about what’s going on in the salon pro world, and interview founders, tastemakers and industry icons.

Interview with Jennifer Alvarez With a specialty in hair extensions, bridal services, and creating a business Jennifer's passionate about, she has scaled a seven-figure salon from the ground up. Along the way, she learned what it takes to grow sustainably, even through the toughest challenges. Now, she's dedicated to helping salon owners like you build a profitable, resilient business. Her mission is to share clear, effective strategies so others can streamline operations, grow their team, and boost profits—without it being overwhelming. She has been a licensed cosmetologist since 2002, and like many in the beauty industry, her journey started with passion but was filled with plenty of doubt, trial and error, and moments of “Is this really sustainable?” Early on, she struggled with self-worth, lack of direction, and not having the right tools or guidance to succeed. But through relentless commitment to education, mentorship, and learning from her failures—she built the business (and life) she once only dreamed of. Today, she is proud to say that she is the founder of a two-time award-winning, seven-figure salon and spa, retired from behind the chair as of 2023, and she now owns the building her business operates in. But none of this came easy—and that's why she is so passionate about helping other salon owners fast-track their own success. She personally invested over $100,000 in professional development, business coaching, and technical education—from advanced training at the Redken Exchange in NYC to the Vidal Sassoon Academy in London, working with celebrity artists and some of the top business minds in the industry. She has won national photo competitions, received the Leo Passage Award, and built a thriving bridal brand and education platform along the way. But what is she most proud of? Helping other salon owners and service-based entrepreneurs break free from burnout, confusion, and plateaued growth—and start building a business and create a beautiful lifestyle through a beauty career. Through her coaching, mentorship programs, and the Beauty Business Game-Changer podcast, she teaches proven systems, strategies, and real-world tools that simplify the process and accelerate others' growth—without sacrificing their passion or their peace. Letter from the EditorWelcome to PRINTED BY THE TEASE Vol. 1To say there's a lot going on right now would be an understatement. Obviously. How else should we describe these times exactly? Every hour brings a new surprise, delivered to us digitally via push notifications, DMs and texts—not all of them good. In fact, many are bad. It is my hope that this first issue of PRINTED is a good surprise. In this issue, we spotlight the professional beauty industry's dreamers, artists, innovators, rule-breakers, and world-builders—some are known to you already, many others (we hope) will be new. You'll find kit checks from Donni Davy, Rena Calhoun and Nikki LaRose-Bonaldi, summer hair color and nail trend predictions from Biancia Hillier and Alisha Rimando, profiles on the barbers you need to know and visits to Logan Parlor in Chicago and the Hair by Schwarzkopf Festival in Berlin. We also grapple with tensions—with what we are meant or expected to do versus what we actually do. We talk with beauty pros and founders, like Cesar Deleon Ramirez, Kendra Alia, Amanda Bavaro, Cassie Carey, Anissa Salazar and Keya Neal, about the choices they've made, professionally and personally. We asked the questions you've always wanted to have answered and this group did not disappoint. Then there's the stunning visuals! I am thrilled that we are able to share “We've Always Been Here” from Jamie DiGrazia and Manda Ziegelman (both Redken artists and Sam Villa ambassadors) for the first time. DiGrazia, founder and executive director of HAIR HAS NO GENDER™ NFP, and Ziegelman created a bold collection that “celebrates queer identity, gender diversity, and the beauty that exists beyond the binary” which feels more important now than ever before. For our cover story, “It's Giving Disco,” brought to you by Pure Brazilian, I was able to collaborate with the inimitable Janine Jarman. Our shoot was heavily influenced by our shared love of 70s Cher and the slinky femininity of that time—a total fever dream made real. We also have Good Dye Young “glitching out” with masterful color placement on singer and brand co-founder Hayley Williams by the brand's other co-founder Brian O'Connor. Pure eye candy escapism.I know that we're competing for your attention. This issue of PRINTED is up to the task.Jeffrey C. Interview with Janine Jarman:Janine Jarman is a nationally renowned celebrity hair stylist and the founder of Hairroin Salon, the home of Hollywood's best-tressed. Born and raised in Huntington Beach, CA, Jarman has been “hair-obsessed” for as long as she can remember. At the age of 15 she teamed up with her best friend to offer hair and makeup services to her party-bound classmates. Jarman then moved on to beauty school, and after graduating, she immediately began shooting for the stars. Jarman steadily built a loyal client base until she was bit by the entrepreneurial bug in 2005. She purchased a failing salon and immediately re-branded and re-opened it as Hairroin Salon. Hairroin instantly became Tinseltown's newest obsession, garnering Hollywood clientele including Florence Welch, Tommy Lee, Kylie Minogue, Danica Patrick, and Fergie. For many years Jarman was the key stylist and official hairdresser for the world's most successful female pop group, The Pussycat Dolls. Jarman was the creator of their signature look, which led to work with celebrities such as Christina Applegate, Britney Spears, Lil' Kim, and Carmen Electra. Jarman has also been the principal hairstylist for television shows including ”Beauty and the Geek,” “The Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search for The Next Doll,” endless commercial spots, and live shows like the MTV Movie Awards. In 2010 she burst into the national spotlight as a finalist on the third season of Bravo's hit show “Shear Genius.” Jarman instantly became a favorite among the judges and was voted Fan Favorite of her season, standing out for her fearless hair creations, free spirit, and endless amounts of energy.Having naturally curly hair herself, she leaned into using perms to solve texture issues her clients were facing – but felt the need to reimagine the traditional perm process, odor and environmental impact. This led her to Italy where she conjured up Curl Cult, delivering a simpler, healthier, more sustainable texturizing treatment with at-home curl support products even natural curls will love.Links:https://www.curlcult.com/https://www.instagram.com/curlcult/https://www.instagram.com/janinejarman/ https://www.instagram.com/hairroinsalon/ https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/volume-up-by-the-tease/id1539183805?i=1000632325792Rate The Look:Ariana Madix Danielle BrooksLayla Leanne TaylorNews from TheTease.com:https://www.thetease.com/everything-you-need-to-know-about-entering-the-2025-north-american-trendvision-awards/ https://www.thetease.com/pink-hair-is-everywhere-again-bianca-hillier-explains-her-take-on-the-trend/ More from TheTease.com:Instagram:

Rita Hazan is equal parts colorist/artist/innovator. A NYC native, Rita is recognized as a pioneer, carving her own niche in the beauty field. Known not only for her eponymous Upper East Side salon and for creating the Root Concealer category, Rita's iconic looks on celebrities such as Beyoncé, Katy Perry, Jennifer Lopez, Jessica Simpson, Aubrey Plaza, and Sydney Sweeney have had a lasting impact on worldwide beauty trends.Rita always knew she wanted to work in the beauty industry. She started her career as an assistant at Oribe Salon. After a few years of making sure she knew everything there is to know about color, Rita was promoted to work as a colorist. In November of 2007, Rita had her first public appearance on the Oprah Winfrey show. Rita didn't always plan on starting her own haircare line, but she knew that if she did, it would have to be something necessary and true to herself. That is how the infamous root concealer was born, a way for women to cover their grays in between appointments. From then on, Rita continued to produce products that made it easier for people to take care of their hair from home.
