Send us a textIt feels good to be back. This is my first field recording in nearly two years, captured just after sunset along the banks of Otter Creek in Sleeping Bear Dunes. I used my Zoom F3 recorder paired with the Audio-Technica BP4025 microphone, placed as a drop rig for an overnight session. As the light faded, I returned to one of my favorite spots—a quiet place where beavers often swim and birds gather in abundance. I watched two Trumpeter Swans descend and glide in beside a gathering of geese and ducks settling in for the night. Turkeys called from nearby trees, and the evening wrapped itself in the distant sound of Barred Owls echoing through the forest. It was peaceful, wild, and exactly what I'd been missing.Recording Details:Date and Time: 4/17/2025 | 5:30 AMLocation: Sleeping Bear Dunes National LakeshoreLandscape/Feature: Otter CreekConditions: 61F (16C), Overnight, Light Breeze that changed to GustingRecording Device: Zoom F3 Field RecorderMicrophone(s): Audio Technica BP4025Support the showThanks for listening! ❤️ Your support means the world to me. Dario Klein & Riatsu – Radler EP (Vinyl Release) Originals from Cologne and Mumbai, Remixes from Berlin and Hamburg What happens when two artists from completely different musical worlds meet across continents? The answer is provided by Cologne-based live act and DJ Dario Klein, along with ambient sound artist Riatsu from Mumbai. The two musicians met in 2022 as part of an artist exchange organized by the Cultural Office of the City of Cologne and the Goethe-Institut Mumbai. Their musical journey led them from live performances and collaborative studio sessions in India and Germany to the release of their debut Radler EP on vinyl. The original tracks "Radler" and "Fading Light" capture the unforgettable moments of their collaboration in two danceable and driving tracks. The EP is rounded off by remixes from Überhaupt & Außerdem from Berlin and Metatext from Hamburg. The result: an EP that has grown in clubs and festivals and matured in the studio. A special thanks goes to the Cultural Office of the City of Cologne, which significantly supported and facilitated this project. As a family, we gained a reputation for the way our 'short  walks' often turned into marathon hikes which invariably meant staggering home long after dark (usually without a torch). In this week's episode I reminisce on the lessons learnt, their prescient significance, and living in a culture that does growing old and dying so astonishingly badly.Journal entry:24th February, Saturday.“Cloud cliffs, grey and climbing Early spring sunshine Catching the stonework traceries And Benedictine flint and brickwork. The hub of politicking and commerce Silenced by the wheel-turn of centuries. Now trees stand where monks walked And daffodils nod in silent prayer. An hour of gentle talk and laughter Among such emerald greens of spring. And crows bathe in the Stiffkey brook As the wayside flames with primrose, Crocus, and snowdrop.Later, vast flights of wild geese fly south Along the coastline.”Episode Information:This episode comprises largely of family recollections, but please note that it also touches on the themes on death and dying. With special thanks to our lock-wheelers for supporting this podcast.Chris and Alan on NB The Land of Green Ginger Captain Arlo Rebecca Russell Allison on the narrowboat Mukka Derek and Pauline Watts Anna V. As the seasons comes to a wane for the Parramatta Eels in most grades, Friday night represents hope for differing reasons. The Tip Sheet jumps into the how and why as our NRL team fights to keep an unlikely push for the finals alive. That dying flame is still hope in one form or another with a win over the Roosters keeping an 8th placed finish in the frame. The real hope though comes in the curtain raiser where the NSW Cup team is filled to the brim with young players including a trio of debutantes in Richard Penisini, Matt Arthur and Sam Tuivaiti. Sixties and Forty20 run right through all 4 grades as the Jersey Flegg fight their way to the finals while the Cup takes a longer view as Generation Next take over. The NRLW head to Canberra without one of their stars with Elsie Albert gone for the season but they too are looking to build. As much for 2024 and for this year. Young talents like Cassey Tohi-Hiku, Zali Fay and Tyla Amiatu get another chance to shine against an impressive expansion team.

In preparing for our chat, I've been thinking about your comments about diving on a recent episode. You said diving was the great escape from issues and worry because it's just you and your breathing and the ocean. It made me wonder if drinking has become my "diving". I've always prided myself on drinking for the flavour, not for the buzz, but during the time of Covid I think I've started using alcohol as a pressure relief valve. I'm not saying diving and drinking are similar - beyond their relief they bring to stress and worry. Ultimately, diving leaves you fitter and healthier, drinking just leaves your body with a little extra work to do in processing alcohol. So I am dropping the SA Drink Of The Week as a permanent segment on this podcast. It will still appear when I have an amazing drink to share, but I want to model a lifestyle in which drinking is something done as a pleasureable and mindful activity, not as a medicinal "necessity" or a fait accompli when people get together. I'm not throwing the bottle out with the bath water, I'm simply severing the ties of habit. 00:13:43 Leesa Scanlan The host of fellow South Australian Podcast, High Tide Low Tide, is Leesa Scanlan. Leesa and her guests talk about all things mental health because in Australia, one in five people have a diagnosed mental health condition and nine Australians die from suicide every single day. Having been diagnosed with depression and anxiety more than 16 years ago Leesa truly understands the power there is in being able to share your story, not only for the person themselves but for every single person listening and relating to parts of it. And her storytelling is disarmingly frank and insightful, which is why she's joining us today. Leesa, the blurb for your podcast says: This podcast is for the one person who needs to hear it today. What do you mean by that? How do you define Mental Health? Do you think it's possible to have "perfect" mental health? RUOK Day happened recently and for the first time I saw some cynical push back on social media - things like, if one more person asks me if I'm okay, I'm gonna punch them. Can you understand that? I've read parts of your diaries, Leesa, starting when you were age 7. Well, to be clear, I've watch you read them on your Instagram feed. Have you always been reflective? Socrates is believed to have said, "the unexamined life is not worth living" and it makes me wonder, is there a fine line between healthily reflecting on our lives and obsessively being consumed by mulling things over and over again and getting stuck? Leesa, the reason I wanted to get you on The Adelaide Show was episode 10 of your podcast in which you talk us through your lived experience of dealing with mental health, especially the way it manifested itself as cutting. I had known that cutting is a thing but your explanation was so clear, this action which I had never been able to process, became understandable. Can you define cutting and why it worked as a solution for you at various times in your life? You lived in Indonesia for six years, during which time your work with tourist ventures and diving gave you enough money to survive on, I think you say you basically you were poor while living in Indonesia. This gives us a chance to ask the $64 question, literally: were you able to be poor and happy? Was any happiness due to being poor or due to working in an enjoyable industry? I want to return to diving, mentioned during the SA Drink Of The Week segment, would you say diving just brings symptomatic relief to mental health issues, or does it actually help change things in an ongoing way? Finally, you have an episode in which you list 10 tactics for helping to cope with mental health issues. Could you share a few of them to finish off our chat? 01:04:11 Musical Pilgrimage In the musical pilgrimage, we have  Dutch Cream Potatoes, by Rhys Howlett. Rescue Dogs is a collection of songs that Rhys has written over the past 10 years.  And Dutch Cream Potatoes is a perfect song for this episode because it touches on the weight and endurance of sad memories, and the healing power of walks on the beach. In the lyrics, Rhys writes: Sometimes the best of intentions can lead to the saddest outcomesAnd I don't work hard but I laugh a lot and the thing about walks on the beach that I loveIs how storms will pass, when you're out in the open you can see the blue skyIf it's off in the distance at least you can see itAnd wait just a minute you'll be walking right in itSo maybe when people feel isolated it's a matter of getting out into the openTo breathe in the sky, to stop asking why and start asking how, to make things better And another lyric that seems poignant: I think a lot about patterns of behaviourHow factory settings restore when we're troubled and stressed You can buy and stream Rescue Dogs and other albums on Rhys Howlett's Bandcamp page.Support the show: https://theadelaideshow.com.au/listen-or-download-the-podcast/adelaide-in-crowd/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

John joins me today to discuss lessons learnt throughout his career, which is also captured in incredible detail in his memoir titled ‘The Fading Light'. I recently finished this book, which is a combination of unbelievable operational detail as well as reflections of a man who's seen the best and the worst side of war. Some of the topics we covered are: John's entry into the Australian SAS Reasons behind joining the Rhodesian SAS The (changed) profile of a Special Forces soldier Life and operations in Rhodesia Reflections on taking a life John's perspective on PTSD The importance of ‘purpose' War, atrocities, and ‘bad apples' Selective Western military engagements Living and working for a Saudi sheik and Brunei Royal Family The power of cultural and linguistic immersion The impact of John's career on his family Throughout the episode, I referred to several discussions with previous guests. Here is the new episode of The Interview Series on the MULTI-MEDIA MEN podcast network, where the show is related to all things Movies, Music, and Entertainment! Here on this new episode, host Bryan Kluger from Boomstick Comics, High Def Digest, and Screen Rant join in on the fun. Our Feature Presentation this episode is a wonderful talk with filmmaker IVAN KAVANAGH on his new film SON! Writer/Director/Editor Ivan Kavanagh is from Ireland and has been making films for a number of years. His resume includes The Canal, Never Grow Old, and The Fading Light. His new film Son is a great horror film with a wonderful cast. Son Synopsis: After a mysterious group of individuals breaks into Laura's home and attempts to steal her eight-year-old son, David, the two of them flee town in search of safety. But soon after the failed kidnapping, David becomes extremely ill, suffering from increasingly sporadic psychosis and convulsions. Following her maternal instincts to save him, Laura commits unspeakable acts to keep him alive but soon, she must decide how far she is willing to go to save her son. The two of us talk about origin stories, where it all started with film, how he drew inspiration for his horror movie, Ireland roots, and much more. It was a delightful, fun, engaging, and candid talk for sure. Enjoy the show! WATCH SON HERE! And don't forget to visit iTunes , Stitcher , I Heart Radio, and Spotify to subscribe to our podcast. "The wilderness is a dangerous place. You only go there if you have to. As we begin our journey into lent may we enter with courage into the deserts we can't choose or avoid. May our long stints in the wilderness teach us who we really are – the precious and beautiful children of God. And when the angels and all their sweet and secret guises whisper the name "beloved" into our ears may we listen and believe them."What "wilderness" have you experienced that has taught you who you really are? Where did you find God in that place?//Mark 1:9-15In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. And just as he was coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens torn apart and the Spirit descending like a dove on him. And a voice came from heaven, “You are my Son, the Beloved; with you I am well pleased.”And the Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness. He was in the wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan; and he was with the wild beasts; and the angels waited on him.Now after John was arrested, Jesus came to Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near; repent, and believe in the good news.”//This episode was written and recorded by Debie Thomas. The Wildcards breach the tangled boughs of the Vale encountering dangers, some expected others mysterious… --- We've been playing this homebrew Dungeons and Dragons game for nearly 3 years, in the world of Vesaria. Veseria is a realm divided where our heroes, brought together by fate and divine influence, have become unlikely champions fighting against an evil force known as the Revenant Vow.  The Revenant Vow are a cult of Asmodeus, King of the Nine, who's wish is to unseal the Gates of Hell and unleash its horrors and their devil lord upon the Material Plane. Our heroes have battled the Revenant Vow and the forces of Hell many times but despite their efforts, three of the four seals binding the gate shut have already been unleashed…  We pick up now late in this high level campaign and are recording it for the first time as we go digital in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. But there are still many plots to foil and adventures to be had. So without further ado, welcome to Vesaria, and here are The Wildcards.  --- Follow Hexplorers on Twitter  https://www.youtube.com/redirect?event=video_description&v=DuJGdtoCzXk&redir_token=QUFFLUhqbmZNeVVtYkxCdFZhTlFLRjNiYzByYWlOSHNHUXxBQ3Jtc0trTWpVOFVLcEhxMzlSZ0VUNmFUWEtFc1pQV216T0s5MEkxZjFWbmhOSnR2cWg1RlF0RkdLU3VfeXNoV2ZSUFVFNXVaQ09VVU5SNG9kNnBkN09DcWhvUjMwN0luZGNnRnUzUlA2bXZuNjFSWHRrNWkyNA%3D%3D&q=https%3A%2F%2Ftwitter.com%2FHexplorersDND (https://twitter.com/HexplorersDND) Watch us on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCThkKOiWuRZ0Qz0QYhXhSGA (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCThkKOiWuRZ0Qz0QYhXhSGA)

Gracing your ears are tunes from Guy Matzur & Sahar Z, Ripperton, Finnebassen and Rashid Ajami. The last three tracks however, are all recent Steyoyoke tracks. Nick Devon’s ‘Rattled’ features in this podcast, as does Nick and Soul Button's recent 'Couple Affair' creation ‘Fading Light”. Ran Salman’s latest collaboration with Aaryon titled ‘Riptide’ also makes a fine appearance. Enjoy! http://www.steyoyoke.com/

This week we are delighted to welcome Tim Marquitz - Editor in Chief and Co-Publisher at Ragnarok Publications as well as author of grim and fantastical tales - to the Big Chair at the Roundtable. Tim's experience runs the gambit from crafting novels (like the Demon Squad Series, The Blood War Trilogy and more) and short fiction (appearing in anthologies like "Neverland's Library" along side Mark Lawrence, Jeff Salyards, and Tad Williams) to editing superb anthologies (like "Kaiju Rising: Age of Monsters" and "Fading Light") to co-authoring the Dead West series with Joe Martin and Kenny Soward.

Spaceman's Transmissions (Ambient Music Podcast)

Tonepoet: I can say that for me, it's a dream come true to have finally been involved in a collaboration with a mix-artist that is without a doubt one of my favorites. I've been digging on JUNKYARD ANGEL's mixes since he first started uploading mixes on Mixcloud. I've hosted his mixes here quite a bit (more than anyone else), and have had such candid and (dear I say?) brotherly contact with him despite our differences in time, culture, and location. All of his music lives on my media player, and accompanies me on my bike rides, in my car, or anywhere else that I use it (which is everywhere) for getting my fix of great new music. I save his comments, and mark his emails as 'unread' so that I can take in his wit and gather the positive vibe that he exudes again and again. We've talked long about our musical interests, and lives in general. We've actually bounced a few original ideas (that we'll get to at some point) back and forth. This, hopefully, serves as a springboard for that. I have to say, that after listening to so many of his mixes repeatedly, I would definitely have to bring my 'A' game with a mix. His vision for melding the bizarre, accentuating the awe-inspiring, and conjuring the twist of fear is something that marvels me. I brought the suggestion of a sort of final swan song or opus, as I've had mostly lighthearted mixes, and I knew that he would be able to pull out his magic wand and develop such a great story. Hence the name 'fading light'. It could mean the close of a day, a final breath, a dying thought, or a moment that has expired. While I could ramble on with all of this, I'm passing the torch over to Junkyard Angel for the remainder of the narrative. One last thing: if feels good to ride on the backs of angels.Junkyard Angel: I really look forward to receiving emails from Tonepoet, we have similar lives busy with families and young children not to mention mounting work schedules; we have no time to be mixing and making music so what drives us to do just that? For me, it's love and the maintenance of sanity; most people's musical thirst is quenched by the age of 25, but for myself (someone who is well over that figure), every day is a quest for music both old and new. If I don't find it, it will find me.When I was asked if I wanted to collaborate to Fading Light, I had already got the songs swirling around in my head before I had finished reading the remit. Tom has put down a heavenly drone with a heartbeat that runs and weaves concurrently throughout the mix. I spent a while just mesmerized by this tidal sound surge. After listening to Tom's mix, I started to add to the second half.I really relished the idea of the collaborative musical mesh and one done digitally by 2 museos on opposite sides of the pond; it took me back to my pirate radio days when I used to play vinyl with other DJ's back to back. It kind of forces you to conjure another angle and pick a different tune to the one that you would have played on your own agenda. The worlds change but the passions remain intact. As stated before, the social commentary presented in Gundam SEED was one of the things that drew a young Kellen and James to the program. In today's five episodes ("The Vanishing Gundam," "The Scar of Space," "Songstress of the Enemy Forces," "The Fading Light," and "Crossroads") we see this in the cohabitation of Lacus Clyne (a Coordinator) and Flay Allster (who is bigoted towards Coordinators). Listen on to see if this dynamic rings as loud for the duo now as it did in 2005.
