You may not think you know Mazes & Monsters by Rona Jaffe, but you certainly know its 1982 movie adaptation starring Tom Hanks in his first leading role (which you can watch along with us on our Patreon). We wondered if anyone would ever request this book and that day has finally come thanks to our patron Lucek. Thanks for all of your support, Lucek (and for being patient with us when we had to ask you for a second and third choice this year due to some unfortunately timed crossover in our patron requests)! Today's episode is all about D&D and LARPing, plus we wonder about what makes a sexy mouth, rules in 70s dorms, who exactly is named 'Hall', and why we need to know this much about everyone's parents. Despite some real truths and emotional realism in some respects, this story is far too steeped in Satanic Panic nonsense. It's also hard to forget that this book trafficked in sensationalism and profitted off of James Dallas Egbert, III's brief disappearance in 1979 and his eventual tragic death in 1980. Musings and derailments in this episode include: D&Tea and the potency of Many World's Tavern Chamomile, and our personal music and video game updates: Play Gobsmacked! Listen to Blood for the King and Divine Battle from Savage Oath's Divine Battle Listen to Down in the Hollow from Crypt Sermon's The Stygian Rose Remember that if you, too, would like to have us read and review a book of your choice on the show, you can gain that power by joining our Patreon at the appropriate tier.

This week we are putting a spotlight on one of the more interesting releases so far this year, Crypt Sermon's latest The Stygian Rose, which will release on June 14. To that end, we got Brooks Wilson and Steve Jansson on the show to talk about everything from getting into the studio in 2022 to finally being done with it and ready for release. We'll chat about the pros and cons of going into the studio prepared, how doing that helped capture their sound, and how Brooks created the cover art. They also name the video game they feel would be displayed on a video wall before their shows, how vintage 80's and 90's action movies have a language of their own. Brooks also does a deep dive into an interesting regional character to inspire lyrical themes on the record and why you can't miss these guys on tour when shows are announced in North America. Petar and Sylvia discuss a little WWE and the passing of the the torch for the Women's Title, Bring Me The Horizon surprise releasing their latest album, our thoughts on bands that choose to do surprise releases, Live Nation's response to the DOJ's investigation in their business practices, and how we as fans have to navigate the current monopoly they have on shows. Their EP, Pulsing Dark Absorptions, was a lightning rod, but debut full length Through Sheer Will And Black Magic… (20 Buck Spin) will turn heads far below the southern end of the cross. To put it in quick layman's terms; imagine Mayhem and GG Allin in a knife fight and you're in the realm of what's included here. First up, underground darlings Blood Incantation. Believe the hype with this outfit. We had a cool chat with all four Incanters discussing the critical success of their debut, the brutal bootleg issue and the music biz itself. A chat that displayed them well beyond their years. Not to be outdone by his tour mates, Immo's Alex Bouks sat down with us. Mr. Bouks has a storied career within the underground having founded the legendary Gorephobia and spent time with Incantation. Immolation's pedigree is astounding!! In our "News, Views, and Tunes", we compile our own personal Alice Cooper tribute album. THE DOOMED & STONED SHOW ~Season 5, Episode 42~ "Is this the day? Is this the beginning of the end? There is no time to wonder. No time to ask why is it happening, why is it finally happening. There is time only for fear, for the piercing pain of panic. Do we pray? Or do we merely run now and pray later? Will there be a later? Or is this the day?" This week's show is inspired by The Outer Limits, a classic science fiction television show that ran from 1963 to 1965. My favorite episode is called "The Architects of Fear." In response to Cold War fears of total nuclear annihilation, a secretive scientific order plots to unite the world against a common enemy -- a monster from outer space, to be precise. Only the monster would need to come from their own ranks, a volunteer who would undergo a risky surgery that would transform his entire being into one from the planet Theta. Names are put in a bowl and Dr. Allen Leighton (played by Robert Culp) ends up being selected to undergo the dangerous metamorphosis. Meanwhile, his spacecraft is being prepared for a dramatic landing at UN headquarters when the transformation is complete. The episode was directed by Byron Haskin, who a decade earlier had brought War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells to the big screen. PLAYLIST: IS THIS THE DAY? (00:00) 1.
