Welcome in for another edition of the Morning Espresso, presented by our friends at Oglethorpe University, Atlanta's premier undergraduate learning experience and soccer powerhouse. Wednesday's Europa League Final between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur is possibly the most important game in the financial history of Manchester United. It's obviously important in that sense for Spurs as well, it will give them a place at the Champions League table next season, but it's more of a necessity for United. For a club that had the 4th highest amount of revenue in the world last season but still lost £113m, they simply cannot afford to lose out on the over £100m that qualifying for the Champions League guarantees. Because of that and the placement of the two teams in the Premier League table, this match has the feel of a relegation playoff more than a European final. I think it will have that feeling of desperation as well. Kickoff is tomorrow at 3pm, watch on Paramount+. Atlanta United 2 drew 2-2 last night at Crown Legacy after goals from Cayman Togashi and Javier Armas. The 2's are on a 4-match unbeaten run and host Orlando on Friday night at Fifth Third Stadium in Kennesaw. In the NWSL, the Chicago Stars have moved a September match to Northwestern's lakefront Martin Stadium. According to Jeff Kassouf of The Equalizer and ESPN, the Stars' lease is up at SeatGeek Stadium at the end of the year and Northwestern could be in play as a new home for the club. Wednesday night will see the Concacaf W Champions Cup semifinals take place as Club América host Gotham FC, while Tigres take on Portland Thorns at 10:30 p.m. later that night. The winner of the tournament will qualify for the newly formed FIFA Women's Club World Cup. Speaking of Club World Cup, Flamengo is planning to add Arsenal's Jorginho to their squad for the tournament according to Fabrizio Romano. Inter are still negotiating with Marseille for Luiz Henrique and Real Madrid are closing in on Benfica LB Alvaro Carrera in a 40-50 million Euro deal. It was also announced yesterday that Manchester City will prepare for the tournament at Lynn University in Boca Raton, FL. Expect more announcements like that around the country as teams get ready for the tournament. The first match in Atlanta is set for June 16 as Chelsea will face the winner of the play-in match between Club América & LAFC. New ticket options are available at FIFA.com/tickets. I'll be live on 92.9 The Game tonight with Atlanta Soccer Tonight at 10pm, you can also listen on the Audacy app or on-demand at the Off The Woodwork podcast. More Morning Espresso will be served up on Thursday morning here on the SDH Network.

With the Philadelphia Union's 2-1 loss to FC Cincinnati, that means no playoff soccer for the Union for the first time since 2017. Todd goes over the latest news in MLS that includes: Should the Union sign Fabian Herbers, Union II to take on Crown Legacy, Jeremy Rafanello and Quinn Sullivan sign new long-term contracts with the Union. Todd also discusses his thoughts on the game against Cincinnati with topics: Union concede too many goals in the last five minutes in the first half, and the first five in the second half, Union's record against playoff teams in the Eastern Conference, Daniel Gazdag's injury changed everything for the Union, Jim Curtin's damning statement for players on the bench, and Kai Wagner calls out his teammates after the game. Orlando City went to TQL Stadium and did something no other visiting team has done this season — defeat mighty FC Cincinnati. In fact, the Lions went 1-0-1 against the assumed Supporters' Shield winners in 2023, so that might bode well for a potential postseason run. You'll recall that the Lions are also the only visiting team with an MLS regular-season win at the Philadelphia Union. We broke down a nervy and hard-fought match in southwest Ohio, with the lads in purple coming out on top despite the loss of Duncan McGuire early on due to a shoulder injury. His replacement, Ramiro Enrique, managed to figure prominently in the winning goal. We checked back out our incorrect score predictions and made our selections for Man of the Match. We were split this time out. We also broke down the Ercan Kara transfer to Samsunspor. We knew the striker depth would become thinner if the move happened, but we didn't expect that to matter so quickly. OCB had a huge match at home on Sunday but things didn't go well in the first half for the Young Lions and the hole was too deep to dig out of in a wild 6-3 loss to Crown Legacy. The games are dwindling for OCB to clinch a playoff spot and the matches ahead aren't easy, but a Jack Lynn brace always makes for a more exciting experience when watching the Young Lions Our mailbagbox asked us about what Orlando City can / will do for more striker depth to see out the season and players who have revived their careers after coming to Orlando City. Remember, if there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the show, just ask us by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. Here's how No. 374 went down: 0:15 – The Lions managed to become the first team to beat FC Cincinnati on its home field despite losing Duncan McGuire early. 30:14 – What the Ercan Kara transfer means moving forward in light of McGuire's injury, which is hopefully not a longterm thing. 37:22 – OCB-Crown Legacy was another wild MLS NEXT Pro affair and we dipped into our mailbagbox. Orlando City fell into the proverbial trap. With St. Louis City in the rearview mirror and a trip to league-leading Cincinnati looming this weekend, the match in Charlotte against a team that's below the playoff line always looked like a trap game, even taking into account the Lions should have been out for revenge against a team that beat them at home in regular-season play and knocked them out of the U.S. Open Cup earlier this year. Charlotte came out with a great deal of energy and Orlando City struggled to match it. The Lions eventually settled into the game and created some of the game's best scoring chances, but struggled to finish when they stayed onside. A late penalty seemed to hand all the points to Charlotte again, but a little fortune fell Orlando City's way when a long-range Martin Ojeda set piece fell kindly after clearing every player on the pitch, allowing the Lions to escape with a hard-fought road point. We've got the full game breakdown and our selections for Man of the Match. Following our recap, we break down the reports of Samsunspor's interest in Ercan Kara and what that means for Orlando City through the rest of 2023. Geoff Tebbetts from Cincinnati Soccer Talk joined us to help us prepare for Orlando City's trip to southwestern Ohio this Saturday to face the Supporters' Shield leaders, FC Cincinnati. The Lions last saw FCC early in the season when the teams played to a 0-0 draw at Exploria Stadium. Geoff is the host of their Jersey Swap podcast and he did a great job of catching us up on the latest happenings in Cincy. Our mailbagbox was a bit light for this episode but we can only answer the questions you send us, and you asked us about Ercan Kara and about Folarin Balogun going to Monaco. Remember, if there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the show, just ask us by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. OCB has a tall task ahead on Sunday and the Young Lions will probably have to face Crown Legacy without the likes of Jack Lynn, Abdi Salim, and potentially Thomas Williams. That's not ideal. Finally, we discussed Saturday's matchup between Orlando City and FC Cincinnati. We've got our key matchups and score predictions for you. Here's how No. 373 went down: 0:15 – The Lions struggled in the attack but scratched back to earn a point in Charlotte. 35:54 – We welcome Geoff from Cincinnati Soccer Talk to preview the Lions' trip to face the Supporters' Shield leaders. 54:06 – A look in the mailbagbox, OCB to face Crown Legacy without some key players, and our key matchups and score predictions for the Lions' trip to Cincinnati. King Kahlina is back on the pitch! The queens share some thoughts about how Crown Legacy are doing at this point in the season, which includes an appearance by the Croatian Superman, back in the net for the first time in 2023. Over with the first team, it's a rocky go from start to finish with our opponents from the Rockies, except when Triple K make double-bangers in two minutes. Ultimately Colorado lucks out with a draw with a fumbled catch from Spider George out of his webbing, leaving #FortheCrown despairing a win at home.

Originally, the plan was to create a Block & Crown Legacy set that was to be released in November but time constraints got in the way and so the project was shelved. Coming up on the holiday weekend, I decided to pull out all the tracks I've amassed over the years of classic mashups and bootlegs by these (guys?) and create one giant throwdown party. Not much is known about this duo or even if it's a collective of one (kinda like Party Favorz). Over the years, many of these songs have appeared on various Dance Club, Peak Hour, and Disco House releases while the majority have not. They have no explicit style but share an affinity for dance music in all its glorious forms. Many songs will be a familiar hook from a classic disco song or 80s dance track that's been mashed with an equally familiar Hip Hop song from the 90s. Oftentimes, they use the original vocalist while other times it's a different singer made to sound like the original. Either that or the vocals were altered possibly due to licensing rights. The titles of the tracks will mostly be unfamiliar to you until you listen to each song and you'll be like "damn! I know that/these song(s)." While Block & Crown have owned this space for quite some time, other DJs have dabbled in it as well. People like Richard Grey, Softmal, Nari, Lissat, and others have also generated a bunch of these mashups. More recently, Ghostmasters, The Soul Gang, Ghostbusterz, and Disco Gurls have been picking up a lot of the slack. I could be wrong but I believe the people behind these aliases are Nacho Chapado & Ivan Gomez who have been distributing these remixed gems on their Guareber Recordings imprint. Their focus has been primarily on 80s dance though occasionally they stray from that decade. I've pulled from many of the best to create this early summer dance classics throwback that can be enjoyed at BBQs, family outings, or poolside by every age group. This set includes songs from the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s, and even a couple of recent songs that meld into the overall vibe of this set. Some songs are just straight-up reworks reimagined for today's dancefloor much like our 'Thank God It's Disco' series but expanded into a wide range of decades. A lot of songs were removed because of the difficulty of mixing them into a seamless set. This is generally because many of the endings of the songs weren't DJ-friendly and just cut off. So, there was a lot of great stuff that had to be dropped. Nevertheless, I've had the 'Summer Throwback Dance Party' on repeat for the past week and it is one epic party throwdown to be shared and enjoyed by all. If you want to forget about inflation, high gas prices, high rents, or the great American experiment going down the drain — this is the one set that will allow you to escape, even if only for 5 hours. Yup, it's massive! I've got all the songs compiled for the annual Beach House series and expect that to be released this next week. This particular Disco House series is taking a new direction, which I'll get into when it drops. Until then...ENJOY! There's a skip in 'Ghostbusterz - For The Ladies (Original Mix)' which cannot be fixed and is embedded in the song. Think of it like an old school vinyl listening session. SURPISE! Hot off the heels of yesterday's Holiday Edition 2021 — Party Favorz is dropping our year-end Holiday T-Dance set and man this is a whopper! We've been throwing tracks into this folder since our last T-Dance release in August hoping to build up enough to complete a new set by year's end. It wasn't looking good but we went back and pulled several tracks from the scrapped Block & Crown Legacy set we had planned, added several brand new Purple Disco Machine tracks (two of which appeared on the recent Catching Up with Purple Disco Machine release) and a whole slew of great vocal house along with classics from the 70's, 80's and 90's that have been re-worked for today's modern music scene plus some current Dance Club releases. The end result is the perfect culmination of fun afternoon party tracks for any crowd on any given Sunday any time of the year. If fun is what you're looking for — then look no further. We want to give a HUGE thank you to Joel Dickinson and Dirty Disco for fowarding Joel's upcoming release titled 'Heart of Stone' with the fabulous France Joli. The full release is currently available for pre-order on Beatport and other popular platforms and contains remixes by Wayne G & Porl Young, Luca Debonaire, Dirty Disco & Matt Consola, Elof De Neve, Twisted Dee & Diego Fernandez and Cajjmere Wray. There's a seperate release of the radio edits and a third release of the original. You can also stream the original version on Spotify. Frankly, every version is absolutely fantastic and Miss Joli has never sounded better. Check out the original below. [youtube v="PRFgfZKDoxI"] Even with everything going on, we're going to go ahead and try to get the Top Dance Songs of 2021 out these final two weeks before capping the year off with our annual New Year dance party set Blow Your Own Horn. It's a lot to take on in a short period of time but it's doable. So make sure your subscribe to Party Favorz to ensure you don't miss out on these highly anticipated releases.
