Welcome in for another edition of the Morning Espresso, presented by our friends at Oglethorpe University, Atlanta's premier undergraduate learning experience and soccer powerhouse. Wednesday's Europa League Final between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur is possibly the most important game in the financial history of Manchester United. It's obviously important in that sense for Spurs as well, it will give them a place at the Champions League table next season, but it's more of a necessity for United. For a club that had the 4th highest amount of revenue in the world last season but still lost £113m, they simply cannot afford to lose out on the over £100m that qualifying for the Champions League guarantees. Because of that and the placement of the two teams in the Premier League table, this match has the feel of a relegation playoff more than a European final. I think it will have that feeling of desperation as well. Kickoff is tomorrow at 3pm, watch on Paramount+. Atlanta United 2 drew 2-2 last night at Crown Legacy after goals from Cayman Togashi and Javier Armas. The 2's are on a 4-match unbeaten run and host Orlando on Friday night at Fifth Third Stadium in Kennesaw. In the NWSL, the Chicago Stars have moved a September match to Northwestern's lakefront Martin Stadium. According to Jeff Kassouf of The Equalizer and ESPN, the Stars' lease is up at SeatGeek Stadium at the end of the year and Northwestern could be in play as a new home for the club. Wednesday night will see the Concacaf W Champions Cup semifinals take place as Club América host Gotham FC, while Tigres take on Portland Thorns at 10:30 p.m. later that night. The winner of the tournament will qualify for the newly formed FIFA Women's Club World Cup. Speaking of Club World Cup, Flamengo is planning to add Arsenal's Jorginho to their squad for the tournament according to Fabrizio Romano. Inter are still negotiating with Marseille for Luiz Henrique and Real Madrid are closing in on Benfica LB Alvaro Carrera in a 40-50 million Euro deal. It was also announced yesterday that Manchester City will prepare for the tournament at Lynn University in Boca Raton, FL. Expect more announcements like that around the country as teams get ready for the tournament. The first match in Atlanta is set for June 16 as Chelsea will face the winner of the play-in match between Club América & LAFC. New ticket options are available at FIFA.com/tickets. I'll be live on 92.9 The Game tonight with Atlanta Soccer Tonight at 10pm, you can also listen on the Audacy app or on-demand at the Off The Woodwork podcast. More Morning Espresso will be served up on Thursday morning here on the SDH Network.

We start with the science of stress, specifically how our brains and bodies are biologically predisposed to respond to stress through the fight, flight, or freeze response. After students can "name" their stress, Upstream gives them a variety of concrete tools to "tame" that stress. Our tools are rooted in the practices of mindfulness, positive psychology, and positive self-talk.Links:https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/73/su/su7304a6.htmhttps://www.nimh.nih.gov/news/science-news/2024/cognitive-behavioral-therapy-alters-brain-activity-in-children-with-anxietyhttps://ccf.georgetown.edu/2022/03/24/research-update-childrens-anxiety-and-depression-on-the-rise/https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9894765/https://www.cdc.gov/childrensmentalhealth/features/anxiety-depression-children.htmlhttps://www.cdc.gov/childrensmentalhealth/data.htmlhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EKB7GZ0KAwohttps://www.coursehero.com/file/194915685/RA-Final-Rough-Draft/ Hosted on Acast. Today's Guest President of the American Association of Caregiving Youth, Connie was educated at Johns Hopkins and New York University, she obtained her PhD in 2004 from Lynn University to have a bigger voice for family caregivers. Connie never expected her doctoral research to uncover the high prevalence of family health situations and concomitant caregiving with detrimental academic effects upon children in Palm Beach County. Her broad background in healthcare and dedication to diminishing caregiver isolation and struggles led to the 1998 establishment of what is now the American Association for Caregiving Youth. It includes the Caregiving Youth Project, the first US program to support the hidden population of child caregivers. Her dream is for all family caregivers to be honored and respected but especially youth for their contributions to family and to society; no child in the US should have to drop out of school because he or she has to care for a family member. In June of 2009, Connie was awarded a lifetime Ashoka Fellowship and in October 2009 she became one of 10 Purpose Prize winners, a national endeavor honoring persons over 60 years of age who initiated an innovative solution for social change. In September 2010 The Johns Hopkins University Alumni Association presented her with The Distinguished Alumna Award. In 2011 AACY won the Palm Beach County Medical Society's Heroes in Medicine Award for Community Outreach and later that year Connie was named a Woman of Grace by Bethesda Hospital Foundation. During May 2012 she was named a CNN Hero and in September was one the Top Ten Heroes for 2012. https://aacy.org/ About Dr. Raj Dr Raj is a quadruple board certified physician and associate professor at the University of Southern California. Many people who are treated for cancer follow a routine — home, treatment, work, home. Rinse and repeat. That was the case for Florida Atlantic University (FAU) baseball coach John McCormack when he was getting treatment for a neuroendocrine tumor — until one day when he could not get a ride home. John lost weight, had no energy, and was unable to drive a car during his cancer treatment. He was feeling useless, unengaged, and completely dependent on others. His wife, also an FAU employee, had been unable to pick him up that Friday in January when practice had been cut short due to rain. Drained of strength, John nonetheless responded to the team's call to offer some thoughts during its weekly post-practice workshop. John started talking and the players rallied around, reminding him why he was a coach. "I felt really good about it," he said of the discussion. "On the way home, I called my mom and said, 'Mom, I found my purpose again.'" Having worked with players since becoming a recruiter and assistant coach for FAU in 1991, and then FAU's head baseball coach in 2009, John remembered that his job is not only to teach fundamentals of America's favorite pastime, but also to help young men get through college and have a good life. "Baseball is the easy part," he said. "Life is the hard part." John's story is personal to me. I've known him since we were competitors on the diamond when I played for FAU and he played for nearby, what was then the College of Boca Raton, and is now Lynn University. We have been friends since our final year at school. We share the philosophy that whether in real estate or sports or something else, everything we do is relational, not transactional. John is extending his mentorship to Chiseled listeners. So, after you're done listening to this week's episode, if you're looking for more information about cancer treatment or if you have a talented athlete at home, feel free to reach out to John at FAU. He says if he can help, he will. You can find his information on the school's website.

Overview The core principles of design thinking he discusses include: Empathy - dive deep to understand the problem from the perspective of all stakeholders. Problem definition - distill insights into a clear, actionable problem statement. Ideation - brainstorm many creative ideas without judging. Prototyping - create rough prototypes to test and learn from. Testing - put prototypes into the real world for feedback, then iterate. He provides examples of design thinking's successful implementation at Lynn, including: Using it to develop their 2025 strategic plan by interviewing over 650 stakeholders. Injecting design thinking into Lynn 101 and Citizenship courses so students gain self-awareness. Creating the Pulse Agency, where students solve real business problems for clients. Moving quickly to create an NFT museum during the NFT boom. Cesar emphasizes the importance of stakeholder engagement, collaboration across disciplines, and creating job-ready graduates through practical learning experiences and internships. Key Takeaways for Higher Ed Leaders: Don't be afraid of failure! Go big or go home. Foster an environment where people feel happy and faculty feel their voices are being heard. Allow faculty to live on the edge. Listen to them and empower them. Create partnerships with local businesses that hire your students, provide internships, and bring equity to higher education. Kevin Lynch embodies The Quell Foundation mission. Founded in December, 2015 in North Falmouth, MA, Kevin launched The Quell Foundation which aims to reduce the number of suicides, drug overdoses and incarceration of people living with a mental illness. Kevin works tirelessly, and without compensation, to remove the stigma and normalize the conversation of mental health. In doing so, he encourages others to share their stories and creates an environment for them to do so without fear of judgment. Leading by example, Kevin openly discusses his personal experiences with mental illness, often in some of the most public forums, including commencement addresses, corporate speaking engagements and over 100 college campuses across the United States.Kevin's career as a public servant began as a twelve-year veteran of the elite United States Naval Submarine Force. When an unfortunate injury ended his military career, Kevin chose the healthcare sector to continue his commitment of caring for and fighting for others in their time of need.Since the Foundation's inception, Kevin has played a major role in the creation and implementation of The Quell Foundation's programs and initiatives to reduce suicides and erase the stigma surrounding mental health. Kevin envisioned and implemented a scholarship program within The Quell Foundation which provides financial support to undergraduate and graduate level students who are either enrolled in a mental health degree related field, are living with a diagnosed mental illness themselves, or who had lost a parent/caregiver or sibling to suicide.Kevin grew The Quell Foundation's scholarship program from 16 scholarships in 2016 to over 1,800 scholarships today. To date, Quell has distributed over $3.2 million in awards to students attending over 480 different colleges and universities in all fifty states..As executive producer, and film subject, of The Quell Foundations' educational documentary, Portraits of Life with Mental Illness, Kevin aims to positively influence the public's perception of mental illness by fostering a culture of empathy and understanding through film. Statistically proven to reduce stigma, Portraits of Life With Mental Illness has been shown to over 20,000 individuals at college campuses, in corporate offices and with government agencies across the country. Kevin attends each screening, volunteering his time and expertise by serving as a panelist and directly engaging with the audience. He continues to partner with both local and national organizations to bring the film to communities in need. His research on this films ability to positively influence the viewer has been peer reviewed and published in an international medical journal. As the founder and CEO of Quell, Kevin has also brought forth his passion for mental health advocacy work for first responders. In 2022, Kevin served as an executive producer for his second documentary, First Responders Sound the Alarm. Through this work, Kevin fights to remove the stigma that lives within many of our nation's first responder communities. Since its release, First Responders Sound the Alarm has been shown throughout the country to hundreds of first responders with each screening being accompanied by an interactive panel discussion. In recent research conducted by our organization, early indicators show First Responders Sound The Alarm can better help first responders process traumatic events, increase willingness to disclose their mental health challenges to colleagues and show a greater readiness to work with peers who have a mental health illness.Kevin has transformed The Quell Foundation into a nationally acclaimed mental health organization known for turning advocacy into statistical change through its prestigious scholarship program, educational documentary series and First Responder Resilience Project. Kevin is a Fellow of The Pennsylvania State University Alumni Association where he earned a master's degree in Health Policy and Administration. In 2022 Kevin was named Alumni of the Year by Lynn University where he earned his bachelor's degree in Business Administration graduating with Summa Cum Laude honors. Kevin currently lives in Jupiter, Florida with his wife Karen and their dog Piper.Let's Remove the Stigma - The Quell Foundation

On this episode, we're joined by a show director who puts together some of the hospitality industry's most popular events. Please welcome to the show, Brand Leader & Associate Show Director - Boutique Design at Emerald, Keisha Byrd! Keisha joins Host Dan Ryan to share what makes a successful event. Keisha highlights the importance of finding the right people, the satisfaction that comes from pulling off a successful event, and the ways students can get the most out of events. Takeaways: Hospitality is about creating welcoming experiences, bringing people together, and making everyone feel like they belong. It is important to prioritize these aspects in order to foster a sense of unity and promote meaningful connections. When it comes to putting together an amazing event, the right people make it a success. Your attendees are likely to forget the food and beverages that were served, but they will remember the conversations had and connections made. Putting on an event is a lot of work, but the feedback and positive messages make it all worth it. Hearing feedback from attendees not only makes you feel appreciated, but also helps shape future events. When vendors ask for a better space or more square footage, those are both signs of an event well done. Additional signs of success include the feedback from attendees who have found your event to be a useful resource. As events grow and evolve, there is an increased focus on highlighting specific designs. Future events will still feature a traditional expo hall, but will start to incorporate open houses that highlight both specific designs and their designers. Setting goals, being patient, and staying true to yourself are key factors in achieving personal growth and success. It is crucial to persevere and remain dedicated to your journey, as progress takes time and self-belief. Listening and being patient with others, while embracing creativity and continuous learning, are valuable skills for events. These help to improve event experiences and foster constructive growth. Debbie G. had a spate of jets flying over her house interfering with her microphone, so she couldn't join us today. And Neo had intermittent Internet connectivity issues, so he couldn't join us either. Fortunately, we had two wonderful guests today for the price of one. Tara played Div. 1 Soccer in Boca Raton, Fl. at Florida Atlantic University. Over the course of her 4-years, she proved her skills as a strong forward by being her team's leading scorer. She holds a Master's in Leadership, is a nationally certified massage therapist and wellness coach. Trina played Div. 2 soccer in Boca Raton, Fl. at Lynn University. Over her 3 years there, she and her team won a National Championship and made two final-4 appearances. She received her Master's in Sports Business, is a nationally certified massage therapist and wellness coach. Tara starts us off telling us about how she first experienced "mom guilt", and Trina adds that she experienced the same thing but didn't want to burden anyone with it. After doing a bunch of work on themselves, they realized that other moms would probably be able to relate to what they experienced. Together they created Power Mom at https://www.powermom.co/ The Power Mom program has four pillars that Trina and Tara discuss with us today: 1. Building You, 2. Fueling You, 3. Training You, and 4. Extending You. These are the fundamentals that they teach to everyone in their program. We ended up having a wonderful conversation with so much common ground between what we do here on the podcast and what Trina and Tara do in their program. Good stuff!
